hey guys, i just got my wing last week, but it feels like my battery life is really low (with moderate use).
i have opentouch 6.5 lite + s2ul and get barely 1 day. could you drop what you guys are getting so i can figure where i stand? and if you have any tips on whats wrong then any advice would be welcome also of course.
thanks all.
I only got my wing about 2 months ago and had been using just the stock ROM that came with it this whole time, id usually get about 2 days out of it. Which is cool considering how much texting i do throughout the day.
Anyhow, Im a total noob at this flashing roms thing, but i just flashed to Open Touch v3.0 Biggy last night, not overclocked though, still running at 201mhz. Its been about 13 hours since i unplugged from a full charge and im down to 69%. I have been constantly fiddling with it since

I'm running open touch 6.5 and I'm overclocked to 283 and i get about 2 to 2.5 days out of it with normal usage.
Is WiFi always on? That'll drain it faster than Speedy Gonzales.
I can get 4 days out of it, but i've got a ridiculous battery.
I depends on what I'm doing. If I'm at work a lot of times I play music over bluetooth to my speakers. If I'm doing that I get about half a day and I'm at 30%. But thats also with texting and web browsing. If I'm not doing any of that I'm I go about 2 days.

4 days???? Do you have a different battery? I would assume it's a little bigger physically?
no actually its stock and its new and 4 days is when i do absolutely nothing with it
Well, duh. If I don't do anything with it, mine lasts 4 days, too. If I actually use it, no more than 2. Much less if I turn on wlan.
heres what i find to help my battery out a lot.
make sure you have wifi on ONLY when you need it, i have it in my home, but don't rly use it every on my wing cuz my laptop works perfectly fine and i feel like the total internet add on is fast enough.
install schaps advanced configuration tool and under power management make sure the first four options are enabled (default is disabled) and then under bluetooth (i dont EVER use bluetooth) disable obex. when you finish it should ask you to soft reset.
if all this ISNT done i notice my battery drain like crazy, but with this it rly does make a lot of a difference. hope this helps

Thanks For [email protected] Tip, But It All Depends On What You Use Your Phone 4. If Im Texting And IMing Alot, Ill Usually Get Thru The Day, But Itll Have Me Worried @ Night If I Have No Charger. But If I Use It Lightly(No AIM) Prolly About 2 Days.
true true
also you should have radio 3.18.90, best battery life with that i have seen. and i can usually get out a couple days with texting, web browsnig, and phone when i have this radio and the schaps tip i mentioned earleir
Depends on what I'm doing, but generally the battery life is somewhere between ok and crappy
I use it for work and personal, so it varies. On the weekend I don't spend that much time on the phone, so it's not bad, easily gets me through the day anyway. During the week, I make and take a lot of calls, do some texting (not much) and send/receive a ton of e-mail on it. So on a bad workday I've drained it almost dead twice. I'm usually either near an outlet or in the car though, so I just keep a charger handy and it works out alright. With the Rom I'm using and my little toys on there it's about as efficient and fun a phone as I've had so far.
Syn
well, i tried configuring with schaps, and battery life did improve a little, but it still only lasts one day. sometimes all i do is text, but still the battery drains so fast. i'm guessing it's the S2UL, as that's the only other factor that i can think of. kinda surprised that someone can reach 4 days, as that would be perfect in my case.. :/

I am having problems with my battery life on HD2.
Currently I use ROM Duttys Leo V2.2 with radio 2.06.51.07, but I tried atleast 10-15 different ROMs and radios (Miri/Laurentius26/Xanny/Sternas ROMs and others with all bases from 1.66 up to 2.10).
I made several tests with tbattery and logged the results, this is what i get (Current values):
- screen off -> -13
- screen on 10% -> -83
- screen on 30% -> -102
- screen on 100% -> -214
The tests were made on 2G connection with max signal, with no data connection.
My battery usually barely lasts 2 days with very light usage, with moderate usage i have to charge the phone every day. Maybe this is normal, I just hope it's not...
Can someone throw up some comparison numbers please? I already wanted to bring the phone back and demand a new one but I am not sure if something is actually wrong with it.
BTW, I use MTTY for flashing and always do a hard reset after the first full boot. Tests were done with a clean ROM install, with no aditional processes running.
verry much like this
anyway its normal im affraid of with moderate use and the end of the day i have about 40% left.
Yes, perfectly normal battery life, sorry to disappoint but that's how it goes with smartphones
It is running a computer spec, that, not even 8 years ago, had to rely on mains power. Not to mention the internet router, the screen, the GPS device, and not least the phone which are all inbuilt. I think running it for a day on a battery is pretty impressive personally.
Thanks for the info guys, I feel much better after reading that battery post from kilrah...
I was sure there is something wrong with my device, but when I look at it from rp-x1's point of view, I guess it's not that bad...

