Which WM6 to install? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

Hi,
I have a WM6.11 release I installed on my SPV in April. No problems to date. But I was wondering what the 'best' one to update to is nowadays? I use the WiFi (internet) and BT (gps) facilities the most..
Thanks,
Steve

A difficult question?
There's Xplode, Sundream, pv dvh...
which one of these is most stable and quick?

I think it really comes down to personal preference, and hardware differences. I've heard good things about each one. I think I've had the least amount of troubles with Xplode's and the one from the wiki's wizard.
I'm personally trying to figure out how to cook my own ROM so it has only what I want, but so far I've only figured out how to customize the extended rom file on my storage card.
There are so many different threads that explain bits and pieces on how to cook ROMs, and the wiki seems to tell different approaches that conflict with one another or something. So it's awefully confusing and it doesn't help that I can't get upgrading ROMs to work on my Vista machines at home.

How about which release has the most up-to-date code base?
Followed by which release is the most stable?
Thanks.

Ok. Have settled on Xplode's v20273 release.
Very impressed with it!
Thanks
Xplode

The current release of WM6 AKU 0.3 has some niggling problems, however, it's a good update in any case. If you're a little scared of going that far, and don't want to spend too long tweaking your device tho, take the 3.3 Final.
Both are just as recommended at the moment.

^ True, but it's kind of a downgrade to me, for now. I did lose my ability to read SDHCs and install a chinese IME, you know. <_<

Most stable and fast WM6 ROM for the Vario?

Hi,
Can someone tell me which WM6 ROM for the Vario is the most stable and fast one at this moment.
I'm not really interested any tools that are integrated in the ROM, just the most table and fast ROM.
I'm using a dutch WM6 ROM at tis moment but there is something wrong with it: it keeps on asking me align the screen every time I boot.
Thanks for your advice.
I like the TNT series
i usually get the official one because it comes with the least amount of software and i pretty much customize it from there
Here is his latest release
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328917
ur nt suppose to post these questions. It says somewhere in the forums. I asked a similar questionn, and a moderator had it removed and told me not to pst things that have to do with :which ROM is best" and things like that
Hi, I had the same problem, after each soft reset and every time I turned off my mda Ihad to calibrate. In the folder /windows/opstarten is a file called welcome.lnk if you remove this the problem is gone. BTW i am using the HTC rom.
There is actually a STICKY regarding which rom is the best blah blah blah...also, in the wiki are some rom linky's with some minor comparison notes. Stickies and wiki really are your friends.

Now to answer your question...I personally LOVE Jaguar...but each rom has it's quirks. Based on purely stable and fast and absolutely nothing else...TNT is a good rom, it just didn't fit MY needs. Jag is really stable but not as fast. Roms, like art, are subjective to individual tastes. What I like you may hate and vice versa.

Your Opinions please! (tried searching!)

Hey folks,
I've tried searching and there's no forthcoming result on this (despite that I suspect it *must* have been covered somewhere) - perhaps it's my dyslexia?
Anyway:
I'm now ready to install a WM6 ROM on my currently WM5 hermes from Tmobile.
I'm looking for people's opinions as to whether it's worth my while and what the performance differences are? (obviously it's a lot of work getting things set up again so I want to be sure it's worthwhile).
Is WM6 running slower on hermes that WM5? or faster?
Has anyone a ROM they would reccomend? Else I'll go with the Tmobile standard.
So opinions please!
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it!
cmon!!! you cant be serious!!!!
ppl are looking to upgrade their devices to wm6.1 and you want us to compare wm5 to wm6? i mean seriously......look at every device thread, even the older devices, you can practically see wm6/6.1 for almost every single devices, even devices which are waaaay older than wm6. and you probaby wont find anyone getting excited over any wm5 releases anywhere.......doesnt that tell you something?/
if you searched hard enough, you could probably find someone who compared the performance of wm5 to wm6 but those will probably be with older builds of wm6, and those just dont compare with the current builds. your best bet i would say is to try it out urself, its not that hard.
I know it's not that hard to test it - I'm already running it on my blue-angel.
And it's running well.
But comparing hermes to blue angel is comparing apples to oranges.
It's a *huge* amount of work doing the upgrade. Not the actual upgrade. That's, as you say, rediculously easy. But installing 20/30 medical textbooks? dozens of other programs, fixing out my network setup on it....
these take hours, and in a casual not setting hours aside for it fashion a couple of weeks.
So I'm understandibly not wanting to take the risk and plung in until I'm sure it'll be worthwhile.
Anyone got any experience? Has WM6 upgraded the speed? or is the slight graphical revamp a strain on the processor?
Also should I go with tmobile's own ROMs for WM6 or a community alternative?
Opinions pretty pretty please to save me hours of work!
2 words.......user customization
there truly is a HUGE diffrence between wm5 and wm6/6.1. i would recomend going with a WM6.1 build from the get go considering all the programs you say you load on your hermes.
I am currently using the DVH Rom build 19400(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387516 ). I find it to be the fastest, loaded but not bloated, and honestly is the best i've used in quit some time. He has apparently released a new rom (build 19701) but i have yet to try it out. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388747)
best of luck
molesaied88, TRY 19701, ITS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!Quick and VERY stable... I love it.
Thanks folks.
Sorry I took ages to reply i had exams! Right so you guys are advocating using a custom home cooked WM6 Rom rather than an original one?
(I'm assuming these are faster? Are they fully featured though?)
Now I'll need to decide whether to go with Ultra or molesaid's suggestion. Anyone know which is currently running more spritely?
Again thanks again! I know the forum must be deluged with this kind of stuff
I have found WM6 to be much, much more stable than when I had WM5. Not as many lock ups of freezing as before. I used to have to soft reset my phone all the time because of lock ups, but with WM6 I rarely reset my phone anymore.
I would say that stability and the larger pool of programs for it made WM6 the choice for me.

