I have a NAS server with Twonky media server which is DLNA compatible, so devices like the Playstation 3 can stream audio and video off the network.
Anybody knows about a DLNA compatible player for the Diamond / Pocket PC platform?

I think it would be cool if I could use the Diamond as a kind of "wireless" device for playing music when I'm home!

I managed to get TVersity working for playing video but the performance wasn't that great, maybe because of the transcoder settings. I need to give it another go when I rebuild my server as it is dying at the moment.
Here is how I did it:
- Install FlashLite 3.1
- Start Opera and go to http://ipaddress: port/flashlib
Navigation is a bit slow but it works. Haven't tried music but you could give Pocket Player with the UPnP plugin a go. You might need Hamachi if you are not at home
To answer my own question - I guess Lobstertunes http://www.lobstertunes.com/
could be an alternative. The GUI seems dated though and the each tune show up twice in the listings...

I really thought it would be easy to find a UPnP DLNA Media player for pocket pc, but I was way off. You'd think this would be one of the basics these days.

I have had trouble finding A DLNA/UPnP client/player that works on 6.5.x for a long time now. Can't find one that works for android either.
Quite annoying the progress windows mobile has made through all these years.
I've been looking for a media player dlna compliant for WM 6.5.3.
Finally I found pocket player 4.0 (by Conduits). One catch once the program is installed you will have to update the plugins for Upnp support. To do this goto "menu" --> "More...." --> "Options...." then choose the plugin tab..."update now".
But I have to admit it works like charm with my Iomega IX2 acting as media server. Album art is also supported.
Not for free but much better than all the junk apps i've run into sofar.

Thank you so much for this post. When the time comes to retire my TP2, I will use it as a DLNA client. I've been looking for this software for quite a while.
Would it support Plex and myPlex?

I'm on my 3rd TouchPro 2. (I went through scads of XV6600's during the six year love affair the carriers had with tiny screens.)
Would this app work as a client for Plex? Even better, could it be used remotely over the internet with a myPlex login?

Needs to be able to talk to dlna devices...such as Homeserver Twonky and TVersity.
I think alot of us would enjoy being able to stream from our disk/server...and watch around the home...

Since I gave up my N95 with a almost perfect UPnP-client (and server on the pc side) I was thinking of using the same on WinMobile, accessing my media servers around the house. Difficult, as you noted, most clients (Lobster, Rudeo) just support music access. I guess Lobster Clips never got off the ground. I still have to test Nero Showtime Mobile, claiming to be a client that can access other servers than just Neros. But even this one seems to have vanished from Neros homepage. But I have a copy, will test eventually. Any other leads welcome.
Edit: Nero is crap, slow and cannot access any of my servers. But look...what a nice UPnP bible we have in the Wiki here

Looks like until Core Player is coming out with UPnP support (announced for a long time), Conduits Pocket Player, now in Version 3.7, is the client of (only) choice:

It seems like it was hard to stream media 4 years ago. It was begining of DLNA.

since i sold my iphone to buy a desire there has only been one thing that i have missed having. and that is being able to stream video content from my pc over my home wifi network onto my phone. i did this with an app called air video on the iphone. it converted all video while streaming it so i could play my divx videos from pc onto my phone anywhere in range of my wifi network without having to convert them first.
is there anything that lets me do this for android?

i.e. cant play .avi files as android doesnt have a good player etc..
I do this using stock apps on my phone, and a simple webserver on the other end.
I've done this with relative ease...
Any modern webserver with directory browsing enabled (IIS7/Apache)
Ability to modify/add content types within the webserver
Local cache of h264 or 3gp media (i.e. streamable)
Browse to movie using any browser on your Desire and stream over WiFi

Directory browsing enabled
Symbolic Link (Virtual Directory) to NAS box share over LAN

p.s. If you're running a windoze box, then you have IIS already.
use TVersity on your computer..and then you can just point your phone to the given IP address..save it as a bookmark in your phones browser... or shortcut

Rockplayer will play AVI
use androstream or vlc stream and convert
Well the best and easiest way i figured out, was making the movie folder accessible to the Network and connect to the folder through the Cifsmanager. As player I use pLayer, which is really the best player for Android.
You could always try VLC-Shares.
It does have a fair amount of setup though.

