Stocks Monitor? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I've searched the forum already (and a few others) and didn't come up with any program, that would monitor stocks or receive updates upon request...is there a program that does this? maybe I've overlooked it?

the Touch HD images did show a stock icon in the interface so when it gets released someone might be able to port it to ther devices..

I have not used it, but this MortScript might do what you need...
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=141737

Try searching pocket stock monitor 5.
It's the program I use. It's very easy to use and set up.

I'm planning on making one in the future, once completed
i'll post it here

Do a search for Pocket Stock Center. Its free, it's a one liner in the today screen, works quite well. I found it over at PPC Geeks.

There is a program being developed called Stocker, but I don't know if it's still being worked on. It's finger friendly though and in even though it's in it's early stages of development, it's pretty nice.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions guys! I'll look into all of it
Mr_Gee, I look forward to your dev! I'll be checking for it!

noob needs some help (long... yawn)

I am sorry that the title is so general but I really do need lots of help with my wizard and don't know where to start.
I have had the thing since xmas and have not used it for a single day ! it was an impulse buy and probably a mistake. I realise that now but I'm stuck with a 12 month contract so might as well try and use it.
I work a 12 hour day and simply do not have the time to experiment and play with it. I need someone who has considerable experience with the o2 mini s and is able to explain how to set it up properly and use it effectively and has both the ability and patience to explain it to me. I am happy to pay for this as I see it like any other service which we pay for. I do not expect help for nothing.
Is there anyone prepared to help me with this ?
first I would like to know how I can change and improve my desktop.
second I would like to know how I install TomTom
thanks

Long yawn answered with enthusiasm
Firstly I have an xdaII + 2i and i'm pretty good with pc's, but there are some glaring holes in my knowledge.
My brother has the phone you have, and on his I have installed ttn5 and stripped the rom back so that the phone works much faster.
There's an awful lot of reading for you to do, so seen as i can prob not help much on this forum i'd be glad to help customise and suggest tools and s/w for your ppc up for you so that you'll find it at least fun and maybe use it.
I am currently on my 4th iteration of a Pocket PC phone. I started out way back with an Ipaq 3650 with a softphone, migrated to the 1st T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone (Wallaby, XDA, ect.), spent a year with the Ipaq H6315, and have now been using the new T-Mobile MDA USA (Wizard).
When I had the original XDA (Wallaby), got lured into the "Fix it 'til it breaks" addiction by this site. The "ROM Kitchen" was just too inticing to resist. That first generation platform in its factory state left much to be desired and the enhancements created by this forum and it's members greatly improved the user expierience of those devices.
Now that I have skipped the XDA II, III, and IV devices and all of the jargin associated with these newer generations of this platform and are now using the Wizard, I find myself relegated back to "Noowbie" status with regard to my knowledge of how, when, & why to upgrade my new device.
The usefulness of this forum and the many contributions of its members have contributed to the dificulty in extracting the information one may be looking for. There is simply so much information here to sift through.
I too find it hard to find the time required to assimilate all of the data here.
My device is in it's stock configuration with the exception that I have run the Lockwiz unlocking program. Until I can get my head around what these varius other rom images will do for me, I am going to use the device as it is now, which is a quantum leap in usability compared to the other devices I have been using for the past 4 years.
It probably already exists, ( although burried in countless 30 page threads) but perhaps a sticky Noowbie section that will help us that are time challanged so that we can someday increase our usefulness to this forum.
A problem with your question about your desktop is there is more than one answer.
My answer is to use:
*Wisbar Advanced
--Close apps (you can define exceptions)
--Define a top bar theme
--Define top bar buttons and multiple actions for each
--Show running task icons on top bar
*Wisbar Advanced Desktop plugin
--Define multiple "virtual" taoday screens
--Place shortcuts, buttons and even links to place a phone call on any desktop
--More themes
--Pin items that can be available on all virtual pages
*Pocket Breeze
--A great way to see all PIM items (calendar, task, etc).
--Allows other today plugins to be used in tabs
*Pocket Weather as a tab in Pocket Breeze
*Pocket Alarm
--This does lots of things in addition to phone profiles and includes a today plugin
*SPB Backup and its today plugin
*The SearchToday plugin borrowed from the Treo 700
There is just so much you can do and it has taken quite a while to evolve to this for me. And sometimes I change it
To get the most out of it, you will just need to budget some time.
Wow thanks for the replies everyone.
Phoneguy glad to see that I am not the only one with insufficient time to assimilate all this new technology. So much & so little time ...
Thank you for your offers of help. Perhaps I should make a list of what I would like to do with the mini s and start from there. I'll do that tonight. Perhaps any readers would make some suggestions as to what I can do to make the ppc a more friendly interface

