Hi
A while ago, I bought a Trinity... It works fine but there's something that really drives me crazy... I saved the contact from my old cell to the SIM card and then copied them on my Trinity.. But now all the contacts' numbers appear with an 'own' name in my phonebook (name/M or name/H etc). Is it possible to reconcile them, so there's only one entry with all the numbers of the respective person?
Hope you can help me!
You're either going to have to do it the hard wayon your Trinity or sync to Outlook on your PC and do the editing there. Personally i'd go for the latter, but then mine came from Outlook in the first pplace and so were already in the one person - multiple number structure. They'd come from a Sony Ericsson before and that also did the same set up. Don't remember the last time i actually stored numbers on the SIM.
Is it possible to somehow send the contacts from one hand set to the other directly?
Theoretically, it is possible to send the contacts but my old sony-ericsson can't establish a connection with my trinity. However, I can send files to my Sony-Ericsson (I think there is a problem with my irda since I can't set the beam option to "always receive incoming beams" and there's nowhere an option to send something via infrared...) I've recently updated my device to WM6.1 with a ROM from this forum (with manilla)..

But shouldn't there be a built-in way to reconcile the contacts? Because WM exports contacts to the SIM in the same format (name/H;O;M;etc)
I don't have Outlook (since it isn't included in the home and student suite of Microsoft Office) and I'm definitely not gonna pay like 300 bucks for software I don't really need. I mean, why can't they make it Sync with Windows Life Mail (the program) as well?? Stupid MS^^

Is it possible to bluetooth contacts from a Wizard to another phone?
T'other half has a Nok6670 which has Bluetooth but no Infrared, I need to copy a load of contacts from my Wizard.
...with pocket informant you can select all contacts and 'beam' them (as vcards). Automatically the transmit devices IR and BT will appear and you can transfer them to the other one who can receive them with 'receive beam'...
Without PI you can sent contacts by BT, as vcards directly out of the contactslist, but only one at a time; it would take you ages if you've got a big list...

I'm going to d/l PI anyway as it looks pretty interesting aside from this functionality. But I'm confused about what you've written above...if I try and send a vCard it just creates an MMS ??
PI doesn't appear to be able to BT contacts either.
I'm GUESSING its a feature of the ROM? I'm due to upgrade sometime next week anyhow.
Might persevere with PI though, looks good, except some poor design on the icons, its not always obvious what pressing something is going to do.
...without PI when i tap&hold a contact and choose 'send as vcard' it copies it to \temp]vcard.vcf . Then i have to rename them into the desired contactname (otherwise it will just overwrite the old vcard.vcf) before i can BT them one by one...
I guess i don't get a mms posibility because i didn't installed t-mobile stuff after hard reset.
BTW I use PocketInformant2007

