I am trying to install my registered version of SPB Pocket Plus. Just a normal program from the EXE and it passes the cab to my phone. And without even asking me where to install it, it tells me it installed unsuccesfully. Any ideas?
A couple of questions:
1) Is the device running 6.1
2) Do you have Mobile Shell installed?
3) Did you previously install and remove pocket plus and then attempt a reinstall?
My reasons are:
1) I'm was running SPB Insight and got a response from SPB that Insight doesn't play well with 6.1. I'm starting to wonder if other SPB products don't play well with 6.1 either such as Pocket Plus and Shell as sometimes these programs act funny on device also.
2) Just throwing this out there but if you have it installed try removing Shell, installing Pocket Plus and then put Shell back on. I tried installing the HTC calculator and I couldn't until I removed the SPB products (Shell and Pocket Plus).
3)If you did a removal then perhaps some component of Pocket did not clear out of the registry. When attempting to re-install it's seeing the component.
Hope that helps...
Yeah, it seems that when most people have something SPB-related on their devices, problems ensue. I unistalled Shell and PocketPlus (don't ask why I used both- I'm an app junkie) and installed HTC's HomePlugin. My device and I are both much happier as a result.

I'm contemplating going the same route also - getting tired of the shell32.exe errors.

I have Both Shell and PocketPlus, on my 6.1 phone and I have NO problems, they worked with DCD's 3.2.6 and Verizon's MR1...
Do you have the latest version of both programs? if not, that could be the cause...
I also use SPB Backup, so I haven't had to manually re-install a program in months and I flash and reflash (for various reasons) at least twice a month...anyway I know most people after obtaining a program hate to pay for the newest version but its an investment you won't regret...
But on the other hand I tried HTC Home plugin and I liked it so either way you can't go wrong...

I started yesterday working with my new i-mate Jasjar, and, already, I am lost in so many bugs and bad issues.
1- ActiveSync 4 does not support backup/restore of the device. I know this is a "known" issue, but it is a real bad one!
2- Some programs cannot be installed at all, like SPB PocketPlus. On another hand, all task switchers (and program closers) make problems, and end up by soft resetting the device.
3- A big problem: I cannot uninstall any of the programs I installed, whether on the main memory or the storage card, whether by using ActiveSync (from the desktop), or Remove Programs (in Settings) or any third party software, like SKTools!
4- Synchronizing through ActiveSync is not always straight forward. Sometimes the device is not recognized, or, when recognized, synchronize cannot start, or, when it does start, it never ends.
Did any of you experience any of these problems?
Any suggestions, or we have to wait for a ROM upgrade ?
Spb pocketplus may not be supported by wm05?.Perhaps the next release will work though as i'm getting either the wizard or universal so I hope it does!
personally i wouldnt expect software that worked fine on windows 3.1 to work just as fine on xp.
bugs are ok, it makes the patches more anticipated, and of course, with out this kind of feedback sofware houses wouldn't always reveal the issues before software is released.

dude all of these are software (activesync and windows 5 related) none are related to jasjar...the jasjar is the most stable imate device EVER
yes there are issues between the new active sync and windows and firewall and the antivirus that you run but these are Microsofts faults not jasjars...
to answer your questions
1) this is a bummer.. i really wish they had given the option of backing up device..anywyas thats why you have ppc softwares that do backup..the one working on wm5 is sunnysoft backup..
2)most of the softwares lag behind.. wm5 is out but not all software makers have updated their products..NOTE AGAIN THIS IS NOT JASJARS FAULT..its YOURs you can wait 6 more months by then spbsoftware should have a pocketplus that works on wm5
3)dude again old applications like sktools dont work on wm5... if you want you can use pocket mechanic and memmaid ..they work fine.. for task manager i use dinarsoft handy sweitcher..not only its an excellent application but it works on wm5 aswelll...
4)you have your firewall and antivirus software and to blame for this...not jasjar..for me i had to FORMAT my laptop and install activesync before i turned on firewall and installed an antivirus program...only then did active sync work..and its flawless now.. oen word my personal experience trendmicro2002 doesnt work with AS however 2005 version of pcillin works with its personal firewall set to off...
hope i cleared up a few misconceptions for you
Well,
1) That is annoying. I hadn't noticed that, but I'm sure it'll be addressed in future...
2) As zohaer21 says, that's purely because we have the latest, greatest bleeding edge technology, and the software developers have yet to catch up. (In the meantime, HandySwitcher is working perfectly on my device, no bugs, no crashes, just what it's meant to do!)
3) Have you tried installing anything from a .cab file to see if you still have a problem uninstalling? I'd guess ActiveSync is probably your problem...
4) Can't really help there...I'd suggest removing Activesync completely from your PC and installing it again from scratch. Personally I'm not using the bundled version of ActiveSync (4.1?) because I had an old 4.0.??? already but I don't think I've heard of anyone else with that issue yet so I'd assume it's a problem with your PC installation?

no, but you'd expect software that worked on windows 2000 to work on XP. Why compare something with an 11 year gap to something with a 2 year gap?

