Got some files in a CAB I want to install on a number of units. I would "like" to create an installer that I just double-click on desktop & it installs via ActiveSync - simple. But I'm not a programmer - what would be the best way to do this? Prefer not to copy via explorer & click the CAB on the XDA unit & others may be doing this, so trying to keep it simple. Ideas/recommendations?
I brought Natural Installer a few years back and it has been the business. It is very simple to use, all with a windows interface and creates a single exe as you say that you just double click on to install.
Have a look here :-
http://naturalinstaller.com/
The site does not mention 2003, have you had any problems with that?
Can you define install location? SD Card
How does it deal with chaty cabs (those that want input).
I've had no problems with PPC2003, why don't you download the trial version and give it a go. Post a reply on this thread as to how it works.
As for chaty cabs I think you can make your own setup.dll but I don't know how to and have never done that.
All I wanted was a basic setup that could make directorys, copy files and set some default registry keys as needed, I found that Natural Installer did that very well. As for more advanced stuff I don't know - but as written trial it.
Well I downloaded it and played with it.
For me it seems to be a WinCabManager type appliction.
Yes you can copy files, set reg entries, make dirs, add icons.
All of this seems doable.
What I was hoping for was a selfextracting file that installs a few cabs and not the content of them.
With the BlueAngel you can set up a autorun that runs a list of cabs in the config.txt file. However for this you need to hack the reg to set the pointer for the autorun and config.txt.
I was hoping that this would be more down the lines of cabinstaller that allows you to define which cab you want were but alas does not allow you to define a list of what cabs you want in what location.
So problem for me not solved but thanks for the tip.
Hi Dave
Personally I use NSIS (Nullsoft Installer) - it is basically a very customisable installer which can be scripted to look like any other installer in existance, or you can make it look totally unique to you!
Another great thing about it is that you can make it install multiple cab files at the same time (it's just a case of calling ActiveSync with the cab file you want to install).
Best of all... it's free

I played Game Infinite Dreams Sky Force in O2 Mini and ASUS P525, It's work and smooth. But when I played in HTC Touch Dual (Niki), the graph will not smooth (seems like memory is not enough).
Anybody have idea to handle this problem ??? Thanks
its the driver problem.

After porting touch driver from Dopod S600 to touch dual, this problem will be solved. I can play it very well using the touch screen on my touch dual now.
please elaborate on how to do it Id love to solve this problem also!
you need to cook the rom your self.using the oem\oemdrivers\touch from S600 rom that I post here.
have you sent this to htcclaasaction.org? Theyve been trying to solve this problem for a long time.
Is rom the only solution? Cant i just copy the file or instal a cab? Im still a noob at flashinr ROMs :-(
That is a driver issue. I don't think it's a good idea to fix this issue using cab.
I attached the touch driver files here. You can cook and G'reloc your rom using this driver.

You don`t need to cook enything, and you dont`t need to flash your device.
Here my instrutions. If you will follow them it will be 100% safe for your p5500.
1. Make Backup of your system. I recomend you to use spb backup v2.0.
2. Install Resco File Explorer. (Not all versions can overwrite rom files, i used v6.10)
3. Go to the options and make all files visible. Also make Resco File Explorer to remember last folder (you will need these if something will go wrong)
4. Copy files from archive in any place on your device.
5. Install install_cert.cab
6. Install SDKSamplePrivDeveloper.cer like CAB file.
7. Copy touch.dll over ROM file to \windows\ folder .
8. Browse to \windows\ folder and close Resco Explorer.
9. Make Softreset
10. Be Happy!
if somting will go wrong, your touch screen will not response. In these case you need run Resco Explorer using a hard keys. It will open \windows\ folder for you. Find Touch.dll and remove it! It will restore original file! Make Softreset.
PS: Sorry for my English Good Luck!
Wonderful
Just tried to install the new driver with your instructions. Works great. I tested it with NFS, with the original driver it was unplayable because steering is made via touchscreen and so graphics went very slow. But now, simply great. Much thanks!
I found you~
Thanks dude! previously the screen would lag if i keep on touching the screen, i.e. playing SkyForce. But after the fix, seems that now the screen is smooth.

Ok, I installed everything sucessfuly. But, It's not supposed the driver improves the system performance? It seems everything the same to me...
Great!! I'm a noob on cooking and gave up trying cook me a swedish rom months ago, this worked great. It's a joy using internet explorer and opera now, I'm truly fuzzed!
The whole device seems nippier also, but I dunno, might be the buzz from the smooth scrolling in IE that makes me see stuff that isn't there

I'm Really Having A Hard Time Trying To Install A Theme On My Diamond, would Somebody Plz Help Me Out?
1,use TF3D config
2,use winrar unpack *.theme, then copy to windows
thnx man i'll give it a shot,i'm used to wm5 so touch flow is totally new 4 me,there's a little issue though.
i couldn't apply a background picture
thnx man,it worked, unlike wm5 it took way too long
I still don't know why theme creators don't make a cab file of their themes. The only thing a theme is made of are manila files. With a cab file you also don't need the TFL3D config program. Simply click the .cab file on your device and you're done.
@ Theme makers: there is a application named Qickcab.exe. Cabs are so easy to use and you get rid of all the repeating questions on how to install .theme files.....

