Hi there,
i got my X1 today and am still playing around with it...tried some of the Emulators like PocketNester and PocketSNES.
I can run some games in them, but the main issue is that the screen is really really small. It takes up roughly 1/8 of the screen so i guess thats QVGA resolution or something.
Also landscape mode doesnt really work. PocketNester doesnt react to changes of "Display" at all and always remains in portrait mode. SmartSNES does landscape mode, but its in the wrong direction meaning that to have the picture right you have to hold the X1 with the keyboard on top
PocketSNES doesnt load any roms and quits with an error.
The biggest Issue with PocketNester and SmartSNES is the really small screen which makes it unplayable. When i touch the screen to pause a game the screen is suddenly bigger and in the right direction, which would be playable, but when i unpause the game its all wrong and small again.
I still have got to try the GBA and NeoGeo (Finalburn) emulatos, but i dont have high hopes on these too...
Anyone any positive experience ?
All I know is I've been waiting/searching for a good emulator that does landscape and allows you to map keyboard buttons since the first TyTN came out
Here we go ...
Hey !
I attached the best (and working!) emulators I found over the years.
All of them work with VGA, in landscape (for some use WVGA fix2) + you can map the buttons to your keyboard too.
Some of them require to install an run WVGA FIX2 first.
This little Program "cuts" the pixels bigger than VGA from your device.
Dont get scared.. This only happens as long as you run the program.
Those pixels get black and the program emulates a VGA screen.
So most programms (not only emulators) will work fine on our nice WVGA screen.
Cheers !

Best PocketSNES version.

Mm, yeah nice collection you got going there. That SNES emu doesn't work though.
Tried quite a few versions and this one is the only one that seems to work on the X1:

when using WVGA Fix with that, the screen is upside down...atleast with PocketSNES...
anyone tried any of those on the X1 yet ?
The performance with some enabled also is horrid.

This is a collection especially for the X1.
ALL of my posted emulators ARE working on the X1.
For some use WVGA FIX2 first !
I use all of them on my X1.
-> Screen upside down ? Try going to options in the emulator and switch it ;-)
Btw: The QWERTZ Pocket SNES Emulator is faster but the TOUCH Pocket SNES Emulator comes with touchbuttons (on the screen) embedded. Now you know why the different versions in the zip have tose funny names ;-)
Greets !

That is the same version I attached as -QWERTZPocketSnes- in the PocketSnes.zip --> V1.53
Well then we both agree that it's the best!
that version of PocketSNES is acutally working good, but i cant map the keyboard with that one. Would be better as to use on screen buttons imho, but on the other hand i had problems assigning keys in another version of PocketSNES because some keys seem to have the same Hardware Code...really weird, but i cant map all the keys in the arrow-keys area to different actions which would be ideal for gaming :/
With the onscreen version i cant move my character forward/backward using that touch navigation button..can you ?

Hi there.
This question may have been asked before, and I used the search function, but didn't find a satisfying answer.
Do you guys know of any (S)NES/gameboy emulator that works on the TyTN?
PocketNester seems to have problems with the screen being in landscape...
Thnx
I know this is not much helpful either...I'm working on a new version of PocketNester which may be released in several weeks.
Try Morphgear.. it works fine on my TyTN..

Cool! The one thing I was put off by with SNES emulators was that you were forced to use the touchscreen, and the interface for that took up a good 1/3rd of the screen!
Are you showing it full screen in landscape and allowing use of the hardware keyboard to control?!? train journeys would be even better (still good thanks to coreplayer but...) if SNES games were on the agenda also!

Will you please post here when it's finished? I thank you very much in advance.
And Shamanix, thanks for your tip to use Morphgear. I think I did that, and it didn't work. I'll try again. Which version are you using?
Regards,
DM
I am using v2.4.0.1, but there is a newer version out there..

