I know that someone posted a tread about this issue on XDA or some place else on the net, but for the life of me I can't find the thread now. I am trying to figure out why my wallpaper on my lock screen is clear, but when I use the same wallpaper for the Today screen the image looks grainy. Does anyone have a link to the thread that discussed this problem, or an answer as to why this occurs? I know this has been discussed before, so I apologize for bringing it up again. I am probably just putting in the wrong words in my search.

reaganh22, It was designed to overcome the exact issue that you're dealing with...the way sense doesn't display wallpapers you choose in full high-res glory. It takes a little learning, but it's awesome once you get the hang of it. Let us know if you need a hand getting it to work for you
Thanks so much guys! That was one of the threads I came across, but thought I had seen another one. It looks like this should do the trick though.
Hi Guys,
I've seen some discussion around the HD2's screen colour depth.
I've been doing some experimenting and have found that the colour depth is decreased when using a live wallpaper.
Im using the Darkstone's Froyo V1 Build with Cotulla's latest zImage. I havn't tested with the Sense build yet...
Give it a try :-
Set a Live Wallpaper
Now Add The Analogue clock widget, power control and Home Screen Tips widgets to a blank desktop.
Notice the Gradients of the widgets look blocky and appear low resolution.
Now apply a normal Image Wallpaper and you'll notice a real increase in quality of the gradients in those Widgets
I've taken screenshots to show you but when the screenshot of the Live wallpaper is looked at on the computer it looks perfect so must be an issue with the Way the HD2 is displaying it..
Here's the 2 screenshots :-

Dont read them if your not interested?
This is something that no-one has noticed so far and actually could be quite important - now why dont you go back to your 9million page thread and continue pointing people to post#4 like the real helpful fella you are eh....ffs
Yes, it's especially noticeable on the anologue clock but not on the pics you posted up. Didnt notice it at first. Sharp eyes you've got there. Lol

HD2 has poor colour quality from the get go, running multiple applications let alone an OS that is overlapping another OS on top of of multiple applications running in the background is bound to have more than some effects, least of all important right now being the colour. I have no idea what you're talking about, but perhaps a quick browse over the forum rules would be a good start, it isnt 9 million pages long so you shouldnt have too much trouble. The least you could do is post in a thread of whoever ROM/Android release you are using.

Yeah unfortunately they look normal on the screenshots i took for some reason which leads me to believe there's an issue with the way it's been displayed on the HD2.

First of all - the point of my post was to 'Prove' that the HD2 can display more then 65K colours as was first thought, if you'd read my post at all - what you've posted above is a complete nonsensical response.
This IS important as people 'like you' seem to think the HD2's screen is of low quality when in fact it isn't.
Maybe you'd have an idea of what im talking about if you took the time to read my post instead of 'trying' to be a Mod?
Maybe you should peruse the Forum rules and then you may in fact realise that i havn't broken any of them?
I wasn't moaning about it not booting, GSOD, SOD, No Sound etc i posted a unique 'observation' that may help in the further development of 'proper' graphics drivers for our port.
I also wasn't moaning about a bug of this particular build - so why should it be posted in the Thread for that build?
I just think some people around here have a chip on their shoulder and are trying to be something they are not - & you dear sir are not an XDA mod.
...whoa...nice...calm down guys...calm down...
Yep, no reason to get upset. I think that's a pretty interesting point you found there. Do you have any opportunity to store the screenshots into a lossless format? I really can't tell any significant difference from the two jpg´s you've posted there - been watching the two for about a minute and i can tell you that my eyes are known to color difference detection
i think it's better a thread like this than the 2348740860th always about "no booting, no sound, no radio, no android, no intelligence", all completely useless if the author read the forum form 5 minutes before posting, this thread is about a new "problem / symptom" and it's not useless... maybe it's not importante now to obtain 16m colors, but it's always something that can be fixed
on topic guys Dev forum not flaming
Keep it peaceful
Josh
i haven't really used an actual android phone (day to day) but im sure Google put that in there, because of Live wallpaper taking up CPU power thus lowering the quality of widgets.
EDIT: and the pics look EXACTLY the same (except for the wallpaper and time of coarse.)
but, on the device itself it is less quality, ive seen it before and thats why i use a static wallpaper.
Hi guys, yeah as i said in the post for some reason the screenshots taken directly didnt really show the difference for some reason.
I've taken some pictures using a camera and the difference is clearly highlighted here.
Cheers
Paul
I installed a live wallpaper on my Desire V5 build and noticed that the moon on the weather portion of the Sense clock (it was a clear night last night) changed color and looked a little more green than gray with the live wallpaper running. Don't know if its a bug or not, but it's just my observation.
Sorry to resurrect this ageing thread but it at least shows I bothered to search for it.
I seem to get this effect on some ROMS more than others, I also get it on the wallpaper itself but only for some.
I am thinking that it must be the wallpaper itself for me, it must be in a colour depth beyond the capabilities of the phone. For instance if I install the honeycomb ADW theme with the wallpaper enclosed I get this effect on the wallpaper.
Couldn't see any other threads about this, any ideas anyone?

