Remove them or change them? There aer a million soft key changers
I would just like to either hide it or remove it from my today screen. i use the HTC Home plugin which doesnt give me much space at the bottom for the rest of the plugins. the Calendar Contacts bar at the bottom takes up space that i would like to use for plugins
I'd like to get rid of this bottom bar as well and cannot find a way ... I'd like to be able to hide the top start bar as well.
Here is the wisdom with which you seek:
Just place the .exe file in your Windows/Startup folder on your phone, reboot and your bar will be gone.
Go and sin no more.

Great little tweek really cleans up my Today screen!
Great, i was looking for a tweak to this too. Thanks a bunch.
Anyone know a hack to keep all of WM6 in full screen mode?
I'd like all apps to behave like PIE in full screen mode. The start bar and bottom bar remain hidden until you press a hard button.
Any ideas?
Thx for this!
OMFG! I'm the FIRST person to comment on this in over FOUR YEARS?! lol Still rollin with the Titan (Mogul)! Old School to the Core, I am! tried various other botom bar hiders/removers. I think the Today Shrink 1 got rid of my sms altogether!
(or maybe the culprit was the patched M2D I tried to install.) Either way, after that little fiasco I trusted NEITHER ONE! thx much for this tiny tool. - The Jackal
I made it as simple as possible to change your prefered Calendar Manager, I use ThumbCal, which seems quite popular here. As downloaded, the script is setup for ThumbCal, but to change it all you have to do is edit the first 2 lines with a text editor.
Run the script and your Softkeys, links, and "Today Plugin" all call up Thumbcal, run again and it switches back to Office (Outlook) Mobile!
Does not support 3rd party software, for SPB Mobile Shell support see this thread.
MortScript is requied, download it here.
I hope you find this useful!
To use:
1. Download and unpack the ZIP file.
2. Edit the first 2 lines in the MSCR file, notepad works fine for this.
set AltCalendarName, "ThumbCal"
set AltCalendarPath, """\Program Files\ThumbApps\ThumbCal\ThumbCal.exe"""
3. Copy to your device, and make a shortcut.
4. Click the shortcut and answer the "Yes or No" question.
5. Repeat step 4 to swap between the two calendar managers!
NOTICE: I have seen this many of times, some softkey mapping software (most likely Spb Mobile Shell, this one does it the worst) hijacks the "calendar" softkey and redirects it to the "exe" instead of the "lnk". In any case this patch will still effect the Calendar Today Plug-in. You can remap your softkey with the mapping utility, how ever Spb Mobile Shell limits what you can select, so an additional one is recommended.
WOW..great thinking..
It has been asked abt Hundred of times to replace the Default Crappy Calender
Any screen shoot???
this is EXACTLY what i was looking for. thank you very much. if it doesn't take too much of your time and you can make one for changing the HTC Home Media Player to S2P instead of MP or HTC Audio Manager.. it would be fantastic.
THANK YOU
Just what I have been waiting for. There was nothing worse than having calendar items on the today screen, then pressing on them and it taking me to the default calendar, which I dont even use anymore. i had taken calendar off my today screen altogether. Now its back!!! thanks a bunch for this one.
Any news to get this feature on SPB mobile shell ?
change it easy guys.
as far as I know,I changed my calendar with the thumbcalc 0.51 simply with SK TOOLS.
There is a button change option. And many other offcours as well. But this is the easy way, without aknoledge of serious programming or programms..

Will be looking into that this week, looks complicated at the moment, but I think it will be possible.
is this not working for anyone else? :/
EDIT: NiteStalker, I checked my file paths, and everything is correct, when I press the .mscr file to toggle calendars, it tells me my default calendar has changed, but when I actually check my calendar "softkey" it has not changed.
Is there another script I could run to acheive the same effect?
UPDATE: I have also tried changing the File paths, and then changing the file location acoordingly with no result. I'm going to try to run it from the root, and see if it works.
UPDATE II: Launch off the root doesnt work, im going to check and see if the original Calendar is in the place referenced in the script for my device. (XV6900)

I run it from \Application Data\Mortscripts, but where its placed doesn't matter. When I run it my 'Softkey', 'Program Menu Link', and 'Today Screen Calendar Plug-in' all work. I'm using ThumbCal 0.51, but it shouldn't matter what app you run.
If the today plug-in works, but your softkey isn't, it's possible you have remapping software changing the default calendar link. If you have a softkey editor ensure it's pointed to the "calendar.lnk" in your start menu.
Also make sure you have 3 quotations (""") in front of and after the {set AltCalendarPath, """\Program Files\ThumbApps\ThumbCal\ThumbCal.exe"""}. If your missing even one, it will malfunction.
If none of this works, I don't know what to say, except that I run it on WM6.1, and my friend runs WM6.0, and it works on those.
I'm stumped, can anyone point me in the right direction?
EDIT: one sec. i posted at the same time as you. im reading.

How about a plot twist, I've never heard of either, and havent used any form of remapping software, should I just remap it to the correct place anyhow?
I may as well give it a shot.
UPDATE! I did it, when I looked at the mapping of the softkey it was going to "calendar.exe" instead of "calendar.lnk" so I just mapped it straight to touchCal for now, but now im curious and want to see if i can find the "calendar.lnk"

Calendar.lnk is in [\windows\startmenu\programs] usually, it can move around there. Remapping to that would allow you to successfully swap between the apps if needed.
ANYWAY I am glad we were able to solve your problem.