Sorry to put a downer on you, but its the way I look at it. I know it isn't the biggest capacity battery, which does have a bad effect on battery life, but unfortunately it is a computer with a phone, rather than the other way round.
My previous phones:
Nokia 3310 (basic phone) - a week
Nokia 7610 (one of the first proper mainstream "smartphones" by Nokia) - 3 days
Nokia E90 Communicator (their flagship smartphone) - 2 days - at a push
Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - 1.5 - 2 days - at a push
Blackberry Bold 9000 - a few days, if I don't actually use it.
HTC HD2 - 1 - 2 days (dependant on usage)
It seems to be the norm for a smartphone/pocketpc to be around a day to a couple of days on a charge.
To add a bit of perspective, my colleague has an iPhone, and it lasted a whole 3 hours on a single charge when using Exchange Push-Mail. It usually only lasts a day too.
At least on the HD2 you can change battery and go on

so true i bought a battery from ebay ( was only €4 and its almost as good as the original one, it only fits a bit too tight..) i always have a spare fully charged one in my wallet
So I finally got rid of my iPhone 3G (jailbroken on T-Mobile), and got an HD2 instead. I've always liked Windows Mobile phones (and had most iterations), and since now there is finally some capacitative goodness on WM, I jumped on the opportunity.
And I'm regretting it already.
I'm hoping that somebody here has some suggestion that my two days of thread searching, and experimenting didn't cover.
The problem is, yay, .... the damn battery.
I left it on the charger from totally empty to completely full at 2AM. At 8AM, it was down to 85%. Ten minutes of reading e-mails, 74%. The thing is really not usable in this state.
Here are all the things I checked already:
It runs the latest T-Mobile ROM and radio (the one that just came out a few days ago).
Latest version of .NET (3.5.9).
No push e-mail, e-mail checking once per hour, weather checking once per hour.
Strong 3G coverage area, still tried out WMLongLife anyway (with no difference).
Did several cycles of full discharge, recharge.
Always check task manager, not leaving programs running.
Nothing else is set to go online - Live is disabled.
Screen brightness is set at 30%.
All charges done via wall charger.
I read every post I could find, especially fun the ones where people get 4 days of standby, and 6+ hours of heavy use. Short of loading the ARTEMIS ROM, I exhausted all options I could find. And really, it seems like people get decent performance from the stock ROM, so I'd like to stick with that for the moment.
What am I missing?
So frustrating. I can see how this sort of thing would make the average "just user" go run for the Android or Apple hills. No wonder we get stuck with restrictive babysitting technology, when others can't get their **** together. Spend $450 on a phone that can't make it through a half day of reasonable use? Argh!!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
same here
i have all the same problems my batt just sucks i figure i have to just by a new one
hey man, i was like you at first too. all my mates had iphones (i dislike apple in general) i didnt want one. At the time o2 (uk) didnt stock android phones and i had a sony x1 previously. So, i got the hd2 and...like you said was disapointed.
Changed the rom to a custom one here at xda (hdowners btw) which lasts 1.5 days (heavy usage)...never seems to get 2 full days when i use it alot.
installed a few different browsers (opera 9.7 and 10)
installed morphgear (with some amazing landscape skins)
fpsece (i found time crisis to be the only actual playable game)
coreplayer
and found it a awesome phone...changed my views on it. Try some custom roms and see what you think...usually you will go mad installing themes, skins, apps...just go wild and keep the ones you really like/work in a seperate folder. Then reflash and install the best only...thats how i done it and i now love this phone
good luck, im sure the rest of the forum will give you some advice.
wayandrs: The main thing that will help is by upgrading the ROM even if it is to stock 1.66 (the latest UK one available) then you notice a large difference and even more so with some of the cooked ones. Other things to note are the WiFi, make sure it doesn't be left on (and only turn it on if you need it) it proper drains the battery. Without knowing your habbits with your phone it is very hard to come up with decent suggestions that hasn't already been posted elsewhere.
I can safely say I get 2-3 days use out of my device but then I don't use it all that much (anymore), don't forget as it is a new toy for you, you will keep playing with it seeing what it can do, this will soon die down (as it always does) then it will be better.
there must be something wrong with your device or battery.
mine lasts for about 3-4 days while middle use. i think for such a powerful and huge device, this is more than respectable.
heavy use...mh...i would say it lasts minimal 2 days, sometimes more.
did you write a complain to t-mobile?
DN41
The battery will improve after a week or so .
Note : charging your battery the first time for only 6hours isn't much , the first time that i charged my battery i left it charging for 24 hours.
Updating to the latest ROM and Radio helps .
I have two suggestions:
1) Take your phone back to where you bought it and let them deal with it. I get at least a full day with heavy use which is to be expected from a high end device with a 4.3 inch screen. I spent a few dollars on a car charger and an extra wall charger for work, sorted.
2) If you want help on these forums leave out the useless complaining about what a rotten device you have. I think I speak for many contributors of this forum when I say that these kind of posts are getting old and wearisome. You will be more likely to get polite replies with inteligent suggestions if you simply state the problem without moaning about the horrible mistake you made in being seduced into buying an HD2. I have purchased phones that I simply did not care for. I returned them.
First step: Flash a decent ROM with most of the performance/battery tricks in there already. Many of these ROMs are constructed from the best (often most battery efficient) parts of multiple ROMS.
Touch-X, Energy, Artemis, CleanEx, etc. All are excellent (though I favour Touch-X myself for a great utility/preformance/battery balance).
Second step: Flash a good Radio that works well in your area but also works well with the ROM/has decent battery life. You'll need to research this for your chosen ROM.
I use the Korean radio in UK. Good quality/signal/battery life.
Run it for a few days, charging to full and emptying the battery before recharging to full again. Do this for 3/4 days at least.
Those changes alone got me upto 2.5 days standby and 4 hours usage (thats movie playing for 4 hours with 100% backlight in a hotel room). Good for a smartphone and longer than my friends IPhones.
Other small programs like WMLongLife, adjusting down the backlight automatically, added another .5 days to standby (though not much to active use life).

