Hi everybody!
I've noticed that the birthday information set in Contacts is not displayed in the Today screen of the TF3D.
Does anybody knows about a solution for this?
Note: an obviously solution is create a calendar event for every birthday but I'd rather use information in contacts
For some reason my birthday information works, and i had no events set!
I'll look into it and report back as to why it works.

That's because you've synched your device with Outlook. Doing so automatically creates reminders in your Calendar.
I sync with Exchange Server and it doesn't create automatic reminders. So, I'm screwed, like the thread starter... I wish there were a way to create reminders for contacts birthdays without having to sync with Outlook.

Mmmm... I sync with Outlook 2003 and I have no reminders... But I used to have Outlook 97 and I remember that in some contact information (probably those created in Outlook 97) I've seen shortcuts to calendar events (probably I have reminders just in those ones)
May be Outlook 2003 doesn't create reminders automatically any more... Or may be there's an option to activate in order to create them.
Anyway that could be a solution for me... Let's investigate!
I'll check too.
I belive that once I set the birthday in contacts (outlook 2007) it works fine. I'll let you know
I belive mine works, but I'm not sure I'll investigate too
I have a similar problem.
I sync with outlook 2003 at work (but dont check the contact option) because this outlook has "n" work contacts that i dont want in my personal mobile.
At home if i sync the contacts (could not check the calendar because its synced with other computer - work) i dont get the allday events from the birthdays.

I think I've got it!
Ok... The fact is that REMINDERS WORK! As simply as it is...
So... Why did'nt I get the reminders in the Today screen? Easy... I did got the reminders but I DIDN'T SEE THEM.
The problem is the Today screen. The clock is sooooo BIG that covers almost all the usable surface of the screen, so the Diamond only shows you one event at a time.
If you want to see the rest of them you have to scroll down. But, what if you don't know that there are more events in the list? You won't be notified!!!
I think I would be enough if the Today screen would show then number of events that happens today. So the user would be notified and our reminders would do the job.
Any ideas?
mine doesn't work as well. using bepe's 0.99dx rom. i don't use outlook at all. pimbackup does the backup job for me
stupid slow connection...
i tried different things out, and it seems to be working fine for me. when i add birthday to a contact in outlook on my pc, it shows up in the calendar as an all-day-event, and syncs to the diamond. same thing if i enter birthday on the diamond and sync it back - it appears in my outlook...
however, those events are only created for the future, so if you created now a birthday for somebody, who was born on, say, August 1., it would first appear starting from 2009.
the only problem that i have is that for some contacts there are multiple birthday "events" in the calender, but this might be somehow caused by me cross-syncing my contacts first with neo/elf, then with touch, and now with diamond...

So, let's say i use the phone for a a few days, make myself a bunch of reminders and calendar appointments. They all get dismissed, or sometimes postponed then i'll dismiss them.
When i sync the phone through activesync, outlook will pop up all the reminders that are new since the last sync! Is this just shoddy programing? Wouldn't it be simple enough to flag the dismissed reminder to sync to outlooks calendar in the dismissed state? But instead, it acts like it's new and overdue.
Now i heard there's a way to turn off reminders in outlook, but i need those as well. Is there a way to fix this?
nope. i have a wizard and that was happening to me. it was pissing me the hell off. i would close it and it would come back and i think they were multipying. i think what i did wrong was i had yahoo! go syncing my calender, then i had goosync syncing my calender in google, then i had activesync syncing my calender on my computer in outlook. so with all the syncing i think everything got duplicated a bunch of times. so what i did was write down all my dates and then i erased EVERYthing on the calender. then i added back the holidays and all my events that i wrote down. i disabled syncing from goosync and yahoo and it never happened again.
i know what your going through though. i wanted to break my computer during that ordeal. lol

