Hi All
I have searched on the forums for a bit of advice on this issue, and it seems to be a WM6 problem (some comments on other xda-dev device-specific forums but none i could find on the shift).
Every so often, my shift decides not to recognise my password, and therefore i need a hard reset. Not good after i spent all the time liberating it! This has happened twice now.
On xda-dev forums for other devices, they suggest you hold the 'on-off button' for 10 seconds after setting the p/w the first time, which will work around the problem. Unfortunately, the shift doesn't have such a button for the snapvue bit.
This seems to be a WM6 issue, which is made worse for the shift given the above issues (losing liberation, no on-off workaround).
Does anyone encounter this on their shift as well? I am surprised not to see it on the forum, so i hope i didn't miss anything. By the way, the solution 'don't use password' is no good for me, since to sync with my work server i must use one - and it comes on every 15 mins maximum without use!
I am intrigued also because i have a new HTC touch dual, and this p/w problem does not happen at all?
Odd. Any thoughts? Thanks all,
Nick
Anyone there
Hi all
sorry to bump this up, but I am just wondering whether the lack of replies since I posted this the night before I went on a job for a week is because of:
a) i am the only one who experiences this and thus noone knows how to fix it
b) anyone who does know has already posted to another thread i cant find?
Sorry to bug, just wondering.
Cheers, Nick
Never had this issue in any wm6 device.

Same here..
Just an odd thought, are you using a long password? WinMo really only likes a 4 digit numerical PIN for password as it is a system originally designed for PDA's and enhanced for mobile phone use. Hence unlock via keypad.
Thanks
Hi guys
thanks for that, no i am using a 4 digit password.
Interesting, it seems to have stopped since i wrote the first post, have taken it away on 2 major work trips and it's all good. However, i have not liberated it again yet. I think i am going to re-liberate it and see whether the issue happens again.
There are definitely postings on some of the other forums here on xda-dev, so it is a known issue, but maybe i am just unlucky....

Recently it has been turning itself off for no reason. I also notice if I open and close the phone a few times it turns off as well seemingly at random.
Anyone else have this issue? I hate looking in my pocket to find my X1 off. it has a full battery so what gives?
yer i had this problem a few times.. update to the new R2A Rom.. should fix it
thanks i'm a bit scared to upgrade though. I'm not sure which version to use for US X1a.
OK I have to ask this again. What's the deal with my X1 turning off if I slide the top open and close too quickly? Anyone else have this issue? The phone just straight up resets if I open and close the slider twice in a row while it is in standbye!
hmm, glad....
to see that i am not alone..
I have the exact same problem on my x1.... i am running the Xion 1.1 swedish rom on it so i will try to update to a newer version to see if there is a difference.
maybe it's just a screen energy saving? click power button will call the screen back
hmm
Nah that is not the problem, the damn device reboots itself completely when closing the lid... however mine works if i do it "with care"...
Updated the software in the phone last night and no difference...
Bah!
Solved... i changed the battery and after that everything works swell... bought a new cheap one.. So something was fishy with the original one... China Copys FTW!
So basically, my hd2 is not running smooth at all. Every time i do a rom update and then restore my contacts/messages/settings it keeps getting frozen and unresponsive. So I have to restart the device, but I don't know why it should be restarted anyway, isn't is kind of super fast?!?! So, now, when I recently updated my ROM, the device is so damn slow, that even after typing my PIN it takes a minute to launch htc sense and everything. When I'm moving through the tabs it's so damn laggy i can't stand it. . Is anyone else experiencing this????
To be honest, and I'm no expert, it sounds like you have some serious phone problems, probably out of your control. Not to sound like a pessimist but given how everyone else seems to be ok with the HD2, could be either a major rom/radio problem or hardware failure??
I've updated my hd2 using the official rom from HTC and, apart from the occasional lag i get from WinMo, my device runs sweet as a a proverbial nut. Especially as I have run the tweaks suggested by the forums here.
Given that you have said that you've upgraded the ROM and it's made no difference, the only thing i could suggest is possibly send it back under warranty?
Obviously, I'd wait and see if someone with more know-how has a better explanation, i'm merely giving you my POV.
Hope you get this sorted ASAP. A properly working HD2 is a marvellous thing.
All the best
To the OP,
There could be so many causes for your problems. I would start as follows:
- Take your SD card out and see if the phone boots and is not laggy with the card out
- If this does not work take a look at the SMS threads on here and see if the solutions there help you
- If no joy then read the Hints @ Tips thread on here, if you have not already done so, and pickup on the cache move tips, using the task manager to close open files, etc
- I that fails look for the thread "HD2 Died - or did it" and implement the solutions in there
- If that does not help and you have been flashing a fair few roms then hop over to the MTTY thread in rom development and see if that helps.
Plenty to be getting on with.
Hope you get it sorted.