Requesting Soulseek P2P App Port for PPC

I would love to see this wonderful program being ported to WinMo, as there is even a great port of it for the iPhone.
Who's Interested in developing this?
I would've done it by now, but have no prior or current programing experience what-so-ever.
Sweet
I didn't know there was soulseek for the iphone. that is sweet. Lets rally em up boys. Develop WMSLSK. Show em how its done.
Theirs gotta be someone who's at least mildly interested, Please post a reply saying you may give this a chance, or even better a GO.
I wish
I wish I was a programmer. Sadly I only know web design type stuff. If you don't know what soulseek is check out http://www.slsknet.org
This is a great idea!
That's not a bad idea. There used to be an eDonkey client for ppc called Mopiphant, but it was more of a proof of concept. I enjoy using Wuzam to download songs on the go, though lately I've had best results with Opera as they've revamped the site. I also recommend JimmyR.com's mp3 search which is a frontend for searching google for mp3's. Might be two good alternatives until a PPC port of a good P2P program is developed.
Cheers
So I did some searching around and I remembered a program from years back called "Pocket G2" which had it's development ceased for some reason. But I checked it out again and actually found a downloadable copy here: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/4/734745/PocketG2Pro-2401_PPC.ARM.CAB
Anywho, here's the dirt. Pocket G2 requires a 3.3 mb install and Net1.0CF which is included in the hefty install. I couldn't get any searches to work at first, but I looked around and found this Gnutella network server cache http://gcachescan.jonatkins.com/
Just click on a few of the server addresses on that site and copy the url into G2 so you'll be able to search the network. The url's should start with http:// ... and end with .php, though others may work, I haven't yet tested as the setup I have now seems to work fine for me. I did experience a crash when my device powered off and brought up S2U2.. not sure if disabling power management would fix the issue or if there is a conflict there, but I'll keep testing and post an update later. Let me know what you guys think.
Cheers

Ive actually tried Pocket G2. its extremely buggy, always crashing, and even left minimized would eventually terminate.
Ugh, i would totally LOVE to see a Soulseek port for WinMo... I have Winmobile Torrent for my phone already, Making me feel a lot better that my phone can actually be used in advantageous moments. (w00t big words )
Otherwise, i looked around, not really many notable P2P Apps for Mobiles yet... such a shame. Sept wmtorrent.
rebump :-/
Comn peoples, is there not 1 person who is capable of coding this? Should i ask the guy who ported it to iPhone to make a WinMo Port? he probably has no Coding experience for WinMo tho...
ANYONE~~!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
been using g2 for about a year, the alpha and the beta are in the list on my sig.
it does crash on occasion but the beta is fairly stable

Hmm, Should I wait or upgrade now?

Regarding Windows 6.1
Should I just install it now? Or wait til NSPSD4 releases his ROM?
You could install now, the phone is usable and there are just a few adjustments to make it 99%
But if you're not in the mood to do that (reg edits, cabs and files) just wait to the final version. I believe it's worth.
Don't wait. It is faster at booting & some bloat has already been removed. The network wizard cab was a necessity post install for me.
very worth it imo... if you have the default neo tmo rom on there it bogs it down quite a bit... with the clean dev you have more storage space, more ram available due to using less system resources and overall a bettery experience, and its noticeable...
all the fixes for problems have been posted, and theres some goodies that still work fine from freddyreyes.com
I thought that a 4.2 version was in the works that would include all the reg fixes, patches, and programs.
if not can someone create a step by step sheet that simplifies what all the other threads on 3 different sites have come up with? I use my phone for every day stuff, and I cannot be messing with it over 5 days sorting through the mess of posts that I saw. I'm sure I am not the only one that wants this, and or benifit from a condensed all in one guide. I don't want to come off sounding like a stuck up or lazy person, but am looking at the big picture and seeing a very large mess that seriously needs sorted out. and I for one won't do it as I don't know which reg entries are correct or what programs are absolutly needed and cause someone somewhere alot of grief.
I can wait for a new release, but if all the stuff was to be gathered up nice and neat then there would be no need for another release, and save ND4SPD alot of time and trouble.....

MMS fix (which i haven't really figured out) for the clean dev

i'll add as i come up with more, but that should get you started fairly well... N4 is coming out with his soon so no point in me trying to start up a cab with all this included and installed
your welcome
That is a start, but I remember seeing issues like the background screen during calls looked bad, and something with MMS setup and txt reply issues. I see that most of it is not a make or break thing but more of a convenience or eye sore.
thanks for posting stuff that you have so far, but man I seen alot of regedits and once I gather them all I'll see what is really needed. Like I said I want to do this upgrade, but I want everything laid out in front of me so I can dedicate the time needed for the upgrade, cause it is a real pain for me to make time(at least till college ends) to mess with stuff where it is a trial and error situation. Thanks for the start and lets try and get a nice and tidy list going.
Also for the Jbed program there a few fixes out there that I found once, didn't book mark, to fix stuff like the bottom of the screen cutting off and showing the stuff from the background, and performance settings, and other items. I really need a better way of bookmarking crap I really do.....
thanks for the starting run....
P.S. I plan on doing this this weekend.
I just noticed that that is for the clean dev install.... on allshadow there is another install that I was looking at that I want to do that is not the same as the clean dev install. Not sure which one is better, can anyone chime in on that?
BTW I have the shadow version(I know they are the same, just stating)
Ha, I went ahead and upgraded.
i'd wait.
i read that camera and video don't work properly right?
i can care less about those stupid myfaves..
can someone make like a review of he good n the bad?