Yes, sorry I fell back on the usual retoric.
I do wonder though if when someone buys a new 'Toy' that they dont hammer it to start with for the 'joy' and never think of the consequences.
I like you, no matter which phone I own, being a businessman and needing maximum performance have a charger at my bedside (the phone is my alarm) and also connect it to the car charger when driving.
I wonder if many of the people that move up from a basic Nokia phone (or similar that can last a week) realise what is involved in powering all the functions they require?
Please don't quote iPhone as it dunt do half!
try elegencia rom v 8.5 and reply back
I use the stock rom 1.66 from the beginning and check my mail automatically every 30 minutes. Now and then I check some websites and download cabs and use HSDPA/3G and WIFI if available. My battery is 100% in the morning and 70 percent in the evening. Not bad at all. The first 12 times I fully charched the battery during the night.
I use Bandswitch, which automatically disables my connection within 30 seconds. This is the most important and useful tip! You don't need a custom ROM to solve the battery drain issue.

+1 - Lovely ROM
it looks like you have not a windows phone before
Thanks.
Thanks for the ROM suggestions. I'll try a few more days of deep cycling the battery to see if that helps - if not, I guess I'll try a custom ROM.
And yea, to those 'get a life' and 'don't complain about Windows phones' posts, whatever. I've owned Windows Mobile phones since they first came out, and it's just frustrating that the out-of-the box usability hasn't gotten any better to this day. Looks at the cool people that actually manage some constructive feedback - they are who make XDA forums great. Thanks guys!
A new 1200 battery is 15 pounds (the official from HTC) as a backup. I personaly have bought the extended battery 2400 and it is great. The default battery doesn't last the full day for me because I use it constinuosly as mp3 player , brownsing and video player. I mean, you have options.
ROM
I'll be trying the Elegancia ROM.
That is, once I find a ROM with 2.8 SPL that works on my 1024 version of the H2, to reflash mine so I can get HSPL to work to flash.
I've always really liked Windows Mobile for its flexibility and massive base of developers ... on the flip side, I've been screwing around with this thing for several days now, trying to get a phone that can last through a day. Ahhh, the bittersweet experience that is WM.
I get at most 2 days combined cycle out of my stanard battery and i've had my phone for about 10 days. It came with the stock 1.66 rom but i've run through the tips and tweaks threads so the phone ui is faster and a bit more usable. One of those is a replacement task manager that disables smart minimize in favour of actually closing programs. I've also set the weather software to update every 3 hours because tbh you don't need it to be any more often than that. I do use the wifi alot but i do turn it off when i'm not using the phone. i have also noticed with my phone is if the wifi is connected to an access point for more than 5 minutes it will automatically disable the 3G connection and turn it back on when the wifi is disabled.
for the first couple of days i was completely discharging the battery and then charging it for about 12 hours. this seems to have been the most beneficial. i also will not put it on charge unless it really needs it.
hi, from experience, 3G medium usuage.. 4/5 a day.
If you disconect the 3G connection when not using, it will help.
And of course if you go on GSM instead, one day is not difficult..
battery killer :
1) constant 3G activity
2) Watching video. Worst, video on 3G !
