Just got the HD yesterday, awesome phone! Before that I owned the TYTN2. When I received a sms on the TYTN2 my backlight turned on so I could no only feel the sms but could also see that I have received and sms..
The HD has a notification led on top which does not make it easier to see if I have a sms, but next to this it does not turn on my backlight!! Does anyone have the same issue and can it be fixed???

Try installing Schaps Advanced Config and enabling wake on SMS
I have downloaded the AC, but for some strange reason the wake on sms feature is not visible...strange!
However, by doing some more research I found this:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
Find the DisableSMSWakeUpEvent
Change value to 0
Soft Reset
Works!

Hi,
I dont know when or why this has happened, but suddenly my sms sound was gone. I read some threads that referred to this happening because threaded sms was disabled the wrong way. But i have threaded SMS enabled, aswell in settings as in HD tweak. I turned in settings - sounds & notifications on: Events Programs and Notifications. Although i originally had those switched off because i dont want those sounds. With that turned on now when i get a text message I hear: Boss you have a new message. Like wtf... I just want the original SMS sound back. Can anyone help me? Btw i Run Dutty's rom 1.7

Yeap, same problem here! No sound, no vibration anymore. I did a hard reset just to have the sound/vibration again. After sending one SMS, same old sh...!
==> Edit: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings and change "SMSAvailable" to dword:0 causes the problem! Setting the d-word to 1 brings back sound as well as vibration!

What is the ringtone you have selected ? Make sure that ringtone file is available under the Windows folder.
By trial and error, I found that SMS ringtones are picked up from Windows folder only, whereas all the other tones (incoming call, reminder etc) are picked up from Windows/Rings or My Documents/My Ringtones folders. I could be wrong - or have a bug in my HD - but this works for me ....

Hello there, back to XDA after using Nokia for more than a year. I bought today my HTC TOUCH HD, everything was fine until i noticed that i got 5 sms without any notification. I tried to send sms to my HTC and suprisingly i get no notification although i set everything correcting in the Text message notification in settings.( flash , vibrate , tone ). Please i need help as i feel not going to keep using it if no solution can be found.

i guess that something is freaked up somewhere. Hard reset and eventually reflashing ? do you actually HAVE the sim available? like making calls and everything
btw: the correct setting in the notifications window is not Messaging: new message, is messaging: new TEXT message.
Never Mind i got it working using some registry tweaks.
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL : DisableSMSWakeUpEvent <--set to "1" by default. Change value to "0"

Not receiving SMS when the HD is not on standby or SMS alerts not playing has been an issue for many users;
For example see the following threads

However, I have now found a method that works all of time (I have not missed a SMS alert now for over a week and that is 200+ texts received)
You do, however, need to install the following software
HDTweak
Pockshield (other screen lock software may also work - but i've not tested them)
Set the following on your alert settings on your phone (this is just what I use, other settings should work fine too)
Vibrate on new SMS
Play sound on new SMS
Flash LED on new SMS (i've set this to indefinetely)
Show message on new SMS
Set the following in HD tweak
Wake on new SMS enabled
Then, every time a new SMS arrives, the phone will always wake up and play the SMS sound You don't have to worry about the keys becoming unlocked if you have the HD in your pocket, as pocketshield will be active and prevent the keys from working. If you aren't around to hear your alert your HD will just go back to sleep depending on your power settings, but the LED will continue to flash to alert you to the missed message.
Hopefully, this little quirk of the HD is now fixed for everyone

Q1) There are only 3 alarms available in Windows Mobile 6.5. Does anyone knows how to add more?
Q2) Also, I remember when i was using HTC Touch, when new SMS comes in, it appears on the screen and i was able to either 'hide' or 'open' the SMS. On HD2, when I set it to show new SMS, I can only hide it but I can't open it to read. Instead, I have to go through 'HTC Messages'. Does anyone knows how to have both options 'hide' (on the left) and 'open' (on the right) available when new SMS shows up?
Please see attached screenshots if I did not manage to explain well.

indeed, I've read about all e good comments about it. in fact, I installed it 2 months ago, but I encountered problems like battery drains n missed alarms. I've since uninstalled. maybe this problem is not too common with other users, but it was a problem for me..

Works well for me and no battery drain... also if you are on the lock screen you can tap the open widget then swipe the sms widget and it opens sms screen or if you tap on the task bar it will give you the list of things to look at and one of them is the messages screen...
For the SMS, why not just turn off on-screen notification. When you get an SMS you'll get the usual audio/vibrate alert, and an icon in the taskbar. You can then just click on the SMS tab icon at the bottom and you're looking at the SMS. 1 click and you're there.
For the alarm question... there's a registry setting for this, but I don't know what it is. If you use BsB Tweaks you can enable "Windows Notifications" mode which "Enables dismiss X time in notification". This is a crap description and I used to just ignore this option as it sounded completely uninteresting. Then I found out what it is.
With this enabled, you get the option to select a sleep time for an alarm when it's going off (see the attachment). I doubt my boss would be impressed if I chose the last option though
It will at least free up your second alarm as you could just snooze the first one for 10 minutes.
I am also interested in the being able to open an sms from the notification dialog...
On Q1: I've been using SPB Time since quite long time. The new edition 2.1.2 is really awesome. And it answers to your question
On Q2: When I receive sms I have sound + icon above on the taskbar. So if I click on the icon - "notification" window opens and after another click on new sms icon you see your sms. Just you pay one click more.

It would be nice if on the notification "balloon" you had a Reply button that would automatically open the thread where that sms is in...

indeed, i remember this option to open sms on notification used to be available in older wm versions. and we could also dismiss instead of hide the sms.

gosh, i have been using bsb since day one (4mths ago) n have never paid attention to this tweak. i will give it a try, thank you!
Hi to everybody,
some days ago i realized my Tattoo doesn't vibrate anymore when i receive sms or email, although it vibrates when i've an incoming call.
Also, the vibration function is still activated for the sms (both in the standard HTC program and in the handcent SMS program). I uninstalled handcent sms, but nothing changed, the phone is rooted but i didnt't changed anything else (the Home is still the original one).
Any idea about how to solve this issue?

I finally figured it out that i had a wrong configuration in the handcent sms notification options
Now everything's is working ok.