I liked the look of this and downloaded the PC side of it to realise that all I wanted do was access my photos in a nice graphical interface. Upon setting up this is for movies only...

Is there anyway to stream local media (video/music/images) from your home pc to the HD2 when both of them are connected on the same network?
My N82 and N97 did that flawlessly, (by media server), was wondering if I can do something similar via Tversity installed on my pc.

I'm not aware of a DLNA client for windows mobile, but TVersity comes with a web interface. Why not just use that?
Or, you can use pocket player with the uPNP plugin to stream audio, I am not sure how well video streaming works though as I never could get it to work satisfactoryly.
download tversity for your pc and get tcpmp player for your phone. I have to look into starting a post about this if there isn't one
I am also interested in this feature. I don't understand why Windows mobile doesn't have some sort of media sharing or media extender feature natively. I would like to be able to connect to my wireless network, turn on file sharing, and play a media file on my TV via my Xbox. I know that the HD2 does not have a video output method (such as the Nokia's, Incredible, Evo, etc), so I would hope to at least be able to make up for it wirelessly.
I was doing this exactly last year with my HD1, using the Network Plugin + CorePlayer/TCMCP so it is possible.
Just browse your network on your HD, find the file, and click Play.
For people who also have a Home Theartre set-up powered by a PC, check out GRemote as a great program to browse files on your HD2 and then launch them/control playback on your TV.
I know this has been a bit of a problem, but I've finally managed to piece together a decent method to stream things wirelessly from another computer on the network via UPnP (DLNA).
Unfortunately it's meant I've had to pay for some software - but it's software I used the free version of on a daily basis and in my opinion worth it!
Back when I had Windows Vista I used the built-in media sharing and it worked great sharing stuff to my xbox360/ps3.
Moving to Windows 7 the built in sharing has never really worked properly and I haven't been able to get it going properly. Instead I moved to TVersity which actually is a bit better as it supports built-in transcoding etc.
I discovered that the "Pro" (read: Paid-for) version of TVersity supports streaming to iPhone/iPad via a built-in web interface - so I figured, why not try it on the Desire HD.
In fact it works very, very well indeed. All you need is an app on the phone that can play the media types such as DivX and AVI.
Initially I tried VPlayer Beta, which worked quite well, but the interface is a bit confusing and it doesn't seem to be able to play MPEG files correctly.
Yesterday, however, Rockplayer was upgraded to 1.5.0 (and now 1.5.1) changing it to "Rockplayer Universal" - and this works absolutely perfectly with everything I've tried so far. It's very fast too!
So all I do is load the web interface for TVersity that is loaded on my PC and click the file I want to watch and it starts streaming almost instantly.
I am a very pleased boy!
Great news , it's very unfortunate indeed that htc provided players do not support avi, xvid and vidx, or there is no integration when it come to windows media servers .
why having dlna if you cannot see videos, I have similar case I hope htc will solve this issue. but i am not going to put an extra penny on technology .

Install Gmote on the pc and Rockplayer or Vplayer on phone. Works perfectly for streaming avi. xvid from your PC. I even got it to work over 3g by port forwarding on my firewall.
is there any android to pc remote controller ? like next pause play for media player ?
Gmote 2.0 is good one. Works over WiFi.
there is one literally called "pc remote controller" lol it lets you see what your doing, which is good
theres also "unified remote" which is good for if your away from your computer but can still see the display. has media features, filemanager...etc, and you hav a multitouch mouse for rightclicking too.
these two, along with gmote, ive used, all through wifi. ive noticed all three tend to drop connection / difficulty connecting in the first place, thats why i had three of them, but this may have been a laptop/network/firewall issue.
(btw, all require you to install the server-side version on the pc, and be running when you want to use it.
I use itap mobile touchpad. Works great and offers gestures for two fingers for scrolling and stuff.
It also has a menu thing for volume and player control with pause play mute and stuff. I'm happy with it
Unified remote is pretty good especially because it has a whole range of remotes for various programs

I would recommend you XBMC!!!
It's a media center that can be controlled with any android device and play almost every kind of media that I know (mp4, mkv, avi, divx... It even plays img, iso and many more)
Give it a try!!
I use phone my pc. My computer on my phone and I control everything like I'm sitting at my desk. If anyone wants it I will up the apk. Let me know.