3) games, especially the 3Ds ones or high on processing like the Tower simulation game.
4) bright screen
5) bluetooth
From my experience, from a fresh flash, my battery improves as I get to use it longer and longer.
take a look at your data sync like weather and stock and also check the social networking sync.
Been reading on here about people moaning about there HD2's and i got to say when i first had it i had the 1.48 rom and had issue's...
But a bit of reading mostly on this forum and a custom rom later and my HD2 has been perfect...
I've had no issue's really, occasional glitches but nothing other than that..
Well happy and for what i do its perfect there really is nothing else i would rather have...
So my point is have i just been really lucky and had a good HD2 are there bad ones out there ?
Or are people creating there own issue's by tinkering too much or in some cases too little, pretty much i've just put a rom on and apps that i like i use my HD2 a lot obviously for talking, texting and web browsing and i can't remember the last time i had to reset the device, last night i checked the battery after a full day use 60%, seems pretty good to me...
So am i just lucky ?

yes yes and yes.
i have been really happy with my HD2 as well. did the official vodaphone rom upgrade which was really easy. have a few apps on it. mainly use if for co-pilot, memory map, e books, music and movies. oh and as a phone as well lol.
cant recall any major probs at all. occasionally have a situation where the battery drains quite quickly, but i think that is when the phone has to range for a signal when reception is bad. its not a regular thing though and generally get a couple of days before a charge is needed. i was lucky to get a days use out of my i900.
i agree that too much playing with the system may result in poor performance in some areas. its a bit like playing with the chip in ya car, go for better performance and watch the gas milage go down.
my only gripe is the lack of flash in opera which is not to do with the phone really but to do with the browser itself.
Mike
It seems to me that you got the best Radioversion for your phone.
Everybody that owns a HD2 are lucky
You say that your battery stays at 60% after a whole day of usage, is that with heavy usage?
Somketimes I'm lucky, and yet sometimes phantom issues just turn up...
I have been a happy flasher on different phones for two/three years, so I know what I'm doing. With the HD2, I purposely stuck on Stock for as long as possible (three months), more of an experiment than anything, and Stock wasn't bad, but the Texting issues were too much in the end.
My first two ROMs were not 'big name' ROMs, and tbh they were flawed - odd graphics missing in manilla, very slow at times, loads of quirks and irritations. But i chose to try them as i knew I'd end up on a well-developed ROM and be unwilling to flash again for a few months.
I just tried MaxSense but it's too buggy for now, although I expected that.
I'm reasonably happy with Energy's CHT ROM this past week, but even now I've had the occasional phone turning off, the alarm doesn't sound if my phone's on mute, but if I want it on loud I have to turn off my email alerts during the night, texting is still a b*tch (I'm tempted to get a dump-phone just for a T9 keyboard), and as ever I still feel like my phone is work in progress.
*All those flaws I've pointed above I'm sure I can fix by going through some threads, but the point remains I just want a decent experience and enjoy using my phone, not spend my life looking for solutions. I love my HD2 but at the end of the day it's a phone ffs!
Anyway, there's my over-long take on it!

