udK Syrius R0 or udK Diamond R8? - Touch Cruise ROM Development

This is my first time flashing my device...
I would just like to ask, in general...
Which of the both is better?
I've seen the pics, and heck yes, I want Syrius R0...
but due to the buglist, I'm leaning more over to Diamond R8...
Which would you guys recommend?
(I already downloaded HardSPL, since I read that I must install this first, and I already downloaded the 2 ROMS..., Just 1 stupid question besides the main one, ... how do I make a backup of all my things?)
Thanks in advance!

I would recommend PIM-Backup for storing all your old stuff.
And concerning your main question, i'am thinking about the same question since a week, and i finally think that it would be the best to wait for Syrius R1, when most of the bugs are eliminated, cause it looks hell pretty

Thanks for the quick reply...
I shall wait for R1 then..
In the meantime, would flashing Diamond R8 would be a good idea?
or should i just hang to the default stuff until R1?

I do not know how long it will take until R1.
I have flashed my device with udK diamond R4 some months ago and its very good, so I would say JUST DO IT!

*has butterflies in his stomach*
:O

Syrius R0 is much faster than R8 (according to my experience).
As far as the bug list go... it all depends on the applications that you are using.
Personally, I use my device for Phone, eMail, Picture, Txt, watch videos that I convert, WiFi, Weather and Opera - very rarely YouTube (just for the heck of it). I use it on USA T-Mobile with out 3G.
As far as the above mentioned applications, I do NOT have any issues what so ever.
I do not use GPS, BT and any other stuff. So I do not have any issues with the bugs. I have a KickAss UI and a very fast OS. So I am happy with Syrius R0.
Comparing the SR0 and DR8: SR0 has a better QWERTY keyboard, better Phone dialer, Btter UI, Manila 2D with animated Weather, Much better camera and Picture dailer feature in favs is awesome. You choose the picture will opens the all the available communication optioins (Home, cell, wrk, txt, mail) for the contact and the call button under the pic will call the number you have assinged it to.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response..
I decided to flash R8, it worked, and its great, i restored my old crap with that backup program, and its just nice...
cant wait for R1...

The R8 is much better than the R0

From my experience there is no question that the new R0 (even with bug list) is far superior to R8 - in speed, functionality and design.
Sure there are bugs, but none of them are major and they don't get in the way of my daily operations.
Loving R0 and not looking back

What about using TomTom7 with R0? Anyone tried? Any problems?
I'm just getting more and more leaned to it!

Great! So i'm busy for the next hour...have to try R0!

don´t know why everybody´s complaining bout R0, it works fine, except the fact that there are, like in maaany other cooked ROMs some bugs. But, as udK posted some days ago, the major ones should be out of the way now, and with R1 you´ll definetely get a top polaris-rom.
So, my conclusion on this: flash R0, experiment with your apps and post the bugs you´ve found here in the corresponding thread.

Martin

Yes I have listed bugs but they're nothing to do with making or receiving calls......... The R0 ROM has bugs but to be honest, they're not major, though everyone's different, what might not bother me may bother someone else, we all have different requirements. Most people seem to be happy with putting up with the bugs until the next release and I agree with them, I've tried most ROMs that have been released and the udK ones are always the best, in my opinion.

ForumUser,
On the contrary, I think that's great contribution errors, may well be correct.
I personally had a problem with the sound, I just say to me that the R8 is the least mistakes is all ROM UdK

What applications would you like to see in his next version?
What applications you'd like to see removed on his next version?
Important note: This is a thread NOT meant to diminish anyone or his skills, or the other way around. It's meant for people to compare the pros and cons on their ROMs, helping them make better ones, and helping the users decide which one they see most fit to their purposes.
Everyone is voting, but no one has yet given any reasons why to like or dislike someone's ROM.
Come on people, I bet they want feed back, and so do we!
I only used bepe's and udK's ROMs, and for a very short period. I think bepe's ROMs are great because he makes 4 different versions with different applications in them. Right now I'm using latest Vega R1 from udK and liking it, but I'm looking forward some minor bug fixing (like the italian text in the cube) in next R2.
I tried many swtos, bepe and udk ROMs...
Result for me is that udKs ROM is without erros, fast and very stable
Ok, after trying all of them i cocluded to udK's R1 because apart from the fact that it is very fast and stable, it has a different design and looks than all the other common ROMs.
I prefer to see something new except that full-light-skinny, etc!
I Would suggest cookers to have a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390543

Indeed, there is, but with particular ROM and not the latest ones. I created this one so people could express how they feel with the ROMs they've been using over the time. And especially for people to discuss what they like more and/or less in the ROMs, so it can help cookers do their job even better, and to help the new guys (like myself) understanding what they should want on the ROMs they install.
The builds, the applications, the stability of the OS, everything should be discussed here. Even though there are hundreds of other threads to do so.

I Agree with athanaso..some new ideas like TOM..
I prefer Infido but he's not in the choices nice, essential and fast ROM.
So i voted Bepe
I agree with new stuff and appearance, if they don't affect the overall performance of the device. It's always great to see a new face on our handheld.

