My father has one of the old T-Mobile wings(the silver ones) running windows mobile 5. I wanted to know if i could possibly upgrade it to WM 6 or WM 6.1.
I don't know nothing about this or what it means but i believe the spl or whatever it is for the phone is 2.26.0001. It shows up before the phone turns on completely.

silver tmobile wing??
are you sure its not and mda?
if it a wing go search for hard-spl and do EXACTLY what it says.
then go search for a custom rom thats wm6.1
or you can always go to the tmobil website and download the newest wm6 rom

many roms of wm6 are around on known sites for specific models.is anything for our herald too?ive read that there is going to be an official update to wm6 of this model so there must be something around, even beta.
Mhhm, i couldn´t find anything by now....
Lets wait a little, i think HTC is going to release something for us, soon
No one cooking any roms for the Herald tho?
doesn't look like it, i looked into porting one of the wizard roms but i didnt get very far! its definately possible to flash your own roms though. Also its worth remembering that HTC have promised us wm6 roms before June. I would much rather have that than a pre-release wm6 rom as the ones that are avaliable for the wizard, hermes etc.
As far as i know, everyone is content with AKU 3.2

well i have used crossbow on my wizard and the only difference i see are pretty icons and html mail. i dont really care about either, and more importantly my herald is very stable, cant remember the last time i had to soft reset never mind hard reset. so thats why i can wait until htc do their thang!
I hear one handed uses on WM6 is way better and that windows update feature looks very promissing.
O2 may be releasing an HTC Herald as O2 XDA Terra, with WM6 on it.

HTC Herald (aka Tmo Wing)
I bought a T-Mobile Wing 2 days ago (obviously it has WM6 on it) Where-as it is stable - I am rather disappointed that they removed the native VoIP support - thus I am waiting for someone to cook a ROM and put it back in so I can do the Hybrid Cell/VoIP thing that I was Previously doing on my Wizard (MDA) - I still have my Wizard which I use strictly for VoIP at home.

Hi, Sorry if ive missed something, but i have looked on here and google, my friend has a HP iPAQ Data Messenger, and i was wondering if they are any custom roms for it? or if theirs another name it goes by since i cant see it anywhere on here?
Thank you in Advance.
Nope no roms, i just sold my Data Mess because of that.
It is a way too new device so there are no devs using it. Especially since it is way too overpriced.
But unless you/he is in desperate need of 6.5 i sugest you install Manilla and some apps to make the best of it. Hopefulle HP will release 6.5 eventually but no guarantees.
new rom update from hp here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=hh-68833-2
I loaded new rom from hp support.
pda is better...but it needs more....
would be really great if someone were to cook a 6.5 for this phone. problem is finding someone other than us who bought one...ha!
bump...... Somebody as to be working on this.
agree
Totaly agree with you, someone has to be cooking something, cause the Data Messenger is quite a good phone.
I actually just bought a brand new unlocked iPAQ Data Messenger yesterday for 200 euro.
Right now I'm busy changing the Win 6.1 UI so it's more finger friendly. But WinMo 6.5 itself would be killer.
.
Well, I have done the same, I have installed HTC Home plugin + LG Today Plugin (just search the forum and you will find it)
That's the best and most stable result I have got to get my Data Messenger finger friendly.
But I agree with you, WM6.5 would be a killer.
But when I see that is me and a few others that are using this phone I really thinking about to sell this phone.
Did anyone tried installing SPB?

I'd cook it my damn self if I just knew how. I've used to had P2K Motorola's that I used to mod and flash the hell out. I just have no idea how to cook a WinMobile ROM else I'd use my own Data Messenger as a test machine.
iPAQ Data Messenger ROM is encrypted, so there is no way to make a custom ROM yet.
Maybe someone will ever make a tool to decrypt / encrypt the ROM.

Yes, ROMs are different.
It's easy get XIP and IMGFS parts from Voice Messenger ROM, but it's impossible with Data Messenger.

No, that does does not work. And NEVER try to do something like that.
ROMs are device specific.
Why not available in hp ipaq data messenger for windows mobile 6.5 rom?
Do you know if there is any problem upgrading a data massenger with an official hp rom in a language different from the original one?
Eg I buy a data messenger in english and then I upgrade the device with an official hp rom in italian.
Thanks
Americo
I think like the rest of you, we just don't know when or if Vodafone will release 6.5 for our TP2's.
Therefore, carrying on from my other thread where I was prepared to pay £100 to someone who could sort out a cab file for the OEM Manila 2.1 for my phone, I have sorted this out myself.
I won't go into great detail, but suffice to say that it took me all weekend to go through what files were needed and what wasn't.
So with out further a do, attached is my effort. Be aware, it is 33.9mb uncompressed. I suggest that you hard reset your device before installing this although not necessary. I would also suggest that you do not let the device go into sleep mode, un-check all the options in the battery power saving. It takes a good 10 minutes to install as there are 2236 files.
This version is 2.1 and includes the facebook integration, which does work. The cities on the weather tab are the standard, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Edinburgh. I have also included the Slide to wake mode for the hardware keyboard.
I have also included HTC's standard black *.tsk file so that if you want, all the icon selection colours will be green. I have left these alone on the vodafone tsk as I don't mind the blue.
The comm manager switches are now the correct colour highlight focus, all "buttons" are green with the exception of the active sync connection page which is the original black.
Go HERE to download
Hey Allen... I went to the Voda store yesterday and the kind lady told me that 6.5 should be releasing by next month of not within this month!
Not much of a specific date but hey atleast they are releasing the new versions pretty quick! Hopefully they have not bothered to tweak it with their Red themes!

