I've searched the net for the best mp3 player for pocket pc i could find.
While trying a bunch of players I've found out that the two most advanced players out there where PocketMusic and PocketPlayer.
Now both of the players are highly advanced (please forum back if you think there is a better mp3 player out there - and btw have tried s2p (slide to play) by A_C and thats a good player but i think that these are better - s2p is a good free player though - http://www.ac-s2.com/)
But both players also support winamp 2 skins - this is very important becauce then you got a collection of 1000+ skins (http://customize.org/winamp2)
Features:
Pocket Player (http://www.conduits.com/products/player/)
- this player has (custumizable) crossfade and supports MP3, WMA, WMV, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and WAV
- It also supports many visulation modes.
- It has today Screen Support.
- It supports EQ
- And plays net radio very well.
- Have more options then Pocket Music has.

Pocket player in full screen mode. Looks good. But now that diamond has a vga screen is has to stretch the skin to fit it. But it looks okay
pocket player not in full screen - it cuts off the playlist manager buttons but pocket player doesn't support these buttons anyway.
[SEE PICTURE]
this is the pocket player playlist. it's really touch friendly.
Pocket Music (http://www.pocketmind.com/pmfp.htm)
- this player supports MP3, OGG, WMV and WAV
- Has crossfade (not customizable)
- supports only a few visulation modes
- It supports almost EVERYTHING on a winamp skin. (this is a big plus)
- Also had a today screen plugin.
Now this is a picture taken in full screen mode. it support alot more then pocket player does with winamp skins. As you can see the mini graph is also displayed on the EQ and total time works also.
[SEE PICTURE]
You can also remove the EQ - cannot be done with pocket player.
You can also make winamp small - really cool thing - can also not be done in pocket player.
[SEE PICTURE]
Another display mode not possible by pocket player.
[SEE PICTURE]
Original playlist of pocket music - not as good as pocket players. It is not as touchfriendly.
So my conclusion:
Pocket player is the most advanced player. It can support winamp skins and alot other skins. I think this is the best and most stabil one. Also on incoming call it works like a charm. I will recommend this player if you want a really advanced player (probably the most advanced out there) but don't have the need to get a fully working winamp skins on your mobile. S2U2 also works fine with this player.
Pocket Music has really nice skin support for Winamp 2 skins. And it works really well. But it is not as advanced as pocket player. So I will recommend the player if you REALLY like winamp skins and like to have (almost) full support for it. Works fine on incoming call but when S2U2 opens it stops playing for a half second and the screen doesn't go out instantly.
Well that was my choise when it comes to pocket players.
If you think there is a better pocket player out there please forum back so I can have a look on it.
I have attached the winamp original skins for the players.

Pocket Player for me, though I will admit to not having used the other one!
I like Pocket Player's today plugin and the number of options that can be customized.
I don't use TF3D but I do use wired69's Diamond style skin.

Yes it is a really nice player. Also the skin by wired69 but now I'm more onto winamp skins.
But i actually think that the today plugin of Pocket Music is a little bit nicer (graphical)
But pocket player has a fine today plugin too...
I think CorePlayer (or the orginal old free TCPMP) is the best palyer,
non of above support FLV , and CorePlayer support it...

It is a good player too indeed. It plays everything (almost) but its just to boring to look at... There are skins out there for CorePlayer but not stuff like Winamp skins. But I use this player for AVI videos and other video. And pocket player or pocket music for music.
FLV - Flash Video is a good function for coreplayer but just too sad it is a limited edition. I mean i cannot play all flash videos - only youtybe mostly...!
Looking for the best...
I am looking for the best player too.
I think there is some important points in the player and no one is the best in all. This why I didn't find the best.
Maybe there is no best player.
The important points:
1- battery needs
Pocket player needs too much, in HTC touch plays 5 hours.
Pocket Music needs less
Coreplayer, the best, more then 10 hours !
when we listen music in the phone to much, the battery can dead before the end of the day with Pocket Player.
2 - Library use (tag)
Pocket Player is far the BEST, looks like iphone.
...but.. with 1.000 songs became slow.
Pocket Music and Core Player have a old way to manipulate the files, looks like windows explorer..
3 - Beauty (skins)
Pocket Player is the BEST.
I don't like winamp skin...because then I need to use the stylus...
Best to use the fingers.
CorePlayer is confuse to change the skin, and with some skins some functions do not work well.
4- Audio Quality
Very near the quality, but I prefer the CorePlayer with high bass using the Equalizer.
Then....
I would like a player
- with the Pocket Player Library and Skin (BUT FAST)
- The CorePlayer battery needs.
What we can do????
Jorge
i use S2P for playing music
its good and free
I'm often faced with the job as hobby-DJ on friends parties, as i care a lot about the music, so I'm looking for a way to make my Diamond2 into a fullblown all-night pocket-party-machine with the right playlist at the right time.
I understand the pocketplayer's got great crossfade capabilities, but what player can do the best auto-gain and/or multiband compression? Anyone's done that a lot?
I think Nitrogen is the best!
Check it out here!
Nitrogen is just too plain and basic. S2P's later version are just so awesome it's ridiculous. Using it on a HTC Fuze. It get's my vote.

