Probably because of an incompatibility with the new TouchFlo interface, HTC has disabled manual switching to landscape mode on the Jade. This in itself is already a disadvantage. It is particularly bad for Opera because the very useful landscape option is now also absent from its context menu. The good news is: There is an easy way out: Just unlock the registry and change
"HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\HideOrientationUI" from "1" to "0"
and you can rotate to your hearts delight. The respective button is now available in "Settings - Screen" - and the option is also available in Opera's context menu! Note, however, that whenever you go back to TouchFlo's today screen it will rotate back to vertical. If you want to run a program in landscape it is thus best to first start the program and then use the start button access "Settings - Screen". In Opera, however, this is not necessary.
Thanks for this Information!
hi there,
thanks for this new hack- you can also set a shortcut for orientation with sktools which you then can start from the launcher
cheers
Landscape Mode and writing messages
Hi everybody,
i tried this setting for landscape mode and it is working well.
But only thing i noticed. If i want to try a message in landscape mode, the keyboard is not displayed correctly - some letters are missing.
Does anybody have the same issue?
thx
simon
It's weird that landscape mode exists in Opera 8.65 without that hack in registry, but in Opera 9 does not Any ideas?
I say that because this mode is very useful for internet browsing, not so in other applications.
I have the same problem with the keyboard in landscape mode, maybe this can be resolved by installing another on screen keyboard?

hi, you first need a registry editor. i use phm regedit, but if u search you'll find also other program that do the same. install it on jade, run and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Rotation\ (tapping the "+" on the left of the voice, and finally tapping "rotation"), you'll find 4 voices, tap on HideOrientationUI, and set on "value data" = "0" instead of "1". tap ok, exit the program, softreset et voilĂ ! now you can find the button on settings\system\display.

Thanks for your answer IL_mante, its works perfect for my HTC VIVA.
Also use:
"HKLM\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings\OffOnRotation" from "1" to "0"
to keep your text looking pretty.

Click on the little triangle on the bottom center of the screen next to the keyboard icon and select the standard keyboard.
my phone's screen always in vertical mode. but when i want to use horizontal screen to type sms, i will use QuickMenu to change screen from H-V. simple and no registry tweak at all. it is alright for me even though the screen will revert back to horizontal mode when it goes back to home screen.
Hi Guys,
Can you make picture of Opera in landscape mode??? and with keybord too???
BTW did you hear about "IRIS" browser? 100/100 at acid3test
Here is what you will need guys

After enabling rotation in the registry, you can also assign long-press of left hardware button to rotate the screen...
Just go to Start>Settings>Personal>Buttons... Just select <Rotate Screen> from the choices for Button 1...
hi i enabled landscape in registry, assigned to long press green button, works well to this point. problem is that when in landscape, keyboard doesnt show up... htc one, nor FingerKeyboard i installed...
when in portrait, kezboard shows up, i switch to landscape and it's gone...
htc's full qwerty keyboard wasn't showing landscape from the beginning, always portrait only...
another problem, when i switch to lanscape when in TotalCommander, screen reverts back to portrait immediately... just like in manila.
any suggestions?
is there any portrait fullscreen keyboard?
EDIT: problem solved. after uninstalling FingerKeyboard from Storage, everything works ok... seems that system tools is better to keep in main memory

I had a Universal until recently (too bulky, buggy, and Wizard is so much nicer!) so I now have the Wizard/O2 Xda Mini S.
On the Uni there was an icon on the Today page for changing orientation of the screen with 1-click. On the Wizard there is none, and I have to navigate through several menus in Settings to change it.
Any way to add the Universal's Today icon to the Wizard?
Or failing that, how can I add Start Menu shortcut to the 'Screen' option in Settings?
Check out phm tools keys. They have a screen rotation shortcut.
I think there are registry hacks to show the screen rotation UI icon though (WM2003 at least)

Thanks, would really like that reg hack if anyone can find it?
EDIT: I found this for the Universal but it has no effect on my Wizard:
To change the display of the screen rotation icon in the system tray
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION'
The 'HideOrientationUI' DWORD value can be set to '1' to hide the icon or '0' to show the icon
For example, to hide the screen rotation icon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION\HideOrientationUI = 1

CRAP! I opened this thread for the sole purpose of making that exact smart-ass response. You suck.
:? Just to clarify for those of you who don't credit me with a milligram of intellect, I wish to orientate the screen when not using the keyboard. This is a feature of WM5 and the Universal allows you to do it from the home screen, but not the Wizard.
I have however solved it by using Spb PocketPlus

