I have a SX-56 with AT&T. As many of you know, AT&T service has gotten pretty bad and they are no longer adding sites that use 1900. T-mobile still services 1900. My questions are the following:
1. Should I unlock the phone so that I can have T-mobile service. I have read posts where the AT&T rom does not work well with T-mobile service.
2. Have any of you done this in Southern California and experienced problems?
3. Also considering upgrading to PPC 2003 but I've read posts of damaged roms. Really can't afford to lose my phone till I get a new one. Should I upgrade before or after unlocking?
I am new to a PPC phone but have used a PPC for a while. I do not understand the terminology with cooking roms and such. If someone can break this down for me in very easy to understand information, it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Your current RSU can still work with TMO if the device is unlocked. There are 2 ways to unlock:
1. Use the XDAunlock tool. This will keep your current ROM.
2. If the above doesn't work, you have to flash your device with the special edition ROM v1.2 which will unlock your device with the first boot.
Then it will be your decision to stay on PPC2002 or to upgrade to WM2003. ROM flashing is very safe process if you know what ur doing, but stay away as possible from RSU flashing.
Good luck
I havean old 6700 from verizon that I want to switch to alltel. Do I need to find a stock alltel rom in order to activate it or can I use one of the custom ones?
i say you try the altell one first just to make sure
but i think any rom should work
Now, at risk of looking like a total idiot (I swear I did try to search for it), does anybody know where I can GET a stock alltel rom or how to flash it (do I need to unlock it???). I have never installed a STOCK rom before.
Cancel that. Had to downgrade the bootloader from 2.05. Was easy from there.
I've unlocked the ROM and installed the newest sprint ROM, but I don't know what the next step is to make it a sprint phone. can anyone help?
short answer: if it doesn't say sprint, you can't use it
Hey just a quick question, can anybody let me know if a sprint touch can be activated on alltel
Yes it can. You will need to do some work with QPST, SPC, imacokeman unlocker and a stock rom from alltel.
Hello, i just bought a verizon htc trophy and i live in Peru, does someone knows a website where i could unlock free?
also, i read when i flash the phone to a custom ROM the phone free it selfs?
To carrier unlock it, you can call Verizon and ask them to unlock the SIM for international travel, but no guarantees.
To developer unlock or full unlock (using either WP SDK for the first or the DFT HSPL tool) the Trophy you need to follow the various tutorials out there.

They have a number for peru.
0-800-50010
If that doesn't work, just use the live chat at VerizonWireless.com

To have the sim unlock you have to call verizon. There isn't any other way to unlock it unless you pick up an aftermarket sim, which I can't help you with. (I don't know, nor know if they are legal in the US.) They might be able to unlock it depending on how long the last owner had it on their plan.
Besides, its a good PDA. Flash the Norkser 8858 rom and follow the steps for CAB updates in the WP7 Development and Hacking forum.

That not quite how windows phones work. Flashing a different rom, only flashes the OS, not the stuff that directly interacts with the Hardware, e.g. the Radio driver. There is only three radios for the Verizon Trophy and they are all from Verizon, so there isn't much to do. The Radio is what controls the SIM locking, and no one has tried decompiling it, afaik. I'm afraid that you either have to contact the last owner or call verizon. Not much more I can do.
You can try and see if its been already unlocked by inserting your SIM, but chances are that it will prompt you for an unlock code. You can get that from various sites online and pay, or try Verizon for free.