Effectively yes. I extracted all the files from the latest WWE ROM which contained Manila 2.1 like ours.
Hopefully I will be able to do this with 2.5 but it depends how VF have bastardised it.

Interesting, HTC list the following VF ROM on their site so do we know if it's revised?
RUU_Rhodium_Vodafone_UK_1.14.161.6_R1_Radio_Rhodium_3.44.25.27_Signed_Ship.exe
They also list the following ROM 5.10.161.1 - allegedly for VF UK but my serial number doesn't work for that.
This is from Vodafone Turkey.....so I think the UK will get the same rubbish !!!
I think the Vodafone people are color blind why on earth is it red...YUK YUK and YUK !!!

The first one is just the one VF posted on their site around a month earlier, exact same. The bottom one is for a Touch Pro?
Can this manila 2.1 work on say... an at&t tilt 2 (touch pro 2) And does it include the weather clock?
i'm really not seeing why you wouldnt just HARDspl and flash a stock or cooked rom from one of the mithelin star chefs on here.

Because it's not something that I wanted to do, "horses for courses". Besides, it has given me an insight as to how it all bolts together. It also gives anyone else who doesn't want to change ROM's an alternative to the VF rubbish.

Hey everyone, I'm super new to all of this stuff. I have a Windows Mobile 6.1 HTC Touch. I'm trying to flash a WM 6.5 rom to the device because I hate WM 6.1! I've successfully dual booted (not sure this is the right term) Android 2.2 from my SD card with almost no direction, I found it really easy. For whatever reason I'm having a terrible problem even CID unlocking my phone... I've searched LONG hours and Googled forever, none of the written instructions seem to do justice for me. Could someone make or point me in the direction of a detailed written tutorial or maybe even a video? And let me know if you play Playstaion 3.
Are you certain it is an ELF and not a Vogue? You mention FroYo which makes me wonder is all.
Is it CDMA or GSM?
(I don't play PS3...)
Android 2.2 in your SD card???

Ohh... I think it is a vogue, when I plug it in the usb port it shows up in "My Computer" as "Vogue". What's the difference? And I'm not exactly sure what CDMA or GSM are, think it has something to do with my service carrier though... if so I'm unlocked for cricket wireless.
EDIT: I did some Googleing and Cricket uses CDMA, am I in the wrong forums? Will I still be able to get WM 6.5?

You shouldn't get your hopes up that much, because if you hate WM6.1, you will also dislike 6.5. They are the same operating systems, but one is slightly more finger friendly. I think 6.1 is still quicker and more stable than any 6.5 ROM, but if you have a stock 6.1 ROM (that came with the phone), then I'd definitely suggest you flashing your phone and getting a new one, 6.1 or 6.5.

And when you are done reading, read it one more time
It has been done hundreds of times, you only need to pay attention to what you are doing and follow everything down to the "T".
Ask there if you have questions.
Hello, is it possible to put Windows Mobile 5 or 6 or 6.5 in this device? If yes,
how?
The answer is yes...
and no...
Yes you could upgrade your OS - but maybe it hasn't been done yet for your device...
So no there may not be an easy fix.
You may want to look at my thread to see what I've been going through trying to upgrade an old iPAQ:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=981868
Curious though - if I look up your device on www.pdadb.net there is a secondary search result in their repository. A WM 6.1 ROM for HTC Kaiser. I don't have any idea if you could flash a Kaiser ROM to your device which is codenamed: HTC Beetles.
There may be a reason that they cross reference Beetles and Kaiser. (It works both ways - search one and you get a secondary result for the other.) So that might be one avenue for you to explore.

No, it's not possible - hw6500 Series iPAQs never got WM5 ROM. And if there is no WM5 ROM for your device - you can't get anything higher than WM2003SE.

You can't flash other devices ROMs. hTC Kaiser and hTC Beetles are two completely different phones.
ROMs are device-specific, so never try to flash any other ROM that was not made for your device, even if the specs seems to be the same.
Thanks Spiaatie,
It is good to have someone with proven experience weigh in and help those of us who are just now tinkering with these old devices...