Anyway to do it without installing pocket plus ?
Why not hook it up to one of the hardware buttons ? If you're worried about running out of buttons, you can probably install one of the button managers?
I've got '<Rotate Screen>' (built-in option in Buttons) under the 'voice call' button, and Magic ScreenShot under the same button+hold (normally 'voice memo'); I highly doubt I'll use either of those voice functions, so they fit nicely there
I just added it to mort button, but its still a key press and then a tap of the screen, would much prefer a today icon just to be tapped.
Well, maybe time for a developer to step in and make a tiny application that rotates the screen
http://www.devx.com/wireless/Article/21590/1954?pf=true
and
http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/rotatese.html
have code examples, but no compiles (boo, hiss - why is that?)
ZeBoxx: I've done it, but PHM tools already contains very effective screen rotation icons. Find PHM Keys... assign to hardware key or shortcut or whatever. Use his or my VJTrayLaunch and stick it in the tray as well if you want... oh, mort script does this as well I think.
V
Well, there we go
And for more light-weight (are they, really? I have no idea);
270-degrees (for Wizard):
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15527
90-degrees (exact opposite side :x):
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15011
180-degrees:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15332
PHM Keys seems to have some other neat things that I might download it for, but personally I'm happy with just having <Rotate Screen> under the 1 button (no special button managers)
off-topic: is the PHM website ever going to be back?
I have pocket plus 3 installed, so i just added 'Rotate screen left' onto the close button context menu.
Now its just a click-hold and click away - even from within a program (comes in handy when using internet explorer).
Hey All:
I'd like to create a shortcut to the Screen Rotate function for when I want to use my GPS software in Landscape mode.
You know - something shorter than doing a START > SETTINGS > SYSTEM > SCREEN.
Thoughts? Can't seem to find what controls it.
I know there is a rotation shortcut in the HTC Homeplug today screen addin - but I don't want to use that otherwise and just want to pop a shortcut into iLauncher.
You can go to button settings and assign a hard button to the rotate screen function.
Of course this assumes you are willing to give up a hard button... not sure if you are from reading your post.
Have you looked at Resco Explorer? I know Resco Explorer allows you to create start menu shortcuts. Maybe you can just create a shortcut of the Rotate screen exe.
You can try AE Button Plus. It allows you to map virtually any program or function to a hard button. And you can map several things to one button because you can map to single, double, triple, and long press. I have it set to double pressing the left soft key will switch to landscape mode.
Any chance anyone knows the file for rotating the screen? Funny enough it's not named rotatescreen.exe.
For now, I used iLauncher which has a rotate screen function and assigned it to an icon on my desktop.... but it seems crazy to me no one knows where to find the file or command that does this
Ok, I'll have to give iLauncher a look. It's funny because there is a screen rotate function in the HTC Home plugin I'm using, but it rotates the screen the opposite direction that I want on my Mogul. I'll have to keep looking.
Registry Change
I have been looking to do the same thing for some time now. i found that it's a registry value so my thinking is that it must be possible to create a script or app that can change this value but i have yet to find one.
the reg key and values are:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
Change the Value of "Angle" to the
dword:00000000 or dword:00000360 -> Portrait Mode
dword:00000090 -> Landscape(Right-Handed)
dword:00000180 -> Portrait Up-side Down
dword:00000270 -> Landscape (Left-Handed)
hopefully someone can come up with something from this. I'm using a touch btw but i think the reg values should be universal.
ok i found an app that will do it!!! see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=230981
it works great on my touch with WM6
for anyone interested i have since made a mortscript that will switch to and fro a little faster than rotateSE if someone wants it i can post it here.

for anyone who was looking for my screenrotate mortscript sorry for the delay in posting it. it will be posted tonight. i have been very busy/tired of late but tonight is the night. anyone who does not have mortscript can get it here MortScript
here it is. i assumed that mortscript would be installed in \program files
place the script file anywhere on your device. See Previous post for link to get mortscript.
Try this small program, just execute in device then it will rotate. no installation required.

Thanks man, works 100% nice with my HTC P3600 with WM6.1
I have the 20 Key Touch Dual (nike) and XT9 works great, but depending on what program you are using some applications start in "abc" mode by default. This seems dependant on what feild you are in; Subject feilds like a new calendar item always starts in "abc" mode, where notes and message feilds start in XT9. If you change the settings it will default back next time you open that application. Is there a way to change the default keypress settings to always start in XT9 for all feilds or a way to remember your preference inside each feild.
Anyone have a suggestions/tweak/fix?
Thanks-
Jcostanza4
i also need to fix this it is really annoying
I think you are right and that it's determined by the field or the application. I've noticed that it defaults to "abc" in fields and applications where non-standard (unusual) language is often used; i.e. calendar entries, phone book, connections settings fields, etc.
There must be a workaround though...
Does anyone found a solution to this??
It's really annonying to have to change everytime for having the xt9 enable. I found a sort of shortcut: long press on the button "*/xt9" and then press "1" but you have to do it each time...
Don't we have a good programmer who knows how to make cab to get rid of this??
i tried this, you can change the keyboard to the normal one, non new htc, this it will be of.
Guys it's simple use file explorer and go to Window\xT9Settings and click to launch settings menu there you can check on/off the following:
-Spell Correction
-Next Word Prediction
-Auto Substitution
-Word Completion
-Multitap Word Completion
Don't know why HTC have hidden it in the windows directory!! it should have been placed in the systems menu in any case you can always create shortcut for it in the programs menu.

