Hi everyone!
I´ve got a problem and would like to share my experience with u. I have just bought the HTC TyTN and tested everything, but what I can say is in comparission with some ipaqs I have also owned in the past, the wifi signal reception in the TyTN is very low.
Does anyone know any way 2 improve the wifi singal reception on that model?
Any soft, hardware, change of whatever, ....
Any help or experience would be appreciated.
Thnks in advance.

WiFi strength is not brilliant. Settings>Connections>Wireless Lan>Power Mode gives a performance option, but I don't see much difference.

Thank u Mike.
You´re right, but that is not what I´m looking for, because as u say, that doens´t make much difference.
Thanks again for your contribution

You're straight outta luck here mate - big phone, lots of stuff to power, more powerful CPU to run + small antenna = lower signal strength.
I find that the device can cope alright though so long as the signal is moderately stable (it could be really weak but as long as it doesn't deteriorate too much too fast, my phone doesn't usually have any issues staying connected).
Hi,
One of the really disappointing things about the Diamond was it's poor ability to to hold onto a network, especially 3G. In place where you'd get 100% full bars on a nokia, you get maybe just 60% on the Diamond.
So.. have HTC corrected this flaw on the HD? Any cell phone that has poor reception is not worth buying.
what is you experiance? is it god or bad? Will I be disappoined after spending over £500?
Thanks
Mark
I would also like to hear how the Touch HD is performing on 3G compared to the Diamond. As this is the only reason for me to get the Touch HD.
Thanks!
I may not be much help here as my last phone din't support 3G so don't know what coverage is like in my area but i have had my HD for 5 days now and have only ever had a 3G connection about twice and it was a very weak signal at that, my connection always falls back to edge which is very disappointing.
Have had mine for 5 days now and have no issue's what so ever with signal strenght, am in a 3g covered area all the time and have yet to have it drop the signal on me.
Not so good for me...
I live in a poor reception area and have tried sim cards for Orange, T-Mobile and 3 and I can confirm the HD does not seem to get a signal, my Hemes would JUST get a signal and was good enough to leave on the side in the house for the push email and phone to ring, I always had to goto the window to talk though, but the HD only works at all if I go outside.
I really like the HD, the larger screen is perfect for me having quite big fingers, I even forgive the poor shutter performance of the camera, but a phone that gets no signal in my house is very close to a deal breaker for me and am extremely unhappily considering returning for a refund.
Incidentally I used to get the same problem with my old universal but not my Blue Diamond, I tried changing radio versions on the hermes to see if I could make it better than ever but the 3 different radio roms I tried all had the same signal strength.
I contacted HTC this morning (0845 8900079) they said there was no known issue and offered no help other than for me to return the handset
I'm not a happy nerd.
As long a the reception is as good as my Touch pro I'm all good. I've herd its better than the Touch pro.. I would find it hard to believe it would be worse since it uses the same hardware..just a different radio rom. We do know the GPS reception is better than the Diamond or Touch Pro from user tests.
hmmmn
Same processor etc, but different form factor must mean differences of layout of the components within, so things like the positions of antennas must be a factor in signal quality, difficult to say that if a touch diamon/pro/hd share hardware they will all have good reception.
All I know for sure after my tests in my rubbish signal area is that the Blackstone does not perform as well as my Hermes.
I cannot confirm this. I think my Touch HD in weak signal areas performs much better than my old Hermes. Where I always had 50% signal strenght now I have 90 to 100%. Also the HSDPA is available much more than just 3G. I think signal wise this is a fine piece of engineering.
Network is working brilliantly for me.
It autoconnects to my known networks perfectly and fetches all my mail without flaw.
I also noticed that contrary to the other HTC devices people at the office own, my HD has a battery lifetime of over 4 full days with WiFi constantly conencted.
Not sure what to make of it then, i've just done some more tinkering and still the hermess (orange M3100 running wm6.1 and latest eu radio) is getting a single bar of network on my window sill compared to a constant network searching on the blackstone, i wonder if i have a dicky blackstone, perhaps an exchange is the way to go. I'll be really pleased if thats what it is, i want to love the HD!!