Good review, thanks for sharing it.
Is it better than the Media Player?
Time
After about 30 mins of playing it crashes.

Hello. I was wondeirng if anyone can recommend a good youtube program besides youtubeplay? youtubeplay is ok, but It doesnt let you list by date or relivance or whatever. Also, is there any program that plays or downloads veoh.com videos? Thanks
The best way to play ANY streaming media site on a win mo smartphone imho, is the skyfire webbrowser:
http://www.skyfire.com
use phelps8 to get an instant download.
Any streaming media site I've used works awesome with skyfire. Takes some getting used to. check the forums for details. But sites like hulu.com work AWESOME with it for watching full episodes or movies..
mycast.orb.com when set to stream in flash will open right in the browser too which is incredible for streaming off a home PC...
break.com,youtube.com,stupidvideos.com etc etc all work great.
I use CorePlayer and it works great
Skyfire works awsome!! feels like im on a PC viewing the many video streaming sites..only one that doesnt seem to work is veoh..doesnt load the videos
YouTubeplay
CorePlayer has a YouTube quick-button, with several quick choices, like "Most popular" and "most linked to." But beware: The program can hang your 6800 if you go full-screen, requiring a soft-reset.
I've read great things about the new multimedia player with the Japanese-sounding name (K-something?); can't think of it now. It was designed for rich Web content from the ground up.
Kinoma ?
Kinoma
That's it: Kinoma.
Thanks to this thread, I installed YouTubePlay. It works flawlessly; rotation and full-screen toggling cause no freezes. I'll still use CorePlayer for music. Mostly, I watch downloaded TV shows. For that, I prefer Windows Media Player because I've installed a plug-in that lets it remember where I left off...just as my Audible Player does for books I've bought at Audible.com.

I think it operates better in full screen mode as well.
youtubeplay plays the lower quality youtube streams, that's why it works "good". The quality is poor.

well, if you watching it on your phone's bandwidth, you might not want to wait for a high quality file to stream over evdo, or use the extra data if you don't have an unlimited plan.
Skyfire plays embedded flash videos pretty well, but its at around 15 frames per second, so its not as smooth as watching it at home, or downloading it first.
TCPMP with the flashVideoBundle.cab installed works well with pocket IE and will give you the option of downloading the video to your phone (so you can watch it later), or streaming it right on the spot (after a short buffer), which works pretty well.

Kinoma is much better..

i wish i could agree with that assessment crazylilboy. ive tried kinoma. and havent gotten to neromobile just yet. but, kinoma SUCKS!! cool interface and that's where the positive end. it hijacks all ur file associations so you cant play anything straight from file explorer as it becomes unrecognized. it scans ALL my folders for media even crap that is in program files and other directories that arent media related as thats what support says it shouldnt be scanning. lastly, and this really isnt all. movie playback is crap compared to coreplayer. it only supports 3 file types, one of which a normal person would use or encode their movies to(mp4). u cant decent quality because u have to keep the bitrate soo low for it not to freeze or chop up. so, ill try this as it cant get much worse and if u need other reasons NOT to use Kinoma, PM me

So, what do you guys say is the best music player anyway, with a good combination interface and features. I really didn't like S2P due to the lack of sorting by ID3 tags and lack of equalizer et all, Touch player(samsung's bundled with omnia) is OK, and Kinoma is speedy and all yeah, but not that big on features. Any other alternatives.
And uhm, cab possible? Or just the installed folder zipped?
A good Music Player for WM... theres a number of them but it all depends on personal preference and there are a couple which do stand above the crowd such as Conduit's Pocket Player and PocketMind PocketMusic.
s2p is obviously the best music player.
as for video.. i'd go with coreplayer.
Already tested neromobile but I still prefer TCPMP for stable and light, or s2p for it´s nice design
TCPMP v0.81 + Plugins (Unofficial)

