OK, I may have missed something along the way, but I remember months ago every one was saying the Shift can not go to Portrait.
However, I was playing around with plug ins, trying to find something that makes the WM side more usable for me and I found the HTC Home Plugin Version 2.1 at:
http://www.pocketemu.com/downloads19.html
(this is one of two of the available downloads, I only used this one)
One of the tab buttons takes you a launcher, which includes the ability to change Portait to Landscape. So I tried it and WOW it worked.
Of course the computer thinks it is currently in Portrait, so when I hit the button I was actually telling it to go to Landscape, but we can not all be perfect.
Of course, the above call be obvious to everyone else who has been paying more attention.
It's well known that the WM can switch to portrait from landscape. I use Quick Menu and it works very well.
The issue is getting Vista to switch between portrait and landscape.

To avoid installing other apps, you use can use mobipocket reader for pocketpc both to read ebooks as well as switch the display orientation. switch the orientation within mobipocket, exit the reader, and voila - wm6 stays switched and rotated.
One other thing on mobipocket is that in full screen mode, tapping on top rightor top left corners (bottom right and bottom left works also) turns the page forward or back without requiring hotkeys to be pressed. Very nice. If you tap too close to the top it gets you out of fullscreen and shows the menu again.
On the vista side its still no joy :-(
The portrait orientation works well under Windows XP (and probably under Vista too), but only for 480x800 resolution. For 600x1024 it does not downscale.
To change between 800x480 and 480x800 (landscape and portrait), you can use iRotate tray utility for example.

Although I tend to use my Jasjar mostly in its native landscape mode, Some programs are still written to operate only in portrait mode. So we have to switch between to two orientations. Yes, the little icon on the bottom right of the today screen will rotate the screen - from Landscape to Portrait (PDA) mode, then from Portrait to INVERTED Landscape mode, then another click to get it back the right way up. I know it is just one more click but it tends to irritate me and I am looking for a way to just switch it to and from the two modes I want.
I can map one of the buttons to the standard <Rotate Screen> option in Settings->Buttons, but that rotates only between Portrait and INVERTED Landscape modes! It will not bring the screen back the right way up.
Maybe there is a registry modification to fix that?
Or, can someone please tell me if there is some software or other way to make the screen switching work the way one would expect on the Universal?
I know SPB Pocket Plus can do it with its <Rotate Landscape Left> option but I don't need PocketPlus for anything else so it seems wasteful to have it installed just to rotate the screen.
I expected this to be a rather common problem but searching through this Universal forum, I could not find an answer or even any discussion on this issue. Am I the only one who thnks this way?
Check out phm keys. I posted a link to it on my website today.

Thanks V, but I can't see any link on your Web Page. Never mind, I searched and found the PHM.lu site and downloaded the msi file from there. But I am not sure if it supports WM5? When I run the msi on the desktop it goes through the motions but nothing appears on the Jasjar. Usually it tells me something is being installed and asks whether it is to go to the SD card or main memory. But nothing happens! Tried it twice. Maybe PHM Keys is not supported on WM5?
Hi,
I want to use my HD in Landscape mode in the car, mostly for Navigation purposes, but sometimes also 'just' as a phone. (I need the landscape mode to have full functionality of Navigon MN7). The Problem is that the TF3D supports only portrait mode. Is there a possibility to (automatically) use a different Landscape-Today-Screen when turning the device and get back to TF3D when turning back to portrait? The Toch pro has a kind of Landscape today-Screen, although it's not TF3D... could there be a possibility to use that somehow? or just any other sensible possibility without switching off tf3d or manually using second today or something?
regards jan
really no one any ideas/suggestions? am i the only one who has that "problem"?
Have you tried GSen or Gyrator 2?
From what I understood it will fit your needs. Search for any of them here on forum.
i know about programs like gsen or gyrator, but that's not the point... the point is that the tf3d today/home screen itself is not available in landscape mode.
Another problem seems to be, that there are certain applications, who change the orientation again.
When I set orientation to landscape and start Navigation, it works as expected. Then a call comes in and the phone application turns everything back to portrait ... no way, to go back to landscape anymore. Is there a way to tell the phone app, not to turn the screen back again?
By the way, on the touch diamond the phone app runs in landscape, when this is the actual orientation ...

