I believe that this also affects other HTC models, but I'm puzzled by it:
If I go to the communications menu and switch off the phone receiver, the GPS also seems to stop receiving. Enabling Bluetooth seems to bring it back to life, but enabling WiFi doesn't.
I don't always want to have the phone receiver working when I'm travelling using GPS, so it's rather annoying.
Does anyone know the reason why this happens ?
Are there perhaps some common parts of the Qualcomm chip that are shared by the GPS and phone and/or bluetooth ?

Hi guys n girls,
I'm kinda new here and I have a question I've been dying to ask since I got hold of my HTC hermes. I'm currently using Vodafone's version of HTC Hermes, which is the V1605.
Is it possible for HTC Hermes to use GPS navigation without an external GPS receiver such as a bluetooth device? I learnt that HTC Hermes has no GPS chipset so it will definitely need a receiver, but I'm just curious and I wanna confirm. Thanks
Afaik, it got a GPS Chipset but no antenna

thanks for the clarification.
so, it will need a receiver to act like an antenna?
I'm not sure if you search for GPS or looked at the Wiki on the Hermes but its been covered a few times. The only thing you can really do is get a bluetooth GPS receiver or something along those lines.
Read and Search

I use a Holox bt-321 GPS receiver, works fine!
I was going to link to an ebay auction for one but its possibly the ONLY day when there isnt an auction for one!
I bought here from a user a Holux M-1000. Works fine and without any problems.
Give Navizon a go - > http://www.navizon.com/
its a virtual GPS for phones without GPS, Goes on Phone Cell info and Wifi AP Signals, you have to use wifi but it does pinpoint where you are better with wifi on
also out puts the data via a com port so you can use Satnav an other GPS enabled apps with it
Garmin GPS 10
I'm using an older Garmin GPS 10 that I purchased a few years ago, but it stills works great. It is rechargeable and the battery seems to last forever. I also using the Beta version of Garmin's Mobile XT, which gives my 8525 the same look and feel as "modern" GPS-only devices.
Some of the cool "toys" the software uses is:
2-D or 3-D map view
PeerPoints (sending GPS coords via SMS or MMS)
Local gas prices near you
Real time traffice
Weather
POIs ( you can have up to 4,000 waypoints/favorites/locations)
Voice prompts
Hotels.com info
etc.
Of course, some of the features depends on whether or not you have a data plan or WiFi access. I also like it because it is very small, works via bluetooth and is very accurate. I also use BeelineGPS because I also like to Geocache.

P.S. The current version of my GPS is the Garmin Mobile 10 for PDAs/Laptops
im using a "54 channel Holox" (Fake Holux) but i havent seen a quicker connecting device
Hi,
This thread might be ELF specific related as on other devices the problem with the same GPS receivers is not happening!
I own 2 Elf's one running plain original rom and one running Touch Surface and 2 different Bluetooth GPS receivers one is an Adapt AD850 and an el cheapo one GPS20C orso both of them are using passkey's of 4 digits.
I have now for an huge time problems with TomTom connecting to the GPS. It connects sometimes but looses the connection direct after an few seconds. Then it takes ages to get an reconnection or sometimes it won't connect even. But when it has an connection it seems to work fine and i can navigate for hours.
If i switch off orso and want to reconnect the same problems but sometimes it connect directly and works perfect.
When i have connection problems some things might seem to help to get an connection: Switch GPS off and on, Setup in TomTom the GPS again, Disable and enable Bluetooth.
I have tried to pair different times with the GPS but this makes no difference and it also make no difference which GPS i use or wich Elf i use.
The most strange in the whole story is that i previously had an GPS that needed no pass key for pairing and never had these problems. Also the TomTom version makes no differens. Offcourse i tried on one elf various roms and radio versions but this makes no difference.
Oh well maybe santa is bringing me an real navi system
Thanx,
Jerome
This may be obvious but its worth me saying - have you got the phone enabled?
Reason is I often turn my phone off and use my Touch as a mp3 player / video etc and when i fire up the tomtom and GPS reciever if the phone is in an off state then totmtom never gets a proper connection. I spent ages trying to figure out why it only worked sometimes and the realised it was due to the phone connection. Why tomtom needs the phone on I dont know but it wont work otherwise.
Sorry double posted

