Guys I have a Mogul and the $15 unlimited plan i called sprint customer care and inquired about tethering...They informed me however that I cannot. I attempted to do it anyway and got a user name and pw error. What can I do and is tethering possible?
Download and install the attached cab. Then open internet sharing on your phone, click conncet, then plug in yer usb cable to your computer. You will tether for free.

I tried this and get a invalid user name/password when trying to connect and it won't connect unless the USB is plugged in. Am I doing something wrong? Just updated to WM 6.1
And ideas?
When you open Internet Sharing program what options u get ? If you only get option using Phone As A Modem u need to edit registry HKLM\comm\internetsharing\settings
edit key 'ForceCellConnection' so it says 'Sprint PCS '
How would this work for Telus? (Canada)
Make sure you dont use PAM...phone as modem...they can tell when you are using this VERSUS using Internet sharing where the data connection is used. It appears that the phone is accessing the net for browsing on their end.
I have a verizon 6800 with DCD 3.1.5 and Internet sharing. I installed the WMModem as posted earlier. When I open Internet Sharing I press the connect, then plug in the usb cable. The computer sees the phone, but I get a message "Limited or No connectivity".
Under network connection Details this is what I get"
Physical Address 80-00-60-0f-E8-00
IP Address 169.254.66.5
Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
My internet sharing works if I use WIFIRouter, but don't always want to use this. Any ideas why this does not work? I'm able to follow instructions, but not too smart with the lingo, so please be gentle?

how about alltel
will this work on alltel?

Not to sure about that DCD ROM version but you usually don't have to install that CAB as he includes that in his ROMs. That IP address is bad and that is why you can't connect. I have DCD 3.2.6 and all I do is run Internet Sharing and click on connect and then connect via USB and it works. At least for my XP machine. My Vista machine doesn't like my phone at all. I have even tried bluetooth and Vista is still having problems. Going to reload Vista again some day.
ruff_ryder, what ROM are you on? Did you try the CAB above to see if that works?
Other Setting
Don't you have to enable "Enable advanced networkfuntionality" under Start-Settings-Connections- USb to PC also when tethering?

Mine is checked so I would assume so as my internet sharing works.
Jambrose, thanks. I guess I'll just live with this, until I upgrade to DCD's new rom.

Will this also work got BT tethering? USB is not an option for mac users as no drivers are available
EDIT: Confirmed it works with BT as well. However, the connection doesn't seem to be stable enough for online gaming. It works for a while, then randomly the game will stop receiving data. This might be Sprint trying to curb people from playing WoW on their network.
I think it may be in that case that it may be bluetooth, not sprint that's giving you trouble.
I'm kinda lost....all this started after I updated the ROM now to 6.1 or whatever but when I open internet sharing the only option I have is PC Connection:bluetooth or USB.. b4 I had that plus sprint pcs data package or PAM. What or how do I fix that?
i can't download the cab files

I used to be able to tether using my old ROM as well as the "un-official" new ROM versions prior to the recently released ROM update dated 4/09/07.
I use Missing Sync (ver 3.0.2) on OS X, and it would allow me to tether the 8525 using internet sharing set to USB. Now the only way I am able to tether is via the Bluetooth PAN, and even then the connection is spotty at best.
Did the official ROM change the way Internet Sharing works? This is very annoying and any assistance or ideas would be welcome.
I downgraded from the CUSTEL 2.5 WM6 ROM due to Missing sync's inability to sync with it as well as an inability to tether my Mac. Vista using Bootcamp works but Vista isn't my cup of tea...
Soon...
In a couple of weeks time you will have a solution to your problems with Apple OS X and Microsoft Windows Mobile. (Hint: it's not free.)
I am assuming that this would the much anticipated Missing sync update. If only I could shorten the wait... oh well.
Thanks.
Not really. Trade your 8525 for the iPhone!

I do it too. All the time. Is AWESOME from the car, especially in a a 3G area. (Parked, not driving.)
i can't even connect my 8525 to my mac via bluetooth. it worked once and now the phone won't open up the passcode screen to connect.
edit: my rom is version 1.34.502.3. should i update to a newer one?
I think its the location that I am at that may be to blame. I have a really slow connection via Bluetooth PAN. The same isn't true when using Vista and Internet sharing via USB - that connection is much faster (though it too blanks out at times).
As for connecting to OS X: simply start the Bluetooth setup assistant on the mac and search for "any device". Then select the phone and pair the two. At the very end of the process the Mac will list the services that are available via the phone. One of them will be the shared network.