i believe you just answered your own question.
if you look at the raphael, the landscape mode requires an entirely different set of graphics and frames and layouts. it is not a simple rotate of the portrait view. On HD, that set of graphics, and frames do not exist. I _believe_ even if the GSEN or gyrator will rotate the homescreen to landscape, you would get some pretty ugly results. i haven't tried myself.
Yep it's like an untuned tv on the right. I really like it
Having said that if anyone does port the graphics...
This is the deal breaker for me.
The lack of keyboard will be better if I can make the screen horizontal as I do on my TyTn II. My screen is permanently on ladnscape mode.
As it looks better and there is no lag when switching.
Possible on the HTC Touch HD?
From the manual I read online and playing with it at the store I think its not possible.
Any info?
Thanks
Solution:
To remain constantly in landscapde mode:
You will need to rotate the screen and switch the phone dialer menu(screen) from the default HTC one to the WM dialer menu.
There are plenty of ways to rotate the screen and one way to switch from HTC dialer to WM.
N.B: You must disable the HTC Touch Flow 3d home menu by deselecting from the Home menu in settings.
To change to WM dialer from HTC dialer:
1- Download and install HD Tweak (thanks montecristoff & co.)
2- Use it to change the dialer to WM dialer.
To rotate the screen:
* Search on the forum for the registry tweak to make the option of selecting either landscape or portrait appear. Then go to Start/Settings/Screen and select landscape.
or
Use software like pbar or quickmenu or spb pocketplus to rotate the screen. Obviously pbar or quickmenu are preferable because they are free and very useful (thanks creators).
Cons:
1- With the WM dialer, you loose the ability to make video calls. Its not forever though, you can easily switch to HTC dialer from the HD tweak app.
2- You fore go the HTC Touch Flow 3d home screen. You will probably need to get SPB mobile shell or similar.
Pros:
1- Screen looks damn nice in landscape mode, or as I like to refer to it as wide screen!
2- More text in a more natural perspective. Things dont look so narrow.
3- Typing onscreen is much easier because the virtual keyboard is larger/wider.
I prefer this way because I did not like the way my previous TyTn II (Kaiser) lagged when it rotated from portrait to landscape every time I opened/used the physical keyboard. So I decided to keep it landscape. Turned out to be the best(my) option.
No landscape mode is supported! only TF3D today plugin doesnt support landscape!
so you will not have a problem!
Most software will work in landscape mode - see the FAQ:
"How do I make all applications turn when I rotate the HD?
Not all applications respond to the g-sensor (screen rotation)
There are a number of applications (eg. Gyrator2, GSen) that can help work around this issue. "
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlackstoneFAQ
Not sure which applications work in landscape and which don't though, but you'd get most of them in landscape.
The Keyboard is pretty usable in portrait with such a big screen too.
I want it in landscape mode permanently!
Not with some applications...
Well u can rotate today screen aswell but it wont look as nice.Tobad it rotates back though when u return from an applicaiton to the today screen.
But that should be fixable. Just try to rotate today via the built in rotate setting and u will se how it looks.
It looks a little weird on the right side of the screenshot but it disapperas immedeiately.
I use SPB mobile shell & SPB diary combined as my today screen.
So I wont be using HTC's today screen at all.

thanks a lot.
I could not find the tweak to enable landscape mode.
Something else you could try - install AE Button Plus, map one of the buttons (e.g. volume up) to "rotate screen", rotate the screen to the orientation you want, then re-load AE Button Plus and un-map the button. That should do it? I'm not entirely sure whether this will stick when you turn off or soft reset your device though...
Alternatively you could do what I have done, and map a long press of volume up to rotate one direction and long press of volume down to rotate the other way. There are occasions where portrait mode is better, others where landscape is better. Also means that volume controls still work as intended when pressed normally. I find gsen and gyrator a bit tempremental at times, so prefer having manual control over the rotation.
Even this will not cause proper rotation if your looking to stay in landscape. tf3d will not work in landscape without some sort of bodge from the diamond. I use my htc device in a car with landscape gps apps. I gave up on tf3d as maybe i don't need it because i've got voice commander. I set gyrator to switch to the phone app and rotate if the phone was landscape and happened to be on the manilla screen. I wanted the phone app to be landscape so i can see who i'm voice calling while in the car. this works, but if you switch to another app then back to the phone then the phone goes portrait and then only re shaking and landscaping the phone gets it to go landscape. Really I don't want to touch it when im driving. I guess I could set a voice command to rotate but I dont think its worth it. I also tried unhiding the landscape with a reg edit but once again the phone app re-portraits. Im now going to try a hreset and stoping the customize incase that affects the phone orientation if not im going a hunting a reg setting as maybe there is one that causes the phone app to portrait? I swear this was easier on my universal but i refuse to give up (and im kinda having fun )

Again, in either HD Tweak or Advance Config, there's a bit where you can check which phone dialer skin is used (I think HD Tweak) maybe if you try setting the phone dialer to the original WM 6.1 dialer instead of the HTC one it might not keep switching back to portrait? You won't be able to make video calls, but that may be something you don't mind losing... I know I never use it...
No thats fine, I have ugly friends
woohoo thanks guys no more poking around in the dark with reg settings for me hd tweak did the job!

