Hi!
As we know, the optical joystick on new samsung models including OMNIA has 2 modes of operating:
1. Like standard D-pad
2. Like touch pad
It would be great to switch between them on the fly.
Best of all - to attach to a button action.
XDA Gurus, is it real?
Why don't you use mortscript for this. You can use the running task to switch between the mouse or the d-pad.
Here is the reg key:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Samsung\Mouse:ActionMethod
ActionMethod = 3001 on mouse use and 4001 when you use d-pad.
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
That's exactly what was required, works fine.
For my Samsung i740 values are:
"0" - for D-Pad
"1" - for mouse.
I am very grateful to you!
would that be the same for the omnia
There's this simply program.

Here is better?
yay
(too short)
chgFingerMouse.zip fails to switch modes on my i740. Mouse cursor appears and that's all.
So here is mort script, that not only swithes between a modes, but switches speed of mouse/d-pad too.
I think it's better, then fixed speed.
P.S. value must be 20 - for hi speed, and 2 - for low speed.

I've been searching for a while for a re-mapper/utility that will remap the d-pad to move around the numbers while on the Phone screen. Currently the D-pad does nothing while you're in the Phone dialing or call screen. It would make the Wiz into a great one-handed device if I can get the D-pad to move around the on-screen numbers pad. The center button can emulate pressing of the on-screen numbers. This way I can use one hand to enter the phone number and not having to use use my hands or the stylus while on-the-go.
I know I can slide out the keyboard but are you able to slide the KB out with 1 hand and use the number keys? I tried and it's VERY awkward and you'll have to remember to press the dot twice to enable the numbers. I'd rather not do that in a time of emergency.
Any one has tried to make this happen? Is there an app out there which will do this? This plus smartkeys/smallmenu will make the Wiz the ultimate one-handed device.
Anyone? am I the only one with a Wiz wishing for this function? I guess people like touching the screen with their hands more than I thought...
I would really be interested in something that could achieve this. I have my K-JAM in a PDAir case and being able to simply dial numbers with the keypad would be great. Rather than scroll through the contact list or opening the cover to access the keypad.
On Himalaya the D-pad had function in the dialer to get to call history and speed dial. That would help too.

hi all,
A cool Japanese Freeware called FakeCursor does this. It doesn't tab between fields, but emulates a Dpad controlled 'mouse'.
There is a program called AEKmap that allows you to remap the keyboard.
I have attached several layouts I made for the Phone and Calculator for use with AEKmap. (2 of the layouts work in AEKmap free mode, the other 6 require $20 activation to avoid NAG screen.)
Joeman
btw on my qtek9100 the keyboard is automatically in number mode while in the phone application. I don't need to push the blue dot twice.
I'd just as soon se a remapper that brought back the WM 2003SE phone functionality (right - Call Histtoey, left - Speed dial, etc.)
It's a shame M$ took that out in WM5
*One WM5 developer*
"I got an idea. Let's make our new phones LESS functional. That'll give us a leg up on the competition."
*Everyone else there*
"BRILLIANT!!!"

Did anyone create an aek file for mapping the alfa keys of the hardware k/b to the phonepad values.
ie: pressing a, b or c generates the code that is recognized by smartdialer (and interpreted as a, b or c respectively)
This way we can use the h/w keyboard letter-keys in the smartdialer!
This is especially handy when youre using the Wizard in your car in the landscape brodit holder (on-screen 'keys' are simply too small to be used safely)
it would be very cool.
wonder if Water can extend SmartyKeys for that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060

that man is a genius!
When X7500 link to keyboard, it will rotate to Landscape automatically.
Is there any solution let X7500 automatic rotate to Portrait when "Leave" keyboard??
Or any software can do this(auto rotate)?
If modify registry could assign the screen?
This would be great. My universal (XDA Exec) did this when the keyboard was span around - so cool.

Hello everybody,
Today, I have HTC Wizard with a lot of hardware keys . I like the blackstone but I'm affraid to see that there is no hardware keys (no Dpad). I use applications that work only with Dpad (no touchscreen functions).
Have you solution to have software direction pad when applications run (Like the soft direction keys on the virtual keyboard)?
The standard SIPs provided by HTC all have "virtual" arrow keys. Most apps will work fine with these, provided that they play nice when the SIP keyboard is enabled.
Also, I'm sure D-pad specific SIPs will appear soon, and I'm hoping for a virtual D-pad solution + WVGAFIX3 combo. The 160 rows of leftover pixels when in 480x640 mode would be just great for 4-directional buttons and and action/Enter key.
However, I've had the HD for a couple of weeks, and I can honestly say that I don't miss the D-pad at all. I migrated from a smartphone (HTC Vox), so I was definitely wary. I've found that most apps/games (and the WM 6.1 GUI) work fine with touch (as they well should, on WM Professional). For the really small buttons, a finger nail or stylus is needed, but I find these occasions to be rare.
The worst example I've come acroos is Opera Mini (essential on my Vox), which is practically unusable on the HD without the stylus. Then again, I don't miss Mini when I have Opera Mobile.
Would you care to elaborate a bit on the apps you need to use?

