how to change wm6 default apps? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

for example: make thumbcal default calendar
thanks

Menu-Extras-Setting-Standard for Calendar
if you want a application be the default one it must be in Settings of this application, so just look there a little bit, seems to make more sense than open such threads By the way:
1. Did you read first tread for such questions ?
2. why dont you ask that in the thumbCal thread ?
3. The default Calendar thing has been asked a hundred times there, so it seems you even dont searchor read there ?
if you mean the left softkey too, search for "changing softkeys"
thank you

unfortunately the default app setting for this change in thumbcal does not work, thats why i spent two hours looking in different threads for a solution, the one hack that did work for somebody i couldnt duplicate because i dont know how to edit a system file (and i tried several different ways)
i did ask in that thread, but thot asking here would catch somebodys eye who either had a solution or something positive to contribute
i thot this forum was about sharing knowledge
if this post is really that out of line please delete it

try using total commander, you may have to remove the readonly or system attributes to the file through total commander, edit it (which you can also use total commander for) and then change the attributes back

thank you for responding!
this was one of the first things that i tried but i wanted to try it again before i replied
i can uncheck attributes of calendar.exe ie: read only and system but i cant uncheck "inROM" its greyed out
so when i hit ok read only and system revert back to checked
thanks again for trying to help, i appreciate it

works with manilla2D, so guess with more apps?

- Download VJBrisk.cab
- Install it
- Copy vjbrisk.exe
- make a backup of calendar.exe
- Rename vjbrisk.exe to calendar.exe
- make a LNK (shortcut) to your application and name it vjtarget.lnk
Place both files in your Windows directory (yes, overwrite calendar.exe)
I found this somewhere in the Manilla2D threads (don't know wich one anymore).
Good luck

Can't you just open up thumbcal and go to its menu option and select "Extras" followed by "Settings", then scroll down and pick/check "Set as default calendar"?
EDIT: Sorry just read post 2 who practically tells you to do the same, must have ignored it as I feel the post was a bit out of line. On the same note though, that was all I did and it seemed to work, that may be because I am using an Omnia at present.

works fine as a direct link through programs , just not through the cube
any ideas?
First Go here then try here
no joy so far
tries shortcut creator, been through the lnk thread... again....
tried google...
there must be a way to shortcut to a specific folder???
if you read the actual 051 thread, slither discusses this many times and says it won't be available until 052
I think it involves passing a parameter to fileexplorer...

cheers mate but vust links to the 'my device' page on file explorer no matter what i do.
have looked into and edited folderview.exe so it should route to an alternative folder but the signature is not taking via msigner.
was thinking that this might be the 'simple' way but must be doing something wrong, was thinking set the shortcut to a generic option (ie Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Test) would give some flexibility (we could just add/rename folders in the program list
any idea what i am doing wrong on the resign?
edit: unsign/resign done will work on the edit to see if i can get this to work

Please try this It's part of Wisbar Advance 3, Start Panel. Files in folder my documents > my documents and exe put somewhere.
http://ike-dats.thez.info/public/startpanel.rar
If you have problems with startup (blank white page) and using wktask or programs like this, make exception to run always in background. Then to refresh list you must restart it.

You can change the "url" of folder in config file, if you select for example start menu, than can you change folder tapping the top curtain. But you can go only in includes folder. I can't explain it, try it yourself
cheers man,
appreciate the work

I need a tab removed too, it's so annoying to press everytime the wrong tab instead of youtube
Depending on how your ROM has been set up by your Telco... this should work. Go to your Main Memory then see if there is an "\Application Data\Manila" folder. If there is,...then the fix is simple.
Either rename the \Manila folder to something else, or go into that folder and rename or move the 2 files
InternetPortal.xml
InternetPortal-en-AU.xml (where -en-AU is your language /country).
If the ROM can't see these files you will get the default settings from "Windows\27c65cbd_manila".
Your Carriers "OperatorLinks" should now be gone from the Internet Tab. Not the shortcuts but the Operator links that look similar to the YouTube one.
If you do not have an "\Application Data\Manila" folder then the solution is slightly more complex as you will have to edit "Windows\27c65cbd_manila".
Try the above method first. If no luck report back and me or someone else can post the other more complex method.