I believe he is woohoo'ing because if you switch from HTC dialer type to WM dialer type via HD Tweak (you do loose the ability to make a video call), it then no longer rotates back to portrait mode after you switched to landscape.
Prior, it would remain in portrait mode till you accessed the dialer screen, then for some reason it would rotate back to portrait mode.
Now with the WM dialer style, it stays permanently in landscape mode.
This is with TF3d disabled of course.
Hey Forum,
while in the car i mainly use my Leo in Landscape Mode which works quite well with the GoaTrip 4.5 Rom and in combination with BSBTweaks. But theres one thing annoying me:
I am using the device in Landscape i.e. scrolling through the tabs, using some Progs and so on, but as soon as i press homebutton, the HD2 jumps to HomeScreen but in portrait mode where it stays for about 2-3 three seconds. Sometimes it is even the case, that it doesnt flip to landscape at all which is very annoying when you p.ex. want to switch from igo to CHT to skip a musictrack.
My questions are therefore: Has anybody made the same experience? Does anybody know why my Leo doesnt jump to the Homescreen in Landscape Mode directly? Is it a ROM-thingy or do you all (who use Landscape) suffer from that.
With the phone it is quite similar. As soon as i press the Dial Button, It shows up the Dialer in Portrait mode and doesnt flip until i turn the device around and back again...
I would be glad if anybody could help me out with this one. Thanks
Hmm seems like no one is using landscape on the HD2, huh?
I use landscape many times, especially in my car.
But, it seems the Manila installed in it cannot handle landscape.
When starting Opera, iGO, or picture viewer from Manila, everything works in landscape. But as soon as I see a Manila screen, it still shows in portrait.
I have the HyperROM with version 2.5.2013 and would love to see Manila in landscape mode!!
If your ROM supports it, then this cab should work perfect. There a just small glitsches with the Twitter, Internet, eReader and DokTab but they are still fully usable. If you dont like it, just uninstall it. But i can tell i love it how EVERYTHING is in LS when you need it (i.e. in the car )
P.S. i dont take any credits as i didnt make the cab
P.S. 2 Even works great with Co0kies Hometab 1.8.0
I have been trying various landscape apps for manilla. They all work except for the home page. If i restart the device in landscape mode i loose all the quicklinks, even when i turn the device to portrait. Any sugestions?
a big BUT.... so we can use even manila in landscape.... but did anyoane managed to keep the phone canvas in landscape even after initiating a call?
and is it possible to start the landscape mode manually and end it the same?

Yes the phone Canvas works completely in LS but only if you press call button and THEN go to LS. Thats crap when you have the device in a car-mount...
anyone know how to get landscape mode on sms ,lets say i tilt the phone it goes to landscape mode for typing and viewing and when i tilt it back to portrait it goes back to normal.
I believe BSB Tweaks can do this. Check it out.
I thought they did rotate on sms out off the box
try bsbtweaks or gyrator
I thought they did also but I know that some of the custom roms did not enable that which resulted me to switch it by using BSB tweaks. As mostly I did not want the actual homepage to go into landscape mode also so couldnt use the roms advance tools.

The attached cab will give you portrait rotation, but it'll do it on every tab not just messaging, so you decide if that'll work for you or not.

I had tried this cab before and it messes up the Photos & Videos tab badly.
What happened is that in the Photos & Videos tab, the photos are presented in their correct respective form i.e. portrait will be shown as portrait whilst landscape will be landscape.
After this cab is installed, when one slides to the Photos & Videos tab, it is blank and left in a hung state. The bottom menu options from your last tab location may also be lingering there.
I am sticking to the manual rotation mode via 1st button press.

This doesn't seem to happen on the Tmo stock ROM, the 2.10 one anyway. However, it does cause the pics and music tabs to display in landscape in the same style as they do in portrait (with vertical scrolling instead of horizontal)...but other than that, it works fine even on those tabs.
