Hi, the next month I'll take my vacations in Mexico City, I planned go with my T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition, but I talked with the T-Mobile Customer Service and they tell me that if I use my Phone in Mexico I’ll pay $1.49 dollar per Minute!!!.
Mexico don’t have XDA, only regular PocketPC and the ultimate Cell phones (included Smart Phone).
So, somebody have any idea, any trick, any tip??
Somebody tell me “unlock your phone and put a Local SMD Card”, but I don’t know.

What I do down there is use a local pre-paid card in my unloocked XDA. That's convenient and reasonably cheap.
Besides the $1/minute, be aware that every SMS costs 35 cents! That's inbound and outbound, no matter where it comes from, you're paying.

Step 1 is to unlock the phone. There are tools and instructions on this site for doing that.
Step 2 is to acquire a pre-paid SIM from Telcel when you get down there.
Step 3, obviously, is to put it in and use it.

Yes, I speak Spanish, but can't write it and have trouble reading it. I was born in Cuba but educated and raised in the US. We moved here when I was five years old. Never got a formal education in Spanish, just conversational.
BTW, it was funny the first time I went to get a card down there. They asked for what phone, and I told them. They said they'd never heard of it. I pulled it off my belt to show them, and everybody got wide-eyed and actually kinda moved back away from it. My friend said it looked as if I'd pulled a wiggling alien baby from my pocket.

Yeah!! but you know what? Here in USA a LOT American People Don't know NOTHING about the XDA or PocketPC, only Know the Call phone with Camera, but when I Show them for example ==> TERMINATOR 2 MOVIE (DivX) all the People said "WOW!!! what is That???" when Show that I can Access my bank of America Account , the same thing!!, but is True Here (USA) is more "normal" in Latin Countries is Not "normal" jejeje.

Well, when the typical Mexican earns less in a month than what the XDA costs, it's easy to see why they would be rare. If I took mine to Cuba, they'd think I was an alien.
I unlocked mine using one of the SE ROM's a while back. I understand there are other methods now, but don't know the details on any of them. Check in the "unlocking" section of the forum.
Hi Carlos, I have other Questions:
Ok, I need to Install the Spacial Edition ROM 1.2 in my Device. When reset the Device the Fist time, the Phone Ask me about the UNLOCK, I click YES.
So, my questions are:
1.- What version do you had in your XDA when you visited Mexico?
2.- If I reinstall the 4.00.21 ROM, the Unlock is there??
3.- The Phone is UNLOCKED for Ever?? or I need LEAVE the SE ROM all the Time??

Hola roberto: una vez que instalas el rom de xda-developers, el xda queda ya desbloqueado (unlocked), independendiente de la version, para siempre.

Once the phone is unlocked, it stays unlocked. I've used three different SE ROM versions there as well as 4.00.16. Doesn't matter.

I´m from Baja California, MEXICO .. there are a lot of people who have the XDA 2 here in México. I bought my XDA2 the last november, so you need to ask it throght internet, easier ..
800 dolares ...? come on is not a much money, if you think you have a mp3, windows media, radio (real one inet), pocket pc and movil on one gadget .. is terrific. Right now i´m wating my next gadget the Motorola MPX ..

FYI, just got my new HD, French version today !! Had pre-odered it 10 days ago, was calling regularly; 24 devices were shipped from the Distributor today to Surcouf...so there's 23 left for now, minus two or three that went for demo or employee acquisitions, that makes it some 20 left, should all go by Saturday mid-day.
I've just unpacked the device, and am still playing with initial settings and configuration.
First 10 minutes is very exciting, as the screen really holds so much more info: example: weather shows the 4 following days just below.
Size is real cool.
Speed of browsing through settings tabs is real fast.
I'll report back tomorrow, after having installed my usual apps (I'm a heavy user, with a LOT of applications, ranging from MSVC to Tom TOM, using Blue-tooth via Parrot CK3100 in the car, etc.
My best to the next ones. Hope to exchange on user experience soon.
BTW: I was using (still have with me) the HTC Diamond, running the latest cooked ROM's from Panosha (2.4) and Dutty (2.9).

obviously, samsung has a huge communication problem! It is really a shame that samsung cannot inform retailers with the right specifications and release dates... the phone is already released in one shop in the UK, but there is no press release about it, instead some "samsung workers" are twitting contradicting tweets which just increases confusion. The phone ist ultimately due to release and there is still no word about a world shipping plan... if apple does something better than samsung than communication!

Yes it is. But NFC and minor funtion changes are subject to wireless company, not to country. And.. there are 120 country and 170 companies pull off SG2 together and talking about minor differences b/w companies possibly related their contract or some. I hope sammy make big chart comparing every SG2s.

4 phones in just over a year will probably get the wife a little too excited though.
Four in a year? Oh boy! I got my M8 pretty late so probably not gonna upgrade right away. It'll probably take a while to come to fido anyway.

Well, I got a Moto X... Loved it, but was a bit bored, quiet Development. Gave it to the wife and got an N5. Loved it too. Then Telus calls and offers me a "free" M8. Well, have a 2 year contract... But saved 200 on the phone. ?
M9 will be very tempting, but pretty sure I won't be allowed. ?
Aside question on plans and contracts: I am currently with telus and the 60$ 3 years contract. I assume I can keep the plan if buying unlocked elsewhere. How about asking to reduce price when device balance expires, would they agree to it, anybody any experience? Are there better alternatives with respect to this out there?

Our carriers are the OG douche canoes.
Probably something Samsung marketing did with carriers to get exclusive launch - all business stuff to block out the competition.
Pretty difficult to buy anything other than Samsung and Apple in Canada.
And also very difficult to buy without signing up for a contract. Just sell me a damn phone.
I usually have to sign up for a month to month and then cancel it. Then I have to fight to get the refund (Bell and Videotron both tried to send me bills after I cancelled, then they argue, and I quote the regulations over and over until they finally give up). Telus sold me a phone once without a contract, but only from an online order. Hope they still do that.

Their prices are stupid usually here too. (in Canada)
I did do a 2 year for my M8...but only cause I got 200 off the phone price.
Otherwise, I'd have looked for new in box with receipt on Kijiji, like I did with my X and N5. ?

If you buy, Bell can unlock your M9 to your request. Of course there will be a fee for this. Same for purchase under contract, you'll be able to unlock at the end of your contract of 2 years.

Mon HTC one M7 je les prit avec contrat avec Bell ( mais j'ai annulé le contrat l'été passé pour aller avec une petite compagnie avec de meilleur forfaits moins cher) je les unlocké pour 3-4$.
De plus.. je veut le M9 sans contrat car c'est beaucoup trop dispendieux surtout depuis le 2 ans. Je pensait que Bell et les autres était obligé de le déverouillé sans frais si tu le prend sans contrat.. mais visiblement par ce que tu me dit c'est pas le cas. Tu suggère de le prendre sans contrat avec eux ou de le prendre sur un site d'achat style ncix là c'est sur qui seras déjà déverouillé.