True, but MS changed WM5 significantly from WM2003, many more changes than Windows 2000 -> Windows XP. The biggest changes were (1) persistent storage and new memory handling and (2) WM5's compatibility with MS Smartphone apps. I am not surprised a good number of apps aren't working.
By the way, SPB's PocketPlus looks like it works with WM5 because they have screen shots on their web site of it running on a Windows Mobile 5 OS. But it may just not be compatible with the JasJar yet.

It does not depend on that gap but on what they did durring that gap. If you do not change structural things, backwards compatibility can last a long time.
Actually the gap between WM2003SE and WM5 is quite large for some software developers. Notably some applications that synchronise databases (TimeTTRacker, Commontime mNotes) have to be rewritten from the ground up, even though we are only talking about a 1 year gap. Microsoft did change some crucial things, even if it does not show at first glance.
sorry, my post came across a bit bolshy. It wasn't intended.
I meant that developers would hope that they wouldn't have to re-write their apps every few years. I like the changes, because it adds more structure and makes it more of a uniform platform, but we've got to hope that they don't change these very often.
It would help if MS supplied the emulators for WM5 free of charge. (I'm yet to find any)
No worries

SPB Pocket Plus version 3 works just fine on an i-Mate JasJar. Older versions of Pocket Plus will not work on WM5 devices of any kind, so upgrade to Version 3 and you can install it on your jasJar. I'm running it on mine.

Correct!
It does work under WM5.0 Just make sure you are on version 3
If you are on Version 3 and still refuses to install, copy the CAB file over the device and execute/install from there.

SPB Pocket plus does install and work. I had to do a hard reset after I initially used my Jasjar and everything worked right. Like email accounts etc. What I would like to see is a program like gb tweak that keeps the gprs allways alive. But so for there is nothing out there. NO problems with my JasJar at all.

Is anyone using SPB Diary on the Universal, I have it running on the Orange M5000, but i have a problem with it. It runs fine but then the icons down the left hand side that let you change to contacts/calender etc dissapear. As soon as these dissapear every second the program memory goes down by 0.03MB until it is all gone and the phone locks up.
You can even go into memory and watch it ticking down. To resolve the issue i can turn off SPB Diary and start it up again, but thats only if i catch it before all the memory has gone, and this does not free up the memory that has been used.
Has anyone seen this before or got a solution, i really like the program, but obviously won't be able to continue using it if it has this problem.
I Use SPB Pocket Plus (current beta) but did use the released version.
I personally dont like Diary much unless as a plug in to the SPB PP application, to keep the tabs across the top simple and efficient and not take up to much real estate.
I also use SPB Weather, and also run it as a plug in to SPB PP.
I have never encountered the problem that you are referring to, even when I did run it as a seperate application by itself.
Do you have the latest release?
Also note that I dont think it promotes Diary as being WM2005 release, it just happens to work.
I too was a user of Spb Diary. Switched meanwhile to SBSH Pocketbrreze with Contactbreeze and iLauncher. The perfect combination IMO

Yes i have downloaded the latest build, as far as i'm aware, and this is apparently compatiable with Windows Mobile 5
Well i went for SPB Diary as i was buying SPB Finance at the same time so i got a small discount, for the same reason i did not test the software before buying it!
I will probably look at breeze if this fails to work out.
Pocket Breeze has far, far more options, and infinitely better support via the SBSH Forums, However, it is currently slower than SPB Diary (especially for screen rotation). Hopefully the new release of PB due out soon will solve this issue though...
I must say i was quite impressed with Pocketbreeze after looking at it on their site, I've had a response back from SPB support that hinted towards the fact it may be because i have installed it onto the SD Card, can you install pocketbreeze onto the SD Card with no problems?

