Hello all,
I have an OEM HTC touch (elf, not elfin) and am trying to get ActiveSync 4.5 to work with it but unfortunately have had no luck so far. I have tried both an XP SP3 and a Vista SP1 computer (using the mobile device center thing on vista) and have had no such luck so far.
I have tried everything on the internet that i could find to fix this including trying both with and without advanced network functionality and after completely disabling Windows firewall (i am using AVG free and Windows firewall on the XP machine) all to no avail.
Is anyone able to suggest me something new or tell me if either of these are likley to work:
a) Rolling back to SP2 on XP
or
b) Trying an earlier version of ActiveSync
Has anyone else had this problem? I have seen a few cases on this forum in other phone sections and on the net but none of the solutions that worked for them or their phone have worked.
Thankyou
Ps. Is there any form of Linux alternative that anyone knows of? I run linux on my main PC.
Hi, I am having the same issue with my Czech T-Mobile Touch. I dont know what to do with it. I am considering a bigger hammer as I have no other ideas.
I still haven't figured out how to fix this but using WM5 storage works to transfer files.
No problems here..
.. with both Vista x64 SP1 and WinXP SP3.
what errors are you getting??
Solution.
It happend the same to me. The problem is the drivers on WXP sp3.
I use a WXp SP3 stand alone instalation.
When i installed Activesync, the windows asked me for de WXpsp3 installation CD, due to activesync setup changed the usb drivers. I ansewred NO. So i did not update Wxpsp3 drivers and manteind activesync setup drivers.
Other way, do not use enhace USB connections on the config panel on the HTC.
I did two things and my HTC is working fine on WXP sp3.
Don't look for any other explanations, thats it. I've beeing trying solutions many months and anything worked. Thats it.
Good Luck.
solution
had the same problem....
mine works when i plugin the usb to my cell partially....otherwise not...
just dont plug the usb cable end of the phone fully to mobile but leave a little space in between...

I was happy using my mda vario 2 via usb to my mce laptop
I purchased vista ultimate on release date and since then haven't been able to connect via usb.
I'm currently using it via bluetooth but would prefer my usb back
Has t-mobile released an updated usb driver for vista yet ?
I take it that you have downloaded the Active Sync for Vista 4.5
Once you have this downloaded, when you first connect your device it will install all the new drivers and carry out the process of setting up the syc data.
I hope that this will help you in some way

P.S. Search Microsoft.com for active sync for vista

Vista uses WMDC, not activesync.......
You don't need Active Sync 4.5 in Vista, you need Windows Mobile Device Center, its already available thru Windows Update or website
will WMDC allow you to run RUU programs from this forum, or do I still need to figure out the whole usbser.sys thing? I'm pretty savvy, but I'm still a bit confused on this point.
i have the Windows Mobile Device Center software.
I'm wanting to use the mda as a modem on my laptop so i need a usb driver.
The usb driver included on the install disc is for xp only and isnt compatible with vista.
Is that correct or have people have got it working ?
thanks in advance for any help
I can't even get my device to be reconnized by Vista anymore. WMDC doesnt detect it at all...
To install the modem drivers for vista, edit the usbmdm file like so adding
"include=mdmcpq.inf" in these three sections.
[Modem1.NT]
DriverVer=05/13/1999
include=mdmcpq.inf
CopyFiles=FakeModemCopyFileSection
AddReg = All, MfgAddReg, Modem1.AddReg, Voice, EXTERNAL, MDMGL007.V90_Voice,MDMGL004.ExtraCID,MDMGL001.TerseResp
[Modem1.NT.Services]
include=mdmcpq.inf
AddService=usbser, 0x00000000, LowerFilter_Service_Inst
[Modem1.NT.HW]
include=mdmcpq.inf
AddReg=LowerFilterAddReg
For the RUUs, you have to replace the WMDC drivers with the old ActiveSync ones; there's a thread on that somewhere. As for the USB modem, I would recommend switching to a WM6 ROM - it no longer uses the weird modem drivers, it just appears as a network device automatically, at least in XP, but I would assume Vista has that driver built in because XP does.
Ok i just got a new laptop which is loaded with the new (but crappy) microsoft vista operating system. first off let me say this, vista is an ultra headache to deal with! i dont recommend anyone using this operating system, unbuntu (linux) is way easier than vista.
anyways, back to where i was going.... my other laptop, which is loaded with windows xp, succesfully installed the usb modem drivers for the apache 6700. but whenever i try to install the same exact driver on my new laptop it says "windows cannot find the specified file"! i pointed the driver file , .inf, to the correct directory and everything. i downloaded another dialer and driver file and put it on the desktop, still windows cannot find the file even though i point windows to it (cot damn vista!).
this leads me to believe that this driver file does not work under vista. can anyone else confirm this or tell me what im doing wrong? i tried many different ways of install the driver, but vista fails. please, can anyone help me?
no body huh?
vista and dun
i too have the same problem with vista... i have read and tried several "solutions" to this but none have worked for me- my computer keeps installing a treo driver which doesnt work- funny part is i can do a BT DUN @ about 115.2kbps but if i push it too hard the phone freezes... i have been thinking about installing xp on my brand new laptop that came with vista.
Anyone figure out how to install USB drivers on Vista, mines also installs Treo Drivers on its own i can't stop it from doing that, any insight?
I am using a PPCGeeks Rom (LennySH i think) and it has an application called internet sharing. When connected with my Vista laptop the laptop uses it automatically for internet no additional drivers needed.
It also has a bluetooth setting that Vista will use to connect to a "personal area network" and your online without the cable. However the usb connection is faster.