I'd exchange it..could be a rare lemon. It may just be the performance on this particular line of Qualcom chipsets. Most have reported the signal being better than the Diamond and Touch Pro, which if thats the case is great. I have never had issues in weak signal areas of my house dropping a call with my touch pro or old tytn II.
Hi foks,
I'm getting my Silver Xperia this Friday (Can't wait)
Got some questions.
1. Hows the Camera?
2. Hows the flash/flashlight?
3. Hows the speaker sound?
4. How is the sound quality trough 3.5mmjack? (Or does it depend on what ear pieces you use?)
5. Hows the battery life? I'm almost 24/7 on msn 3G in some cases H and my TyTN II starts in the morning with 100% and ends in de evening 50/45%. How is this on the Xperia?
6. Hows the scroll pad?
7. Hows the panel?
8. Hows the phone in general?
9. Xperia X1, or Touch HD???
I've used the Xperia for 2 hours a while ago (Demo) and coudn't test everything cause the software wasn't correct.
Thank you.

Take your time and read some posts on this board. You will see that all your questions are answered in detail.
Edit: What the hell I will answer them even if I don't own one yet (but I've read many posts here).
For a 3.2 megapixel camera it is good but seems average, competing with other phones that have more megapixels.
The Flash is a LED light and as all LED lights it fails to be a proper flash. It helps a tiny bit to give some light in dark areas.
Average, some people complain it is too quiet while others are okay with it.
The sound quality is quite good from the 3.5mm jack. If you have cheap earbuds it will sound bad. With better equipment you will always have better results. That's the case for all audio devices.
Battery life is excellent considering other phones. This is a major plus for the xperia.
For scrolling it is good, though some members are annoyed if used for directions (instead of the standard direction pad) because they find its behaviour erratic. You can calibrate it for your needs, with the sensitivity options or disable it completely.
Average. Some panels are quite good, others are just gimmicks. The transition from portrait to landscape seems a bit laggy. Other than that it seems to work okay. Unfortunately panels don't run in parallel, so when you change from the Radio panel to another FM-Radio stops.
The phone is pretty good although some people question its high price. The craftsmanship is among the best. My opinion is that it is the best WinMo phone right now. When it matures it will definitely pay off its value.
Do you want a large screen (same resolution) or a hardware keyboard? If you need keyboard go for X1 if not go for HD.
Next time search please.

That is a personal decision. If u don't mind not having a keyboard then go touch hd otherwise i would go xperia x1 i personally wouldn't even have the touch pro in the ranking.

I do know your rep so I'll chime in..
Camera is about the best I've seen on a htc device, but that doesn't say much it's okay within obvious limits, video is pretty good..
flash is htc LED flash, say no more.
speaker is tinny and weak, as expected, single tiny speaker that you can cover with your hand far too easily, this has good and bad points.
Earpiece during calls is superb, plenty loud and people sound very clear with wonderful deep roundness to it. I described it to someone yesterday as like listening to BBC Radio 4! I also get comments from people telling me how clear and loud I sound, my Dad keeps phoning me 'cos he can actually hear what I'm saying for a change.
headphone sound through included headset is superb, rich full lows and really zippy high, and that's without the audiobooster. it looks like the vodafone tweaks have boosted the lows and reduced the highs a bit.
Battery life is good after first couple of days (of playing far too much). SE appear to have done some work on tweaking this, especially standby. I left mine on without using it last night, it lost 10% in 10 hours
poor connection (constant searching), UMTS bowsing and WiFI kill it though lost about 40% in 3 hours.
I've grown to love the optical touchpad, at first I hated it, and set the sensitivity all the way down, but with use I've set the sensitivity really high and use it instead of the D-pad keys most of the time.
Panels I find are boring very quickly, the card effect is good to show off down the pub. Pretty gimmicky overall, works very well to impress p*ssheads though! TF3d works very well, for me at least and is better..
Maybe I'll install the SDK and see what you can actually do with them, potentially it looks like you could use them as a container for running today dlls I think.
Overall phone is best WM device I've tried, I was a bit cautious coming from the Athena, but I've even got used to the small size (for me at least it feels small) but that's cos the last two phones were Uni and then athena.. And I've got huge hands, so it disappears, there's once or twice I've left the house and gone back to find the phone as it's so much smaller than those two you don't notice it's there, to realise that I've got it in my pocket all along! (a bit embarrassing as I've got music playing)..
I did contemplate selling it and getting a HD, but I've really grown fond of this, if I was offered a direct swap I'd be tempted but I'm very very happy.
FM radio is okay, don't tend to listen to radio much, but it picks up all the local and national channels here.
Main drawback is that it's probably the most mainstream WM phone there's ever been, I think that's a good thing, but it does mean we've got loads of new users in here that don't really understand what XDA_Developer is about and think people are here to tell them how to use their new pocket power ;D
:edit: one more thing, and something I noticed the first time I turned it on, the Wifi is the best I've ever used. I was picking up a signal from my router at the end of the drive, that's better than my laptops Sparklan a/b/g/n
I'm getting about 3 times more routers picked up travelling through built up areas than I ever did with the athena.

