SunSpider javascript benchmark
I was too tired on Saturday but was going to do a side by side site test with an Ipad at work but didnt get to do it. Very anxious to see if this translates into real world results.

I don't see the Androids swimming though. Did they demo a customized version?

Yup they demoed a custom version. Still running the basic benchmark, but in a more graphical way so that it can really show the difference.

App Development

Anyone know what the average price for 3d games are?
Thinking of turning a fps game, a tank game, into an android app. Or maybe even bring farmville to it.
I know it's not cheap, but wondering if anyone knew what the price range would be.
That's relative. Depends of a few factors, like the type of game, the level, features etc. Few of them runs for like $4.99, so goes for $9.99. Just search the market for keyword "3d" or "3d game" and see if I can get a pattern or something to work with.

lol I meant like developing the game itself. hiring a team of coders to make the app.
Lmao, my bad def.ly will be high. Thought u were saying u can or you are going to do it yourself and would like to know how much to sell it for.

For a **** game you are probably looking at a minimum of $3,000 US. For a quality job, at least $10,000.

I was thinking around there as well. Right now I'm thinking about taking all the zynga fb apps, and converting them for android. Most of the zynga apps are 2d, and not that extensive. I think i could get each one done for 3-5k. What you think?
@jahnile - I want to get it done, like get it coded by someone else.

they can cost a lot more. I was thinking of getting an fps based tank game done. I found it online on some website, and it had chat, you could buy upgrades and stuff. Was based in flash. Got a quote on getting it recoded for a fb app, and they wanted like 45k for it.
Now that's bread,so it all depends on how much u willing to spent.

That would be heavy gunner, already been done. Id like to see a fps online multiplayer game. Like doom or halo, something like that with stats, exp points, live chat and objectives I think that would be a huge hit. I know theres toon wars but something more realistic.
ANY FPS game in 3d is going to be an absolute minimum of 10k... you are looking at something more like 100k if you want to do what I think you do.

nah, the tank game I found was a lot different. It would have 50-60 different tanks with upgrades, missles, etc.. And you could move in any direction, and aim and fire. There would be about 5-10 people playing per map. The front end was made in flash while the backend was java (i think. from my analysis of the http packets, it looked to be java running).
I'll see if i can find a link. My friend told me about it first, and in order to check it out I had to make an account. After few minutes of "testing" it out, it got addicting. Was sitting their playing it for an hour or so.
edit: found it

be warned, VERY addictive. Although if i were to make that into an android app, I would make some changes to it like speed and controls.

Hey guys my girlfriend has an app where she has live webcams as her wallpaper. Like of a beach. Where can I find this? I looked everywhere.
Also, any suggestions on a good digital clock w/weather widget?

It's a pain to lug around on my back so I just went to Walmart and bought a wagon, much easier in my opionion. I haven't charged my battery in 35 days. The battery did cost about $5,000. It did cost about 10x as much as the phone... oh well.
Oh yeah thanks for the info, ill go and check it out!

Ok now it makes sense. You can choose the refresh rate. Never heard of that before

With everyone talking about the data speeds, can someone please explain this...

I don't know a lot about all this datta speed talk. So I ran the speedtest app and this is what I got: Download=3210kps and Upload 317kps
Is this good or bad...it's not on wifi either
A senior member should be able to use the search function. There are tons of post about this.

the download is good, however the upload speed is capped. My nexus one on ATT had similar download speeds as you point out but my upload speeds were typically 1200 - 1500 kbps (quite a bit higher than your example). Also, IIRC, the ping time was significantly lower on my nexus one than my Atrix.
A lot of people are complaining about slow upoad speeds; what you're seeing there.
ATT is somewhat throttling the upload a d as a result, the whole internet browsing experience slows down a little.

What I dont get: why throttle the people you KNOW will be running these speed tests? We're the geeks! Who else proactively buys a 4G phone right when it comes out other than to mess with it and test its speed?
Their actions continue to baffle the hell out of me.
Here is to hoping that AT&T is secretly reading these thread and just uncaps the speeds lol haha

Quadrant Schmadrant.... take a few graphic heavy sites and download them...compare to your previous phone
I.also have it on ATT...trying for a week.
Speed test is 2500 avg-, Quadrant is 3200+, real world performance (site download times) is just OK. Ping times are relatively slow for some reason.
