I almost completed my post...and then i pressed my backspace key...so i can start over again
Hello,
I was wondering if there are people who are interested in watching live tv on there windows mobile phone from your pc at home...(?)
Last week i was searching for tools/progs like snapstream(stream live tv/record/schedule etc...) but it wasn't working good enough for me...
I just wanted a simple program to scan for tv channels...name them...and watch them on my kaiser...
So after a few hours programming... it worked
A moment ago i was driving my car and watching tv(350kb(its)s) on my kaiser over hsdpa / umts using my tv card in my pc at home...
The only thing i need to do is make a simple GUI that you can access on your kaiser using pocket ie/opera etc... In this webpage there will be very big buttons (for ex. CNN) so when you press this verry big button (you can't miss ) it will start CNN in TCMPM or windows media player...
(These buttons will be created dynamicly using a xml with your tv channels/freq/descriptions) so you can customize it or auto scan for channels...
Also you will be able to customize output quality...
Are there people who are interested in this? If so i'll will post some beta versions here
Let me know!
God bless!
Her are some screenshots...
You can already do this with Orb and a TV tuner on your PC:
http://www.orb.com/
Possibly an interesting free replacement for Sling Box.
Orb (already mentioned) is very good, and my personal favorite for watching TV is WebGuide http://www.asciiexpress.com/webguide/
Does this only support curtain tv-tuner cards? I would really love an app that works with dvb-s cards. Satillite on my phone would be 2 sweet Orb is good too but no dvb-s support
Microsoft has a free software called Windows Media Encoder that will allow you take in video streams from any source and output as a video stream or record it. It is actually very good. It does not have features to change channels though.

Just wondering if there is any third party streaming software out there in the Android market similar to Slingplayer and Orb that can stream television and or live tv from home...
Slingplayer for symbian s60 v3 worked flawlessly and orb too, just wish to find a solution to put on the Nexus,
thanks
can i take your comment to mean that the nexus one won't stream from mycast.orb.com?
Orb just released 3 android apps to the market. Get out your wallet...
That is correct.... I've been trying to get it work for 2 days now and no workie.
Just to make sure Orb has the testing site, http://test.orb.com to test to see which formats are playable. None work
Yeah that does suck. I wonder if it's a codec thing. Does orb transcode?
on winmo, i've never had a problem. ever. it should transcode, and puts it into an asx stream file. opened with several different mobile players, and static players. this bites :/ i was excited about streaming my media to my new phone, and now that's not gonna work either? skype broken, orb broken, wtf? why all the hate?
Found this on orb.. it works!!! So till the app comes and makes it easier to view media use this.
It took a while to figure out and hopefully I can save some people time. It took some time and frustration but got everything working. This is my very first posting. I have a Moto Droid I purchased a couple days ago. I have not downloaded any additional browsers or media players. I am watching high quality live TV from my Orb account. There are a couple key steps in the process.
1) Sign up for an Orb account from your home computer (if you haven't)
2) Sign into your account from your home computer
3) Click Settings in the top right and select 3GP Format (.sdp)
4) Launch browser on Droid. Clear Cache and Cookies
5) Log into your your Orb account from your browser on your Moto Droid
6) IMPORTANT: Select Settings on bottom middle of page
7) IMPORTANT: Select Stream on top right of page
8) IMPORTANT: Select 3GP Format (.sdp). NOT AAC or AMR versions
9) Select Save
That should do it. Works great for me with Default browser and media player. Hope this helps....

pimpalicious. that's awesome news. i tested that android does work through orb, because my sister's stock g1 is streaming from my computer right now. just wanted to insure that the nexus one isn't 'crippled' for any reason.
not all file formats will stream out though. one of the videos i have must be encoded with a wonky format, because while i can watch it on pc, it won't stream to ps3 or through orb
the quality compared to my pro2 is night and day for some reason which makes me happy!
That does work well and works with my webcam, useless, but still kinda cool.
i've had orb on my pc for a spell, so i could stream music/movies to my work pc. default browser on N1 had no problem streaming from mycast.orb.com on several movies of mine, through wifi. not everything works, but i suspect that's codec conflicts
For those of you interested, at CES, Sling confirmed that they have an Android app in development for Android. I don't have the link handy at the moment, but it was in an Engadget article. No time frame was mentioned, unfortunately.
Can confirm with previous posts that Orb is working brilliantly on the N1
Thanks
I was curious to find out if anyone is using anything out there to broadcast their TV Tuner signal to their Touch Pro 2 and it's working...
I have tried Orb, ever since they updated for Windows 7, and although I can get it to work using my laptop, I can't get my Touch Pro 2 to connect. Whenever I try and get the signal to my CorePlayer, it hangs without a signal.
I wouldn't use it enough to get SlingBox, but MyTinyTV that worked wonderfully on my HTC Wizard hasn't been supported in a couple years.
Anyone have any suggestions?