I would say average usage, quite a few calls and texts i organise stuff so send group texts 25 at a time, and about 3 hours browsing on the net via wifi in the evening...
If i've hardly used the phone its closer to 75% at the end of the day although when i'm playing with it as in putting apps etc on that might require a restart the battery life drops a lot...
I always have the wifi off and bluetooth and 3g...

Ok. Well I got wifi on all day, same with bluetooth, 3g and Data conection. And Im quite a heavy user.I use the browser a few times a day I send at least 100 text-messages a day and Im always logged in to Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date. Although my battery is between 20-10% when i go to bed, and Im more than happy with that
Im able to run my phone for over 20 hours with sync and data on.
How I managed it:
1. Deleted almost every app
2. Flashed 8/25
3. Switched to Launcher Pro
4. Go to CyanogenMod Settings>User Interface> Automatic Backlight> Enable
5. Go to Spare Parts> End Button behavior > Set Go to Sleep
5. Wiped dalvik cache
6. Recharged to full
7. While at 100% charging, wiped battery stats
8. Unplug and let the phone drain to 0% (let it turn off)
9. Recharge and enojoy
If succesfull backup
Im using the stock kerned with NO battery tweak. I tried it but since I didnt see any improvement I took it out. 8/25 is amazingly fast with launcher Pro so I dont see the point in changing anything else to my Hero. Now I only install Apps that I really want or that wont keep my phone awake. I use pure calendar, handcent, beautiful widgets...stuff like that
Now after 10 months of use im really enjoying my HERO. I hope this helps those of you that are trying to improve your battery life.

genius.

Im no expert but I figured I had to uninstall them before flashing
How I got 70+ hours of battery
1. Used CM6 Nightly
2. Used TweakTool(still in development http://tweaktool.com but it is the same as collin_ph's battery tweak essentially)
3. Used Decad3nce's experimental BFS kernel
4. Left 3g off unless I needed it
5. ????
6. PROFIT
I have 3g on all the time
The best I have pulled on my phone was 32 hours with twenty percent left this was with light to avg use with 3g turned off, unless o needed it....
I was on nightly 8/24 with uncapped kernel #8

Why? You can use an app like JuiceDefender to set it to turn on every 5 or 10 minutes to allow updates and set it to keep 3g on when the screen is on, could save you some battery
Sounds good ill try it. Thanks

Juice defender destroyed my phones battery life, even when I configured it all, it just drained, drained, drained.
Auto brightness is a waste of battery to me, i set it to 30% and forget it.
My phone makes it through the day, thats all I need. About 30% at 10 pm, off the charger at 7am.

Same here. With Juice Defender I was lucky if my charge held through my lunch break at work.
The biggest battery save for me is to turn off 3G until I have to use it. By the time I go to bed I still have 40-50 percent charge on my phone.
Tried juice defender for around 5 hours and didn't work. At 30% said I had 2 more hours left. During the first hour after setup it drained 9%. That's a lot. Uninstalled

Well fear not citizens, for soon, tweaktool will be released (hopefully soon, depends on how much time i have laying around to program it) and will work for any phone, any rom, etc. Also gonna have new features eventually like 3g off when screen off, and a few other things, spread the word http://tweaktool.com
strange I've always had good luck with juice defender. Lately though with how well cm6 is on the battery I've been setting juice defender to only shut off 3g when the screens off and turn it on every hour for 5 minutes to update. My batter life is pretty amazing right now.