you can do it, just follow these steps:
one time work
use your favorite regedit, go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Obex
change DWORD value of "Isabled" from 0 to 1, save changes
reset or full off
you need to make target device is discoverable
then go to contacts, highlight several items (5 at a time), tap and hold->beam contacts
once you found nokia 6670->tap to send
you can also transfer the contacts through nokia pcsuite from outlook (if the contacts are the same) through USB cable or bt from host
Hi all. I have an Artemis. I want to copy my phone contacts from Nokia E50 to it. I tried from nokia to send all contacts at once via bluetooth, but nothing. If i send contacts one by one, it works. The problem is that i have 600 contacts and probably i'll get old moving them one by one. Is there an automatic procedure?
There is no way to send all contacts between these models via Bluetooth. Problem lies in VCF (virtual card file) format. I'm not very familiar with all standards but VCF consists of all details of only one contact. Function "Send all contacts" puts all separate contacts into one file and sends it. It is not the same as sending each contact separately. As far as I know only SonyEricsson models support multiple contacts in one file (it didn't work with Nokia 9300). The way I used many times is to synchronise two phones via Outlook.
Install http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_PC_Suite then either use bluetooth or a usb cable to sync your nokia contacts from you phone to outlook. Then use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activesync to sync outlook to your htc. Be careful with the order, or you will delete all your contacts. (something else, I found my "General" type numbers vanished, so change them on the nokia to "Work" numbers)
Its Easy Syncronise It With Ur Computer Using Outlook And Than Syncronise Ur Nokia With Ur Pc U Can Copy Contact From Out Look To Any Device Nokia Sony Ericcson Or Xda Mda Pdas Thats Why They Hav An Option Of Syncronising U Can Do Using Bluetooth All Of My Mobiles R Uptodate As Soon As I Enter My Room They Syncronisewith My Pc And Update The Contacts N Calender
copy contacts from your old phone to your new phone
Hi,
I had a similar problem, how do I copy my contacts from my old Sony Ericsson T610 to my Nokia ?
I did not have a sync cable for my Sony Ericsson T610, I tried to send the contacts from my T610 to the Nokia via Bluetooth and IR and was able to only send individual contacts. The "send all" option on the T610 failed miserably and wasted my time (both over Bluetooth and IR)
I got fed up. Finally I figured out a way to do it with zyb , its a nifty website with SyncML (there are others as well but this worked for me)
(the Artemis is supported by zyb so that should work as well)
http://www.unwiredconnect.com/gprssyncml.htm
Steps I used
***************
Synchronize your contacts from the old phone ( Sony Ericsson T610 ) to zyb.com
( You will need a WAP profile from your operator to do the Sync , so keep that handy, Or you can do it over the WLAN if your phone has WLAN, I had to use a WAP profile for the T610)
then change the SIM card to the new Nokia phone ( Nokia E61i)
then add a new phone in zyb.com (i.e. Add the Nokia E61i)
Synchronize on the Nokia E61i ( you will need the WAP profile again from your service provider or WLAN again)
Now all your contacts have been transferred from your T610 to your Nokia.
Viola !
I also deleted my zyb account after the contacts were copied to my E61i , paranoid I guess. You could continue with zyb for their core service (contacts backup and restore), but zyb is mutating to yet another facebook and thats not a good sign.
I had a full addressbook on my T610 (510 contacts) so it took some time.
Note: It will not copy the pictures attached to the contacts and complain that the sync failed. Ignore the failure and go to zyb to check if all contacts are there. It will copy the additional fields in a contact though.
Additional Note: You will have to use the merge feature on zyb if you copy more than once but thats a simple step.
Congratulations on your new phone
Data charges will apply when you use the WAP profile but I think I spent 3 NOK or 50 us cents or 40 pence or 60 euro cents and that was money well spent (this was the first and only time I actually paid for data traffic to an operator)
Note to the cheapos (like me): You can use zyb or any syncml service over WLAN on the Nokia E61i, so you need to use the data plan only for the upload from the T610 to zyb. You should be able to use WLAN over the Artemis as well but you need to check.
Good luck !
NOkia to windows mobile 6
right - I wasted a whole day on this, so don't want others doing the same. Outlook didn't work for me, so I had to find a workaround.
First, download net qin mobile guard onto your nokia phone.
Use that software(M guard), and click on back-up. Back up to your SD card.
THen..... take the .vcf file, and import it into google contacts (you'll have to set up a google account for this)
Then read the stuff online about how to sync your windows mobile with google.
et voila!
i'm pretty fed up of outlook and how it screws with my contacts *i recently updated, and it removed all the titles from the names which is VERY annoying.* not to mention when i add contacts to my phone, it does NOT add them to outlook (maybe i'm just stupid but when i tried to set it to phone, it DELETED all my contacts sans a few) are there any alternative programs that are a bit easier and funner to use?
thanks in advance.
in one word: no.
Outlook is the easiest way AND the most perfected.
There are a few other possibilities to avoid outlook but in my opinion a pda without outlook is useless.
If you encountered problem it might be
-correct active sync version ?
corresponding to that : correct outlook version ?
-correct settings in active sync ?
If you fail to syncronize with ac....dont even try other solutions.
i'm using activesync 4.5 and the outlook version 2002, i copy contacts and settings from outlook just fine, with the exception of it screwing with the titles and names a bit, it's the other way around that's giving me a headache.
what do you recommend the optimal settings be so that if something is new on my computer, it transfers to my phone, and if something is new on my phone, it transfers to teh computer
(also anyway to stop it from seperating the names and removing titles?)
thanks in advance.
seems to be a settings problem
So i only have a german verison of ac i don't know the english name for the settings.
But you have to tell ac to sync in both ways and give the mobile thing the priority.
Then your problem should be solved.
did that, and once more it deleted all the contacts on my phone except for like 3-4 .... either this install is screwy or something is going wrong, or i'm just an idiot.
i refuse to sync with outlook!
i used to, and i ended up with half a dozen duplicate contact and calendar entries for each one!!! i tried settings, etc, finally said to hell with it and set the phone to not sync with outlook. i feel your pain.
Good, now i don't feel like an idiot
I had similar frustration. I eventually set up my 8125 to its own email address, and turned off the sync-ing of contacts. I have two separate contact lists now, but I'm not losing contacts from my phone all the time, either.
I do not have problems with duplicated events, but I publish my Outlook calendar to the phone, not the other way around.
I never schedule from my 8125. I always tell people to send it to my email, so I can control it from my PC. I only use the handheld on meeting-heavy days, and then I'm only checking email, and not accepting meetings.
Using: WM5, ActiveSync 4.5, Outlook 2003 on Desktop
Well, there is an alternative. I run linux so AS isn't even an option for me. I have been using FinchSync since I got the phone and it has worked great. I can even sync anywhere I have a network connection without being at home.
FinchSync uses an http connection to sync contacts with Mozilla's Thunderbird email and address client as well as your datebook with Mozilla's Sunbird calendar. So far it has worked great. One hint though, take the time to read the install and configuration instructions on their website!
Hope this helps!