I've just released Livestock Vs The Undead Lite v1.1 (free strategy game) onto Android Market and Amazon. (See screenshots attached)
I've tried to resolve all issues that had been raised and feel the game presents much more of a challenge. I've rewritten a large chunk of the graphics engine to handle a more involved playing environment. Added new characters, sounds and more features than I can list.
If you had tried it before and thought it too basic, or haven't tried it - please check out the new version and let me know if I'm it's starting to show any potential. If you liked it before, please let me know if you think any ways to improve it?
Sincerely - this project is being driven by feedback - so any is most welcome. All suggestions will be considered.
Many thanks,
Paul
Hi,
** EDIT : 04/06/2011 : Livestock Vs The Undead Lite is now completely free and available in the Android Market! Please check it out! **
I thought it'd be great to give and receive thoughts and feelings for my first ever attempt at an android tower defence type game. (Currently available on the android market.)
==========
A brief description:
"Only you can save the planet. Again. 'Cos you are good at it!
"The farm is under attack! It's an all out invasion from hordes of gruesomely reanimated dead and the animals aren't going to take it lying down.
"Fight wave after wave of increasing challenging life-challenged assailants.
Utilise each of the unique skills on offer from the livestock that are fighting your cause.
"This is a taste of an imminent future release."
==========
I am very new to all this and am keen to learn. The biggest question is : what do you think?
Cheers,
Paul

Hi!
Under the superb advice given from these very forums I have released the game freely into the market.
Just search for 'Livestock vs the Undead Lite'.
Please check it out and I would appreciate any feedback.
Many thanks,