To pull this off you will need a second account on your Vista machine.
Click start and >> switch user. Login to your alternate windows profile.
Run WMDC. You will notice that it works on this profile. Once it finds your device, log off switch back to your main profile.
In my case this allowed WMDC to continue recognising my device and synchronisation worked fine.
i found this after more than a day on forums!
Be aware that Vista SP1 has apparently created some underlying USB problems from time to time. There's no known fix as yet, but I found that at some point after applying SP1 (32-bit version), my existing USB stuff worked, but any "new" device would not install. Turns out that the INFCACHE.1 file got corrupted as well as several of the USB-related .INF files, and since these files tell Vista how to modify the registry and where to place specific driver modules, you're pretty much toast. You can search Microsoft's Knowledge Base and see what they are saying about USB driver/INF corruption. OBTW, do not try to simply copy the "missing" .INF files into \Windows\INF - that does NOT work in all cases. Unfortunately for me, I had to completely reimage my machine. After that, I've not had any problems (fingers crossed).
I am having trouble getting my Wizard to communicate with a computer running Windows XP and ActiveSync 4.5. It's been awhile since I've synced it to an XP machine, as the one I primarily use is Vista, and it seems to work fine. When I plug it in it either sees it as an internet connection, or if I disable the advanced connection settings on my device it seems to install it correctly, but then it doesn't open up ActiveSync.
I'm running a custom WM6 rom that I installed about a year ago, and was looking to upgrade, which I hear XP is the most reliable for. Any idea what the problem could be? I also don't seem to be able to open Activesync by itself when the device is not installed, could it be a problem with the program itself on my XP machine?
yes
It must be the problem on the xp machine unisntall the activesync reset your pc... reinstall it and then i suggest you... if you will upgrade make a hardreset before plug your device to sync.
Well, that got ActiveSync working again on the PC, the icon showed up on the bar and I was able to open the program. But as soon as I plugged in my device, the program closed again, and now it won't open. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, but I got the same result. Any other suggestions?
I'm using windows 7 and wanted to change ROM, i was wondering if the .net 3.5 thats recommended and needed for the HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex has any complications or if indeed is need at all?
can't comment on the tool you talk about
but win7 is the first windows that comes
with .net 3.5 installed from the start
I tried to flash my mobile from a Vista PC and I got problems with it.
So I went into the basement and used my old XP Computer.
And it worked flawlessly
Maybe Windows 7 works better, but I don't think so. Just try it and install .NET 3.5 and start RUU.
If it doesn't work, you got to look for a XP Computer

Maybe you had to install the cracked drivers (youwe got 64 and 32bit version), sometimes you need to disable the USB connection under WMdevice Center, put the device in bootloader and then run RUU update.
Argh sorry, totally forgot to mention that.
But I had tried (nearly) everything:
Flashing without changes in Vista (just WMDC installed)
disabled/enabled "allow USB connections"
normal/cracked drivers
...
So if somebody know what's wrong, please tell me ^^
If your using USPL you will need to update the HTC USB drivers as it will not detect the device, if you have flashed the hard SLP then you needed worry, it works fine, even in Windows 7, 32 and 64 bit
HSPL didn't work with my 32bit Vista, even not after updating the drivers
But that's Windows: Sometimes it works, most time it doesn't
Put HSPL from friends PC and than @ home just do upgrades via SD card
Thanks guys, some good info there, i'm liking windows 7 at the moment so will keep tryin to find a way to the HSPL, tried that friends option NikPraskaton but he has windows XP and is not detecting the phone anymore
