8525 screen not working, lights blinking - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I just got to my hotel for the night and my 8525 isn't working. I've tried taking the battery out but that's about my only option.
The blue and green lights are blinking relatively rapidly (blink blink blink) <-- read that at a relatively rapid pace
The touch screen isn't responding to any input. The buttons may pull up something for a bit but it disappears and it is always showing locked. Can't unlock it without the touch screen.
It sounds like hardware to me. I am out of troubleshooting ideas, not that I had many to begin with. I have found similar threads but none really address the lights blinking all crazy and the touch screen not responding.
This phone has been a nightmare for me. Turns itself on randomly, which as a pilot is just great. 36000 feet and my phones turning on and my radios getting crappy. Turns off randomly, mid call. So if it's hardware, I'm trashing the thing. Can't put more money into it but I will miss the tethering.

Thought I had something new but I dont. Need the Dream to come out and get unlocked

How to switch on the side leds for phones

Hi. I do not know if this is just my problem, but the side buttons for picking up or killing connection do not light up, when a call is coming and the device is closed (they do light up, when the display is opened, but i can not reach them and it is pointless that time). I would like to have them light up. How can I get it work? Thanks for answer.
Hi Ya,
I'm glad you have asked this, I keep meaning to and then forget about it until im out and about at night and the phone rings, then I remember.
Its damn annoying not seeing the lights, To anyone who might think so what, you try answering a call at night in the dark with the clam shut, I got a job to even know which way up to hold the phone.
It used to work but hasnt for months now, no idea why or when it stopped, as during the summer it wasnt such an issue.
it seems like these buttons are lit using the backlit of the display.
so the question is: how to override the
"if closed then switch off backlit" logic
with
" if closed then switch off backlit unless ringing"
No these buttons are not lit by the backlight and have LED's of their own. Just completely dim the backlight using the slider in the appropriate setting and you will see no change in the intensity of the button light.
Furthermore it is a stupid design but there is no setting currently available to make them glow when a call comes in and the lid is closed. This is by design, unfortunately.
Regards
Sorry but thats not quite true.
When I first got my phone the lights ALWAYS lit up when a call came in, but for some reason they have stopped doing it now
Interesting thing to point out, I would be interested in a "fix or workaround" too =)

Wierd blinking Problem (thread not to be taken seriously)

I have a very wierd problem with the lights at the top of my device.
I have set my TyTN to flash the light when I receive a new text message. It then blinks orange. Normally it blinks green.
Here is the problem. During the night when i wake up, it feels like the green light lights up my room twice every second, but during the day when i look at my TyTN, to see if I have received an sms i have to wait for 2 seconds for the light to flash.
Just want to hear your input on what might be wrong.
Personally I think that has to do with Einstein's Theory of Relativity rather than with the device itself.
Twice every second is very obvious.. it a 2Hz flickering light that light up your room. If you are sure you are fully awake and still see 2Hz flickering light in your room at night, probably it is a UFO.
lmao yeah id be looking at metal undies you dont know what probes are gunna be comin

[Q] Status LED ?

I tried looking in the forum for any info on the status LED next to the speaker on the front side but I don't see any posts on this. Is this LED supposed to flash or do something? On my HD it has never worked? Is it supposed to work?
I remember on my Artemis it would flash green for good reception, blue for bluetooth and red if the battery was low.

I may be wrong but i was under the impresion that this was a sensor rather than a LED.
No, that's entirely correct, it is the light sensor. The LED is in the power button.
the status led is on the power button on the top right hand side of the blackstone...the place u highlighted is a sensor as what scotia has point out..
I think that it is a proximity sensor used to blank screen when you put the phone on your ear to talk.
It's actually the light sensor used for when you have automatic display brightness enabled. When it's dark, it turns down the brightness... And when it's a sunny day it cracks it up. I am not sure whether it's used to blank the screen during a call... This seems to happen after a period of time has elapsed.

ok thanks for the info.
So does the power LED on the top side flash any color to show the status of the reception or does it only light up orange when it charges?
Thanks.
doesn't do anything for reception..although mine flashes green hen I have a message/email/reminder
pity though, a decent LED to show such things was probably high on everyone's wishlist
No, the HD is perfectly unobtrusive. On my last PDA the LED had to be tweaked to stop flashing.
Too bad this isnt a LED diode Since I got on my Diamond a light notification (on the bottom of device)... when I recieved new sms... now on HD there is no way I can figure do I have new sms or notification unless I turn the screen on. The only hardware flaw by mine opinion
When its lying down, I agree with you. Then I have to turn on the screen. However when its lying next to me I'm usually not in a place were I can't use my phone, so the sound is on anyway.
I actually think its quite good the LED is on the top, it's easelly visible when the phone is in my pocket. I just have to pull the phone up a little and look down to see the LED (no need to get it out and turn the screen on). I like it on the top, nice and discreet, and not anoying me when I'm looking at the device while using it.
Perhaps a combination would be nice? Front and top That would sattisfy most people I guess...