I absolutely hate Activesync. I update my phone contacts and appointments via my Tilt, and then hook it up to my computer only to find that Activesync is deleting them on my phone and restoring the older files on my two PC's. I think, "oh, well I must have the sync settings set improperly," so I check them on my PC and my Tilt... it turns out that it only goes one way: from the PC to the mobile device. (Please correct me if I'm missing something.) You can just disable the sync settings, but then what's the point of having the program installed?
Personally, I have few complaints about Outlook.
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to be giving PDASync a try. They seem to advertise all of the features I'm looking for, although it does carry a hefty price tag of $50.
http://www.laplink.com/pdasync/
I'm still not 100% sold on PDASync. It seems to lack the ability to sync internet browser favorites/bookmarks and custom file folders. The quest continues.
On a slightly brighter note, this seems like quite a useful list of syncing software.
http://pocketpccentral.net/software/sync.htm
i must use lapsync because i don't want all 1500 outlook contacts into my phone, so i filter them by category and only sync a certain category.
i dont sync bookmarks, but i know you can use AS to sync ONLY bookmarks. to sync custom files and folders, try mobsync - its free.
I Tried Laplink today, This needs ActiveSync to function properlyu (did not see my device attached). I am lucky I had trial software instead of paying $ 50
Friends,
I have bought a Jasjam, now the problem is can any one tell me how do i transfer my sms's frm my p990 to jasjam i have over 1000 saved sms's please help me out.
Is p990 bluetooth or ir capable? If so, Use that.... Cheers....
friend,
that isnt doing any good , i have to transfer my sms's also. how can i do that?
Have a search on the net for a tool to do this. I used something 2 years ago when I was making the same journey; problem is I don't recall the name of the tool.
If you take your time and do some intelligent searching of the net you will find a tool that will convert your sms to text files, allowing you to save them to a PC. You can then upload them into the new phone as text files and access them as yo wish.
WB
Thanks for your help. I will definitly try this
i have another problem also , when i transfer my contacts to outlook and then to my HTC 8525 i get something like :-
P990 Contact Name : John Sr.
HTC 8525 : SR. John
its mixing the first and last name, is there any tool present which i can use to make is back to normal , because if there isnt i have to do it one by one and i have nearly 1048 contacts present in my phone.
Again, if I remember correctly, you can state which way you want your names filed within Outlook; either surname then initials or vice versa.
You can also do this on the PPC itself within Contacts; however might be best to align them all within Outlook first then synchronise.

Hey I have some questions so I thought I might collect them all in the same thread =)
1) Any SMS replacement/software that will make the SMS-threading a bit more similar to iPhone? When I saw my mates iPhone I was very enticed by the look and feel of the threaded bubbles approach.
2) Some better guide to WIFI? And some better WIFI manager application. I need/want my phone to roam between different WIFIs with different settings. My work WIFI gives a proxy, my homewifi dont, most cafe WIFI doesnt use proxy either. I also want to make sure that my GRPS/3g is never accessed without explicit approval. Whenever I try to go to start -> settings -> connections I only find setups for modems(GRPS) etc. Never any good way to specify wireless, profiles and so forth.
3) Improve GPS. Right now (when I have internett at all on it) the position is off by ~50-100 meters.
4) Reverse GPS. I would like my phone to transfer GPS-information to a server (eg. via webservice or similar) so I can track my phone if it's stolen/lost. Not even sure this is possible but I would think it is.
5) Exporting numbers from a Nokia N95 -> Touch HD. I have synched all my numbers with my provider but it turns out they don't support HTC yet for synchronization (burn!!!!) and my simcard only supports 400numbers, not to mention I only found ways to copy 1 and 1 contact to simcard. I need a way to move larger amount of numbers (up towards a thousand) easily from an N95 to a Touch HD.
Best regards

I remember there was a software for a glofiish phone, that sent GPS position as sms to number specified if pin/security key(or smth like that) is entered incorrectly. I'm also searching for smth like this for HD.

Ah yea I could try that =) Is there anyway to prevent activesync at spesific locations from synching numbers into outlook though? I have large amount of private numbers I do not want synched into my outlook at work, nor do I want worknumbers to be synched into phone automaticly since I really don't want to end up accidentaly calling or texting people from work (even worse my bosses) drunk at 5 in the morning =)
I also tried mJustice now and got it to work half. +m to popup messagebox worked, locationcall.exe I have no idea what does, +g for gps did not work. Might be because Im sending text from same phone as Ive installed it?!

If you haven't found a solution yet, this is what I did when I moved from N95 to HD:
- In Outlook, go to contacts and create a new contacts folder. Move the contacts from the "main folder" to the new one. Your main contacts folder should be empty.
- Sync the N95 with Outlook. PC Suite allows you to choose the outlook folder you want to sync to, but ActiveSync doesn't . This is why you need to go through the first step.
- Sync the HD with Outlook. (see note below)
- IN outlook, delete the contacts from the main folder.
- Move the contacts back from the folder you created in the first step to the main folder.
- If you're done, to make sure that the contacts are not sync'ed again, disable contact sync in ActiveSync.
NOTE: the first time I sync'ed the HD with outlook, instead of copying all the contacts from outlook to the HD, it deleted all the contacts from outlook! It seemed that the sync process "believed" that the version on the phone was newer than Outlook's. To prevent this:
- When the n95 contacts are copied to outlook, create a new folder to back them up. If the main contact folder is emptied, then copy the contents from the "backup" folder back to the main folder.