You can install it to SD-card and it will work fine. However, it will put a couple of smallish library files in main memory, and they should stay there, otherwise you may have problems with the Today screen when the Universal is turned on - since the SD-card will be powered down and take a while to power on again.
I require my VARIO to have the option to boot in SafeMode. So far I've done this with Spb Pocket Plus - but since it is such a memory hog I want to get rid of it.
So far I only found two tools that offer SafeMode:
Spb Pocket Plus ( which I want to get rid of )
mCubeSafeMode or SafeMode 1.02 ( not WM5 compatible, installed fine but did not work for me )
So what other choices do I have? What other ( hopefully tiny tool ) will let me enter safemode at boot time?
Help is appreciated. Best regards.
Slightly off topic, but do all of these programs provide the same form of "safe mode"? And if so, what does that consist of? Safe Mode is not an OS feature, so I'm curious what cross over there is.
V
Sometimes programs are unable to be un-installed because some parts are loaded, or maybe a newly installed program makes trouble.
So you simply enter SafeMode and are then able to un-install these "troublemakers". Since I try out alot of stuff I don't want to miss this great feature.
I'm not sure, but what I've noticed from Spb's safemode, it disables added today screen items and startup processes. There may be more that it does too.

Yep, thats what it does. So any chances that another program will do this?
There's a buzzdev thread about this. Someone posted a file in the last post. I didn't try it out because I have that feature with pocket plus, but you may want to try it.
http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=59&func=view&id=15076&catid=26
If you use memmaid and look at services these 'programs' are moved to the top of the service order list, (therefore they are the first things the OS runs)... they basically have a small gui that says "you want to run safe mode" and if you say yes... they stop all the other services from starting, stop STARTUP items from running, and don't let any of the dlls load for today plugins.
The problem with mCubeSafeMode on WM5 is that services have to be certified signed to run in WM5, so even though it installs, its not allowed to run at boot time. I would have thought though that the un-certified builds on buzz/xda-dev would get around that?
I have a Jam now, no WM5 for me
Yep mCubeSafeMode would be great if it would only work with WM5 - but so far only Pocket Plus is able to do a SafeBoot on WM5 that I am aware of. I hoped I only missed another tool, but sad to say it seems to the only working version for WM5
SPB Pocket Plus

I know! Thats what I said in my first posting - but I want to get RID OF POCKET PLUS - that is the whole reason for this thread!
DreamBoxer: Are you running a certification-free WM5 ROM though? I actually talked to the mCubeSafe author about this, and the belief is services might actually need a Microsoft certificate, but he wasn't sure.... if it doesn't work with a cert-free ROM then I guess he was correct...
I had the same problem when I had a WM5 device I despirately wanted to NOT run SPB (too much bloat) but ultimately its the only one that had it...
You could install SPB and hunt around with memmaid and the registry to try and figure out how to just set the services only and remove everything else. You would have to install the service program, (maybe using memmaid) and move it up the service list to be first... in theory it should be do-able...

Hi,
Yet another WinMo newbie here in the Topaz forum. I've not long moved over from having several Symbian phones. Jeezo is this platform difficult at times compared to Symbian, but some of the results are worth it when you look through the post your screens thread. Decided I wanted some of that goodness and go for the easiest option and install SPB Mobile Shell. I turned off tf3d before installing, but though it appears on my screen, nothing works on it, no touchiness, nada!
Anyone else have this problem, or give an insight how to fix this?
.
Using stock rom, major mods. Thanks in advance
Hi - did you try soft reset? Or turning it off, removing the battery, then powering up again? Kind of a mantra to follow when installing some apps that hook into the operating system I've kinda got used to it!
Yip, done all that. It's kinda weird as I had it a while ago when I first got the phone and thought tf3d was much better, so I uninstalled it.
The interface is there, but it doesn't do anything.
I used to have mob shell 3 but got rid coz it was a pain having to work my way thru those extra layers/menus to get at stuff. Found it buggy, too, needing resets all the time
works fine for me
even im useing SPB mobile shell 3, IphoneScreenEmulator (iphoneToday) - WisbarAdvance+Desktop+ FE Widges(samsungSoftware Emulator) all at ones installed on my TD2 (im changing the Emulators as i want)
sometimes im funny to use SPB , sometimes IphoneToday, sometimes FE Widges , sometimes TFL3
(windows mobile 6.1 still =/ )
no bugs
no lags
everything's working fine ^_^
i just installed it earlier today and its pretty cool. though at some parts its kinda laggy but it is still great. i noticed that i cant get to the 3d message viewer from the home screen... i have to go through launcher and all that to get to it. is there away to set it to where i can i get it from the homescreen? also is there any other features to use on spb mobile shell?? trying to learn more about it . thanks in advance!

People who know of me would trust my opinion, because I am a huge supporter and deeply involved with SPB and their software, however, I think you should stick with the trial only. I have rights to the software, but I don't have it installed anymore. I first tried it out, but I just didn't find that it was able to replace everything that Flo3D had to offer. Definitely use the trial for the full time period before purchasing.