Hi,
Very nice for your first game. Is this an original game concept by you or did you 'copy' it from another game? (I know it's based on tower defense games, but never saw a 'top down' one like this)
Played it one time now till I got to level 3, then I died
some remarks
- why is the screen shifting when I move the phone around?
- tutorial screens are not very clear plus they dont stay on screen long enough. It's like: "1 pig is 1 rocket, 1 hay is 1 shield, wait a minute.. what?" and then the screen is already gone
- also, it wasn't obvious that the chickens and stuff cost 'cash'. At first I thought they only 'cost' time. And I couldnt figure out why I couldnt build any pigs, thats when I realised I needed to build up cash.
- there's also no clear way to tell how much each animal costs in cash
- level 1 is kinda boring, I think level 1 is necessary, because you should give people the time too learn the game, but it's too long. When you reach level 2 things get a lot more interesting, zombies are coming at you in higher numbers and at higher speed (i think).
- I also think zombies get more health as you progress through the levels? But there's no way to tell, so I didnt know how many chickens to place
- Last remark: When a zombie reaches the first of your 'last defense' chickens, your basicly screwed. There's nothing you can do. Maybe you should introduce a bomb or something to push the zombies back?
- And also introduce some animals that don't just shoot up. (or maybe there are some in later levels?)
Anyway, it's pretty nice for your first game. I even enjoyed it a bit, but tower defense type games can't hold my interest for very long i'm afraid.
Hope this was of some help to you.
Grtz
Hi swimon,
First of all: many thanks for your feedback.
"Very nice for your first game. Is this an original game concept by you or did you 'copy' it from another game? (I know it's based on tower defense games, but never saw a 'top down' one like this)"
It has elements of several tower defence games - I thought the vertical layout would set it out from the rest. I haven't seen any other quite like this.
"Played it one time now till I got to level 3, then I died "
Not bad for your first go!
"some remarks
- why is the screen shifting when I move the phone around? "
It allows the player to see a larger playing area that the phone's screen. I was hoping it would make the game more involving and a bit more interesting to watch.
"- tutorial screens are not very clear plus they dont stay on screen long enough. It's like: "1 pig is 1 rocket, 1 hay is 1 shield, wait a minute.. what?" and then the screen is already gone "
I agree. I think I shall add a 'tutorial' section that incorporates levels one to three. Players new to the game will then get a gentle intro to the game and repeat players could then skips these easier levels to get straight into the action.
"- also, it wasn't obvious that the chickens and stuff cost 'cash'. At first I thought they only 'cost' time. And I couldnt figure out why I couldnt build any pigs, thats when I realised I needed to build up cash. "
As above.
"- there's also no clear way to tell how much each animal costs in cash"
That was the next thing on my list to do!
"- level 1 is kinda boring, I think level 1 is necessary, because you should give people the time too learn the game, but it's too long. When you reach level 2 things get a lot more interesting, zombies are coming at you in higher numbers and at higher speed (i think)."
This should be addressed in the tutorial as mentioned above.
"- I also think zombies get more health as you progress through the levels? But there's no way to tell, so I didnt know how many chickens to place "
You are correct - the creeps (I take it you haven't gotten past the zombies yet?) do get harder each level. I did this so you'll never reach a stalemate which would take all interest out of the game. My intention is to make some shooters more powerful against some creeps than others, which should add to the strategy element.
"- Last remark: When a zombie reaches the first of your 'last defense' chickens, your basicly screwed. There's nothing you can do. Maybe you should introduce a bomb or something to push the zombies back?"
Yep. I have a number of attack methods to add.
"- And also introduce some animals that don't just shoot up. (or maybe there are some in later levels?)"
As above.
"Anyway, it's pretty nice for your first game. I even enjoyed it a bit, but tower defense type games can't hold my interest for very long i'm afraid. "
Many thanks. I know tower defence isn't everyone's flavour of game but I do appreciate you taking the time to try it out and even more so for giving me this feedback.
"Hope this was of some help to you."
Absolutely!
Cheers

Just be careful with sensor controls. It's not everyone's cup of tea first of all, a lot of people don't like it. And secondly it's very difficult to implement well (imo).
You could also easily control the camera by swyping your fingers on the screen? Maybe make it a user defined setting.
Thirdly (is that a word?): I don't really see the point of it? I don't know at what resolution you tested it, but on my Desire, I can already see every row/column so there's no need to shift?

Maybe you should change the color of the shirts of the zombies as they grow stronger, so the player knows he's facing a stronger opponent.