[X] WApps - A windows mobile "appstore"

I got the idea to make a application finder software for Windows Mobile. Specially designed to HTC Diamond, with many G-apps & games and other nice apps. It's under development now, and i will release one screenshot for you.
This app will not be just an styled IE-frame, like many "appstore" like apps that have been released before.
19. October 2008:
New Screenshot of the start screen.
Development stopped, becouse of the Gecko project.
I think this is a phenominal idea. The idea that went around recently was an internet based solution through ie explorer and it just was not device friendly. To have a device based solution is much more sensable. If you could create a server that developers could upload their most recent programs too that would be the best.
Maybe contact the system admin on this site and see if he will give your program to access the sites FTP server or something. Then a user could use your device based program that would seemlessly connect to the interenet in the back ground, poll the server for software, sort it and place it into a thumb friendly interface on the phone by which it could be sorted into categories of games, utilities, themes, programs etc etc....
Of course the admin would have to create those categories on the site's side and the developers would need to upload their program to the correct one but I think everyone has been in such a need for this that they would be willing to do it without much arm twisting.
Or, you could create device user interface that interacts with Orb.com... But then you would have to get the updates of programs and upload them to ORB for your program to work. But ORB does already have a sorting feature that your user controls on the device could be made to access for sorting etc. It even has a video section that a user could download tutorials of different programs that someone took time to make.
All just ideas. Some you may find good or not. I am excited to see a device based program though. It make user intereaction easier.
Curious G.
yes
Its a good idea, keep working on it
seems to be a nice idea
I like the idea but this really depends on what will be offered / how updated the actual site behind the store application is. Have you had any thoughts on that yet?
i second that.
at this time i browse via opera tho xda to download stuff... but having a app that simplifies things would be even better...
maybe all the downloads here could be managed and put upto "youre" server in an automated way..
I remember seeing this article a few weeks ago about Microsoft creating their own app store.
http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/n.../job-advert-reveals-microsoft-skymarket.phtml
Either way, it's certainly a good idea!!
I forward the notion. An app that has all the apps at hand for easy download by category would kick some serious asss..
If I can help in any way let me know.
Greetings to all.
Love this development. Maybe this progress will open up eyes on new skilful programmers and we will see an increase of good looking apps and games. Not that I don't just love the things going on here at xda. But the more the merrier, right? The only complaint that I might have on this forum is the all the threads with wallpapers and especially the ones with half-naked women...But that's me...
So an app store (or two) is going to make it easier for us to sort out what we are interested in and only that.
If needed count me in I can help develop..
Great idea.
In the spirit of AppToDate, which I found worked very very well. But with YouTube-app like interface, all connected to database were latest apps can get installed.
Great idea!
I'm working to figure out how to connect to MySQL from a windows mobile based device, does anyone here know?
double post****
i think if these two threads could be incorporated
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428480
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433913
that would be a good way to do storage
each developer could use have there own account and then whenever they updated there app they update the wapps link via web or give it like some type of flash capabilities that would be really great
or there could be a generic account that ever one uses to upload too
looks like this is in the works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436127
maybe some collabo might be nice
Nice project!! GoOd Luck!!
If there was a way to advertise this app when it gets made. the diamond would sell millions
Why not just modify a RSS feed reader?

Maybe Sqlite is more accurate for a mobile device ?
And you just download the sqlite file available on a server, this way requests would be very fast.

Yes, every time you start it will update from the web or you can click on a button to update (or an 'update every x minutes' function
please keep up the hard work!!!!! love to see this appstore happen!

Can someone develop this? - Finger friendly EZTask application

Firstly, I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this request, if not, please move this to another section.
I use the standard WM Task program a lot. I keep track of what I want to buy, eg. my weekly groceries as well as things to do. I know I can use ThumbCal to do this but they are all 'date' related.
All I want is just a simple Task program which works like the standard Windows Mobile version but the standard one is not finger friendly. I hate using the stylus when I am pushing my shopping cart.
I do not hv experience in PPC programming, can anyone help to develop something like this? I am sure it will be useful for others who is in the same situation like I do.
The characteristic of the program works similarly like iContact. It has kenetic scroll, can easily add a new task, a huge button to press on when it is completed (light-greyish wording when done). The screen is just a simple example of what I have in mind.
Thanks.
Have you tried any of these??

They are all freeware as well.
BTW gogle is your friend. I did a quick search and came up with TONS of related freeware that does this already.
Wow... thanks! Honestly, I tried googling before but I can't find anything. Will check out what you've suggested.
Look thru quickly, only the first one is finger friendly but the rest needed stylus-access. Will test out then.
