Hey guys !
Is it possible to use TOUCH DIAMOND as modem for connecting to internet (internet sharing) when phone is connected to PC ?
is there any application that enables that option ?
please help
thnx
Greg
Yes, you can. Use Internet Sharing for that purpose - it's inbuilt in most recent ROMs. You usually share through USB or Bluetooth.
great
but how to enable it ?
i am using HTC 1.93 rom europe, official one.
where and how to do that ?
It actually comes built in to the most recent official roms as well. You go to start menu, them programs. There you will see an app called internet sharing. Click on that and then press connect at the bottom left hand corner. And presto. Internet is shared !!!
found it, great
thank you very much
if i did this could I use my unlimited internet usage on my phone contract??
You can't get better than this http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
Turn your Diamond into a wifi hot spot!

I want to setup my P3600 (English ROM) as a 3.5G modem for my PC but not successful yet. The Telco service staff has no idea too and pass me a manual for dopod 838 pro. The mentioned programs are not there, nor in my dopod D810 CD.
I can:
- Activesync using USB
- Activesync using bluetooth
Question:
- Should I use the same HTC modem dialer on my PC for XDA?
- Should I use the Start->Program->Internet Sharing?. It allows me to choose bluetooth or USB to PC but both not working too after connect.
Anyone successfully connect their PC via P3600 using HSDPA, pls share the steps. Many thanks.
Eventually, I figure it out myself.
Forget all the HTC modem dialer or wireless modem program as in Xda.
1. Start->Program->Internet Sharing on WM5.0
2. Select the connection type: USB or BT
3. Select "Connect"
4. Then connect the USB and done.
For BT, it would have instruction for you to start PAN now. done.
Woo, it's much easier than the HTC dialer. But now my problem is VPN problem with my telco.
Thanks very much for reporting this info back, it will come in useful when I get my trinity!

Sadly, because Internet Sharing is actually a NAT server running on your phone, it could prevent you from using 'classic' VPN. You can find more details by googling for 'VPN over NAT'.
for VPN purposes you can always use old good wireless modem mode. it works well.
I don't think it is related to NAT. As long as the VPN ports are opened, it should work. I am using a Wireless router at home and no trouble at all for using VPN under NAT.
Checked with telco. They can enable it for me with extra charge/month. and also the traffic would be charged as expensive GPRS plan. What kind of service!!!
Think twice before subscribing. I used "WonToFee / 1-1-" . The sales that say it can work for VPN may not even know what a TCP port is.
Anyone has use VPN over HSDPA with another telco? e.g. SMOOTH TONE
Hello,
This thread is a bit old, however I think it is related to my problem: I am trying to use Internet Sharing on my P3600 (ROM 1.23.405.2 / Radio ROM 1.38.00.11). Using BT, it works just fine. However, when connected on USB it works fine only for the first time. When I tap "disconnect", the HSDPA connection is stopped, but the status keeps displaying "Connected". There is now way to use Internet Sharing again before a soft reset (Windows XP wouldn't even recognize the P3600 again). Is this a known issue? I have googled a bit, but I haven't found any similar problems.
Thanks!

Hi shefful,
I have had the same problem. I have come across a possible solution while browsing forums. When you need to disconnect press and hold down the red end call button for a few seconds and this disconnects the modem. I haven't tried this yet but it's worth a shot.
regards
Adam

Hi adamwolfe,
Thanks for your help, unfortunatelly this is not the solution to my problem. The GPRS connection ends (according to the icon on top of the screen), but the status keeps displaying "Connected". The application stops responding and can't be stopped from Settings/Memory/Runnning Programs.
Hi shefful,
Yeah, I have the same problem too. Looks like the program freezes in the Connected status. Even tried terminating Internet Sharing with Start/Settings/.../Memory/Running Programs and relaunching Internet Sharing.
Sometimes I get a popup message saying the remote host has terminated the connection before the program hangs. I think this may be the cause of the problem. Which mobile operator are you on?
Rebooting is the only solution so far. Fortunately the Trinity reboots in 20 seconds - one of the fastest in the PPC market I think.
Hi ayhansan,
For other reasons I needed to hard reset my Trinity and the freezing problem has disappeared. I don't know what had caused this problem, I just hope it won't happen again. If I disconnect the USB cable, the status changes to "disconnected" and I can always reconnect.
same problem here
i am connecting to laptop thru USB
after I disconnect UMTS phone syaing still connected
and want kill Internet Sharing
???
thanks

does this work with Mac as well?
Hi everyone. Does anyone have a mokey's step be step guide to setting up my Touch HD as a modem with vodafone. Instructions for both the phone and my laptop running windows XP with a USB wire connection would be greatly appreciated.
I can connect to the internet wih the phone just cannot set it up as a modem for my laptop - driving me to despair.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - Phone on UK vodafone.