Hi, I'm in need of a working "enlarged start menu"-application on my SE X1. The thing is that I really much need it to be freeware, and I suppose that "XDA-Team Enlarged Start Menu" isn't (correct?). I'm thinking about developing the application myself, but I would like to know if anyone here has any information about where to start? Is is just a matter of changing some registry keys? XML-files? Thankful for all the help i can get!
as far as i understand, the XDA Enlarged Start Menu is just taken from one of the other HTC devices and is not "payware" or anything like that.
if anyone was developing an enlarged Start Menu, i'd love to see a kinda fullscreen version, this would make it much easier to navigate. kinda in the style of iContact or the latest volume control taken from Diamond. i don't really se why the start menu needs to be only a percentage of the screen size anyway, just seems like bad design, they've made it look like the Start Menu on a Windows Desktop PC so that we all know it's Windows, but have not actually thought about the interface being user friendly for a handheld device. for drunk people with fat fingers. like me.

yes man, I absolutely agree !!! It´s funny, I never really thought about start menu, but now when I read your suggestion it just seems really crazy how much possibilities for improvement there are.
I thought about a completely customizable start menu, fullscreen.
Maybe with a kind of plugin system, volume / vib toggle, backlight strength slider, power off+soft-reset buttons....*sigh* THAT would be cool !

Martin
What about Touch Launcher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433862
It´s a normal app, but I was talking about a REAL replacement. It should hide when I tap "Start" again, and, as I said, it should be really customizable.
To all devs out there: Is anyone interested in coding such an app ? I think this is desperatly needed to make WM a bit more usable, although there are already tons of good software out there.
regards,
Martin

hmmm, main thing i want is fullscreen. that one seems nice feature-wise, but it's not what i'm after.
devs, do any of you know how they changed the size of the Start Menu from the old style to the new enlarged one?
if we know how to do this then maybe we can hack the existing app to at least lengthen right across the width of the screen... or if it was hacked with a config we could pick how many items we wanted...
this could be a great project for the coders!

Well, quickmenu is _almost_ perfect. If it only was more finger-friendly. Being able to scroll trough menus like in icontact and all so many other apps would be great for it, but at least having twice as big menu entries would be enough in most cases. It has all the features needed, it just mimicks the original start menu a bit too much
Touch menu from touch commander suite is exactly what you want, and it has and application menu enlarged. Unfortunaly its not freeware.
Here is little something about system fonts:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms901091.aspx
By changing some registry values you can change size of start menu (including font size etc.) and popup menu as well.

Ohh thankyou! But, using PHM Regedit I've tried changing the Ht-value for BarFnt, which didn't do anything. Perhaps you have some pointers to what I should try?

BarFnt values are for menu bars (for example: bottom bar in total commander).
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\PopFnt
is for popup menu (screen 1 shows Ht value of 1200)
Truly, I don't know how to change start menu font size via registry.
If you want to have full screen menu try mort buttons
can you launch mort buttons by tapping Start on the screen?
maybe by editing the registry ?
If anyone can duplicate the Touch Commander one it would be perfect. I have touchcommander but do not use it anymore, unfortunately you have to install the whole program to be able to use the Large menu option.
The great thing about it is it enlarges menus in all programs.
Sorry for bringing up an older thread, but I think this is still unsolved!
I also would like to have a fullscreen start menu. I tried quickmenu 2.8,but it just isnt what Im looking for. For me it would be fine if clicking on the start menu would bring up a dialog like when you click startmenu -- programs.
Hope that someone has an idea!
QUICKMENU 2.8 for me too... ^_^
I'd only add that scroll movement and ability to customize the start icon (it already does this, but only with one icon).
When HTC Sense is enabled the "settings" link in the program screen is linked to the settings tab/pane in HTC Sense. When Sense is turned off in the Today-settings, the same link points to the standard setting screen of windows mobile.
What I want is to make the "settings" link in the program screen to point directly to the standard windows settings (used to be "control panel), or better yet: a standalone HTC settings app then can run outside the Sense environment.
Why? I want to turn of the settings tab in the HTC Sense interface. Something that easily can be done by editing the registry. This way I can manage to minimalize the amount of tabs to 5. Just enough to prevent the disorienting scrolling to the left and the right when selecting a tab.
Can it be done? Is there an easy way to open the windows settings screen while Sense is enabled?
Thanks

BsB Tweaks does much more than just this.....Just check out the page and you will find that BsB Tweaks is a MUST HAVE App
Besides lots of tweaks it also makes it easy for you to Add Rotation for programs that do not automatically rotate, and/or add Pinch-to-zoom for programs that by themselves do not support pinch-to-zoom.
If you don't want to install the app, you could ask makeveral how he does the settings Tweak (I wouldn't know).
Pappagallo: Ok, thanks for tip.

Set this to zero:

But there will be two identical icons for Settings after this. You can delete settings.lnk from the Start Menu to get rid of the HTC Settings.