The method is the same, you can find in both files the entry
<Operator Links>
...
</Operator Link>
Just remove them and all Links are Removed. Editing the 27c65cbd_manila is just a bit dangerous if you don't make a copy before you are editing it
Yeah but you can remove \Application Data\Manila files hocus pocus with no editing - that is why this method is better, if you simply want to remove branding as these guys do. The underlying 27c65cbd_manila version will keep the stock ROM settings.
One method is to delete a file that is superfluous - the other is to edit a file that Manila needs. So not the same.
Like you say the files are basically identical though, each with the setting coming as you say from the operator links area.
I guess you could say I described the Safe Simple dummies method that should work.

I agree, but if you just remove the two xml-files, the youtube-link will still be there because it's also integrated in the manila-file.
True but if you re-read what the guys were after.. they want to remove the links that look like the youtube link. Not the you tube link. So the simple method will do that.
i found the two files in manila internetPortal.xml & internetportal-en-gb.xml
but its protected and i cant delete them ... hidden and protected as system files read only
any way to remove them ??

I am on sprint and do not have the "\Application Data\Manila" folder so I have been playing with "Windows\27c65cbd_manila" to add a shortcut to Ticker Tape 0.5 by GeckoDev.
I have gotten the shortcut I wanted to appear on the internet screen (as shown in the screen shot below) but when I click the shortcut I get this error msg (as shown in the other screen shot below)
The File 'Ticker Tape' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this error...I have been searching but with no luck -
I have tried placing the exe and all related files in the widows directory because that is where the You Tube files are located but it didn't work. I think this might have something to do with it but I can't figure out in the "\Windows\27c65cbd_manila" file the file path to the You Tube icon does not exist that I can find. It might be a hidden folder but I can't see it in Total Commander. It says it is located "\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\youtube.qtc". Also what is a .qtc file? My searching points me toward "Apple QuickTime Support file" but I have never heard of it as an icon file in WM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

[05/24/2009 - v.12] Opera Backup/Restore Script

I use SASHIMI after every hard reset or flash. I got tired of browsing to the \Windows directory and waiting forever for it to list the files and then wait again to be able to go into the Opera9 folder just to copy the bookmark file and put in my SASHIMI directory. I'm not sure how many of you are the same way, but I've made a script to make this process 100 times faster! I've worked on this script off and on for a month or so now, tweaking it here and there.
My last tweak came about as a result of Opera build 15233 (found here) storing the Opera files in \Application Data instead of \Windows. This causes M2D to not pull the favorites from Opera on the internet tab. This was a big downside for me but all the benefits of this build over build 15202 kept me on the newer build. I had been building this script as I go, with intentions to release it to the public but never got around to it. Well this last tweak put me in gear to share it. Anyways on to the script...
The script allows you to backup/restore a few Opera files to/from a folder of your choosing. It will prompt you on first run to create the settings file the script uses to hold the paths. It will prompt you to select the path for the files to be backup'd to. The script will try to detect the Opera path on first run and if it's not able to determine the path it will prompt you to select it as well. Go to "Backup\Restore" to choose the file(s) to be backup'd or even restored from a backup. Go to "Set Paths" to change the backup path or Opera path later on.
[Change Log]
v.10 - 01/01/2009
Inital Release:
-Script settings file must be created and will prompt to do so on first run.
-Settings file creation prompts for backup path and tries to auto-detect Opera path, but will prompt if it cannot determine path.
-Allows you to backup/restore the following Opera files:
*Bookmark file
*Saved passwords
*Opera settings
*Skin
-If the Opera path is set to "\Application Data\Opera9" a new option will apear on the main screen to copy the bookmark file to "\Windows\Opera9" so M2D will read it and display the bookmarks on the internet tab.
-For skin and saved passwords, the script will create a sub-folder for each file in the backup path the same as they are in Opera directory.
-If backup folder or Opera folder are deleted or renamed for some reason the script will detect the original path no longer exists and will take you to the "Set Paths" menu.
v.10 Download
v.11 - 01/04/2009
-Added cookies file to listing of files to backup/restore
-Script will add filename for cookies file to the settings file automatically on startup.
v.11 Download
v.12 - 05/24/2009
-Added "Clear Cache" option to main page.
-Added check to detect old Opera folder and prompt to change if folder changes (upgraded Opera) and old folder still exists.
-Changed/deleted paths no longer force you to path menu, but now asks if you want to change. It will take you directly to the folder picker if answered "Yes".
-Moved "M2D Bookmarks" & "Clear Cache" options to sub-menu "Tools".
-Added a "Current Path" page to show the current defined path prior to changing the path.
-New icon added. Thanks to jmckeejr @ XDA!
-Added an "All Files" option to the file list to backup/restore all files at once.
v.12 Download

Type opera:config in the address bar of Opera and go to the user prefs section. You can change it there.