orb and core player
I've found that when using orb some setting need to be tweaked on coreplayer. go to menu>tools>setting then select the network page and set user agent spoof to never. that makes streaming videos work for me. not sure about live TV though.
Who is using me?
Try streaming through Windows Media Player or Streaming Media both are allready installed and seem to work fine for me.
With Streaming Media the video does seem to come in smaller but you can change the buffer up to 25 seconds so sometimes it worth it.
Change stream format in the orb web interface on your phone to:
.asx - for Windows Media Player
or
3GP-AAC/RTSP - for Streaming Media
hey i got SBP TV
its working great u can try this and you do not need to register and full license
Have you tried using pie (via IE toggle) then to orb?

Yeah, I just realized that this is a TV application. I don't care about all these garbage stations that broadcast online. I want my FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, and others...
My 2cents..
I would personally start with webcam stream apps and set my TV card as the active cam, set the pc up as a webserver/streamer with some obscure port #, set the stream-cam app to stream 2 disk, and then connect to it by direct IP : port with a suitable player on the phone.
I've done this a long time back PC to PC so a friend and I could watch TV together from seperate locations. I searched around and was able to find free apps to set the whole thing up. There are a few webcam apps that have a built in stream server, you can likely find one if you look around.
I got live streaming TV to my TP2 from my computer at home using orb, I use it to watch the world cup when @ work
make sure that when you setup orb, it is able to scan all your channels
then from there you login to mycast.orb.com from Pocket IE and go to TV > guide > then select a channel and hit play
you can set what type of stream orb will beam by going to the orb website in your pc, going to settings and you can pick different stream types so that it will work with whatever media player you chose
For anyone who is interested, I have both a Slingbox Pro & a Hava/Monsoon/Vulkano Pro.
Both of these devices have Android players available to stream live TV to your phone although the Vulkano app is a free DL & the Sling app is $30 (it should be free)
These two devices are completely different & each has distinct advantages over the other. The Vulkano records to a 1 TB hard drive so it works as a DVR but only at 720p resolution & if you want to watch it on your phone you need to record at an even lower resolution.
The Slingbox has two tuners in it, which is really handy as I can hook my High Def cable box to one tuner & basic cable to the other. I can then watch a different channel on the phone than the home TV is set on. The Slingbox will work fine with no TV connection at all, which is a HUGE advantage over the Vulkano which has no internal tuner at all.
The Vulcano HAS to be hooked to a TV & then it only provides a 720p signal to the TV which is a noticeable downgrade in picture quality on my 50" LCD TV. It does provide really good quality streaming video quality however, better than the Slingbox on the phone.
So basically, the Vulkano gives a better image on your phone, but degrades the image on the TV it's hooked to. The Slingbox doesn't need a TV connection at all, but doesn't record & charges for the software app.
there is a way to get free app for sling, sorta if you subscribe to dish i believe their dish app connects to their sling adapter and you can sling for free as long as you are subscribed to their satellite service, one thing i am sure of they have an android app because i have seen it in the market and its free.
Which one will let you burn the show to a disc from your laptop? Or add items already on your dvr to the device to take and watch?

'Taint bad, better than a dingbox pro

You can do both with the Vulkano.
I also had the slingbox pro and it was giving me a jacked up pic on Win 7, tried everything (some posts said to change win themes, etc.- none of it worked, which is why I got a Vulkano).
The only real drawbacks to the Vulkano are that it doesn't record to your PC in HD and only passes 720p resolution to the TV (from what I've read- not a big deal if you have an HDMI cable running to your TV and component running to the Vulkano, which I do), and it only has capability for one video input at a time (so no hooking up your DVD player and TV at the same time).
One of the cool features of the Vulkano is that you can record whatever program you're watching directly onto the laptop you're watching it on, or you can record it to an external hard drive connected to the Vulkano- you choose. Plus you can program remote signals into the vulkano (I haven't done it yet, so I don't know how well it works). It also records into mp4 format (H.264).
I bought a component switch ($26) that works by remote and plan on hooking up my blue ray that does streaming netflix so I can get whatever I want streaming from netflix onto my HTC HD2 (with dual boot to android- vulkano doesn't have an ap for windows based phones as of yet, I know, it's supposed to- but they can still play the mp4s).
I can let you know how it works out once it arrives if you like.
TestTube / Havafun
This is for anyone stuck with an older tv-box like the Hava Player [myhava.com/havamobileplayer.html] (Monsoon's predecessor to it's Vulkano products) i have. Check out [sites.google.com/site/overvoltagesoft/home/testtube] Over Voltage Soft's TestTube (avail. in market). TestTube is an:
Application for Android powered devices that allows owners of Hava place-shifter devices to watch and control their TV.
TestTube doesn't work like the commercial Hava Software that you've probably downloaded directly from Moonson Media. Instead of requiring a Username and Password to connect to your Hava, TestTube requires only the IP address of the device. Since this is a homebrew project that is unaffiliated with Monsoon Media, TestTube does not have access to the login servers which normally redirect you to your device.

