Another noob question

Iv just got my qtek 9100 and love it. However i want to change a few things.
1)how do i change the sms alert tone?
2)I want to turn off the phone sounds but have my ringtone on full, how do i do it?
3)when i have it on vibrate-and receive a text it vibrates constantly for 3-5 seconds. How do i change it to a short vibration? If at all.
What is the best and easiest rom to change to? What essential software should i have installed?
Appreciate any help.
Love this place already!
for the vibration and rings issues, go to Start>Settings>Sounds and Notifications and theres a drop down box and there you can select whether you want to change your SMS tone, or Incoming call tone. To add custom rings, put the .mp3 file in My Device\Windows\Rings and to have a different sms tone, it needs to be in .wav format.
As for the rom, make sure your device is CID unlocked, read more about that in the upgrading forum, and they're all the same process so there is no "easy" rom to upgrade to.

hi y'all not really new here but don't post much. i have a favour i would like to ask anyone that knows how to create application. i would like to know if there is anyonw out there that could create a application that could handle ringtones. this application i would like to be able to assign ring tones for an individual but a shorter version of that same ring tone plays for the person if they send u a text or mms message. right now we know text uses the tone you choose for everyone but i would like a application that would individualize it...if it all makes sense
i would make a nice donation to anyone that could create it
friendly bump
ll hv a look

ok lets see
i have a ringtone for individuals in my phonebook and would like the same ringtone i use for phone calls to be used text messages, a shorten version or or even a separate song for the text. i just hate i can't tell who is texting me because of the one general ringtone. the phone calls don't need to have a limit but the text messages could be limietd to 5-10 seconds of music playing. if possible maybe work in a photocontact in it at the same time something that uses the whole screen. just a nice all in one app to make settin up ringtone and picture for that one person much easier
i wwill try out the ringo and see

SMS tone while on the phone

I don't know If i'm going deaf or what but I don't ever hear any kind of notification tone when I get a sms message while I'm on the phone. Any ideas? I hope there is and I didn't activate it or anything, cause my wizard did.

The tone while on a call for sms, email, or any kind of alert is what I missed the most from my WINMO phones. Also the ability to make different kind of occurance on my calendar. Android doesnt let you create your own pattern.

Personal tones for text messages.

OK, i have the HTC Tilt 2, and its really annoying that i cant set up a personal tone for my text messages, can only use the ones that come with phone. I've tried pasting the tones into the correct folder, and still no go. And i dont even care if i can set them personal for different people, that doesnt matter i just want a custom tone for incoming text messages in general.
If anyone has a freeware app for this or an app in general that can do this please let me know i would greatly appreciate it.

i had this issue too. try putting them on your sd card root as in no folder. also make sure they are mp3/wav

I agree with the above idea. One added note, if you make a folder called "Sounds" on your storage card, the Rom should recognize it in your ringtones folder. It does on mine.
Actually The easiest way to do it is just paste the custom ringtone in your windows folder with all the rest of the ringtones and as soon as you go to notifications it will recognize it right away... dont put it in any folder just put the file directly in the folder... Fool-proof
I put my text message sound in Device>Application Data>Sounds. When you put it in the Windows file, it only shows up for a ringtone, not other notifications.
tried that
I tried all of that... I ended up just getting fed up with trying that, So i paid for the Ringo app, does all of it, custom ring tones, message tones, and custom for any contact you want to add
What I want is a way to have specific sounds for different people texting.... ie.. Text from person A comes in and notification A plays..... text from person B comes in and notification B plays.
Now THAT would be handy!

Yeah, my Motorola SLVR used to do that. I would set a ringtone for someone and it would play if they were calling or texting.
But then it got confusing, because I didn't know if I needed to hurry up and answer the phone or not. So sometimes I would run to the phone only to find out it was a text. I was a lot skinnier back then.
Ringo
I paid for the ringo app 9.99, and you can create custom contacts separate sounds for both text msg and calling, but if you pull ringtones off your sd card, it cuts them off after a certain time out. which doesnt bother me that much. But I do now have custom tones for all my important contacts, for both calls and texts, and you can use any mp3, regardless if it is a shortened ringtone version or a whole song.
personal ringtones go in the "Ringtones" folder.
All other personalized sounds (text, missed call, etc) go in the Windows folder. Just copy and paste em in there
As already suggested I put my personal tones in the Windows folder directly, and they all show up and are available for selection in the 'sounds and notifications' section, in fact I altered my 'incoming email' one today.
What I believe he is asking for needs a third party app. To have an individual sms tone for each contact you will need something like Ringo. What everyone else is suggesting is a way to add custom tones in general..

This is true, MP3/WAV go into the ringtones folder in my documents...
NOW for alerts and alarms they need to be a wav or wma file and you place them directly into the windows directory. I usually add a zz to the beginning of the file name so all the alarms/alerts I make are always at the bottom of the list and easier to find...

i have always just put the files directly in the windows folder (only the ones for txt) and it has always worked fine for me
it seems that this was well covered but i had this same prob. i ended up downloading a program called Tonality that i was able 2 change just about any sound on my phone 4 free....even call waiting. i tried to place the link but since im a new user i was unable 2 do so. jus type Tonality in & you'll find the link 4 it over at freewarepocketpc. hope that works 4u.
best way to do it for alerts and ring tones is put them in the root of your sd card, no folders or anything just in the root. This way does not eat up your phones mem as well.

Ringers, Alerts!

Im not to impressed on the ringers and alerts that are available. Seeing that this device is more sophisticated and more business driven, I was hoping for better ringers and alerts. I just want a simple telephone ring instead of a instrumental. Im passed that stage. Txt message alerts are ok but I really want to use some custom ringers such as the voice saying I have a text message.
Any hopes of ringer customization?
No official news on it, but you can use Chevron to side load the ring tones