Yes I agree and I hope too
I hesitate between the touch HD abd the Xperia X1
Hi,
does anyone know an alternative onscreen keyboard application (apart from TF3D).
To me it seems the X1 onscreen keyboard is pretty much unusable without the stylus.
Thx in advance,
Sinergy
I use the SPB keyboard, i prefer it to the blackstone keyboard purely on the basis that the blackstone doesn't mess up with the predictive text of my X1.
the SPB has feedback options with vibration/sound, supports many languages and the skin fits nicely with the menus etc
my 2 cents: (copied from the my post at the inxperia forums)
THE FREE:
-------------------------
HTC Keyboard (from Touch HD)
the free HTC keyboard package also installs a normal phone keyboard.
So it installs:
- QWERTY Compact (two letters per button, for normal use)
- QWERTY Full (like hardware keyboard, for landscape use)
- Phone Keypad (phone keyboard, landscape and normal)
The Compact and Full version switch as you go from landscape to vertical, but you can't use the compact in ladscape and vice versa. So Compact -> rotate screen -> automatically oges to Full QWERTY.
Quite nice actually.
Problems: A bit sluggish within Opera and breaks the volume-zoom keys in Opera.
TouchPal (below) is better:
THE BEST:
-------------------------
TouchPal:
Installs itself as default on startup (great). Everythings fluid, no bugs so far. Goes away nicely in Opera and after a landscape switch.
I noticed a small, but *very* important detail about TouchPal:
The leftmost (QAZ) and rightmost (PLM) buttons are a bit further away from the edge (so they are easier to hit with the recessed screen!). I tested both Touch HD Blackstone and TouchPal QWERTY. TouchPal has the better buttons, as they are easier to hit.
The TouchPal also has tabs with:
- 3 keyboards (phone, qwerty, qw-er-ty)
- 1 symbol board (which slides to the left and right, customizable)
- 1 number board
- 10 configurable text snippets, multilanguage fT9 input and
- a navigation/cut/copy/paste board, which is really handy.
So my vote is clearly for TouchPal (also looks better). No problems on X1 at all!!!
Problems: No landscape resizing, just black bars on the left and right (I think its okay). The 2on1 buttons (QW-ER-TY) are strange (you can't double tap, it works differently)
tldr;
Get the TouchPal software. It'll change your life!
THE TWEAKERS Keyboard:
-------------------------
Fingertouch PRO
Completely skinnable and you can make custom layouts (dvorak for example)... Very good, I bought it but now use TouchPal.

thx
I'll give a try to both of them.
Hi Guys,
I have installed touchpal V3.5. I noticed a little bug. Before installation, i do not have memory leakage problem, for example, the program memory does not increase much. Typically, the memory usage will be 65Mb.
After installation, the program memory keep on increasing and increasing even after closing all the programs in the quick menu. The memory usage is 75Mb now and still increasing. The last time i did a soft-reset was 2 days ago.
I did not face this kind of problem (memory leak) before installing touchpal. Anyone knows how to solve this problem?
TIA
I tried few alternative keyboards, but still didn't find the right one:
- HTC is very good, but has bugs
- SPB is full querty but small buttons, A Q P are on the edges
- Didn't like touchpal
what i want is an HTC like phone pad/T9 style, any free keyboard like this?

Yes, I like those keyboard which is like phone pad style with T9 too so I have to stick to the HTC phone pad for now.
If anyone knows of such phone pad style which can replace the HTC keyboard, do share with us, thanks.

Try disabling the animations: Options-> (slide the screen) -> "Disable advanced animations". Maybe it helps.
Honestly I don't know. I had to turn my X1 off every 2 days because of exams I had. But the TouchPal keyboard has so many benefits that I won't mind soft-resetting every once in a while. I mean it's the only QWERTY where I can actually touch the Q/P/A buttons with the recessed screen.

Take a look at FingerTouch, they also have a lite (free) version on their site. The video (I time-marked it) with the Phone keyboard is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqhBMNr7iS8#t=47s
check out http://shapewriter.com - it's quite good if ur using two hands to type, works fairly well with one hand. Here's a vid of it in action on the Android => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJPS2piSSRE
TenGO Thumb pretty good too for one-hand operation, but falls flat on it's face when trying to type in one or two numbers vs HTC Phone Pad.
Cliquick (http://www.cliquick.com) has nice large buttons, layout like HTC Phone Pad but larger, excellent querty landscape keyboard and "optimised" key layout, BUT lacks T9.... which is a pitty because this would've been the best with T9 for one-hand operation.
I tried TouchPal but found learning curve too steep. Plus it's too difficult to use with one hand, which I need to do so when standing in a bus.
EDIT: Have been thinking about FingerTouch, BUT needs two hands to type fast, so that's a bummer. I'd prefer ShapeWriter over it.
I don't know if it's just me, but the Touch HD isn't working fine. Everytime i start typing (fast), the first letter always come at the end of the word. Let say I want to type "Clumsy", it would come out as "lumsyC". Quite annoying IMO.
Fingertouch has 5 keyboard layouts provided. At least 2 of them allow one-handed typing and pretty fast. It has its own T9 and also word completion.
I'm using Fingertouch Pro and allow further customisation, but unlike Fingertouch (which is free), the Pro version is paid software.