Landscape support: Yes, as well as VGA support.
But the new features in this version will not be just limited to that.
Speak of SNES emulator...we'll see
PocketGBA is surprisingly good, I play without sound though so that may have an impact.
http://www.sunbug.net/products/emul/PocketGBA.html
You can play in landscape and assign the message and internet keys to a and b so it's like holding a proper games console
oh yes and it's free :-D
I use PocketSNES - works fine on most games.
Also use CEGG (GameGear/Master System), PicoDrive (Genesis/Megadrive), GNUboy and PocketGBA and recommend them all (well, some versions...).
Fed up of emulation on Hermes though, what with the multiple-key bug and lack of diagonals. Can't seem to play a game without using the on-screen pad and hardware keys simultaneously. Real pain.
On the other hand, there's PocketSCUMM!
Hi, i saw this game for touch diamond on youtube. Does anyone know where can i find or buy it. Thanks

street fighter on diamond! ZOMG!!!1!!11!!
id rather have shoot-em-up like Raiden on my diamond.
cant get enough of shootin alien ships
hmmm .. whats he pushing to controll??
maybe it's just a video of a street-fighter game.. fake??
well I hope it's real.. that would be awesome!!
he seems to be touching the screen with his right thumb? would that not bring up the controls of the video app? hmmm....i wonder
I wonder if it is using the accelerometer somehow,, but anyways can't wait to try it out. If i can find it somewhere

not if the device is locked.
What you see here looks like the MAME Emulator for PPC.
It splits the screen in 3 parts which are used as the Buttons.
What takes me wonder ist that it also looks like that he is using the jog wheel als joystick.
Does anyone konw how this can be done?
No this is FinalBurn.
In this emulator you can emulate the fire buttons on the touchscreen.
It can be found here:

looks awesome ill have to get my hands on it when i get home
And that's not Street Fighter but Art of Fighting. ^^'

Ok looks good but the dpad is not good enough to play.
Does anyone know if it is possible to use the Jog Wheel?

Please upload right here if u manage to find this game.
Thanks !!!
FinalBurn does indeed emulate CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3 games (including Street Fighter Alpha 3).
However there are several problems:
1. Low FPS during match (other games like XMENVSSTREETFIGHTER are better)
2. Jerky UNPLAYABLE performance with Sound ON.
3. Keyboard can't be mapped
4. Controls mapping issue
The degree to which FPS is impacted is dependant on the game.
This is my experience with the HTC Touch Pro.
I think we need a more optimised FinalBurn version.
Another problem is that the processor has to process 4 times more info for the VGA screen so it will probably work better in QVGA devices.
Unfortunately I've not found a way to adjust in game resolution.
This MAME emulator certainly has potential!
Folks,
I only got my baby yesterday, but is anyone else finding this?
For me, the device will only switch to landscape mode for Opera, Photos & Videos, and Teeter. Not in TouchFlow 3D Home or any of its tabs, Mobile Office apps, TomTom 7, ...anything!
I've tried turning off Touchflow 3D and rebooting with no effect and with the G-Sensor there is no manual setting to force landscape.
This makes the keyboard in TomTom tiny and means that the screen isn't that much more usable for Office apps than my venerable old 2.8" TyTn.
Please could someone tell me if it's just my phone that's afflicted or is it a "feature"?
Thanks!

no thats totally normal. and known since the first infos of the HD came out.
If you really want full landscape switching, get Gyrator2 or Gsen. both can be found on this forum
It doesn't help you, JTHM, but I hardly ever use landscape mode in my Touch (Elf) so perhaps the way the Touch HD works is by design for people like me. The only time landscape mode offers any advantage to me is for photos, videos and web browsing. With the mini USB connector at the bottom, my Touch is always in its cradle in portrait orientation and it sits in the car more easily this way too.
I'm surprised there's no manually-activated landscape option in the software though.
(Sorry that this post doesn't really help you but perhaps it illustrates that for some (maybe most?) users the lack of landscape isn't a problem at all and may therefore be by design.)
Hang on, can I clarify.
I like to use my xda2i in landscape with my bluetooth travel keyboard sometimes. Does this mean that i can't just rotate the screen to landscape and use it in landscape mode with my keyboard??