My power up to sense loaded time = 55 secs.
Any different?
thanks for this quick reply. I am using Energy Leo ROM, but I don't think this could be the problem, or is it? Because I have performed a hard-reset now and it's running quite smooth again.. But the question is for how long.
Two questions I have now:
-does it happen to anyone, when you try to wake up the phone, screen doesn't wake up, only the keys in the bottom start to glow? It happened to me from time to time
-does anyone else experience missed key taps? When I tap something from time to time it just doesn't get recognized so I have to "retap" it...

I have experienced question 1 and 2.. however not alot or not frequent.. I tend to think that this is just a computer and computers do crash depending on whats going on.. The missed screen taps only happens once or twice when its playing up. I do have a screen protector on though so whether the dust, oil or screen protector is causing that is a different story, but isnt a big problem for me to remove the screen protector to find out.
so, the latest problem.. my hd2 had been running for ~16 hours without any problem now, but in last 10 minutes i had to restart it twice, because the screen stopped responding after i wanted to type new sms in a conversation (first time) and after i had a pop-up message about new sms (second time). As said before, I'm using energy rom, latest issue (17.2.). Could the problem be, in fact connected with this rom or specifically with sms software?
using cooked roms you can generally expect a few lockups and restarts.
Also, the screen not powering up, just the hard keys backlight is an issue across the board, from custom roms to official roms. Some roms seem to do it, some don't, but one that doesn't do it to me might well do it to you.

It has been mentioned before that if you have a large number of texts stored, it will take a while for it to allow you to reply to a text. (It has to go through the database, check for the texts sent by the user, then arrange them alongside the ones sent to them by you, then put them in chronological order, then display them, this takes time)
but i would presume the device should be working anyway (but slower, of course) and not flashing the display and being "frozen" ?
The frozen issue with texts is all in the SMS thread I pointed you to earlier. Solutions to the phone freezing are in the HD2 Died thread, again as I pointed out earlier.
How many of these potential solutions have you tried? Tryy these things first then come back if they don't work rather than make assumptions about your ROM.

after 3 months i still have the issue with missed strokes.. even after the latest energy rom update :\
anyone?
I have a problem with Sleep of Death in WinMo. When i put my Mini in sleep mode and I'm trying to wake it up - nothing happens. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
Hello, did you manage to resolve your problem? I just started having the same problem. Hard reset did not help. I am going to reload latest official ROM.
I wait for your expressions after reloading ROM. I've hard reseted WinMo and even in Android - nothing happens. I'll reflash ROM after work.
I reaolved the problem on my mini by disabling htc lockscreen.
if u search how to disable it u will find it
PeGie: I re-loaded the latest shipped ROM (1.36). It works (so far). I'll add additional software one by one to see if there is some relation.
bruce2728: Thank you for the tip. However, I cannot disable it. I am using the device also for company e-mail synchronizing by using ActiveSync. The company policies force to use the screen lock and I am not able to change it.

if you disable htc lockscreen in the registry it defaults to the windows 6.5 one, so you will still have a screen lock
edit: forget lockscreen it happened again after a few hours

Seems to work but only a temporary solution.
I think the driver that controls the power button goes to sleep when phone in standby
I'll investigate tonight and report back if I have any succes
Guys, thanks for help. I tried today to turn off lockscreen, but it doesen't worked. I'll try to figure it out tommorow. I'm waiting for results of investigation of Sleep of death.
I uninstalled CleanRAM first and hard reset and I have no more problem SOD
(last 10 hours is normal) I do not know if I will again have the same problem, now works ok
HTC HD mini German ROM: 1.41.166.1
I mentioned that hard reset did not help. That may not actually be true. When I did hard reset then I immediatelly installed all my applicatiosn and changed all the settings I used to change. Some of the software or config change may cause the problem. However, it is strange that it began just few days ago. I was using the device almost 1 year without this problem.
Anyway, as I mentioned before, I re-loaded the 1.36 ROM today. Then I left all settings at defaults. I did not install any application. It is working correctly so far. I'll add app/config change one by one to track the root cause. It will take some time of monitoring but I need to identify the cause. My suspect #1 is my company security policy. That would explain the problem appearance beginning.
I already had some problem caused probably by my company security settings.