It may be that you chose to synchronise not all of the Calendar items. And you chose for example not to synchronise, but move items in only one direction.
Check ActiveSync options for Calendar (main window, settings...).
It may give you a clue.
Hello all,
It seems that TD2 does not insert birthdays from contacts in the agenda. The solutions would be that you manually add them to the agenda (of course not a real option) or sync contacts with Outlook, which will put them into agenda as well. I personally would prefer not to use Outlook for my contacts.
Is there a fix that birthdays are automatically put in agenda as well?
Thanks!
Am I really the only one who is waiting for an answer?
The TD2 does not, as you say, add birthdays into the Calendar, but Outlook does, and these birthday calendar entries then get synchronized back to the TD2.
The only way I can see a "fix" coming is by programming an app for the TD2 which scans contacts and inserts the birthdays into the calendar, checking of course that they're not already there - I guess this would need to be run manually every time you add a new birthday into a contact, or at least periodically (maybe it could run in background once per day), but as far as I know no such app exists yet.
To my mind, synching with Outlook is the best way, because not only does it solve the problem very well, it also means you have a backup of all your contacts and calendar entries. To me it's a no-brainer.
I've just had a quick check on my calendar and all my contacts birthdays are in there. Even anniversarys are showing

Yep - you synch with Outlook, correct?
I am syncing with outlook, I have been for some devices now. So the birthday reminders are showing up as allday appointments in my calendar. The reminder time for all those birthdays is 2 days in advance, the calendar shows all that correctly. However, I never get one of those reminders!! All other appointment reminders work fine and so do the task reminders, so there's nothing wrong with my notification queue. But the birtday reminders aren't popping up. On my old cruise I got a reminder two days in advance AND on the birthday itself. Now I get none of them.
What's causing this? Can anyone confirm that you have or don't have birthday reminders? I'd appreciate any reactions.
I've found this information in the blackstone forum. I can see that D2 is adding "calendar.exe /allday" notifications to the queue too. I guess memmaid, which I'm using, deletes those notifications.
It was indeed Memmaid that caused the problem, deleting the /allday notifications. I e-mailed their support, hoping they'll fix it. In the mean time, I excluded all notification queue maintenance from the cleaning schedule and recreated the notifications for all my birthdays via ActiveSync.

I'm really annoyed with this problem too. The bigger problem is I'm using an Apple macbook to sync, so using Outlook is out of the question. Looks like I'll have to add all the reminder myself
Having a look around the forum, there appears not to be a quick and easy solution to this.
It's not ideal to have birthdays in your contacts and then separately add them in your calendar as appointments (like others, I think it defeats the objective).
There is a software, not yet tried it: http://www.xoddy.com/products/
but it says its only for WM5, not sure if WM6 will support.
Looking forward to an answer or someone to develop a simple software that will resolve the issue - apologises I don't have the knowledge to do this.

That's one of the penalties of not using a single-vendor solution. If you used Microsoft Outlook with your Microsoft WM phone, you'd be fine. Using an Apple computer with a Microsoft phone OS, you're bound to hit some snags.
I'm sure it's the same for people using iPhones with Windows PCs. Manufacturers tend to make their own products work better together than they do with the competition's products, which makes sense!

I use syncmate to sync ical and address book, within ical prefs, you can show birthdays, these will then sync onto phone
I used to sync with outlook, but it had a habit of changing appointment/birthday dates, usually makes them a day earlier, but only for some, have had no probs with syncmate
Hi
I'm working on a program which will provide various notification related functions not normally included on Windows Mobile.
1) Will add contact's birthdays and anniversaries into the calendar.
2) Will give audible alerts at regular intervals like most mobile phones for text messages/missed calls/emails to get your attention.
3) Option to silence the alerts during the night at a schedule you can select, plus also turn the phone off over night and turn on the next day, good for battery life.
I'll post when it is finished.
Regards
Phil
sounds great!!!
sounds great ... Have you just begun or are you about to finish?
Hi
It is almost finished, I'm just testing it at the moment. It's based an application I did for the Kaiser.
Regards
Phil
Sounds good PhilipL!
I already programmed a solution for this, which will add all birthday reminders to your calendar (without the need for outlook) but it's in german. I'll translate and upload it shortly.
Here it is BirthdaysToCalendar, derived from a sample application included in MS Visual Studio 2008. It will add all or selected birthdays to your calendar.
The program offers a few choices, either add all birthdays to the calendar in one go or let it ask in single steps for each contact's birthday to be added or not. Set the reminder time (time you will be informed prior to the birthday) in minutes. 1 day would be 1440min. , 2 days 2880 min. and so forth. On top you can have the birth year added to the subject, so you will know how old they'll be.
No duplicates will be generated if the program is run again. However, if you have a birthday alert set up manually yourself, but they are not in the the same form (John Doe's Birthday or Birthday John Doe) they will be duplicated.