Couldn't agree more.
Hello all my first post here
I wanted to buy HTC TOUCH HD to replace my N95 8GB since i like WM phones but i have some questions before doing this:
1_How is the overall build quality of this phone ?
2_How is the audio quality in both headset and loudspeaker ? for example compared to devices like my N95 ?
3_How is the screen sensitivity?
4_Is it upgradeable to windows mobile 6.5?
i've many reviews but i wanted to ask the people who own this phone
Thanks
build quality is outstandind
touchscreen is wonderful, can even be tuned with a 3rd party program (hdtweak).
I have myself been running a custom made wm6.5 for about 3-4 months already, but it's everyone's choice if you want to use custom made or stick to stock.
can't really say or know if htc is going to release a stock 6.5 for touch hd or not.... those who know are not allowed to say - those who don't know have grown bored to continually to ask that
abe
thanks and how is the sound quality ?
Amiri,
The phone's build quality is sturdy. The only point is that it creeks once in a while when it is at a certain angle in the central part of the back cover due to the empty hollow space between the back cover and the battery. Slipping a piece of folded paper will be able to fix this issue easily if it bothers you that much.
The screen sensitivity is fine. However, due to the nature of resistive screens, the corner of the screens are not as sensitive as the center portion of the screens. In reality, we're talking about a 20 ~ 30 % difference in pressure required. Will you notice this? Yes. Will it bug you? Unlikely.
And no, the TouchHD will not be getting the -official- 6.5 upgrade. However, I'm sure rom cookers will get theirs in. If you want the stock upgrades, go with TouchPro2 or TouchDiamond.
Cheers.
thanks well i like TOUCH HD more than Pro2/Diamond2 because of bigger screen also i like its design more,
but u guys didn't talk about the audio quality, how is it ?

TC,
I'm sorry but I don't know much about the headjack quality as I don't use it much. However, the speaker is pretty hollow and low on the bass. Nothing to yell about. My w800i has a much better speaker.
I'm sure the headjack output will be good if you used quality earphones.
Cheers.
the sound quality through the headphone jack is outstanding !
i have the nokia N95 as well and i can tell you that it is much better and much louder (the n95 was not that loud, at least compared to the HD).
i don't know about the speaker quality though. it's good for calls but no clue about music...
by the way, the stock earphones are good enough (at least for me, but i'm not a music whore)

hey mate, congratulations on making your mind for the move!
I too had changed from nokia n95, first time going for a windows mobile, and here are my thoughts..
about the build, it seems solid, compact and no squeezes what so ever.
touch screen sensitivity is alright i guess, i find it to be sluggish a bit when trying to browse through programs, its a bit glitchy. But then again, this is my first windows mobile, so am not sure how it performs compared to other similar devices.
About sound quality, having had a nokia n95, it is utterly disappointing, you have to say bye to the beautiful stereo sound of the n95. when you set a ringtone and receive a call, it sounds like an old radio ( the one with one speaker and a big knob to tune). headphone quality isnt a whole lot better either, definitely inferior to n95. You will have to sacrifice sound quality for functionality...and i must say, its worth it so far i am loving this phone, apart from the continuous paranoia of scratching the screen, and the constant wiping of fingerprints of the screen, this phone is truly brilliant!
One more thing...you will be a little disappointed with battery life, its 2-3 days max if you use it ONLY as a phone lol.
Good luck