But the is no option there to disable or enable xT9 in all applications.
I think this is the same issue as being discussed in this thread - maybe they should be merged.
Even though this thread is the 20-key version the way it reads to me we are all looking for the reg key(s) that set the behavior of xT9...

Im not looking to disable the XT9, but to enable it in every feild by default or ABC mode. Right now certain feilds default to ABC or XT9, so knowing which feild defaults to what is always a pain. If I get used to typing in one mode only everything would be smooth.
This is one of the biggest things that is bugging the hell out of me at the moment with this device. Everything else has been smooth, Really hope HTC fix this in the next version with either a user option to enable the mode you want to use. I am pretty sure that a registry edit could also do this.

Hello, In rhodium the lower buttons are "Phone" on the left and "Camera" on the right.
How can I change this buttons to other functions as "programs" or others?
I try with Advanced configuration tools and other utilities but when soft reset all return with original values. My rhodium have Italian rom.
Thanks
Use HD Tweaks works on mine.
Use HD Tweaks with caution.. Some of the tweaks might give issues on TP2.. For one, its a know issue that one or some of the volume tweak would disable sound on your TP2.. There after, you make calls and you can't hear the other side..

Use Touchflo Detacher, you can set the softkeys on the homescreen aswell as in Touchflo 3D to any application or shortcut (ink) you want.

Hard Keys
In case you didn't know already, you can also set the Send key as a shortcut as well. Just go Settings > All Settings > Personal > Buttons

You can remap both soft keys (left and right) the same way: either choose the program from your application list shown in the pull-down window, or choose the application from any location on your device by clicking [...] path search on the right side. This way you can remap both soft keys to ANY program on your device.
with a reg editor you can go for : HKLM->Software->HTC->Manila
Here it is : HomeRSKPath (Write the path of the desired app)
Below is : HomeRSKText (Write the text you want to see in home right soft key).
Hope it can help.
Is there a way to just remove the two soft buttons and have the tf3d icons on the bottom? I am running an auto lock program and the phone button is not needed as I can use the hard button.
Hello everyone,
i've been trying several roms since few days.. and love them all
appreciate all the work you guys do, but i have this one little thing that i wish i had.
Why do i need to use the keyboard to go to landscape? is there no other option?
(i cant seem to find it..)
So i would like my screen to always rotate in every app when i rotate the phone.. (g-sensor rotate is on, but hardly ever works auto) OR have a key or app that i can use that overrules the sensor and just let me choose landscape mode.
Because the auto rotate doesnt seem to do that for most programs untill you slide the keyboard out. but i dont need my keyboard...
examples: i like tomtom in landscape, but not with the keyboard slide out!
(that way it wont fit in my carkit..)
and i want to be able to rotate a movie or tekst message whenever i want to..
etc etc.. (with the g-sensor OR some key or APP or something else)
or is the answer: its impossible? can hardly believe that, because it seems so easy to do.
thanks for any help
Search for ChangeScreen or G-Config.
Or set Send Key to rotate manually:
HKLM/System/GDI/Rotation change the "HideOrientationUI" from 1 to 0
Now you van remap the Send Key to do this on long press.
use this cab to rotate TF3d with out the keyboard
than use the g config app to add other programs to the rotate list, once you add the cab or any program using g config you have to soft reset for them to work
edit i have tom tom and adding it to g config app work great in landscape
very very nice
works like a charm with not much lag.
thank you.
just to let you know what i found as my final solution (for now) after lots of trying different roms:
i read somewhere here, (cant find it anymore) about setting the hardware "back" key to rotate screen on double click...
so no auto rotating anymore, only when i want to, with this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554240
Together with the ROM:
Phoenix 2 Sense 2.1 EnergyROM_28011_RHODIUM_07.Dec.2009_Standard.rar
it all works like a charm.. manila rotates very quick and everything else.
rom has start button on bottom and standard 4 columns in programs, nice agenda in landscape, yes i like this one
coreplayer works good.. no accidental rotates etc
i can just lay in bed and watch my favorite movie without troubles.
tomtom in widescreen in my car etc etc
thank you all for this superb forum
Try these Registry Settings
1. HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila -> add a new String Value with the name "EnableLandscape" and the value "true" (both without "")
2. HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\ModuleName -> add a new String Value with the name "TF3D" and the value "\Windows\manila.exe" (both without "")
3. HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList -> add a new String Value: Name: "TF3D Value: "Manila" (both without "")
4. Change HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila DisableRotation value to 0 from 1.
5. Softreset
Search for flip_IT, found it in topaz forum, burried somewhere. It works awesome with WM6.5.x builds.
i used this clever little addin and made a shortcut in start menu n quicklaunch panel enjoy !
but as i found some programs will no look right when used in landscape mode.