I think that raziel1 has already answered that question? Use Gyrator2 or Gsen both of which can be found in this forum.
It does seem to be missing a trick by not have some software button built in to switch the screen though.
I had one flaw with the HD: The typing. I wanted (like Iphone) to use the keyboard in landscape so i had more room for my fingers. But the HD doesn't do that standard.
I installed Gyrator 2 and set it to switch to landscape when i use my keyboard. In every application, now when I use my keyboard and tilt the device, the screen rotates.
It made my HD even better.
Which is better? Gsen or Gyrator? I know they have other features but I only want an app to rotate landscape and uses minimal memory as I guess it needs to be running on start up.
ok, gyrator is a PROGRAM. I thought it was another handset or something. oh as long as there is soemthing you can do te get the landscape working that's sweet for me. I'm really close to buying one of these beasts!
I'm surprised that TomTom doesn't rotate automatically.
I've sure I've seen screen shots of it in Landscape mode and wouldn't have thought those web site's had installed any other third-party screen orientation software.
Beards.
You can also purchase Resco keyboard. It has large keys that you can use with your fingers. Well that depends how big your fingers are. Best to download a copy of the program, install it and test it out.
And since the screen is 3.8, it should give you plenty of space on top to see your message?

yeah, after another reboot it's working now. tried it in a couple apps and seems fine so far... funny thing is with the streaming video app, when you go to fullscreen it auto rotates the screen, but as soon as you move the hd to landscape position gyrator rotates it again... will need to check out the docs on how to add exceptions.

Hi,
I've got a question for TouchHD owners, I m use to use my touch (elf) to play game such as Tetris to waste time in the airport/train. I would like to buy a touch HD but given there is not button, it is possible to play this kind of games?
thanks.

No , you can't. On HD can't play games that need buttons for game play ...
I hope that optimized games for a such big and touch screen will be developed
Maybe a software D-Pad, so the games would run at 640x480 with a touch d-pad...
I'd kill for a good screen overlay that blocks input to the game and provides overlay hardware buttons. would be great if you can activate it once you start a game and need no more menus.
the psx emulator uses a similar method, ingame you get a screen overlay so you can do without any buttons. brilliant. that's why my Diamond was very adept at playing games as long as they were PS1 games, and im sure the HD is no exception.

The iphone psx emulator is quite the same as the one that winmo has (and had before iphone did, years before actually) and it has great features.
Something like that should be made as a separate program.
But problem: you need some way of placing a program layer (the invisible button layer) on top of an otherwise functional other full screen program -> not really possible in any stable or practical way... or so it seems.
Anyone?
Or, I am gonna get me this:
http://www.tang-shop.com/bluetooth-game-pad-bgp-100.html
HELL yeah
can anybody confirm this is compatible with the HD?
I'm guessing so.
Is there someone who has tested the games for the Blackstone?
You can get a list of games that work on Blackstone?
Thank you
we should start a separate thread like the apps thread... games are a whole different kind of app so it would make sense to make such a thread, or merge with the apps thread after all?? mods??
It would be hard to play with soft keypads..
Since HD doesn't support multi touch, if the game needs you to press 2+ keys at the same time it just won't work.
This Warcraft 2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422606 - works with the WVGA fix, all we need now is for someone to figure out how to edit the pocketpc.lua so that one of the volume keys works as right click.

Damn. Would have been a nice option. I also found some threads about making regular controllers work, but can't find any post of somebody getting it to work... Are there any other options than the clip-on controller?
Why we don't use the Gsensonsor for navigation? Gcontroller is a good app that do the trick. If there is something more accurate.

its just a video wich he is playing, no game i think
i would love to be able to play sonic like that on my X1.....

but it would not show it in wvga like you see on the video
I thought the same thing, you should try morphgear...it works well the all the snes roms i have tried so far (barr sf alpha 2).
you can set the display to work in landscape (east) which then manes you can map the buttons (keyboard) and use it that way! Its pretty freakin sweet, I was kinda gutted the games were so $hit for the xperia...this makes it things a lot better!
Now i just need to find the flash player for the ppc (cant remember the name now, it was mention in another post)...which allows us to play flash games! I loved "squares" on the pc, simple game...which would be brilliant with the xperias touch screen!