Hi,
I've just tested the synchronization of Contacts and Calendar with the Hero, and I can't seem to get it to synchronize appointments made on the phone to Outlook on my PC. I have the latest version of HTC Sync (2.0.4) installed. I haven't changed any of the default settings.
Anyone else have the same problem? Please test it.
Thank you.
when you create new events in the phone calendar, you need to attend to the top-most drop-down, which is to which calendar the new event should be added. The choices are "My Calendar", "Outlook", and then your Google Calendars listed.
If you get this wrong, the sync won't work as expected. The default is the first in the list "My Calendar", and I took ages wondering why it wouldn't sync to my Google Calendar, which was the third in the list.
Then I read about this in another thread, set my google cal when creating a new event, and it did sync.
tedious though.
I can second this.
Just change the Calendar to Outlook and it will sync as expected.
Caught me out also!
Thank you sooooo much!
and if you go into "calendars" you can permanently de-select the ones you don't use - all but Google in my case, perhaps all but Outlook in yours - and then it should be fine. And I think the new event calendar selector remembers your last choice anyway.
Greetings,
I have a problem which I heard around the places before but haven't found any solution.
So, we have a contact - then we add a birthday date for it, after all the calendar does not remind us about it in any possible way.
I must enter an event by myself.
Writing this after almost missing the birthday yersterday of a closed one.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.
P.S. I know about "Manila Birthday for Leo", but still I want to have a full synchronized contact list with calendar, can I?
Any help guys?
try entering the contact into the microsoft contact app.
you need to sync your callendar with outlook, then you will see birthdays in your HD2 in callendar
Can that be done automatically? Or you need sync with Outlook every time to add birthdays into calendar? Because after synchronizing it I may add some new ones' and still they would not be displayed.
you need to have set B'days in your contacts in the field Birthday. if you do and then you sync Contacts and Callendar with Outlook, then Outlook will automatically assign B'days to your callendar. if you enter birthday to a contact after syncing, then you ofcourse need to sync again.
I synchronize my HD2 with Outlook once per week to be updated as much as possible.
also in case of losing your device you have all contacts and callendar in Outlook
Or if you don't use outlook, you can install "Manila Birthday", it detects all birthday entries in your contacts, and adds calendar entries for them.
You can even set it to repeat those entries every year.
Works very well here.
use a free app called birthday2calendar. it scans your contacts and syncs the birthdays with the calendar. works fine here so far and it's small and free!

Thanks for answers people, as far as I understood we can't sync it automatically like in Nokia phones. Too bad...
You can do it automatically only if you use full Outlook features. It's quite normal for Microsoft to promote its own products...
I've got a stock Evo I'm testing for 30 days (90% sure I'll keep it) and sync'd my Outlook 2003 calendar to it. For some reason, when I delete ONE occurrence of a recurring event, it deleted EVERY occurrence of that event.
After going to the HTC Seattle event the other night, I spoke to a few HTC reps about it, showing them the issue. I even created an example recurring event and it had the option of 'Delete All Events' or 'This and Future Events'.
The HTC folks were stumped, since all their phones would allow you to delete just the current recurring event, instead of every single instance.
Any ideas? I really need to be able to get rid of past recurring events so I know when I actually missed something truly important.
You will need to use the "@gmail" calendar and not "my calendar" on the phone.
My wife had the same problem...i didnt.
She synced her calendar with outlook, i didnt.
Her reoccuring dates wouldnt allow to delete a single instance...mine would.
She was using the "my calendar", I was using the "@gmail" calendar.
To fix the problem for her I exported her "my calendar" and set her phone to use the @gmail google calendar and then imported her calendar into that and it fixed the problem.
Or you could maintain your calendar in Outlook and then just sync it everytime changes are made.
Another option (which i would have her use but it currently doesnt not support outlook 2010) is Google Calendar Sync. That will keep your outlook and google calendar in sync using two way.
Crap.... Really? Darn...
Thanks for the reply! I guess I'll need to do some research on G-Calendar.
I use my phone for everything, and then back it up to my Outlook as a reserve, so I guess I'll need to create a G-Mail account as well.
Any advice on migration?
You can sync Outlook to Google Calendar