Thanx to teixeirabmb for providing this
for me is coreplayer and pocket player
CorePlayer + Opal YouTube + S2P (because it kicks ass) + WMP for playlist = too many media apps, but it's all I need, also MobiTV !
i use mortplayer with iphone skin
i just luv how you can track change using gestures...
i use my phone as car music player so i dont like looking for buttons while driving
I tried Nero Mobile more than a year ago.
I will not try that again....ever, not if there are other choices out there.
Some of you mentioned S2P, I thought S2P is just a shell for WMP. Is it actually a player?
A Cab File Please..
Can anyone here provide a cab file for neromobile please.I'll be much thankful for the help.Please.....
I have my HD for about a month now and I am wondering which music player you guys use most... I do like the touchflo music player, but since i have disabled TF3D i cannot use it anymore... Have tried Core Player and WMP but none of them are really finger friendly, in terms of browsing for media....
any recomendations for a finger friendly music player???
I use only Pocket Player.
mortplayer , nitrogen , s2p
PocketPlayer is the best. Worth spending money on it. Crossfading, FLAC/APE/AAC support, great and finger-friendly library...the only bad thing about pocket player is that you can't get it on your desktop PC
PS. Oh, and HD becomes a bit laggy when using pocket-player, but it mostly manifests itself with poor tf3d framerates.
Receiving calls, writing sms etc works fine. Since you don't use tf3d this shouldn't be an issue for you.
I use Pocket Player and I have had problems with it - the HD certainly is laggy when running it and fairly often I have to Soft Reset and even Hard Reset to get the phone back to a usable state. I haven't looked into a alternative yet.
EDIT : I should say that I have disabled TF3D and use SPB Pocket Plus instead.
I use PocketMusic 5.0
Equalizer is more effective than the one within mediaplayer. Together with a Bose QC3 headphone. Great sound!
About a year ago I tried every music player I could get my hands on. I found Pocketplayer to be the best for what I need. I have been using PocketPlayer for almost a year now on various devices. Seems the slowest on the HD. Minimising/maximising takes too long imo. The program is fantastic, only downfall is the speed.
Pocket Player for me.
I like also Pocket Tunes but it does not have a WVGA skin so you have to put up with VGA. The advantage is the sound quality is a little better than Pocket Player.
But, if I had to have only one then Pocket Player.
Kinoma FreePlay or Kinoma Play.
Unlike all the other players, it doesn't get slow when you have 5-10GB of music.
It features smooth scrolling and a beautiful, ultra fast user interface.
Makes use of GSensor and rotates with a nice animation.
I think it's the best player and I could not find any disadvantages. Other players have disadvantages like PocketPlayer getting slow with lots of music in the library, S2P not working in landscape mode (except for coverflow) and being a bit buggy sometimes, PocketTunes not working with WVGA....
Kinoma is finger-friendly, ultra fast, stable and feature-complete.
pocket player top tip for hd !! On pocket player advanced settings set the priority to normal
sorry for the semi-offtopic but does one of the mentioned players let you choose the shuffle by album like in good old ipod?
i can say for sure that tf3d wmp and s2p don't (sadly!!)

Simple, it uses less cpu ! the higher the value more cpu it will "reserv" for itself leaving for e.g. tf3d "laggy". Bellow normal while doing smt heavy the music starts to stutter.
Try it !
thank you for all the feedback guys... all of you have been more than helpful...i will try pocket player
Has any1 tried PocketMusic..i find it more easy fast and better sound quality than pocket player. You can select a folder or even a single track
Hey guys, I tried almost all players besides Pocket Music and Kinoma FreePlay. Until now, the best for music was the native wmp, coreplayer being horrible for music for me.... Now I want to test Pocket music, but I have a problem, how and WHERE can I get a WVGA skin???? The native one is really beautiful, but "only" VGA. There should be about 10000 themes as it comes from Winamp, BUT, which one is WVGA?.. Could someone please help me? Thank you!!!!^^ to topic: until now, I "love" wmp, cause its hardware accelerated, so it NEVER stopps with multitasking (only on opening Opera, but I think Opera takes for this task full 100% cpu) and it shows my covers beautifully^^ but just try all, there are always trial versions