You could maybe also add an option to retreat your animals. When you see your defenses are going to be breached, you can quickly change one of your chickens in for a pig or a hay stack. (or something like that)

introduce one animal that shoots sideways, the player could then first place a hay stack and beneath it a sideways shooting animal!
Also lastly: This game asked me for root priveleges? that's a big no no! so please fix that.
You can always PM me if you update to a newer version!

heya,
yeah, don't know why it asks for root permission. I clicked deny and remember and the game still runs fine. So dunno...
The game is actually pretty addicting, but it's also really hard (maybe thats what makes it addicting...)
I already found a way to cheat though
When you see one of your shields (hay stack) is about to go down, quickly replace it with another at the moment it get's destroyed
You could also introduce downward shooting animals to kill off the last zombies of the wave who are still attacking your hay stacks
Looking forward to the new version, 'cause I'm a little confused by the cash/time system
Glad to see your taking on board all the advice and critique on board, THAT is what makes a dev a GOOD dev.
Thanks for listening and keep at it!
Got to level 5 yesterday,
even managed to place one cat and one cow
but i'm not sure the cash system is in balance, I wasn't generating enough cash to build the more powerful animals/defenses to hold back to numerous (!) zombies and vampires

At the moment there is a slow cash over time increase - in case you put your first animal down in the wrong column on the first turn.
You get additional cash from shooting baddies - the more so the harder the creep.
The cooldown time is more for the hardier animal (apart from haystacks which I've kept quick cooldowns).
All this will be revealed in the tutorial.

v1.1b has been uploaded with further memory optimizations.
This should fix some of the issues a small number of you have reported.

New screenshots have been posted on the original post.
For the next release I am looking to persist current level - so when you come back to play you start at the selection screen of the last level you had reached (with the option to start from the beginning again).
I have also raised the bullets to the top level - as they were looking a little strange flying through friendlies!
I have tracked down a bug that was causing force closes when the game had be paused and the user returned.
I am also looking to add some more variety to the creeps, bullets and towers.
Any suggestions on what you'd like to see adding?
Cheers,
Paul

[Q] [App][2.3+] thesaurus word map - is my app really that bad it gets < 30 downloads
Heres the link https:// play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.valeonom.wordmap
I'm working on a cool way to do a dictionary in the app along with it being a thesaurus in it's current design. But with less than 30 downloads I feel like I want to do something else. When I first thought of the idea I thought of how cool it was all the way to finishing the app. And still think it's cool. Is the app bad? or is there something else that I'm missing for the so low downloads? Or maybe I just have too high of expectations?
Thank you

So apparently since this post 2 days ago you've grown to over 1000 downloads! Any tips on where you've been advertising?
Edit: Your app description looks a little short on words so it probably doesn't perform amazingly in the search results. Buffing out your description with keywords while avoiding looking too obvious will probably help boost your download count considerably.

My app isn't new, its been around for almost 1 year. It had accumulated all those downloads very slowly. And the description, I played around with all sorts of different descriptions for a few weeks. Even playing around with the name of the app. No matter what I set as the description, or title it had no effect on downloads. If you looked at the download stats, you wouldn't be able to tell when any of the changes have occurred. I tried having creative descriptions like poetry. No effect.
I tried blasting the description with keywords and that didn't do anything either. Interestingly crappy descriptions does not negatively effect my downloads. I'm curious what will happen if I give my app a crappy name will it negatively effect downloads? So far everything pretty much didn't effect downloads in any way (positive or negative).
I'm thinking what will happen if I rename my app to be called "A" and description "A". haha. Like I doubt there will be a negative effect. I've been reading alot on marketing, and really this app is my "marketing experiment" as to me it seams very good to experiment with, and it's not a bad app. All experiments I mentioned in this post I let it collect data for minimum 7 days before trying the next thing. The fact that all of this does not change downloads, even changing the icon to a nicer looking one had no effect, really boggles me. Even more stranger no negative effects from crappy descriptions.
What you just did is called A/B Testing
First of all Congratulations on getting 1000 downloads. But I guess the thread should be useful for others still struggling with getting good downloads.
So here's the thing, 'trying out crappy titles', playing around with different descriptions and other such experiments are actually good for understanding the best trend but it might have serious repercussions. What you need to do is try A/B Testing where you still get to try these weird changes but on a much smaller scale. Of course you can only do these changes inside the app, but trust me that works.
And as for the problem at hand, you lacking a good marketing plan, here's one for you..
1. Before app release
2. During app release
3. After app release