Well no solution .. still drops GPS connections and take ages before getting an connection.
Have overclocked the Elf to 273 Mhz now and seems an bit more stable so might be an TomTom Issue with high cpu usage ?
Hi,
I am using GPS mod Driver in the newest version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571266
The great thing is that gps mod driver - beside it´s other functions - is scanning now different ports to find gps receiver sources, which is quite usefull if using the HD2 in a rental car and lay down the HD2 between the chairs (bad internal gps reception) and put a BT gps receiver under the wind chill window for good reception (a BT gps receiver needs quite less space than a HD2 fixture for the wind chill).
While on power gps mod driver is scanning apporx all 30s the specified ports to find a better gps source (on battery not to save battery obviously).
Now the problem:
If I am on "power" but have no BT gps receiver attached (using the internal gps source) I am getting now approx all 30s a full screen pop up which is asking me to switch ON BT, or if BT is ON (because I want to use my BT head set for example) to select my paired gps receiver.
This is not realy convinient because as said it is a full screen pop up and is hiding therefore the entire navigation software AND is requesting a confirmation press to go away (and this every 30s ...).
This behaviour is not only related to the HD2 and it looks like it depends on the BT stack which is used on the smartphone. Ohter HTC smart phones with a different BT stack are not showing this full screen pop up meassage.
Question:
Does anybody have an idea to influence this behaviour on the HD2 by any reg setting or configuration?
To put BT notice in a "silent" mode?
Best regards,
dingolino
I have been having what would seem like a hardware issue with my S4, where the bluetooth connection is spotty and drops in and out frequently. It happens on all different bluetooth connections, and i want to say it's hardware bc if i leave the phone alone it is usually better and doesn't toggle in and out, when i pick the phone up and move it around it cuts out much more.
is there any way to fix this? i have no idea how to swap out the bluetooth hardware or if that's basically built into the MB.
thanks for looking
I got a new MOTO 4G Play to replace and older Samsung. I like it except for one thing. I have to unpair ("forget") the device and then cycle the radio on and off a couple times and then turn on the adapter and then pair and connect to get it to work. I have to do this each time.
I've contacted that adapter mfg and moto they both point to each other. They even said a new pone won't likely fix the problem. No one is actually interested in solving the problem. I'm sure there are plenty of others in the same situation. The adapter mfg says it is a problem with moto phones.
Are there any bluetooth radio hacks or other versions. I don't know what radio I have or how to find out. I'd rather not go with a complete custom ROM at this time.
Any suggestions on what the problem could be, how to fix, how to address compatibility problems when both mfgs say the other is causing the problem. Is there somewhere to officially complain about BT compatibility issues? Is BT an industry standard or a specific company that licenses it?
It seems like I should have some recourse here, but, so far I've spent a lot of time going in circles dealing with level 1 support people who only fill in forms or read off lists as well as time and money spent on phone calls, being put on hold, etc.
While Bluetooth is an industry standard, there are different versions (3.0, 4.0, 4.1, etc.) which transmit data in different ways. There are other standards as well, such as A2DP. But for all of this to work, both devices need to be able to detect each others' Bluetooth MAC and store it long term. If one device forgets it has that knowledge, then it won't recognize the others' BTMAC at all.
Changing to a ROM isn't going to fix this (Lineage is notorious for killing BT when you change from cellular to WiFi, and to this day it still isn't completely fixed). What I recommend is going into Apps, looking for Bluetooth Share, and clearing its data. Then try re-pairing to the device.
I tried clearing the data as you suggested as well as during a hard reset and that doesn't work.
I do have a sequence of steps that works pretty consistently, but, I have to do it interactively. I'm wondering if I could just write a script to do these steps. Some of them like the pairing and the connection take a little time and may need some timing steps. Ideally it could access a signal when the connection is made or not made etc. I could just set it in motion and go about putting on the seatbelt, starting the car, etc while it is working.
I have no idea what commands the different things I interact with use. It involves forgetting the connection, cycling airplane mode on and off, pairing and then after they are paired connecting. Any ideas?
Some people on the Moto forums suggest disabling Bluetooth Scanning. It seems to work for some people; others report no change in their connection after turning it off.
I'm running LineageOS, and as the previous reply stated, my Bluetooth restarts when changing between WiFi and cell data. I tried Bluetooth scanning on and off, and neither seemed to fix the Bluetooth restarts.
