Can anyone tell me what is that and how to use it ? I switched that on in the phone and take a photo. But it seems that there is no difference with the photo without gps.
Thanks
The coodinates from the GPS are in the EXIF data of the picture.
Thanks
Thank you. Seems a bit use less. I need to download some program to read that information. But good to know that.
Hi own both a S/E C905 and a S/E X1i and the funny thing is even with the new firmware for X1 we still don't have geotagging for the X1 eventhough I paid 1000 USD for the X1 and only 500 USD for the C905...
Here is my youtube vids of it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVawNLN8-ws (part1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SAF8l94rs4&feature=channel_page (part 2)
you can't really compare x1 with other sonyE phones as sonyE can only do minor changes to wm on x1 where they got piles of control on symbian or whatever os they use on other devices
Well I have geo-tagging on my X1
Geotag is in the beta release of r3aa I suppose, with other new stuff? It's not in the official release though.

I know its the cab formally known as R3A camera file. That camera adds a gps coordinat tag to a picture using GPS reciever (not A-gps). But neither GMAP 2.0 or GMAP 3.0 on the X1 can read these coordinants like G Map can on C905.
So that isn't "real" geotagging feature in my opinion.
Sorry, to me Geotagging is marking the EXIF with the Lat/Long. Just because the WM Google Maps application doesn't read it doesn't mean the phone doesn't have Geotagging.
Upload the pics to Flickr or Picass and you'll see the location.

Yeah, I totally agree with you.
Euroman28, have you tried itje's ROM (ot other ROMs) with Topaz Camera? That Camera has the Geotagging feature too.
I have the new X1 ROM, and I see the satellite when I start the camera and I wait for the waves to show up so that I know it has locket, but when I take the picture, how do I see these coordinates afterwords. I couldn't find them anywhere.
And what software do I use to read them. I tried Picasa, but when I open the picture, there is a Geotag button underneath it, but it doesn't show me the location, but ask to add one.
So when I take a picture, with what software and how do I see this picture on the place on Earth that I took it???

Couldn't agree more. In fact, there is HTC footprint to do the same thing on X1 too.

Am I the only one who can't see the geo tag. Please, can someone answer my question.
Please guys, can someone help me use my geotagging too. Can someone answer the question I asked, please.
Hi everybody,
i've got the same problem. I am not able to get my photos geo-tagged by the camera. I've got the latest firmware update (R3AA007), but there is still no geo-tagging support. I've developed a simple windows app to read lang/long from exif, but it failed. I've also uploaded the photo to flickr, but there is just no geo-tagging.
I am really pissed off, because i've spend 600 euros for a device that has built in gps, but doesn't support geo-tagging. I will certainly not buy the successor and spend another 600 euros, just for some very trivial software changes.
Is there a difference between GPS and A-GPS?
But is there an application (on PC or WinMo) which can pinpoint the location, where you took the location, on a map?

A(ssist) GPS. If the name could you give you the answer. Why not google for "AGPS wiki". HTC Footprint can pinpoint the location on Google map.
I would suggest you found you try a cook rom (itje, me, or many others) with the new R3A camera apps (or HTC Camera) that support geo-tagging to EXIF.
Quick question
If we can have GPS photo turned on and take a photo
Can the pics be used in Garmin as a goto option?
similar to Tom Tom?
Or is it only a Geotagging option?
And yes I did search Garmin and many other places
Bump... Dont want it lost in clutter
Some one must use Garmin
not possible

Well thanks anyway
Hey all, thanks for all the awesomeness around here. I would really like to be able to geotag a photo when I take it. I have tried
locr - crashes upon first run of program, never opens
edit: in forum locr states that they do not support smartphones
gpsed - does not tag on the phone
GPSToday - not for smartphones
Any solutions? Thanks!