yeah, it stalls after i select it from the device list. the screen where it gives me the passcode to connect it, it seems like my phone doesn't receive it. not sure. but you think i should upgrade the rom? looks like mine is kinda old.
I'm posting with OSX using my phone right now
delete the bluetooth pairing on the osx machine and on the phone
from osx bluetooth assistant and select any device
if it asks about using the phone as a headset disselect that
if the phone once pairs asks about a serial device do not select that
verify if bluetooth still is on on the phone
goto internet sharing
bluetooth pan
connect
make sure its actually connected to the internet
on the osx machine click the bluetooth icon again and select "join network on ___your phones name____ "
thats it!
sometimes give it a second
if it still doesn't work make sure you don't have some kind of crazy firewall setup
using Custel's 2.5 rom (windows mobile6)

Hi,
Some weeks ago I tryed to use MissingSync for internet sharing with different WM6 versions without success. With official AKU3.3.1 version it works with the USB cable. But battery life is very short with this version.
Regards.
Yes, missing sync does not yet support WM6. Try the "normal" bluetooth pan method described above.
Anyone tried doing OS X tethering with newer versions of the WM6 roms?
I'm currently running vp3G 2.0 (WM6), rom date 5/15/07, radio 1.40.30.00, protocol ver. 32.73.7020.16H
Because I'm working offsite tomorrow, I was hoping to use my phone to tether my laptop to work with VPN on the laptop... and then I can login and out of the timeclock, etc. But trying it from work tonight before I leave, I can't get the bluetooth on my 8525 to connect to the PC.
Followed Neomuzic's instructions to the letter, but Safari isn't getting things working. Any assistance would be appreciated!!!
Nevermind... I'm a dork! Figured out where Internet Sharing was on the phone, and all is well. Having a little trouble connecting to my work proxy server... but messing with that now.

As of August2007, Missing Sync 4 supports WM6.
I'm also using bluetooth pan right now to post
Hello all,
I usually dont post much since i rarely have anything to contribute, but this time I do. I am running a macbook connected to my cingular 8525 thru the bluetooth pan and have zero problems. I upgraded my rom to the new vp one with all the latest settings and love it. No more looking for a hotspot for me. I dont use safari broswer on my mac, i use firefox. Thanks to everyone on this forum with the knowledge and time for helping the rest of us.
What i do is connect my JasJam to xp running through parallels, start internet sharing and it installs the drivers(first time of connecting it) and then it works perfectly everytime. Only in xp though.
I have installed the latest missing sync but havent tried internet sharing on mac osx but now that u guys say it works thats awesome! Will mess with it later (knowing me i won't attempt to get it to work until i'm off in some foriegn area with no internet connection and will need to download drivers that i'll struggle to get through pie/opera on my jasjam...) i fail to plan ahead with things like this! lol

Tethering 8525 to MACBOOK. HELP.
I tried several different approaches to tether my 8525 to my MACBOOK, with no success.
I have specific scripts from the web installed into the modem scripts folder. No luck with any of them. I believe the scripts aren't the problem but the COM ports are the culprit.
I recieve an error message that says," Failed to open RFCOMM serial channel. Check if authentication needs to be enabled in your device"
This is after pairing the 8525 to the MACBOOK and completing the blue tooth setting in the Network folder in the System Preference folder.
The pairing is successful because I can "send files" to the 8525 via blue tooth icon.
I read somewhere that the MACBOOK should allow me to set and choose COM ports but I haven't found the option.
My question is where do I find the COM port option in the MACBOOK because I believe that is where my problem is.
MACBOOK C2D, OS 10.4.10.

im new to any form of htc or palm(any windows based phone). my blackberry i could do a bunch of stuff without having internet through various simulators and whatnot. i was interested in getting the touch because i believed it had wifi, but know i realized that it doesnt(still havent purchased it.)
so my questions are
will the phone be able to receive a internet signal through bluetooth? as in i connect my phone to my macbook, i should receive a connection.
if i connect it to the computer via usb will i be able to download applications just like if i had the internet plan?? i really do not need the phone to be able to have internet at all times, just for downloading apps. i mainly use smartphones for there planning and scheduling abilities.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
just some side info, switching from sprint is not an option, nor is getting a information plan, as im a broke college kid.
Not sure about the bluetooth, it should be possible though.
As for the USB yes, infact if you are downloading applications do this over your regular internet if you don't have unlimited wireless internet from your provider. Applications can be quite big and you can hit your download limit very easily this way.
thanks a bunch, i went and checked the phone out today and i liked it a bunch. once again, and to not start another new thread thats probably answered somewhere, is it possible to send ringtones to the phone through usb?