Backlight for touch-keys

Does anyone know how backlight is suppose to work for Home, Menu, Back and Search keys? Is it suppose to stay on as long as the screen backlight stays on or is it certain amount of time? What triggers them to come on- key press, screen touch, trackpad touch or all of the above? Mine don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason, at least I couldn't trace a pattern. I know that I was messing around with the phone last night in the dark and they would come on and go off as they pleased. Does light sensor have anything to do with it? Please sound off your findings and ideas.
Thanks!
Mine don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason either - it's a bit maddening. And the same goes for the backlight of the physical keyboard (sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't - no telling why), and also the automatic adjustment of brightness (i use the phone for a minute and suddenly it gets super-bright).
Hopefully these are all just bugs that will be fixed with an OTA update, but it is weird and I'm glad to know it's not just my unit since I don't want to replace it (I got a solid hinge - good stuff!).
I think I figured it out. Backlight for touch keys is controlled by light sensor and also has a timer (few seconds), so if it's bright enough outside - they will not even come on. If it's dark - they come on and stay on for certain time then go off untill you press one of them again.
Now, the other thing that I'm noticing is that my haptic feedback is not working when pressing one of those buttons or long-pressing the screen. Anyone else has that problem?
I have used my phone primarily in the dark. All my lights are always on (when the screen is) and the auto-brightness is too bright. If I turn brightness to minimum, the always on lights are way too bright compared to the screen. I really wish the designers had tried to use this phone in the dark (laying in bed) and realized the auto-brightness and lights are too bright in pitch-dark!
Also I am getting real sick of rotation. On my G1 I could disable it completely unless the keyboard was out. I like to lay in bed or on a couch and use my phone sideways, but not rotated. This seems impossible to do on the G2. Disabling rotation doesn't do anything for 3rd party apps or even GMail for that matter. For some reason this was not the case on the G1.
It will be hard to go back to the G1's one-second+ lag after every press and the incredibly slow loading webpages now that I have experienced the G2, but there are too many really annoying problems, so I think it is getting sent back.
if you have your backlight set to automatic... it will cut on only if the room is dark... check your backlight settings
It's an issue with the way android uses the light sensor. It's very poorly coded.

A5 2016 sometimes won't wake up, screen flashes

Hi,
I have this phone for little over 2 years. For over 1 week now I'm experiencing my phone not being able to wake up when I use the power button/home button. Whenever I push the button, the screen flashes for like 1s blue color, you can also see that the notification panel is blacked out and part of it green and it doesn't wake up. Sometimes it doesn't even flash. It used to take about 10 tries to wake it up but today I couldn't wake it up. I performed soft reset, I couldn't see the booting animation at all but it rebooted, buttons lit up and I was able to get in. It's like the phone is working fine in the background but the screen doesn't light up. I can turn down/up the volume, take a screenshot, get into settings, open apps, write a message but the screen is black. Even my alarm went off this morning but I couldn't dismiss it.
I downloaded an Always On Display app. Although I don't actually see the screensaver when it's locked, it's still on and it's easy to get in beacuse of it.
It all started with the screen flickering on minimum brightness. In February this year I had the screen replaced for the same issue but this time it's worse because of the blacked out screen.
Any ideas what it could be? Faulty display again?
Thank you

That would be great, but I'm not a person that buys new phone every 2 years. I was thinking about it though .
When it comes to flashing. Do you think that would help? I don't want to end up with a black screen unable to set the phone up again. Cause overall it's working great .
Hi, i have the same problem, i'm from Belgium, and I have blinking screen problem and wake up screen problem :s
is it a software issue (nougat???)
before the big update (marshmallow i dont have any problem)
i'm on firmware A510FXXS7CRJ6_A510FLUX7CRJ1_A510FXXU7CRJ6_HOME.tar.md5
Turn screen brightness up abit to stop the blinking of screen. It's an issue of the screen hardware itself at low brightness after wear and tear. As for the hanging issue, maybe it has to do with your AOD app? Try uninstalling the AOD app OR flashing a stock Rom OR custom rom OR factory reset and use your phone at a higher brightness that the screen does not blink and see whether it still persists.

Thanks, because of my past experience with the same problem earlier this year I know about that "solution". Unfortunately, it makes the battery die faster as expected. Which is sad because I used it mainly on low brightness. So it's really not a solution at all.
I got rid of the AOD app because I found out that the phone lights up on 2nd try. AOD didn't work at all. I have to wake it up, put it to sleep and wake it up again which is always successful and the screen lights up. The screen flashes white about 3 times in a row now otherwise it works.
I haven't flashed it yet although I wanted to. But I will see what can I do. Thank you though!
I'm having the exact same issue using LineageOS.
It's already been 2 years, but since this thread is one of the first results on Google, I'll gladly add a solution.
Exact same problem for me, went through two screen repairs under warranty, and it would always come back a year later. No difference between Samsung OS and LineageOS, though I haven't tried rooting it.
Found on Ifixit: this issue is related to the AMOLED screen technology used by Samsung (among others). You can look it up, apparently there is a bad (?) voltage management in low brightness which worsen with time.
I could fix it with the "OLED Saver" application on Play Store. It works around this voltage management and allows you to reduce the brightness without the green flickering.
I still got white flashes after the installation, but not anymore the day after. I could even disable this application without the issue coming back.
I don't know what kind of magic cleanup this app performed, but it really is a (screen) life saver.