man you must have a crappy battery then. all i id was turn my 3g off when i dont need it. I had wifi going, gps going(and used both quite a bit). Hi guys i know there are lots of similar posts about battery life etc but cant find the answer im looking for after a search of this forum as all answers seem to be on rooted devices, she does not want her x8 rooted and im really getting it in the neck for upgrading her in the first place lol.
My girlfriend recently got the 2.1-update 1 via pc companion and thats when the battery problems started. The battery drain problem has actually been getting progressively worse since this. This morning (after yet another full night charging 100%) after 30 mins of getting up today the battery was down to 83 %. I have already uninstalled maps updates, not that she ever used it anyway.
So my question is : is there a solution to this without rooting and/or having a custom ROM? becuase she making my life a misery lol.
Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the similar post

Well, 1st thing as Dx said. reboot after using wifi, 3g, music. reboot to make everything fresh.. but there's no other way to save battery without rooting I think. because I helped my gf installed a custom ROM for her and she said that the battery life changed, and it's way different than a original ROM. How come she doesn't wanna go custom? Sorry for my bad english.
Right tweaks only applies in rooted phone

Agree with you!
Nah, rooting makes the difference. IMO Froyo ROMs have good battery life.
Well i think she might well have to go custom because the battery life is a joke now, nearly rendering her device unusable, think she just frightened cos i did her pc companion update and kinda blames me for the crap battery now, il have a read around the x8 forum on how to root.
Thanks everyone, apreciate it
Just try to keep off all things you don't need: Wifi, Bluetooth, Synchronization, 3G. also unninstall apps you don't need and do not use app killers to save RAM.
I think that is all you can do without rooting.

My friend, less RAM is actually a good thing. I've read through the web. just don't auto kill ALL the apps, kill those apps that when it doesn't look right or freezes. The more RAM you freed, the more battery it will drain. Serious.

I'm just a noob trying to help.
use a task killer and disable all what you don't need like bluetooth, data traffic, gps and wifi. yes i know my english is bad^^
disable wifi, gps, bluetooth and data traffic. stock 2.1update rom should get you about 3 days with those disabled. any apps that need them will ask you to switch them on again anyway. It's a little annoying to get used to at first especially when you're used to a fone that lasts a week without charge so I can understand how she feels especially if she only wants to text and do a few calls.
If you don't use wifi, 3g gps and rest of the s**t you should probbably buy a dumy phone.
With some "normal" usage you can be happy if it lasts for a day/day and a half.
2-3 is really success.
You do get a charger in the box with the phone you know?
Use your phone, stop wasting time on battery monitoring.

yeah but the idea is it's a MOBILE fone.. You dont want it plugged into the damn socket all the time!
If you need to use the GPS, WIFI etc. the app will ask you to switch it on so wheres the harm in turning it all off until it's required if it saves having to plug the thing in every day?!?
Nobody stated you should keep all the functions on.
But it should be understandable that, with some "normal" use, and by normal I mean regular texting, phonecalls, check facebook/twitter, refresh weather app, read mail and some news maybe you can't expect your battery to last 7 days like on dummy nokia.
Besides, you all forget that your biggest battery killer is the screen.
And another thing I noticed; when LED starts to glow green, your battery isn't fully charged. Check phone status. It becomes green after passing 90% I think, or so.
And the second thing I noticed is a HUGE differenc when charging the phone while it's on, for a hour and a half when the battery metter reaches 100% and when I turn it off and leave it charging over night.
The "night" option proved to be a lot better (battery lasts longer, doesn't fall so fast) + Every once in a while it is good to fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it.

Yeah, but that mobile phones have long since ceased to be just phones.
Switch off everything you can : wifi, brighteness, gps etc. Also you can make a profile "screen off " in setcpu and set it to 122mhz . it will save you a lot of battery! It drains just 1% after 5 hours ( but i didnt use my phone) . Hope it help.
Oh yeah and use the app called " fast reboot " it is so good is well and it speed up our lovely x8
When i used these things , my phone lasts in a week or more of.course i nearly didnt use my phone.

Seeing as I don't have enough posts to post over in the development forum, I thought I'd hijack this thread.
I installed this rom last week and at first, the batter was brilliant. It lasted for three days but now I have to charge it twice a day. I have bluetooth off, wifi off more often than not, brightness down very low.
The phone was 5hrs on battery and was down to 44%.
Cell Standby: 35%
Display: 20%
Phone Idle: 19%
Launcher Pro: 13%
Anyone have any ideas?
I also experienced the same problem ... especially with the overclocked conditions