[Update May 10 2010:]
Huge thanks to Soul72 for adding other language support to MaxKey:
- English
- Italian
- German
- Norwegian
- Hungarian
Just follow the instructions below, but download the file below ending in "multilanguage." The other version just has English.
[Original Post:]
Ready for a screen keyboard that's easier to type on? This is a reconfiguration of the fabulous FingerKeyboard 2.1, so all respect to Exidler and Rozenthal. I have maximized the size of the keys as much as possible, focusing on keeping the edge keys further in given that protective cases may make these inaccessible. I also made the symbol keys much more standard (no longer 10 types of smiley faces!!! ) Moving the p and q up is a bit unorthodox, but I think you'll be pleased with the result.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE INSTALLING:
- You must have FingerKeyboard 2.1 installed for this to work
- FingerKeyboard must be installed on your device, NOT on the card
- The file that does not say "multilanguage" is is only for ENGLISH
- You can close MaxKey by pressing and holding the spacebar
- The attached cab also installs the X1 SoftTouch tweak to maximize your screens responsiveness, for best keyboard performance
- At the moment, uninstalling this requires a few steps that are relatively simple:
- - - Uninstall "Paco SoftTouch MaxKey 0.1" under Settings/System/Remove Programs
- - - Rename /Program Files/FingerKeyb/skin-02-wvga-port-01-eng-bak.txt to skin-02-wvga-port-01-eng.txt
- - - Move skin-02-wvga-port-01-eng.txt to /Program Files/FingerKeyb/Skins
- - - Next time you RE-select FingerKeyb in the SIP selector, the regular key configuration should be back
Install directions:
1. Install FingerKeyboard 2.1 to your device (not card!)
2. Download and install the SoftTouch MaxKey cab that is attached at the bottom of this post
3. Open the SIP selector which is the tiny triangle to the right of the keyboard selector in the middle of the bottom menu bar
4. Select FingerKeyb, and the MaxKey keyboard configuration should appear
5. To unistall, see above
If there is interest in this, I can try to keep developing for other languages and to make improvements based on suggestions. Donations would be highly appreciated.

Sorry, what do you mean by "compact qwerty?" Do you mean fewer rows of keys, like 4 rows instead of 5?
finger keyboard does not support compact qwerty(yet at least)
thats great ring-bearer....i ll give it a shot
btw from where u got that cool battery icon on top?
Compact qwerty would be nice, but I think it would probably conflict with the FingerKeyboard2 keymap, since a compact qwerty only has 12 buttons.
If you don't know how a compact qwerty looks like, take a look at an old mobile phone without touch screen or hardware keyboard and notice that the function of every key carries a number of letters, that you get by pressing various numbers of times. For example; I want to write "C". I press the number 2 three times, and the C appears.
I think it would be possible for someone to make a compact qwerty, since there is one in the new Touch Pro 2's and Diamond 2's. Also, if you look at the Xperia default dialer (or any dialer for that matter), there are 3 to 4 letters on every key - there's your ready made compact qwerty. Of course I don't know anything about making this myself, I'm just looking at the posibilities of someone making it.
Regards
/Felix

Ah, looks like I was confused about the names - what I meant before was ''Phone Keypad'' and you can get this with EzInput so nevermind
Anyways, is it possible to get swedish? The only difference is that long press on J gets an Å, long press K gets you an Ä and L gets you Ö. That would be great!

is it possible to remove the page up down etc.
on "EN" coz' you know in xperia they have some sort of a mouse to scroll
so that there will be more space for a key! very usefull if there will more space to press a single key.
and some character in the third row and so fort have minimal spacing
maybe it can help if you can try to edit this?
but you know this proram works well for me is just maybe you can do
enhance it for x1 users? thank you in advance!!! nice work

Yeah, I can try to do something like that. I also want to work on the placement of the 'enter' and 'backspace' keys because they aren't optimal right now. But the main problem for me was the size of the qwerty keys, and those are now as big as they can get without inventing a whole new layout. But I agree that those directional buttons are not highly needed. I also still want to develop for the other languages people requested, but it may be a couple of months because real life is crazy busy for a while.
I could also try to make a SIP much more tailored to the X1 from the ground up. My C++ skills aren't great though but if anyone wants to PM me the 'dvoraksip.sln' code that comes with the Windows Mobile Version 5.0 SDK, I could probably modify that. I just don't have the SDK or the example code that comes with it. Anyone?
Thnx for the keyboard.. Its just made my XPERIA perfect!
But I have a question.. When I open the keyboard on my phone, the bottom bar dissappears.. Is this something you programmed it to do, to maybe give larger screen above the keyboard, or it something wrong with my config?
This layout isn't very nice. I prefer a normal qwerty layout.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. To answer your question:
No, I didn't program that feature in. That is a changeable feature of FingerKeyboard. Just go to programs/fingerkeyboard/options then change Portrait from "Hide bar" to "Show bar."
You'll be all set!
