PocketPC 2003 Programming...

What is the very basic programming in making applications to wm2003? like visualbasic 6.0 in the PC in there visual basic for pocket pc? Thanks Where can i get it?
there is visual studio 2003 .net
Hi,
I have started to code quite a bit for Windows Mobile 2003 and have not looked back )
You can try several different routes, the easiest and least expensive is to download the Micrsoft WM2003 SDK from their site (easier to do a google search for Windows Mobile 2003 SDK). You will need to download the SDK(s) as well as either eVB or eVC (eVB is your best option as its very similar to Visual Basic), however these tools are still quite 'hardcore' and require a fair amount of investment from you.
In addition to eVB you can try AppForge for Visual Basic 6.0 which plug's into VB6 and allows you create feature rich WM2003 applications, AppForge also installs a Booster tool on your Pocket PC device which greatly enhances he speed of the the VB apps.
The best route in my opinion is to download the Visual Studio 2005 Express Beta tools. Microsoft took Visual Studio.NET 2003 and updated allot of the tool sets, added more Mobile Device support and split up the different modules (so you will have to download what you need, i.e VB.NET Express). If you have the money you can fork out for the professional version of Visual Studio.NET 2003 which includes fulll support of Pocket PC/Windows Mobile 2003 & Smartphone devices (some through the download of the correct SDK, VS.NET can use emulators to run apps through the IDE without the need for a physical device docked with the main host).
Finally, to imporve your VB.NET coding experience and make the job of developing Pocket PC/Windows Mible 2003 apps, you can purchase (download available) a copy of AppForge CrossFire for .NET which allows you to use the Visual Studio.NET Visual Basic or C# languages.
Personally, I code nearly all of my Pocket PC apps in Visual Studio.NET 2003 using the C# lnaguage (I an one of the rare people who love C proramming)..
Cheers,
Taz
Wow.. I started this thread since sept 23 and got a new reply now.. this is a dead thread but you revived it.. thanx for your help now im currently donwloading the SDK... Thanx

Visual Studio.NET 2003 - Developing for XDA II (screen size)

Hi,
I am in the process of converting some of my Pocket PC 2002 apps to Pocket PC 2003 and I noticed the applications appear in the wrong place for the XDA II.
I have worked out the XDA II screen is a different size to my Dell Axim device, does anyone know what the exact screen size is (in pixels) for the XDA II please?
*I recommend Visual Stdio.NET 2003 to anyone who is thinking of developing applications for the XDA II device, VS.NET 2003 is very easy to use and you can have an application up and running within an hour*
Cheers,
Taz
and better yet with 2005 which is still beta
you can also program to the pda's without
.net if you dont want to something which you
need eMbedded visual studio to do today

Developing Apps for my O2 XDA IIs (Blue Angel)

I've just aquired an Blue Angel O2 XDA IIs, as an .net programmer i've had experience of w32 applications, but not PPC.
Can anyone point me in the direction to create applications that will access features such as my wireless/bluetooth/phone/sms.
Any documentation/examples etc.
Kind regards
Gav
MSDN, eVC or VS2005beta2 samples.
To program BT you'll need Widcomm SDK that is about 1600$ and there is no free or stolen versions in net.
well i'm using vs.net 2003 Enterprise...
Just some samples really. Especially for the phone side of things. I purchased this to continue my experience in .net development.
i've got vs2005 beta 2.0 dvd from ms, but don't really like using it. I prefere using 2003.
Cheers
Gav

Hi,
i'm not a developer but i can say that Java J2ME is not very used on pocketpc platform (many PPC do not even have any java support). If you wanna develop managed code then go for .Net (vb or c#) or you can make native applications in c++. The problem is you'll need to buy MS Visual Studio (unluckily, the free Visual Studio Express doesn't support mobile devices). AFAIK
Bye
try using search for J2ME
you'll find tons of posts about it
most likely an url to where you can download the wm too

Thnx bro. for the reply... Is there any other compiler/programs?
maybe you should look at mono not sure if they do compactframework too though
check it out
or embedded visual c++
or gcc compiler
all are free
or you could make java midlets like on symbian but they are a bit limited in the midlet managers on ppc though