Well, there's a registry setting you can change to enable the GPS photo option, but unfortunately it seems there's more required to get it working as it's not actually adding the GPS information to the pictures.
yup
I just came back to update this with that info I found about the hklm/software/htc/camera/p9 enable change and if anyone had a smartphone solution with this. Yeah, no exif reader I use finds any location info in the header of the pics I take with gps photo...
So close I can taste it!
I'm running the HTC TUR 1.61 ROM and have installed BsB Tweaks 1.6 so that I can access the hidden camera modes to use GPS Photo. The GPS Photo mode initializes and works. But when I go to 'Show on map' it puts the latitude as a positive value rather than a negative so that it places the location exactly the same distance the other side of Greenwich that it should be. The longitude is absolutely spot on but the latitude, if it is supposed to be 50 miles west of Greenwich, ends up being 50 miles east of Greenwich!
Is anyone else experiencing this bug using this ROM and tweak combination?
yep mine is inaccurate as well... off by some 500m
GPS Photo Mode - can't see geotag info
I completed the following from the excellent "things you may not have known thread" by tboy2000
14 To enable GPS Photo mode:
Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P10
set "Enable" to "1"
I have searched to see if I can find what happpens next, I tried taking a few shots normally (not footprints), then with google maps and gps running but in neither case could I see any geotag info when i copied the pictures to picasa which picks up geotagging.
Please could someone tell me what I need to do. I have obviously missed something I Have checked the regedit is still present as ajusted above, thats not the problem, its just how to benifit from the result!
Thanks Simon.
ops, reallly sorry jumping on this thread with this separate question, i meant to post it separately. I will see if any replies then if not will re post. sorry again.

I have a problem with GPS photo latitude too!
Currently I'm on latitude -22degrees 48' 37.03" (south), but when I see ask the photo properties in my Windows desktop, I see for the latitude: -2147483648 degrees 0' 37.03"!
By the way, I should note that -2147483648 = 0x8000.0000.
The longitude is ok!
Anyone else? And more important: how to solve this?
@creed: I didn't understand some points in your post: what program are you using to "show on map"? And latitude is related to the equatorial plane; not Greenwich. So, there's something odd in your message.
@Si607: I wanted to to something similar to you, but using Flickr because I saw in one a reviews that Flickr is more precise in its geotags than Picasaweb. Anyway, if we don't solve this problem first, there's no use to the automatic geotagging at all.
Edit: My ROM version is 1.48 and I used BsB Tweaks too.

Sorry you are quite right. It's my longitude that is out. I used Picasa to display the location. It was very accurate with respect to latitude within 10m.
Hi guys.
I have the same problem, im mi case its longitude value, i have registry tricky (bsb tweaks).
When try to show on map (google maps), gps values on exif data represent wrong position.
GPS Longitude 0.509792 degrees
in the mediterranean sea
Where te real position its:
GPS Longitude -0.509792 degrees
I think the problem is negative values. I have HTC HD2 (rom bsb 3).
Any tip to correct this?
Thanks

I cant find a GPS Photo mode either. Did you ever find out how to get it to work?
You have to chose capture mode on the camera app, chose next screen and then chose the gps photo mode, it will then find your gps and let you take a photo.
I've not tried mine so not sure if mine is accurate or not
the negative value is sooo annoying~
I do not think many people has tried this GPS function... Or maybe there's not many who is in the southern hemisphere and use this function ...

Hi!
I'm in southern hemisphere (see the flag ) and as I said before (post #5), my longitude is ok but the latitude is completely nonsense. Its strange... everybody here seems to have longitude problems, while I have latitude problems.
So I gave up this mode and started using only footprints. It's not as practical nor has as many options as the camera mode, but it does the job.

I m about the -ve value of latitude too, if you use something like EXIFreader, you ll see the lat = -XXX, and south , while in my HTC DIAMOND, there 's no -ve value at all.
I had some GPS pic when I was in northern hemisphere, and they are all good...
if I manually type in the value from the EXIF in google map , without the -ve , it ll spot the correct location....
Temp solution is to use a EXIF editor to pick the -ve value and edit it to a positive value
I find nice solution using freeware GPSToday (Open market), in mi HD2 works very well and geodata is correct now. Software GPSToday have a plugin for auto geotagg photos, you only need activate this plugin, provide in plugin settings DCIM\100MEDIA directory and RUN.
Mine is: \\Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA
http://www.geoterrestrial.com/ (GpsToday)
When software adquire satelites ask for create account. You can create and disable later real time localization.
http://www.geoterrestrial.com/geotagger/
When you shot photo, GPSToday launch audible sound to inform you pic was geotagged.
Works great and geotagg photo its correct now.
Using its very easy, launch GPSToday, start adquiring satellite, left bottom corner (initially in red), when satellite status adquiring green color return to windows home and launch photo in normal mode. Voila
Of course, GPSToday have a more interesting tools, totally recomended.
PD: I know, mi English sucks
I heard about that GPStoday before, but it's known to suck up a lot of batterie life
I hope someome will fix the GPS problem!

I do not have Gpstoday started all the time.
Always close app after take photo. This app not running as service too, i don't understand where is battery drain in this case.
