I was trying to tether to my laptop today and it seems that my laptop does not see the USB connection. I set my phone to internet sharing and connection of usb and phone as modem I then press connect it goes out and connects to evdo then it says check usb cable connnection. I then plug into my usb cable. Nothing happens except my charging light comes on. I know my phone works as I just tried it out on my co-workers laptop same procedure same cable and it connects without issue. I just downloaded the wmodem.zip installed it same issue. I Also tried to connect it first before I go to internet sharing. It connects to active sync then I start the connection and active sync goes away but I get the same message on my phone "check usb cable connection".
Bluetooth?
I had the same problem with mine and the usb connection. I think it needs drivers. if you look in device manager you might see a device with out drivers. If your buddys works find out what driver it's using..
I just use bluetooth. it works great if you have it.
Figured it out. In my network connections window when my phone would connect it would appear here under LAN or high speed internet connection. but it was in a disabled state so I enabled it and works like a charm.
Thanks for everyones help!

Does it see your wireless router?
Have you connected wirelessly with any other computers?
when its not connected to my computer i creat a new connection and i try to connect to it and the connection i connect to on my computer flashes on the screen, so its there i guess i just cant get to it i guess, when its connected to my computer i can see 3 diffrent connections but when im not connected i can't..
If you are trying to connect wireless to a router with a titan it should be as simple as turning the wifi switch on.
also you need to change the power mode under settings connection.wirelesslan. power mode to best performance. nothing else works but best performance
Yes, it's set on best performance, and I have a Mogul 6800, I have my modem in my office, and my computer in my room, when I disconnect my phone form my computer the internet cuts off on my phone, when I try to connect when it's disconnected to my computer it says unavalible..
I'm having this problem since a while now, cant connect my Jamin ( Prophet ) to internet via usb. it gives me some network setting error on prophet. tried to disable usb to pc advance settings ... didn't worked ...
any help ??
If you're Prophet works anything like my Kaiser, then you do need to switch on the 'internet sharing' on your device, and set it to connect via usb.
If you can't connect to the internet via usb, have you considered connecting via bluetooth?
That probably won't help, but who knows...

I've never been able to connect to the internet through USB on my Kaiser, even using the internet sharing application. The computer finds the device, but never the proper drivers to make it work. I can make it share over BT or WiFi with no problems.

Thats interesting, Jay.
May I ask if you're using a relatively new computer? I'm using a quite expensive 3-4 month Windows Vista Laptop which never required me to download any drivers to connect my laptop to the internet via internet sharing.
What you can do is try searching online for suitable drivers to install according to your computer model and make.
But hey, even if you don't find the drivers you want, know that using internet sharing via 'bluetooth' and not 'USB' is the best option. The reason why I say this is because the internet connection on your device will literally drain your battery real quick. That means that if you're connecting your phone via USB, you cannot connect your device to be charged as there is only 1 USB slot.
Now with internet sharing via bluetooth, you can keep the bluetooth and internet on which also drains the battery, but at the same time keep your device charging.
I never use internet sharing via USB but only by Bluetooth.
I have not gotten a straight answer from anyone on this matter. I cannot get a Quick GPS update when connected through the USB cable to my computer. I gives me a "annot connect.please try again later" error. I can connect through WIFI however. I thought the whole point of connecting throuht the USB cable was to use the internet connection from my computer.
Thanks, dhatw.
My wifi connection of my XP laptop gets disturbed/screwed up by connecting my HD by USB. Doesn't matter if it's active sync or diskdrive connection. Only restarting my laptop resolves my connection (no repairing of wireless connection is possible).
My laptop works perfectly fine (wireless ok), my HD works perfectly fine (wireless ok). I only want to transfer files by USB, nothing else. But like I said, the moment when I connect by USB, wireless of laptop doesn't work anymore. Thanks for resolving this case in advance.
Strange
make a switch and transfer the files wirelessly?

In your activesync settings disable "allow wireless connections"
See if that solves your problem.
