TF3d specifics on HD - Touch HD General

ok, stupid question, but seeing as i still have an old trinity i dont know any better- with TF3D, when typing an email/sms etc and i flip the phone to landscape to type better on the keyboard, does the screen flip around automatically as well? i remember reading that it did for some functions but not all..... is this true?
reason i ask is that if it does i will get the HD instead of the touch pro/xperia, as the screen is plenty big enough for a decent keyboard, without adding thickness that comes with a keyboard phone....

Hi
in the vidoe it flips the screen in serveral funktions. If the HD has that sensor I guess it will work with e-mail and so on. Where did you read that it does not flip in all functions?

If your asking if it has a G- sensor ... I havn't seen or heard anything about it from the specs. But I guess check the videos and see if it the screen flips when you physically flip the device.

it does have the acceleratormeter aka g-sensor and only works for certain programs ie.. pictures/opera. but like the gsen progam for the diamond, it can and will probably made compatible for the TOUCH HD. search you tube for gsen program for the diamond that allows the screen to rotate when it's turn.

I thought so I mean how could it not. lol

Is Xperia a good Office-mobile?

I now have Hermes/TyTN and are used to and want be able to navigate everything office-related quickly with the keyboard (mostly Outlook Mobile and the ”File explorer” (Word-documents)
So more specifically (but feel free to answer in general terms as well):
- Is the above easy and quick?
(Especilly concerning Outlook Mobile)
- Is it possible to customize a button shorcut to the ”File explorer”?
- I noticed that the keyboard lacks soft buttons and directional arrows - how does that work out?
- Do Word Mobile documents open quickly?
I'm thinking about buying a Kaiser/TyTN II after a litte disapointing test of Touch Pro, but would like to enjoy the fun, exciting and practical things, like Google maps, of a Touch Phone as well.
/Dan
-There are 2 soft keys you can customize
-The D-pad/Optical scroll will still be usable in landscape mode and will be rotated so that it works correctly.
-It one of the fastest phones out there so yes they'll open quickly.
Thanks!
I´m afraid it lead to some more questions :s.
Okey, now I think I can see the scroll wheel which I guess works for instead of vertical arrows, but what about sideways?
By soft keys I meant the keys above the keyboard (se attachment), which one´s did you mean?
The reason I ask if it´s slow with opening Word-documents is that Touch Pro, also one of the fastest, took 15-25 sec. to open a 50kB doc. which is ridiculous because they usually are 150-200kB.

You can set those two keys to anything you want on just about any windows mobile device so setting that to file explorer shouldn't be problem at all.
When I was talking about the optical scroller, I was talking about the Xperia. I does not have a scroll wheel. You know those little mouse pads on labtops. Well it has a mini (sorta) one of those for scrolling on the bottom of the screen or you can use it as a D-Pad.
The touch pro has touchflo3d that may slow application loading time because it causes over head. On the standard today screen the Xperia should fly with opening word docs.

May I ask what disappointed you in the Touch Pro?
Except slow opening of word files?
Some clarifications:
- The two soft buttons.
There are two physical buttons below the display that you can use or you can just touch the buttons on the screen itself.
When the keyboard is open there are no physical buttons on the keyboard so you have to touch the screen or use the two buttons below (now on the side of) the screen.
- Directional Keys
Around the optical mouse there are 4 directional keys that work both with the keyboard open and closed. They work fine and they logically rotate with the screen orientation.
- Optical mouse
As Kloc said it's not a scroll wheel but works similar to a touch pad on a laptop.