Just to add to alien79's comments:
One thing the HD (and other windows mobile devices) has over the N95 is the ability to add additional software, tweaks, new OS, etc etc. If you search and read threads in this forum along with the wiki you'll notice that you can completely flash a new rom with tweaks for speed, smoothness and stability as well as fixes for sound quality, stuttering etc. All you need to do is search, read, ask questions and you'll find that almost everything you seek is awaiting you!!
Yes the most reason that i'm getting a winmo phone is because of its customizations but i really need a phone that has a good audio quality,i'm getting mixed results here one say its better than N95 the other guy says its worse my only concern is the phoens audio quality now,and i am getting mixed answers

You remind me when i decided to buy this phone and had sleepless nights thinking if it was a right decision , dont worry though, its a forum, getting different responses is anticipated, as people have different opinions, and different music taste. Ofcourse having a good headphones is going to improve the sound quality, and as Fallen star mentioned (not that i have tried yet, as am still a noob) maybe different roms and tweaks can improve sound quality. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about the phone`s speaker...you will have live with it, and having such a great phone in my opinion, makes it easy to ignore this minor slip....
lay back, relax and think microsoft

that is a decible scale, solely to measure the "loundness" of the sound, nothing to do with quality. Bear in mind that an airoplane as around 120 db sound scale, that aint pretty sound eh
So if the phones audio quality isn't good i guess i have to wait for a better model from HTC
Hello.
Ive just ordered a HD2.
But i would like to know what the sound quality is like when using the loudspeaker in the phone.
I currently got a hd1.. and that phone sounds... not too good.
Anyone could maby make a video of it or something?
THanks
The loudspeaker is unusable unless you're in a loud environment, it is like a megaphone even on the lowest volume setting.
Hi Hargibi,
The loudspeaker on my phone is loud and the quality and sound outputs are acceptable.
Does exactly what it says on the tin ie LOUD.......SPEAKER for environments where you need to use it.
Obviously in circumstances where you don't need the loudspeaker you would switch it off?

I have always used my speakerphone function on previous handsets to allay fears over radiation at the ear etc....I would hold the phone in my hand at breast height and conduct my calls like that, not whilst out and about of course. The HD2 has unfeasibly loud volume though (even at the lowest setting) and I just can't use it in a quiet environment - precisely the environment I would have used the feature previously. Stop defending it mate when it's obviously a problem. No other phone has anywhere approaching this volume, so are they all 'broken' and the HD2 is perfect?
Sunking,
Not defending it mate, just telling it as it is, from my perspective

Other than for using sat nav in the noisiest open-top Landrover, when would you ever need a LOUD speakerphone function though? I don't have a problem with the speakerphone being able to go loud, turn it up, that's fine! I just wish the volume control went (much) lower. I find the settings bizarre.
I use mine in large conference rooms where there's a load of us listening in. I'm afraid I don't have an open top Landrover.
As I said to you in another thread somewhere on here, you and this phone don't get on, which is a shame. However one size does not fit all so your decision to sell and move on is a good one, I think.
Don't want to take this thread off topic as its not fair on the OP, but what do you intend to buy now?
To the OP, there is a poll on here somewhere that gives an indication of how many people think the loudspeaker is good versus bad. Try and find it if you can, it makes interesting reading....

I dunno mate, the HD2 was the one for me and I waited impatiently for it! Now I don't know what to get....
Compared to N95 8GB and HD how is it? I just ordered mine from Amazon, was confused between HD2 and N900

What do you want to know, how loud does the speakerphone go, how good is it with music, does it crackle and distort etc? I'll tell you now though, the N95 has wayyyy better speakers than the HD2. What the HD2 specialises in is LOUDNESS.