I think it's already a great favor that the theme creators make all the gorgeous themes and generous enough to share them with us (they could keep the glory to themselves, look at those gold and diamond themes. We could have been drooling at them instead of showing them off on our diamonds). Do you think we are asking a bit too much to ask the theme creator to make the new theme and then ask them, "why don't you make the .theme file as I don't bother to convert the .png to manila files? Why don't you make the .cab file even saving my time to install diamond config?" I think as fellow xda-developers who know what to do, we can help out by making them instead of asking the creators to do it themselves. Or create yet another sticky faq to explain it. imho. Anyway, I bet even when .cab is created, somebody would still post a question asking what to do with the .cab he downloaded.
I fully agree but its a hard work too to copy all files to windows folder...a theme file or cab isnt so much price to do for them. I think..maybe anyone of them dont know how to do it so why dont advice them...
Ok, sorry guys, in my previous posting it wasn't my intention to piss the theme creators off. I respect their hard work. But I find it a bit strange the way .themes have to be installed. First you have to install TFL3D config utility and then you have to make some additional steps to install a theme. Why not keep it simple and create a cab file of the theme ?
I think the knowledge of the theme creators is good enough to also find out how to create a cab file out of it.
Also creating a cab is a 3 click process. Takes only 30 secs extra
Will make a short guide how to make a cab in a moment.
The reason i make theme files instead of cabs is the file size..
I agree cab files is much easier, but they just get too big with a cab!
I use cab files for minor changes, like a clock or some icons...
exampel..
Vista Ultimate Theme.theme - 1560kB
Vista Ultimate Theme.cab - 9070kB

Ok that's a big difference. But How many files are in your themes ? Do you put all the manila files in it, or just the changed ones ?
In the end both will be 9070kB But I got your point.
theme file is much better than cab which cant be always uninstalable (experience with some clocks fot TF3D) and it isnt for me such a sacrifice to such a great themes to install this user friendly program

I have about 450 files... And I made it as small as possible..
It's not just the image files...
And it depends on who is installing it...
If you have the same TF3D as I have it would be enough to just install the changed files...
but If you have another TF3D you have to replace some other files too...

I think copying manila files is easier than installing as .theme (I haven't tried .cab so I can't say anything on that). I usually do it via bluetooth. All I need to do is to beam the relevant files (via bluetooth) and then move them to /windows (using Total Commander because you can select a batch of files to move instead of one-by-one). It doesn't take much time as the relevant files are not a lot (e.g. for the gold diamond theme, just fewer than 20 files). Simple drag and drop will do.
so first of all there is 200+ files so you have some lite version maybe
the second thing...Im using resco exp which is the best for me and every replace file in ROM i have to confirm very stupid, common File explorer is the same and I wont install another explorer just for installing themes...
Guys, guys, all That Is Good But I Still Didn't Get The Answer, why Can't I Put The Background Picture That Comes With The Theme In Th Background ? It Just Gives Me A Plain Background

200+ files for a theme? Well, I have tried the darkred/darkblue, gold, gold with diamond themes and they only have <20 files involved (all found in the thread Themes for TouchFlo3D). Where did you get the 200+ file theme? And don't use Resco exp. Use Total Commander instead. I have both on my diamond and Total Commander has an option "yes to all" (similar to Windows replace command) and all I need to do is to select the group of files, find the directory to move to and then "move" then "yes to all" and done. Just a few clicks on the diamond will do.
Or alternatively, you can wire connect your diamond to the PC and move everything from your pc (so that you don't need to touch any primitive file explorer on your diamond).
guys,r u gonna keep arguing & not answer my question,i installed a theme & came out very good but without the background,so how can i apply the background to it?

Hello all,
I got a question related with dialer themes.
I’ve downloaded AVLev’s English cab file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438412) and extracted it. Then I renamed all the files to JPG, as a hunch, and found out that they are of this type (or similar graphic which the PC can bear). In the XML file there’s a conversion between the name coded files in the cab and the actual graphic files in the windows directory of HTC Diamond.
If I’m not mistaken so far, can I do the following:
> Copy the original graphic files from my diamond to the names in the English cab, and by that create an installation for my original dialer?
> Then, modify the graphic files to any other color or shape (leaving the actual location of buttons in place) and install them as new dialer?
> If something goes wrong, I can always use the original dialer installation I’ve created to go back to the original dialer without having to do hard-reset?
Is that all there’s to it?
I’m asking it because my native language is too rare to participate in the themes celebrations.
Thanks in advance,
Avi

I always wondered what's the purpose of Audio Booster. From the description i read, it seems to boost audio only when recording. Not during normal phone calls or playing music etc. Am i right or I am misinformed?

Install this cab first, then copy the files I posted to /Windows overwriting the existing files. Also import the reg file I posted. If the cab file does not install, then you need to manually delete all the Audio booster files (all 22 of them) in /windows first.
CAB?
is there any chance you have winCE Cab Manager and you can edit the diamond cab? I dont have my laptop with me so I cant build a cab out of your post..
The main issue is that in case someone makes a mistake, they cant uninstall or revert what they have done without a hard reset. (makes testing impossible for me)
thanks for the work youve done on this... If you havent compiled a cab in a week Ill do it once I get home.

Ok. I am running into some problems creating the cab with WinCeCab manager. I added the regular files to be installed into windows. How do I add the xml files? There are 2 option to add either a pre or post-provisional xml file, but when I try to add them I get an error message.

with WINCE cab manager you dont need xml files. you just add the files and shortcuts and then the reg entries. same as cooking an extended package. the trick to modifying a cab though, is that you add the new files overwriting the old.
Thanks for the cab I will try it right now.