I don't know about navigating to Outlook quickly, but 3 panels carry a shortcut to outlook - the SE Panel, the Spb Panel, and the Windows Panel... and from the latest videos i have seen, it is fast.
There is also another video on youtube where they open various office documents on the device including spreadsheets, word document, etc. and although i did not care to notice, but i am quite certain that it was not slow. i'll try to hunt down that video and post the link here.
Hi again (after sleep and work)
Ok, now I understand which soft buttons you guys mean, I was only refering to the ones that TyTN (see pic) has in landscape mode above the keyboard (very practical). I guess I´ll have to use the touch screen for those commands.
Thanks for the clarification about the directional keys I hope they are quick to work with in keyboard ”mode” as you imply.
And msalmank, if you find the link I´ll be happy to see it, if not one of you have direct experience with opening Word-documents. On Touch Pro I actually turned off the Touch Flo 3D and it didn´t become quicker (not much anyway). Slower than my 2 year old HTC TyTN.
Why I was dissapointed in Touch Pro (except slow opening of Word-documents)?
(I realize that the perspective here is narrow, but as said, I use the PDA mostly in this narrow office-way. Constantly and quickly changing calender-appointments and writing in different Word-documents. Besides that TP does have some great stuff in it!)
- The input method with auto suggestion of Words is really crappy (I don´t know it it´s the same in all WM6.1 phones(?))
- Low sound-signals for reminders and SMS
- Low battery time (but I´we seen completely different opinions on this matter so I don´t know what´s up with that)
- Unproportionaly big menus when using the keyboard in landscape mode (might be fixable?)
I just might buy the Xperia and test it and send it back if I´m not pleased. That might be the simplest solution. But buying the first couple of weeks is always risky, isn´t it.
I'm a PC, and this is my office!

Xperia X1 Constant Crashing

This is something i've never experienced with a windows mobile phone and i've had a ton with much worse hardware. My Xperia has crashed like 25x today and i just got it this morning. Granted i've been adding a lot of software and playing around with the device but the way it crashes is what i don't like. It just shuts off and restarts abruptly. It seems like it has to do with this panel system. When i press the panel button the phone crashes or restarts. Sometimes it just works fine but not often. Is anyone else seeing that? I have the touch 3d installed as well.
Mine has yet to crash. Although I haven't installed hardly any SW. Here's what I have installed:
Touch HD Keyboards
FlashLite3.1
SPB Panel
MissingSync
XperiaTweak1.6
I'm trying to take the software installs slow. I'm still feeling out the device and WM too.
Have you tried removing TF3D? I'm holding out until the bugs get worked out.
Yea i just did that and it seems stable now. I think i have to agree with u. It has too many bugs but it was nice to use for a second :-D I wonder why windows freaks out from this software.
I'm really hoping someone comes out with a the utility that asks you how u want connect ur device when you plug it in. I miss that from my touch pro.
i had the same problems! After i got rid of TouchFlo 3D all was fine again, so there seem to be issues with that.
Uninstall TouchFlo3D. For sure is the guilty
Dani
As a lot of people stated here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428351&page=21
TFL3D works well in X1 until you press the switch panel button. So until things are ironed out it is either TFL3D or panels.
its the touch flow 3d! it happenned to me
Well its official :-D Touch flo3D is gone. I wonder if its possible to skin spb mobile shell panel. I really hate the look of the one that is on here.
I found TF3D unstable until I installed the soft keyboards from the Touch HD. Not had a crash since.

hm thats interesting, can anybody confirm that ?
I had the keyboards installed and its not that TF3D was unstable it seems that TF3d makes the panels unstable. I think if u never press the panel button then u should be able to keep TF3D working decently

Any other comparisons to the Touch Pro. I like the X1 but thought I would check out a Fuze when it hits stores on Nov 11th. I'll still be within my return window for Expansys. I do like my X1 so far though.

There is actually a very nice TF3D skin for SPB Mobile Shell.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the skin has been named Touch Diamond Skin, its not WVGA resolution either so it probably wouldn't look all that great.
Here is a link if you want to give it a shot..obviously it doesn't work like TF3D does, but you can see in the video on the page is "similar."

Hmm i have a few comparisons but they are probably stuff u already know. The touch pro keyboard is a million times better. Its way more comfortable. The touch pro light sensor management is better as well. I like touch flow 3d more than i like the panels. The volume rocker on the touch pro is way better too. Speaking of volume the speaker volume of touch pro is MUCH LOUDER. I can't hear anything when someone is on speaker phone with the xperia.
The xperia's triangular call and end buttons are too small for my fat fingers i find myself hitting the panel button quite a bit when i try and make a call. Other than those things i think the xperia is the greatest phone i've ever used. I still have my touch pro and i'm gladly selling it. Oh and i would say get the touch pro or change the keyboard mapping or something cause the stupid fuze gets rid of the ctrl key which means no more cool shortcuts which is something i loved. Then again u do get an ok key it all depends on ur use.
Hi, I have also experienced the frequent crashing of my X1 when running TF3D and then switching to Panels using the PanelButton.
This is my current work around for this problem:
1. I have assigned my LeftButton to call a Mortscript that toggles TF3D on or off.
The script first kills of the Panelmanager.exe process and then launches TF3D.
2. When I want to switch panels I first press my LeftButton to kill of TF3D and then
press the PanelButton as usual.
It seems that my crashes mainly occur when TF3D and Panelmanager.exe are running at the same time.
To use the script just make a .mscr file with the following:
# Toggle TouchFlo 3D in HTC Diamond
bool = ProcExists("Manila.exe")
bool1 = ProcExists("PanelManager.exe")
If (bool1)
Kill("PanelManager.exe")
EndIf
If (bool)
Kill("Manila.exe")
If (NOT WndActive("Desktop"))
Show("Desktop")
EndIf
Else
Run("Manila.exe")
EndIf
Please note I found the idea to toggle TF3D from this thread:

Better integration of Touch 3D interface for X1

I know it might be asked a bit much, but...
...on the one hand I like the Touch 3D, but what I really hate is that is blocks all of my today screen. Where do I put phoneAlarm for example? This application is just essential!
Would it be possible to extract the single parts of the Touch 3D application (e. g. contacts, email, program launcher, etc.) and convert these into separate panels for the X1?
Alternatively, would it be possible to get rid of the home screen of Touch 3D, only leaving the slide bar and the other screens? That way we could use the today plug-ins we like and keep the slide bar on the bottom to easily access weather, contacts, etc.
I am not a programmer and have no clue about how much or little effort that would be or if it is possible at all.
Here in that section you can find how to transform the entire Touch 3D HD into a single panel...check the main posts!
This might be helpful:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2878314&postcount=3
Thanks you two for your reply.
I already read through the posts and tried Touch 3D as Panel and as application only.
Having it run as a panel is just not convenient as most of the time I tend to use my windows today screen anyhow.
And to run it as an applications kills of my own today screen.
Actually all I want is:
Resize the home screen of Touch 3D so that at least one other application fits on the today screen?
(Ideally remove everything from the home screen of Touch 3D apart from the slide bar)
I use a program called secondtoday to switch between touchflo and other plugins. It works very well. search for it to find the details

any auto-rotate text messaging programs out there?

Hi, I am the new owner of a touch hd and wanted to know what my best option was for landscape texting and if their was any auto-rotate landscape texting available? even if their is no auto-rotate, can anyone direct me to my best option for landscape texting? thanks
Derrick
Hi !! 24 hours HD owner and I adore it. Actually I found a cool application called Gyrator2 , it switches to landscape and rotate screen depending on how you hold the device ( like iphone ). Check it : http://gyrator.brins0.net/?page=downloads
you can try the new GSen from the Touch Pro 2: http://www.fuzemobility.com/gsen-now-enabled-in-more-apps/
you can add individual applications to the list as well but it works on most applications without any need to add more: http://www.mobilitydigest.com/gain-more-control-of-the-gsen-apps-tp2-edition/
I've used this on a Touch HD and it works
I have tried gsen.
At the moment im am using Dutty's 2.1 Extreme ROM and far as i know manilla should work in lanscape too.
Rotating Manilla seems to be disabled in gsen and i read that i need to add some registry keys in HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\.
I dont really understand how that keys need to look like to make it work. Does anyone else had success?
Edit:
Just found out how it works.
You could also try ChangeScreen...
You could also try ChangeScreen which is my personal favourite as I find it easier to configure than Gyrator:

Touch API?

Is there an API that a developer can use to make use of the touch part of the Pro/Diamond (and other manufacturer touch devices)? I just installed VS 2008 Pro and can't seem to find much info on making use of the touch i.e. detecting finger swipes etc.

AFAIK, no manufacture has released anything about gestures.
You can try and recognise gestures using your own code.
In C++, WM_LBUTTONDOWN (screen is touched), WM_LBUTTONUP (screen touch is released) and WM_MOUSEMOVE (screen touch point e.g. finger moves) are the touch events. Each one of those supplies the x and y coordinates, but things like "finger flicked from bottom to top" have to be coded by you.
If by the "touch part", you mean the capacitive panel at the bottom, then this and this should be of interest.
This was posted earlier over in dev and hacking, not sure if it anything like what you want and unfortunately it is also not free, looks good though!

This is almost what I'm looking for but I'm going to try and make my own touch friendly interface before I pay Maybe if it works, I'll release the code for free. What my app needs is something like HTC's album where finger flicks bring up the next/previous photo.