and to me it's strange because the last few days, so to say I did not use mobile phones, nothing new installed or changed settings.
I have this problem too. Since yesterday - started from failing to wake me in the morning. It's kind of weird, all of the sudden phone stopped to work correctly.
At last (judging by more people having problem as well) is not the hardware problem.
Anyone has any idea: this problem was known before, or it started in last few days?
I'm also having this problem. I've changed nothing on my phone since months and since yesterday it has this problem. I'm thinking of sending it for repair and wait what they will say about it.
I was using my HD mini for 10 months without problems. But today I was faced the same problem as you mentioned. I removed my battery and left my HD mini without battery for ~30 minutes. Then I put battery back and turn on the phone and everything works now ...
It sound really weird that this problem is popping out suddenly to a number of users, while before there was no symptom.. it would seem as crazy as a time-driven issue or something..
Before reading here, my 1st step would have been removal of lockscreen, then 2nd one going back to clean original installation, but looks like those moves are not of help..
Fact is that the only new software i installed is bsb tweaks whose changes may affect registry and corrupt system configurations.. do you all guys have bsb installed?
Let's try to figure this out together, missed wakeup and calls are really annoying, as well as removing the battery to make a phone call...
No, I don't have bsb.
And people are using bsb without much problem for the last year.
Some kind of millennium bug? Someone programmed end of the world in our phones?

I do not have BSB installed (actually, I have idea what it is). My Mini is stable 16 hours after ROM reload. It survived the night! I believe hard-reset would help too. I'll re-test hard-reset if I see the problem again after some app/cfg install/change.
My next step is to install HTC updates:
PHO03869.exe
PHO03880.exe
_HTC HD Mini_PHO03611.exe
Then I will install/configure (not ordered):
home WiFi - hidden SSID, WPA-PSK, AES, ASCII key
CorePlayer v1.3.6 Build 7427 - directdraw output
TomTom 7.916.9192 QVGA with one map
ActiveSync - for company e-mail
IMAP e-mail - for Gmail account
turned off HTC Sense
turnd off weather (Application Data\HTC\databases -> deleted the file forecast_cache.db, restarted Sense (uncheck/check in today settings)) - this is sometimes required to stop the weather to be updated from web
system settings change - bluetooth, regional settings, etc.
Recently I discovered that every time I use Bluetooth headphones, the left-upper corner of the BB Priv does not "detect" the touch.
For my relief, I found our vía Dev options that physically the screen does detect my touch but somehow the OS stop registering until a few hours after I turn Bluetooth off or restart the device.
I know this is a software flaw in need to be fixed by BlackBerry but I would like to know if this is happening to anybody else or should I begin deploying an army of emails to BlackBerry.
There are dedicated threads about this issue on CrackBerry
can you tell me which thread? i have this problem also
Yes please, as an update, I avoided much possible using bluetooth and yes, it is for connecting a headset, in my case a LG Tone Pro.

Here's one, some people are saying it has to do with FB Messenger
Wonder if it has something to do with Chat Heads, I think they by default spawn in the top right corner. I've never noticed the issue myself, and I do use bluetooth occasionally, but I always disable Chat Heads immediately whenever I install/reinstall messenger.
I've noticed it seems to need a few taps on the top edges of the screen - I wonder if it's just a design and manufacturing compromise those? It's a curved screen and as a result the touch points will be handled slightly differently to that of a flat screen.
Maybe something that can be solved with software..

In my case, I know that Android did register the touch by using the dev options tools, this has to do on how BlackBerry programmed their Android version, but I already installed February Bulletin and hope that BlackBerry applied their own hotfix.
Will tell you soon.
AT&T confirmed that the problem with Priv and other Android device is related with older version of FB Messenger.
I found it odd because in my case was triggered using a Bluetooth device but o well, at least that was resolved.
You need to delete FB Messenger app data first and unistall it via App settings and you need to re install again.
Apparently Facebook already resolved the faulty code that messed with the screen input.