Thanks for this bud, I was just getting ready to write a small script to backup my passwords. I am not too familiar with mort yet, so glad you already did it. So, to repay you, I have made an icon and added it to your exe/cab. I was also wondering if you could add or help with adding "Backup ALL". This would save a lot of time.

That would be awesome. Make it a lot easier if you want to do a full restore. I am flashing a new ROM everyday, and I could maybe use part of that script to make run through UC for effortless restore If it was ok with you any way. I havent had a lot of time since I started customizing ROMs, so it would be awesome if you could add that in(just the full restore/backup part).

Thanks
can u use this to move other files to the sashimi directory as well or just opera files?

Why would u want to execute the script after a flash when u can just backup to the AUTO\Root directory in SASHIMI and have SASHIMI automatically restore? That's what I do. My backup location is set to "\Storage Card\SASHIMI\Auto\Root\Windows\Opera9" and my files are restored automatically after every flash/hard reset.
But if you really want just the script, you can always grab it out of the "\Program Files\Opera Backup\" directory.

Changing Quicklinks on homescreen

This ist probably a stupid question, but I just couldn't find a solution.
How do I change an already existing Quickling on the homescreen? The same question is also valid for the contacts screen.
Once I have defined a Quicklink on the Homescreen there doesn't seem to be a method to change it to something else, I couldn't find it anywhere in the settings. And touch-and-hold doesn't do anything eighter.
So if anyone knows the solution please post it here.
Thanks

Remove quick links
Try "Menu" (lower right corner) -> Remove quick links ->tap on the one you want to remove -> Done -> you're done
found solution (sorry)
Okay that works.
Thank for your help.
I'm also having Quicklinks problems.
I can delete/change the ones that point to programs but the last row of my Quicklinks point to my top websites (ie; Bookmarks/Favourites) and if I use the normal method to delete them it doesn't work! Has anyone else found this, or a solution?
What might be the issue is that I've installed a cab to increase the number of Quicklinks from 9 (3x3) to 16 (4x4). Could that be causing this, as in a stock HD2 that last row wouldn't even be there...?
Many thanks!
You may certainly use a *.cab which has modified the number of quicklinks on home tab, and which doesn't work properly, isn't ?
You can :
- uninstall this cab
- sof reset
- delete quick links
- install back the cab
- soft reset
Then it's ok.
I realise that this is an old thread but I am a new owner of an HD2 and still finding my way. I have done a search and this is the closest thread to my issue.
Just like ugotamesij I have 16 quick links on my home page. My probem is that I cannot remove an unwanted quick link by using the menu button option to get rid of it. The link that I am trying to remove is to the Excel Mobile program.
I would like to remove the .cab file that gave me the 16 links and then re-install it but I do not know how to remove the .cab file from the SD card.
I have located the particular file using the file explorer and deleted it from the list on my SD card but the 16 quick links still appear on my phone after a soft reset.
Can someone assist please?

you can use the registry editor to remove the links -
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home
There are keys marked with 0..9 (or 0..n)
each item is a shortcut on the home page.
there is a value called "IsExist" set it to 0,
and set all the other tring values to empty.
If you only want to re-order the links -
you can use the app in the following link

I am sorry to reveal my ignorance but I do not know what your instructions mean. I have never had a windows mobile phone before and have never attempted any tweaks.
This registry editor business sounds very interesting but sadly, it's like a foreign language to me.
If you have the time can you break it right down for me or point me to a "how to..." guide?

To edit the registry I use TotalCommanderCE,
it's free, just google it.
After you install it, run it, and click on the [\] button (top right of the screen)
double click "Plugins"
double click "Registry"
and then go to the path specified (HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home\. . . .)
go to each of the number folders and double click the values to edit them.
After editing - exit the TotalCommander,
and hold the power button, and select "power off", than turn the device back on,
so the new values would be loaded on bootup.
I hope it's clear enough.
Enjoy.
(BTW: if you are not sure - write down any o the value you changed,
just in case you need to restore the values to what they were before)
I feel as though I'm on the right path but require a little more help.
After a little further research I installed PHM RegEdit and using the directions provided by Som30ne have found the entry in the registry that relates to the offending quick link (Excel Mobile). It is next to a folder with the number 9.
The path is HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home\9
What do I do to simply remove Excel Mobile as a quick link?

No
there is a value called "IsExist" set it to 0,
Then click save Then reboot
I don't have a value named, IsExist". I can see;
IsNeedRefresh
IsReadOnly
IsSet
IsSet is the only one of these that has a value other than 0 (the value is 1).
Any ideas?
Can anyone help?

