ok i've done a bit of searching and i'm pretty sure its software related.
i got an mda pro from when i booted the phone up its had a o2 splash screen, so im assuming its had its software updated. so the phone works fine for about 6 hours or so but then it starts tt freeze up, propgrams stop responding and the phone wont do any thing. i left the phone like this for a few moments then i got a txt and the phone seamed to be working fine untill i went to use the camera and i got "the file camera cannot be opened. either it is not signed with a trusted cert or one of its components can not be found you might need to reinstall or restore this file".
ok so i had a look and found the Available Universal Versions and Upgrades
the thing is i'm not sure which is the best to use or how to do it.
what would you guys recomend i do ?
thanks
MDA Pro with O2 Rom?
Seems so that there is other Rom on it. Normally, this is not a Problem, but who knows, what was changed in this Rom.
I would recommend to download new Rom and install this.
Try http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html
Thats got the latest XDA update.... give it a go and then get the new 1.09.00 radio update too...
Hopefully that will sort you out!
chears i'll give that one a go and see what happpens. fingers crossed
ok so i downloaded the Xda Exec ROM v 1.13.188 from the above site followed the directions in the pdf file, connected the phone and made sure there arnt any programs running in the backgroung. when i try to runn the application to do the upgrade it says its trying to connect to the phone then gives
"error 201: get device data error
can not get device data
please make sure device is connected and run this update utility again"
only problem is that it is connected or so ms active sync says.
any ideas whats goign on or is there another way to update the software ?
thanks guys its apreciated
ok so i managed to get past that stage but
now i get
error 102 ce image file check sum error
the rom image file to be used for the update is corroupt. please download the correct device software update utility and try again.
i have no idea what that means any sugestions ?
@cusaeng, can't help with the ROM update but your initial problem of problems after 6 hours is typical of the Universal when its running low on RAM. Use an app like GSPMaigc+ which can really close processes and reboot once a day (obviously once you solve the ROM issue).
chears i'll look in to that program once i get the rom issues sorted
i've trued downloading a version of the jas jar rom and that give the same error message about being unable to get device information.
when i flashed phones befor eg a motorola a1000 you had to get the phone in to bootloader mode then use a progran to flash it is it a simaler process with the mda ?
i really dont know if i'm doing anything wrong or not

Here's something you could do. Install it and you will find out.
...No, you won't lose root.
My wife's phone is asking for this update. I told her to update it, but it will not install. It will download the file and ask to install, but thats it "application not installed". Any way to install this or get this popup to go away?
This update FUBARed my VM. I had to wipe all data to get it to work again, and if I apply the update, it breaks again. Any way to get rid of the "Mandatory Update" prompt?
Update - Just got off of the phone with Sprint. Tier 2 escalations support manager syas they have seen several EVOs loose VVM and VM indicator after applying the "Mandatory Update". Rep told me to not apply it and ignore the message. Also said there is no way to remove the message.
Sounds like a good reason to use Google Voice for our voicemail instead of the Sprint app.
ETA: Then you can just remove the VVM apk from your phone and never worry about it again.

I complained about this today, and received a $10 credit.
I posted this solution in another thread also. My friends phone is rooted and running Fresh 1.0.1. I'm assuming that its because Fresh signed this ROM so the signature doesnt match for the new mandatory VM update. Try this and see if it works:
A friend of mine's phone did this today also. It kept giving an error when he tried to update Visual Voicemail. I ended up enabling "Unknown Sources" to make it work . . . He is running Fresh 1.0.1. (Yes, way behind I know - He agreed to let me update it after our Thanksgiving break)
Menu > Settings > Applications > Check 'Unknown Sources'. This fixed his.
BTW: Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Feel free to uncheck this after the update, or if the update still fails. (If you are paranoid about having that enabled)
Thanks, but that isn't the fix to my problem. I always allow unknown sources for install. The VVM update will install, it just won't authenticate with the server.
Not sure if this is the same update i had months ago, but it allows you to turn on Sprints version of voice mail to text, it wiped my VM data as well.
Speaking of voice mail to text, I discovered somethin g the other day that's kind of neat. If you send an SMS to a land line number, it will ring the phone and, if answered, a computer voice will read the SMS. If the phone goes to voice mail, the same voice reads the SMS to voice mail. Pretty cool...and I don't think there is a fee for the service.
I had no problems with my update... Always use the default msg, so I don't know if it would have wiped VM info, but I still have all my old VM msg's...

Won't even download
Has anyone else had my symptom? Refuses to download when I tell it to: "VoiceMail > Settings > Check for upgrade". It goes online to check, then says "A mandatory upgrade is now available. Includes FREE Trial to Voicemail-to-Text". Pushing the "Upgrade" button immediately complains "General failure. Please try again at a later time".
It won't download the upgrade image at all. Anyone else?
(Perhaps it's because I'm still running 2.1; refused OTA upgrade to 2.2 so far, keeping rooted 2.1)

Well, that "sounds just fine on paper", but after upgrading to exactly that, a "stock rooted Froyo 3.29 base", I've still got the Messages (SMS) app reminding me via Notification that "A mandatory update is now available", and it still gets the same "General failure" error.
Sigh.

Hello All,I have a Samsung Intercept with all of its failings I have no problem with it.I havent rooted it or anything as such.I did get the froyo 2.2 update here starts the problem.Sometimes my daughter will send me pics in a text and I can see them, sometimes I cannot,I cannot even find them when it says it has downloaded them.Ive looked all over the fone for them, they are not to be found unless Ive missed something somewhere, which is possible lol.
I did not have this problem till it updated Ive went thru the manual to no avail. All I get when she sends a pic in a text when it doesnt work is just who its from and the time. Then other times I can get the pic to show up in the text window without no problem.I am really getting angry over this.Im not new to linux,I have a laptop with fedora on it.Any help I can get would be much appreciated.Thank You
you could download the android sdk and tools
developer.android.com/sdk/
open ./tools/adb logcat and recieve a mms the error will show up pretty clear
(almost dmesg) if it is a missing .so it's probably due to a bad OTA(over the air) update...
if this is the case...
you have 2 options:
-first would be to take it to a service center and tell them of the issue(as long as it isn't rooted) and they can repair the software or repair it...
option 2... (rooted device), will void the warranty...
-download a rooted kernel, or use interceptRoot to "gingerbreak" the device..
-get into CM01 recovery
-set up a custom "stock" rom, deodex it with a template or a script,
-download a custom rom (many to choose from), or enjoy a much more enjoyable, customizable, lessbloated, and stable version of froyo...

For some reason, on Froyo MMS on the intercept doesn't send unless you are connected to a 2g/3g network and not Wifi. Try turning off Wifi and try again

That usually happens with the device has been rooted (allows more control over the system). Your device must have been altered BEFORE you bought it by the previous owner.
But now you can put a custom recovery (I use Philz Touch 6.07.9 Recovery) & ROM (I use Omega ROM) on your phone, after all it's your phone do with it as you wish.
Re flash your firmware to bring it back to non modified status and then you'll be able to stay on official channels if you're not interested in rooting and such.
