Please forgive me if this has already been covered but I tried searching for a while and had no luck on the issues.
First, I'm having trouble hooking up to routers but can hook up to my buddies phone when he is tethering. It didn't do this before but just recently. I flashed Sparksmod Rom and still had the issue, then tried the Gingerbread CM7 and still can't hook up. It says obtaining ip address then just cycles.
Second, I got a 4G phone hoping I would get better service at my work, but it doesn't seem like the signal will penetrate through most buildings, but my buddy has Sprint and gets 3G and 4G. I realize this is a different band but after I saw the data throttling hack I didn't know if I had a chance.
I would greatly appreciate any input, and will remove this post if anybody directs me to the issue post elsewhere.

if i remember right data throttling was for those who received a message from tmobile saying they used to much data and i think tmo's 4g isnt so great right now depending on where you are, i get 4g sometimes and sometimes its just 3g. and about the routers i recommend trying to restart the router or manually add the router. good luck on fixing your problem
One of the best things about Tmo is that they offer wifi calling for free, but obviously that won't work if you can't connect to wifi. If you can't get wifi working you should revert back to stock and do a warranty exchange.

Thanks for the input. I've honestly tried everything router wise.

are you overclocked? you may need to apply the wifi fix if you are.
The overclock I'm running is packed in the rom. (Gingerbread cm7) Ill try to search the wifi fix thread. Thanks much!

It will connect to my router fine then I can load a webpage but after that nothing loads but it remains connected. My S3 and note 10.1 work fine and everything else does too
I have the latest sky hub router and I have tried different routers but still same problem

What's the behaviour like if you disabled WiFi and just used mobile data?
Yeah its fine but I hardly get 3g signal inside where I am thats why I need wifi

THere are a few reports of incompatible routers
I'd suggest to try a different router to see if the WIFI works

Ye try a new router or check for a Firmware update for your router, all the issues I am seeing with WIFI are incompatibility between the S4 wifi chip remember it now has AC standard included as well as N. In most cases a router that is less than a year old should have a firmware update older than that your mileage will vary.
Well it connects to the router and usually works to load a web page or fb once n then stops working but today its been working ok apart from once or twice so I doubt its the router if today its been working ok today mostly but I could be wrong

How do i share my wifi connection from my note 3 to my laptop? when i try apps, it just disables the wifi, thus defeating the whole sharing process. can anyone help?
Your 4G internet is shared using wifi. you cannot use wifi for both.

I don't have 4g data, i am just using it as a wifi right now, i want to share that wifi with my other devices, not possible huh?
Sorry no. What WiFi point is your phone receiving internet from? Y not just connect your computer to that same router?

If this physically works out for you, place the laptop within range of the router and host your laptop as a wireless access point/wifi via ICS(internet connection sharing) within Windows to your Android phone
So it would be like Router ---> Laptop ---> Android piggybacked where the phone is the one not in range of the Wifi
Another option is to upgrade your router/laptop to a longer range. If you're on N, upgrade to Ac if your wallet allows it
or just buy a Wifi range extender.
seems a bit sublime to be trying to use a mobile device which is likely to move all over the place as a range extender - when the problem that needs to be solved involves distance & orientation relative to fixed stations.
Hey Guys
I accidentally found that Galaxy S8/S8+ can be used as wifi repeater. All you have to do is just connect to your WIFI router via wifi, then enable mobile hotspot/tether and then the wifi hotspot that's created it actually routes traffic via the WIFI router and not via your Cellular Service Provider, just give it a try
I hope it can be of use to some of us here
Cheers
Some plans limit or charge extra for tethering/hot spot. Make sure to check your carrier's/plan's rules.

Its called wifi sharing, and yes its pretty nifty especially when using paid wifi in hotels and such.