HTC announced the Touch 3g and Touch HD which look very similar to the Vogue. I'm not sure when these devices will be released but they have the features you seem to be looking for (WiFi). If you wait a little bit, you may, or may not be happier with the 3g or HD.
Just some information in case you never heard of these devices yet.
http://www.htc.com/www/default.aspx
EDIT: I am not sure about connecting a vogue to a mac, as it requires activesync to connect which is a Microsoft product. Most newer macs allow you to run windows xp, so it should be no problem. Also, when the phone is connected via USB, it will not use your regular DSL/Cable connection to access the internet. You will need to download the applications on your computer first, then transfer to the phone via activesync.
There's also the Mogul which is out now that has built in wifi. Prices are low and should be dropping as newer phones come out. Good for a broke college student.

Actually the phone can connect to the Internet via desktop DSL/Cable when they are USB linked.... but you'd never do that just to get apps on you phone. It's really only useful for syncing email to your phone when you don't have a data plan for the the phone.
Sprint HTC Touch internet thru bluetooth
So has anyone been able to figure out how to connect to the internet thru bluetooth to your PC/MAC? For example: If you are in an area that doesn't have cell coverage at all (Sprint or roaming) if you have an internet connection on your PC/MAC (DSL, Cable, etc.) can you connect to the computer thru bluetooth and access the internet on the Touch? It would be great for VOIP like Skype(out).
So I am not asking how to connect your computer to the internet thru your phone. Just the opposite, actually. Specifically asking for MAC.

Hi Guys, My laptop wifi is broken so i'm wondering if it is possible to share my Wing's Wifi to my laptop via USB.
It is. I don't know about a default rom, but you can internet share off your phone's 3g on the rom i use, juststable. I've only figured it out for 3g though, not on a wifi network.

You just run the Internet Sharing program included in the ROM, connect via USB, follow the program's directions, and you're off!
(Unless apreincher removed internet sharing...)
It should work with your WiFi connection on your phone, too.
Oh, and, on a WM6.5 ROM, it's called Modem Link.
hmmm.. i still can't make it to work. here's what I want to accomplish
- Connect my Wing to WIFI
- connect wing to laptop via USB
- share the Wing's Wifi connection with laptop

Hmm, well you said you are using the Modem Link program from WM6.5, correct???
You can install the original Internet Sharing program, here: http://thewingster.com/internetsharing.aspx
(direct download: http://thewingster.com/Documents/Internet Sharing.CAB)
Maybe that'll work for you, if you aren't using the Internet Sharing version already. And also, I think you're supposed to start the internet sharing, and then connect your USB. Otherwise ActiveSync might interferre.
ace, have you actually done this?
As far as I know, the default Internet Sharing program wont actually share the phone's wifi connection with the host computer.
The solution is to use Internet Connection Sharing Control v0.21, which is a third party application that was created specifically for arranging the data stream however you want. The author touts it as being capable of "Wifi to USB - basically the pda acts as a wireless network card for the PC (neat, eh?)." Looks like it might be a somewhat complicated program to figure out, but it should accomplish whatever he's asking.

The default Internet Sharing program has a connection called WModemLink, which might be WiFi.
I never tried it though, so it's true that the third-party app is probably better.

There's only 8 posts above yours. Surely that's not too much for you to read yourself? The answer is 3 posts up from yours.
Yes, but i don't understand quite well. Corect me if i am wrong, WMWifiRouter is software for Cell phone, I need software for PC or an explanation how to. My PC is an acces point. Under Win 7 i created a wireless network connection (I have Asus P5K-E WI FI AP MB) and connected my HD2 but when i start opera i get error massage about connection.
Well, I did it. Now I can connect to PC by my Leo and browse internet through my PC WiFi connection and ADSL modem
No extra charge!
It is quite simple under win 7.
One should first make bridge connecton between Local area connection and Wireless network connection. IP adresses should be configured manualy.
In phone first activate Wi-Fi, go to advanced>>change network>>computer-to-computer>>network adapters>>Broadcom802.11 DHD Network adapter and set IP according to PC. Then go to connections and set IP also.
You can even do simpler, you just need to right-click on your LAN connection, select properties, advanced, click share connection, connect your wifi connection in the dropdown below if it appears. IP can be dynamic in this case, the PC willmake a DHCP server.
It's not what the original poster wanted to do though. He wanted to use the HD2 basically as an "outgoing" USB wifi adapter for a PC that doesn't have one.
Nope. I don't see that dropdown menu. But, never mind. I have one question for you, I can't browse directory structure of my PC from phone or to connect to PC as a client. Is there any program for that, or an explanation. Tnx.
Hey guys just curious if there is a solution to reverse tether via usb on the motorola atrix. I've searched every post imaginable but nothing works for the Atrix. Come on XDA turn water in wine for me
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I was wondering how to tether via usb normally, I can't seem to find an option anywhere on my AT&T branded Atrix
It should be in your list of apps... there should just be an app called "Tethering" to preform your task. It's super simple to use as well just click of the "USB Tethering" option and your done but for further detail on tethering try just going in google and typing USB tethering on windows XP.
Sorry I would post a link to a good site but I'm a newbie and I need to do 8 posts before I can post links to external websites.
If you don't have the APP let me know and I'll find a way to get it to you.
But someone please help me out with my problem...
Thanks,

ahh I see, unfortunately I don't have it and I assume it's because I'm running gingerblur without bloatware.. Would be great if you could somehow get it too me and in relation to your problem I don't think it would be easily possible unless you used wireless. Ad-hoc network with internet connection sharing.