Best Apps & Video Player for Xperia Play: Supporting MKV with srt /ssa subs '720p'
I'am an huge fan of Japanese anime and i do prefer watching my movies and series in their native language with subs. Yesterday i was checking the market for the Holy grail and after 4 hours i finally found the solution.
So after installing and checked every player in the market i finally found the only player that can play BD Rip 720p (1280x720) with subs (srt & ssa) function with hardware acceleration.
I tested all the Free and priced application and i can tell for sure that many of those one don't play MKV and need optimization and work on hardware acceleration:
RockPlayer (pro) 1.7.2 : Laggy, don't load subtitles, glitch/pixelation/macroblock depending on the video.
No support for hardware acceleration for Xperia Play use software mode to play the video.
Good Menu and options
Move to SD
Vplayer 0.9.4 (unlocker): Buggy, laggy, don't load subtitles inside MKV incremented, glitch/pixelation/macroblock depending on the video.
No support for hardware acceleration for Xperia Play use software mode to play the video.
Move to SD
Best video Player : Might be the same as above with a different name Not tested...
VLC direct pro: Streaming load movies and video from computer...
Forget about it...
VitalPlayer 1.2.7 (Pro): Play fine with little lag in software mode, don't load subtitles inside MKV. (UTF 8 not supported ?) glitch/pixelation/macroblock depending on the video.
No support for hardware acceleration for Xperia Play use software mode to play the video.
Good option and menu but ugly interface
Move to SD
MvideoPlayer 2.8.2 : This app is weird cause it says that it DOES ONLY PLAY WHAT YOUR PHONE ALREADY SUPPORTS... but to tell you the truth what the purpose of a player if it plays what you have already.
Don't load any MKV on Xperia Play
No support for hardware acceleration for Xperia Play use software mode to play the video.
Good interface.
Move to SD
QQplayer 1.0.152: One of the best player i tested using Software acceleration - in fact this player can play everything i tried with some little lag at starts but really the subtitles are working with some errors on opening in Anime but everything works fine when you are watching the episode.
Many usefull option and simple interface.
No support for hardware acceleration for Xperia Play use software mode to play the video.
Move to SD (really small size)
ArcMedia 1.5 (pro): What! No app2SD! Big! Don't waste my time ! Not tested
MoboPlayer v1.2.145 Free; This player is awesome, great interface can play everything smoothly, Move to SD small size in internal, Thumb support, Ultra great option that permit almost everything. Support Hardware Acceleration for Xperia Play ! No Lag, Subtitle working greatly (multi sub track works) Opening in anime show all the subtitles : lyrics/translation/japanese
1080p: Laggy
Play every Format and accept stream
Best of the Best

I was lucky and found Mobo Player in a few minutes. Didn't realise people didn't know about it or i woulda made a mobo player thread ages ago.
Here's a tip for Mobo Player -
If a video file doesn't play, switch to software mode and it will work.
I havn't come across an.avi file that hasn't worked perfectly on my Xperia Play with Mobo Player yet.
It is indeed awesome
cant say I've gotten around to watchning videos on the device apart from BBC iPlayer or YouTube but I'll definitely give it a shot. You never know when you need a video player
Thanks dude I do lots of road trips and this will be perfect, especially since rockplayer doesn't work for me

I don't really have a Play, but seeing Arc and Play are pmuch the same thing - Arc Media Pro is hands down the best media player, MoboPlayer lags when you compare the two
Weird...I tried to play a 720p episode of flight of the conchords...no audio.
Next, 720p episode of South Park...audio, but no video..then force close, leaving my cpu pegged at 100% with no visible process to end. Must Reboot.
well..terrible time with it so far..dunno why it hates me
speedyink i have both mobo and QQ installed i don't have any problem playing my anime episode 720p. but i had an incompatibility once on an episode and used QQ to play it. You should have at least two installed to do the comparison on some files.

+1, This is a great post . Never thought of watching anime on my phone. Might have to give it a try. Thanks for taking the time saves me some trouble.
*shudders @ the thought of people watching english dubs*

True that. Totally prefer in original language. (Although the occasional ParodyDub is fun). As a US person though, besides FanSubs, I also make use of a service called "CrunchyRoll" which has an android app. I suggest US folks try it out. I know it is also available in several other places (minus Japan) and lots of current series are simulcast (well within an hour of broadcast in Japan, and with subtitles) for subscribers and available otherwise after 1 week.
Try Diceplayer 1.3.0
Diceplay finally support Xperia Arc.
Diceplayer can play 720p High + DTS + MKV files with HW Video Acceleration.
ssa/srt/smi external sub + mkv embedded subs

Cifs.co does not work for me. I get a null pointer error when I try to connect to a share.
I know this has been asked before but I haven't seen any real responses from an Arc owner.
Does the Arc support 720p High-Profile H.264 in an MP4 container?
I'm considering selling my Galaxy S because it lacks HDMI out so I'm looking for a device that will play 720p over HDMI. I know it lacks MKV support but I would be interested to know if it supports HD MP4s.
Yes Arc records Videos at 720p @30 FPS.
Yes mp4
No mkv

Since the Play and Arc share the same CPU & GPU:

If someone found another great player and make a review and share it. That would be Great

also, if you want to encode your videos and take advantage of hardware acceleration, see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467590
Thanks for the replies. I'm very surprised how few reviewers, or even end customers care or seem to be aware about hardware video support. Tegra 2 single-handedly killed my interest in every current gen Android tablet; if I wanted to transcode my hundreds of movies I'd buy an 'i' device!
I agree Mobo player is best of i've used but when i use it with bluetooth stereo the video just plays in fast forward mode and there is no sound in the earphones, same with summer player a.k.a best vidoe player pro. Any body else faced the sam e issue ?
what about Hardware acceleration on ICS?
Is the mobo player still recommended? Or is there something new?
I use MX Player, but I haven't tried a 720p mkv yet. I have a feeling its performance is similar to Mobo Player's.