Being that I run Ubuntu and there is no native client support I have to manually watch through the crappy RTSP stream and use just-barely-working scripts (see below) to channel change and all that. See: [sourceforge.net/projects/havafun] Havafun - A package of shell binaries that talk directly to the Hava video streaming device, control key features from the command line (particularly on linux), grab high quality "local" video stream (particularly on linux) for eventual inclusion into MythTV. I imagine almost the same thing could be done from an android box if anyone was interested and proficient enough.
Hope these links helped someone out heh look at me blatantly spamming some guy's app i'll be expecting my check in the mail, overvolatesoft developer guy.
is there any android to pc remote controller ? like next pause play for media player ?
Gmote 2.0 is good one. Works over WiFi.
there is one literally called "pc remote controller" lol it lets you see what your doing, which is good
theres also "unified remote" which is good for if your away from your computer but can still see the display. has media features, filemanager...etc, and you hav a multitouch mouse for rightclicking too.
these two, along with gmote, ive used, all through wifi. ive noticed all three tend to drop connection / difficulty connecting in the first place, thats why i had three of them, but this may have been a laptop/network/firewall issue.
(btw, all require you to install the server-side version on the pc, and be running when you want to use it.
I use itap mobile touchpad. Works great and offers gestures for two fingers for scrolling and stuff.
It also has a menu thing for volume and player control with pause play mute and stuff. I'm happy with it
Unified remote is pretty good especially because it has a whole range of remotes for various programs

I would recommend you XBMC!!!
It's a media center that can be controlled with any android device and play almost every kind of media that I know (mp4, mkv, avi, divx... It even plays img, iso and many more)
Give it a try!!

Off topic i know but thanks for the tip on XMBC, looks like a good replacement for Media Center and has phone remote control built in; off to install after work. Thanks
Hello ! :highfive:
I'm looking for a solution to use my "unlocked (thank you )" Surface like a remote of my HTPC which is running W8 + Media center ?
Both devices are connected to the same private network.
any solution ? I could be very happy to replace my harmony remote

Quite a few metro remote apps in the Windows store. Reviews are less than stellar.
I use Ceton companion on my Window Phone which works very well and they have an RT version in the works.
What about just using Remote Desktop or TeamViewer?
why not..
but I think the remote desktop app don't allow you to Stream video !
but you can stram farcry 3 .. ? funny !
but it's not what I want !
Only two remote app on the store but nothing free ( for the moment)
Um... the Surface (and all Win8/Windows RT devices) have the Remote Desktop program (mstsc.exe) built in...
ok but no streaming of the media-center video (tv) with mstsc.exe
vlc is ok bug with lot of lag
I think I need two different apps:
one to control MCE like a remote.(only)
- two apps available on the store (nothing free)
A second to Stream MCE (tv, videos) on my surface.
my dream-> an app to Stream MCE tv on my surface (first screen) and for my part I play farcry 3 on my tv (second screen)
But I think it's only a dream !
Ceton just added their app to the store. I recommend it over any others I have tried. No trial but it's only $4.99
http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/f44a44e4-6cce-4f81-928f-897cb5263dce
it look so great
it's possible to Stream the video of media center too with this app ?
tv for example !?

GDTD, this is what I was trying (badly!) to get across on the other thread. Yes that works, and there are dozens of remote control programs, but ive yet to find one that is an exact "clone" of the screen content and maintains the fluidity, its possible to do one with out the other but ive yet to get both!
a 1280*1024 res pumps out about 900Mbps of RAW data, so you'd need on the fly compression / decompression to get that down to a more manageable 5Mbps using h.264 which will introduce an element of latency.
what im looking for probably doesn't exist, I foresee some wireless HDMI/USB combo before we get to that, the BT could replace wireless USB until that's released.
but the concept of having a tablet device, cloned to a main computer in quality and fluidity is pretty dam handy!
mstsc.exe is very laggy.
the app "Bureau à Distance" is really better ans free (fr).
http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/f...op/051f560e-5e9b-4dad-8b2e-fa5e0b05a480/m/ROW
but impossible to Stream video correctly.
"""""
for the remoting I have just purchased the app of CETONCORP "My Media Center"
seem to be a good app.
For the moment I met a problem for launch my movies:
mce say me "unable to find this loction file".
so :
for remoting -> ok
for Stream the tv flow on my surface -> still waiting for a solution !
thank you for your help