Hermes - Alternative OS

Hi, I've had a Hermes running WM5 for a while until I got fed up with the usual crashes and some other performance issues. A few days ago I installed WM6 and though it has some interesting new features it's still a little bit heavy and I'd rather have better performance than a pretty interface.
Can someone recommend some good ROMs or alternative OSs for the Hermes? Maybe some tweaks to improve speed... For example: it takes way to long to load the contact list or show who's calling when a call comes in.
I've been waiting for Ubuntu Mobile and/or Android to come out but apparently those will take some more time...
If you are running a stock rom thats probably you're problem. They are full of "Bloat" apps for your carrier. First thing is (if you're not sure its unlocked) unlock your Hermes with the unlocker v3a on the upgrading thread. Then Hard SPL your Phone on the same forum - Hard SPL, or how not to brick your hermes (this will void warranty) and then pick a lite rom or rom you like off the forum. I personally like PDAViets roms as they are VERY fast. If you aren't used to flashing and want stability look at the wm6 roms and not the wm6.1 roms as there are issues being reported by others...
Cheers....
Thanks, I actually flashed the device a few days ago with WM6 Black 3.0 or something like that... It's kinda heavy
I did the HardSPL upgrade before flashing and all went ok. What I haven't done is upgrading the radio. What's the object of upgrading that?
Anyway, I'll give PDAViets a shot!
The black roms are fairly old now and I haven't seen any in developement. Would try either schaps, pays, Binky11, CRC's, PDA corner...... the list goes on. As I said, I tend to favour PDAViet.
As for the radio, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". This is the part of rom upgrading that produces the most bricks... If you find no problem with your radio, its advisable to leave it alone. Changing to the latest ISN'T always the best as they tend to be better or worse depending on your carrier. If you can see what the latest radio rom is that your carrier is using you MIGHT upgrade to that BUT try not to flash this too often... You have been warned.....
Have fun and happy upgrading...
Cheers...

Why there is no sticky post, which contain in its first message, all the latest versions of all the ROMs available in the forum ?
It can be updated from time to time, and always contain the latest versions of all the roms available in the forum.
if there's allot of maintaince to do, at least it can contain links to posts, which the ROM owner can update.
If there's already such a post, I'd be very happy to get the link...
Most of the roms on the site are in developement. They are made by people who are curiose to see what they can do and who may have a certain need from their os. They are nice enough to share their hard work with the rest of the community and for this we thank them profusely...
The only way you can be sure of finding the rom you want is to keep your eyes peeled on the "Hermes wm6" part of the forum. Find out who makes the roms you like then do a search for those.. They're ALL floating around here somewhere...
Cheers....

[Q] Best WP7 Rom for HD2???

Hi guys there's been a lot of movement in WP7 development for the HD2, I just wonder which is the best WP7 rom, that you guys have tried.
Thanks for your feedback.
I tried some custom ROMs. My favorite is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953078. really a top Rom, fast, no bugs found, and all were detected sd cards
It's honestly tiring reading these posts, why don't you just simply try out each rom and judge for yourself which is the best for you?
I'm not bagging on you but is it too much trouble to use 2-3 minute to flash a new rom? Find one out there that you think suits you the best because everybody has a personal preference.
Sorry bazinga I just think that it takes 2-3 minutes plus a little more time to really evaluate the features of a rom, you know, battery drainage, wi-fi, among others, that’s why I’m asking to the people of this awesome forum to help me with their experiences. That's all.

Oh in that case, I personally use Football's WP7 Rom.
With the battery registry tweak and using the 2.12 radio (on the TMOUS HD2), I've been getting pretty decent battery life, somewhere around ~60% after moderate use over 12 hours. The Wi-fi works flawless as it can connect to both secure and open networks. Phone and SMS works as usual and the zune integration is such a nice feature. Get an activation from M$ to start using all live features.
I haven't switched to other roms, although at least 4 have popped up this week, because there simply isn't a way to backup/restore SMS and other apps after flashing a rom. For you, you should check out the other ones but for now, I'll stick to Football's rom. No problems for me
I've tried a couple roms, but to be honest, they're all pretty much the same. There's not much to be changed in wp7 yet, and all the custom roms have the same tweaks and fixes done to them. The only one that seems a little different is XBoxmod's rom, as he does some changes to the icons, so I've been sticking with his rom because he seems to know more about the inner workings and tweaks for wp7. He also has a stock version available.
I don't really see the point of all these other people releasing roms that are no different from roms already out except maybe having a different lock screen.... but hopefully as things are learned, the different roms will become more customized.

i agree
Thank you so much guys for your fast and useful response, now I have a clearer view about the WP7 roms for the HD2.
Thanks again .
I've tried quite a few and currently running one (HD7 T3982 or something) which is pretty good, the builtin jailbreak helps as Chevron no longer works on the cpotulla nand...having said that, the original is much faster and to my eyes, has supoerior colours, might be first love syndrome.-)