I'm sorry about that. I only made the Poll with the top 5 contributors on this board (at least the most recent ones). I also tried a ROM previous to bepe and udK's, but don't know who made it. A friend gave it to me, and it was nice. But I prefer the udK's.
On the bepe's ROM I tried, 0.67 Opera, I had an issue with the Opera installed which didn't let me Zoom In / Zoom Out more than once. It's a fixed Zoom, and sometimes I need to Zoom just a bit and I couldn't. Also tried to install the latest Opera Mobile on that ROM, but couldn't get that feature to work.
Since udK's does not provide Opera browser, when I installed the latest version, it gave me the option to Zoom at will. That was the main reason I stuck with it.
Btw, since you people test a whole lot of ROMs, can you please tell me how do you backup stuff from one to another? I tried to backup email accounts and GPRS connections once, from one ROM to the next one, but couldn't get it to work properly. Is there a tool which is compatible with any ROM?
Thanks.
Voted 4 bepe for the qualtity and the versatility of his ROM.
He has 4 lines of ROM in 5 Languages.
My vote would go to udK cuz the ROM is a lil better than bebe's...but there is only 1 version in only 1 language

UDK's rom is super fast...but I use bepe's simply because I don't like the soft new key and also when you press on the email icon on home screen it goes to messaging and not direct to email like on bepe's rom...Have I know how to change that I'd probably go with UDK's ROM

I am using udk's R8. (Thank you udk for a great job). some illustrations are better than comments.
Free Storage : 94:00 MB Free Program : 47:39 MB
Have of course added plenty of softs. All work fine. A real pleasure. ROM is slightly slower than R9 which I uninstalled awaiting the reviewed and corrected one. I change ROMs several times a month just for my pleasure, .

comparison list of cooked Roms wanted

I kind of loosing the overview of what Rom contains what feature and what unsolved bugs.
I'd like to have an overview table/chart where one can see all features for each ROM
Beside this, I get the impression none of the cooked ROMs is working bug-less. It seems to be a neverending problem which eventually get forgotten when new XDAs coming out /
Yep, I second that...but I think the best answer to this is: Test yourself, flash 3 different ROMs and compare your own. Nobody here knows which apps you are using, which version, which language. There are many things which can cause problems, so it´ll be best for you to test each of the ROMs for a week or so.
For me M-Amine is quite a good ROM, I think maybe udK Syrius R1 (+the fixes, see extra thread) is even better..but as I said: compare your own, even if its time-intense.

Martin

reasons???
I tried almost all roms except ANIME now i'm with TouchIT 3.6 and its great
Maybe we can make some form so ppl can fill and then some1 will put it all together so we have table of each rom speed bugs etc.
Maybe something like this:
ROM | WM VER | RADIO VER | STUFF NOT WORKING | FIX AVAILABLE/NOT | SPB BENCHMARK ................. something like this
Its like heads of columns, would be great in excel or some thing like this then you'll collect all reports and make one file
@ bnm7bnm: would be a lot of work..and who do you think would do this work ? I suggested something similar when I came new to this forum, but nobody of the chefs showed any interest, I just got offended and was advised just to read the threads xD

@Olioaglio - you are spot on with what you say. Perhaps there are many more Hermes and Wizards in use so a bigger user base and therefore more developers? I can think of at least 4 or 5 busy Hermes cooks, so I guess like everything else the greater the interest the more innovation. I still can't believe that my Hermes is actually more responsive than my Polaris, even with less RAM and a slower processor. Although I use my Polaris for everyday use, the Hermes is great fun to play with, especially with all the 6.5 roms available.
chavonbravo and c_shekhar have been quiet for a while, as have the PDAVIET boys. Wonder what they are working on at the moment? bet it's something good, especially chavonbravo, who's 3LIT3 VI rom is the best I've ever used.

What's the best 6.5.5 build?

Hi guys, I'm wantting to know your opinions about the latest 6.5.5 builds because I want to update the SYS on my Manila ROM. Despite the ROM it's already 6.5.5, It's an early 6.5.5 build and I would like to know wich it's the best 6.5.5 from the "user point of view" arround the forum.
Every comment and the comments from people that had used both 3 are the most apreciated.
i think the best 6.5.5 is 23563
but there are other choice of 6.5.3
there's so many kernels...
and they may form microsoft, may form HTC,SAMSUNG,LG,MOTO.....
just use the most stable and best memory control one i think

I think that would please alot of people.
I think that it also says alot for ffboy's rom, as he has only released it in one language. I have tried them both, and they are great. And a very hard choice just to pick one.
Actually aren't all the current builds relatively close?
I have tried a couple of builds of 6.5.5, and apart from a few bugs in each, they do seem quite similar
If tasks could be delagated, could build turnarounds be faster, more coherent and releases be less confusing?
I think all the work you guys are doing is fantastic, such a big difference to the situation a very short time ago, i am sure i am not alone in almost giving up hope in us ever getting past 6.5
The Perfect Rom
I think you need to wait until the developers will finish their development and post their final 6.5.5 Roms.(stable with no bugs and max Ram)
then it will be the best time to add manila to it.
everybody here behave like addicts....rushing and pushing the developers to post a new Rom after every step....they need to relax for my opinion.its silly to flash all those Roms unless you help testing
wait a few days and you will see.then you will have final releases and you will be able to decide.
I also have an important question.
Will your new manila releases will have landscape mode?

Difficult to answer because we must try during enough time each ROM... I'm testing FFBOY V1 ROM (and before v0.9) and I must say that there is very few issue (none for me until now) but no Sense include....

Yes, it's in my opionion the most stable and fastest Sense Rom, that's out until now.
Yes I agree with that but I hesitate between FFBOYv1.0+sense.cab (lot of free RAM) and ARAGn085, which works well with lot of RAM too... I have no problem with Arag ROM and a very few problems with FFBOYBeta2... FFBOYv1.0+sense.cab is a little slower I found than Sense integrated in ROM... But with more RAM! I think it never misses much about FFBoy Rom to be perfect!
My test is launch Skyfire with Sense activated, because it's a very good wen browser but it needs lot of RAM... No very scientific méthod...
