SlashGear have posted the first of two parts of their HTC Touch HD review.
No streaming at all?! I have no experience of Windows Mobile so I do apologies for the ignorance.
But no flash streaming? Very disappointing.
What about streaming from an rtsp:// or an mms:// ? From what Slashgear said, that's out of the question too.
Am I right or just interpreting their sentence incorreclty.
you interpreted wrong.
they were talking about no streaming within the browser, think desktop youtube site. you could use third party player that can pickup the links when you click on a rtsp: link or whatever and open up the player separate from the broswer and do the streaming that way.
There's actually a built-in application to play Streaming Media.

That's a bit inconvenient and silly isn't it? I guess it'll have to do.
I assume this lets down other WM devices such as the SonyEricsson X1 ?

Apart from the Youtube video application, there's a separate one I take it? I'd rather watch some factual programming such as CNN or BBC News rather than fake videos of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live and dogs on skateboards !

Opera supports Flash and straming without a problem, it just isn't installed. Go to Adobe or other sites, get Flash Lite and there you got your streaming and youtube videos...

Oh right. Thanks for that - very helpful, and probably the last stumbling block before I buy the Touch HD.

how did u get to view you tube on your 8125? i have orb 2.0 and it keeps asking me for some codecs.
You have to download certain codecs and install them from there website. The codec that i installed to get the youtube videos to play was the ffdshow codec.
what do you guys mean? go to tinytube.net on your phone and you can download any video from 6 different sources, including, google, myspace, and break just to name a few.
its awesome

I second that. Nothing to install, just download away.

You CANNOT view youtube videos with tinytube.net. Plus it seems im always being queued to view a damn video. Orb is faster compared to the quality...only downside is you have to have your computer running. Which I dont find to be a problem personally
but most youtube videos are on google and myspace anyway
It seems that none of the offered solutions properly play streaming video. Anyone found any other way to do so?

I followed these instructions and the work very very well on my WM6 Kaiser.
http://www.allshadow.com/2007/11/28/how-to-watch-online-video/
Kind of off topic, but a little similar... Is anyone having problems downloading streaming media from these sites? I have an AT&T Tilt and whenever I click on a streaming link that is flashed based, Realplayer will come up and tell me this file format is not supported. But, there is no option anywhere to uninstall this thing! I also tried adding all associations /w TCPMP but still no luck. Anyone else running into this?
Sorry if this is old news but I've been looking for something to play flash on my XDA for a while but I couldn't find a mention in any forums, so I tracked this down on the adobe site
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_pocketpc/downloads/player.html
again sorry if it's old news but you never know someone else may have been looking for the same thing
Edit reason - realised people may skip this if they thought I was looking for a copy rather than I'd found one, also attached the file just in case it disappears from the adobe site
won't play
i've downloaded the flash player and installed it..but i still can't watch videos from youtube??? any suggestions on how i might fix this???

You're right! I was looking for this. Many thanks.
Actually for watching youtube videos flashplayer 7 is not enough, because, if I am right, the video streaming feature (which is used by every video site) has been introduced only in flashplayer 9.
Hi,
This tool will help you to enable flash support into your Opera browser: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4255967&postcount=21

How can i download the youtube video after i watch on htc youtube player
thx
Youtube
You can't, videos are owned by youtube.
there is a program that lets you do this. its called GETYTV
search for the video on the phone in youtube and then you can download the video as mp4 or whatever so you can bluetooth it to other people or just show it to other people from your memory.

i think that's not exactly what he meant. i think he wants to download the videos he's watching in the youtube-client. what you are proposing only works if you surf to www.youtube.com via opera.
btw: keepvids.com is a good site, too.

you use the GETYTV client to search for the videos and download them that way, so yes you cannot do it using the youtube application and it uses internet explorer by the looks of it. it works and thats it. nothing flashy
Ok, so you can install Flash for Opera but it sucks - it makes the phone unstable and slow. However it would be great if you could do the same thing you can do on the iPhone - that is whenever there's a YT movie you see the play icon but when you click on it it opens the YT app and it runs the movie in it not in the browser. Is there a way to do the same thing on HD2 with Opera?

That's not what I'm looking for I think I was misunderstood. Sometimes when you read a page there is a YT movie embedded on it. On the iPhone you can click on it and watch it in the YT application. Here all you have is the border of the movie with no info. So you even don't know the URL of the movie and as result you cannot watch it (well you'd have to view the code of the page and search for the URL).
install skyfire, its much better so long as you don't mind not being able to pinch zoom.

I don't like Skyfire's interface. I'll just have to wait for Opera 10 - if it supports pinch zoom cuz now (in Beta 2) it doesn't...

When you go to m.youtube.com you are provided with thumbnail of the video clips. Tap on it and the video automatically plays in the built in HTC youtube application full screen.

What you are talking about only works in IE built in on the HD2. I just did it and it worked fine. Check out this short video I just made with it working in IE on the HD2.

No - I meant embedded video files on websites like here for instance: http://prowokacje.com.pl - as you can see if you open this website in Opera you won't be able to view embedded YT videos. As I can see it should work in IE (video in the post above) but IE sucks . I'd like to see the same feature in Opera or Opera opening YT movies in the YT app.

As I already said in the first post fixoperaflash makes the phone unstable and it freezes the browser. YT movies work muuuuch better in the YT app. Ok, I see there's no resolution of my problem right now so I'll wait for Opera 10 with Flash and pinch zoom.
I am also looking for the answer to this. Some cooked ROM's have this working. I know that the stock t-mobile one will NOT do this weather its the mobile youtube or full version in opera. There must be some reg edit that makes this possible. I know IE on the HD2 will do this properly out of the box but I don't use IE for browsing the web on the HD2.

I disagree. are there any other browsers that can play flash video? Sure, it can't play everything that flash 10 can, but at least I can now watch a video on ESPN or CNN if I want.

exactly...the flash content doesnt just automatically play in the webpage you load, it just pops up in a little player and gives you the option of playing it....

This isn't true - skyfire has been available on windows mobile and symbian for many years now, even with flash lite/flash players around. And its free.
Also, skyfire should eventually be compatible with other proprietary plugins like silverlight etc. later on. ( I don't know exactly how they do it though...)

Also it'll be handy for people who have phones which support skyfire but which won't be upgradeable to Android 2.2.