I dont understand - what do you mean it is near the 9 folder ?
There cannot/shouldnt/isnt any quick links near the folders.
The quick links are defined inside the folders.
Inside each of the folders (0 . . N) there are several entries - one of the entried is called "IsExist", and the others contain a path to a program link, and a path to the program icon.
Thanks for you patience.
I finally found the value IsExist and changed it from 1 to 0. I saved my change and then did a soft reset. Sadly, The quick link is still there and resolutely defies any attempts to remove it.
Is there something that I have missed or is there another way? If all else fails I can see only two choices;
1. Perform a hard reset and start again from scratch or,
2. Leave the quick link where it is and learn to live with it.
Any other ideas - PLEASE?
I am fairly new to this registry editing myself, but I also had this problem.
Using the good advice from this thread so far I have managed to get rid of the quick link from my 4x4 quick link grid.
I just looked at the registry values for an empty link and entered the same values for the one I wanted to remove. I then did a soft reset and it seems to have worked.
Thanks for the support speaky05 but I managed to get the required result by simply un-installing the .cab file that gave me the 4x4 grid and then re-installing it.
I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner.

Customizing start menu items

Guys,
Some tips regarding customizing start menu items are solved in this thread. Here you can find the links to them.
Great tutorials pointed by AndrewSH:
Made by bikeandestroyx for a Rom cooking newbies in customizing the start menu items:

Also for persons who can read in russian:

Also you can check alternative raving_nanza way - put all icons into one DLL.

The problem in changing bluetooth icon when the link to it is moved from settings to connection menu is solved by AndrewSH :

Thanks everybody in helping hand!
Skyguar, if you're going to customize the ready rom - you should also modify HKLM/Security/Shell/StartInfo/Start to define the new folders and items of your future StartMenu. All shortcuts made by cplmain.cpl and other cpls should be redefined to MyCpl.cpl to enable custom position (like for example moving Bluetooth to Connections instead of Settings)....
But you should remember that any hardreset will destroy your customization - so better save your registry edits and custom png files into one cab.
If you're going to cook the new rom with your own custom StartMenu order - the story is a bit more sophisticated.
But normally - you should read this before ...

AndrewSh,
Thank you for the answer, yes that what I want - cook it. I know everything about already cooked rom and changing the registry, but I can't find the information on how to cook it
Skyguar
I'm busy now to write detailed howto, but hopefully you still able to read in Russian - it's not so far from my land to your - only 170 km between our cities
So read here and further on in the topic - maybe this helps

Yeah, that's fine , this is what I needed but I couldn't find. Thank you very much!
you could just create a .dll with your icons inside and then link your custom .lnk with the icon inside the .dll?
*if you want me to teach you how, just private message me, ill teach you how to do it this way.
eg inside the .lnk would be this:
#\windows\XXXX.exe ?\windows\XXXX.dll,-X
(-X is the number position of the icon inside the .dll)
or
change the icon inside the XXXX.exe (some .exe do not like their icons being changed, eg they stop working )
tbh it is a lot better than the way your trying to do it, it is a lot more "cleaner" to do it this way, you do not need to add registrys or clog up the windows folder with image after image when you can have one single .dll
thanks

Good thread. I am new to this new icon concept and I liked both the way

Well
Ohhh.. lots of information, only two problems left and I can't find the information...
Like AndrewSH mentioned, moving Bluetooth to Connections instead of Settings and hide Settings (I have two now ) icon, which point to manila settings menu... .
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Bluetooth]
"hide"=dword:00000001
not sure if this is what you will need but if you have two icons maybe you need to make one hide...

Hello raving_nanza,
This is a bit not what I needed. I need to move:
1) Bluetooth to Connections and
2) hide Settings icon, which point to manila settings menu..
Should I edit cpl files? Don't know any editor..
np dude
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Bluetooth]
"group"=dword:00000002
*that will put bluetooth into connections
what do you meen = hide Settings icon, which point to manila settings menu..?
*if you go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\" you should see the one for manila settings.
*it might be listed under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\mycpl"
*if it is it will be listed as a number, for example "\mycpl\000"
*search all the strings inside and one should launch the manila settings
when you find it just add
"hide"=dword:00000001
and it should dissapear
Rn
btw i dont know how to edit .cpl files, i dont even know if there is an editor but you wont need to.
check in your windows folders if there is a .cpl file that launches the manila settings