here are plenty of guides
Hi
Thanks but no info on my issue there, might seem a rather basic problem for this forum but this is causing me a real headache.
Cheers
I used to use my old HP 6300 as a dial-up modem a few times and when I moved to a Wizard and now a Kaiser I wanted the same ability. You need ModemLink in your ROM (or installed from a .cab file). You also need the HTC USB Modem drivers installed on your PC.
You need to activate ModemLink and then install the drivers onto your PC. You should then have a new COM port and attached to this a HTC USB Modem. You need to change the CSD Line Type to get it to call 'real' analogue lines because by default it is set to v.110, set it to v.32 or v.34.
I have ModemLink (& Internet Sharing) cooked into my ROM and have probably only used ModemLink a couple of times. It does work though.

I'm interested too.
I hate ICS because I can't remotely control my device.
Also, it's simple to get automatical internet connection if device is used as modem.
Nokia in this is really better imho.

Really? I'm sorry but I can't remember.
However I tried just yesterday ModemLink app but it can't work on my touch hd. When I start the app it doesn't anything. I tried also WirelessModem where I can choose to use USB interface but WXP can't recognize the device as a usb modem. I tried anything but with no results.
Please can you update me?
So do you really want to use it as a modem, or do you want internet sharing? You used the word "modem," but from your description, it sounds like you really want to share the internet connection of your phone with your computer. Or do you actually have an ISP or some other service that you want to call? There is no internet sharing app on the touch HD? Try ICS Control maybe?

I really like to use my device as modem.
I'd like to go to Network Connection in WinXP and double click on a network link and push on "connect" button, compose *99# and go to surf the web.

Does it have wireless? If you use ICS control, and use the wireless to share the intenret, you can use active sync on the usb connection for remote control.

Hi Rudegear, your link points to sort of nowhere?
Hi! I have a small question:
I have a Desktop Computer (with Internet conection), HTC Diamond and a Laptop. Now, How can i share Internet conection from Desktop to my laptop via HTC DIamond?
(I mean make the HTC Diamond as wifi access point)
Thanks for reading!
I searched and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407563
Hope it helps,
I've try to read all the thread, try some soft but i found nothing could help me.
Download a program called WMwifirouter.
It gives you the option to share 3G, cable internet, and wifi on the phone via cable, wifi, or bluetooth. So any input can be shared through your selected output. After you install, run activesync on your desktop and connect your diamond. Check to see if your diamond now has internet access. If it does, run the WMwifirouter program and select how you want to share your internet (in your case WIFI).
The program is a shareware, try it if it works for you then buy it.
Let me know if it works for you.
Can u tell me which share type i will choose?
- usb to wifi
- wifi to usb
or...
I connected the Diamond with AC. I can connect to the internet by Diamond. I've try all the choice but it isn't work! May be I did something wrong... Can you help me?
ps: English isn't my language, so that, if u don't understand me, please tell me. Thank you !
Hi there!
At home I have a Wifi connection, and obviously, I would like my Leo to connect to the Internet through my Wifi connection if available. If not available (because I'm somewhere else) then I'd like to get connected through my Mobile Operator.
The thing is: it would try to connect via WiFi and if that didn't work it would try the mobile network.
Is that possible? I mean, is there a setting called "Wifi Preferred over 3G"?
I haven't been able to find something like that.
Thanks in advance.
If this option does not exist, do I have to believe that the HD2 has what I'm asking as default?
Only way would be to have WiFi turned on constantly so when you're in range of a network it'll connect to it...battery would die, though
i believe there is a mortscript or some little app that can control the radio - when you are near your home's 3G cell-site it can run a script to enable wifi to pick up your home connection. i cant remember the name, but it is out there!!!
hi,
for automatic switching look out for apps like phoneweaver, gprofile oder phonealarm. i think they all can do the job for you, and a hole bunch of other things to.
regards mad
Thank you! I'll have a look at these programs.
Easier way to see how it works: I installed Spb Wireless Monitor 3.1: It tells your data transfer under Wifi, GPRS, USB, WAP...
I'll post an answer when I got everything checked.
Cheers!
NoData
Don't have my Leo as yet so not sure if it'll work, but try this NoData.
It works on the Blackstone...
Try installing WMLongLife.
yeap... I agree...Spb Wireless Monitor 3.1 is what you need bro...
Hey everyone! I've been using NFSFAN's Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM on my HTC Touch for quite some time now. I want to use the built in tethering function. The problem is that in the Internet Sharing menu, I can't touch/select the 'Connect' button for neither the USB nor the Bluetooth connection. I think it was working before I installed Bell's Carrier cab.
Do you know any registry tweeks, or software that can help?
EDIT: Now I'm using IntrShrUI, but after a couple of seconds, the device connects in Disk Drive mode How can I disable that?

Have you made sure the screen doesn't time-out?
This was one of my favourite features.