What? did I get ripped off? I haven't seen an app for tether that came with my phone. If that is true, then all the time the DEV's put into hacking to get it working was for not? use the search and look for tethering. the answer is close to what you said, but does not involve an "app". It is a setting within the wireless network settings, but selecting it alone does not get you tethering.
Ahh I have seen wireless tethering (but use barnacle instead) I was curious about USB tethering though

Maybe I am not understanding what your question. tethering is usually referring to being able to use the phone as an access point so you can surf the web from your computer using the phone as a "modem". what are you wanting to do with reverse tethering? If you are wanting to do what i described, go into the development threads and look for ARoot or gladroot. also I think most of the roms have this built in now also.
pdanet allows tethering through usb

By reverse tethering I mean the opposite of what you have described and that is to use the internet provided on the computer onto your phone. This can be done and I will do it with red hat linux I'm positive that I can get this to work but to get this to work on windows XP is a different challenge with the Atrix in particular.
If anyone has any information please help a brother out!

I don't know about USB tethering, but if your computer has a wireless adapter you could use it to create an ad hoc network to which your phone could connect. You could then use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) in Windows to bridge your internet connection to your wireless one. That way your Atrix could use your computer's interntet connection wirelessly!

True but as far as reverse usb tether. I don't know about android but with winmo just by having the phone synced would allow for this. Have you tried the medi sync or any of the other option when you connect via usb to see if they allow for this?

if what you want is to find workaround of WiFi problems on unlocked Atrix, you'd better look for AT&T SIM (even nonworking, just to report the phone it's operator ID - there are lot at eBay). Currently this is the best solution. Also, member crnkoj is developing the solution HERE, but it is very complicated for now.
Old trusted WinMo born when WiFi on phone was just a miracle, so it was able to get internet through USB, but Android never dreamed there is an AT&T whith its stupid intervention in phone firmware.
Thanks for all the replies... I've found a solution and I can actually reverse tether over USB two different ways and I will share my findings in a week... I have one last snag. Full internet access but I can't download apps from the market even though I took down my firewall on windows... Give me one more week but if anyone has a solution to that new problem that doesn't include opening port 5228 let me know. Cheers!!!

Solution
Hey all... I'm still having no luck downloading from the market or using other internet apps but browsing on the web seems to be fine with reverse usb tethering. here's what I have done:
1. I connect to my laptop via usb and I start up regular usb tethering (as if I'm going to give internet to my computer from my phone)
2. When I complete step 1 on the windows computer I see a new network icon pop up representing my atrix as an RNDIS networking device
3. From here in windows I right click on the internet connection that is providing the internet to the laptop or computer and select properties from here I click on the advanced tab and check the box that allows "internet connection sharing" there is also a dropdown to pick which networking device you want to share with I select the networking device that represents the atrix and click ok.
4. From here I restart my internet connection and then I right click on the internet connection for the atrix and select properties. On the general tab I select internet protocol (TCP/IP) and click the properties button and change my ip address manually and pick --> 192.168.2.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 then click ok and ok again
5. From here I start adb shell (or you can use terminal on your phone if you wish) and type the following
su (to go into root or super user mode)
ifconfig usb0 192.168.2.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
route add default gw 192.168.2.1 dev usb0
setprop net.usb0.dns1 192.168.2.1
setprop net.dns1 192.168.2.1
iptables -F
iptables -F -t nat
setprop net.dns1 8.8.8.8
setprop "net.gprs.http-proxy" ""
after this ping www.yahoo.ca to be sure everything is working properly and if you get a response your good to go.
I'm assuming that everyone who is using these instructions has android sdk installed and there windows machine recognises the adb drivers for there phone as i'm convinced this will work with any android phone not just the atrix and I will test to confirm.
I wrote up these instructions pretty quick and I'll probably shorten them up as there is a few unessesary parts in the script for adb shell but everything will work and you should be able to but this will only allow you to use the internet and browse the internet with your phone this will not allow the market and other internet apps to work if anyone finds a solution to this it would be much appreciated.
Cheers all and ANDROID RULES!!!

Should you have taken some time to read the thread, what you actually wrote wouldn't be an epic fail.
