Hey everyone!
There are so many cool tools, programs, games, etc. for the 6800. Lets all help each other out and list the programs we have and enjoy so that we can all discover new programs to try out!
I use:
TomTom Navigator 6
Arcsoft MMS
HTC GPS Tool
Microsoft Voice Command 1.6
TCPMP
HTC Home Customizer

There is what I have....so what do you have on your 6800?
I always find these threads interesting...

-Today Agenda
I also use CommonTime to sync my E-Mail, Calendar and Contacts with my company Lotus Notes and a few other minor programs.

Is Arcsoft MMS any good? How much does it cost? (or is it freeware).
Right now I have pretty much nothing installed on my XV6800. I really liked Opera Mobile 9.5 beta 1 but the 'out of memory' bug drove me bonkers.
I pretty much just use google apps with nuevasync for calendar & contacts then IMAP with gmail.
One thing I hate is the 160 character limit on my SMS messaging right now. My only smart phone didn't have that limit and it's driving me nuts with people's messages getting cut off.

I thought all SMS messages (regardless of phone type or provider) were limited to 160 characters. Is this not the case?
I swear I had an XV8600 (LG) with verizon service and it didn't have that limit.. Or atleast no text message of any length from phone-to-phone within the verizon network ever got cut off. (Email were the exception, anything that went [email protected] did get cut off)
I could be mistaken as I'm prone to memory failure but I'de bet my pinky's toe nail.

I am using Arcsoft MMS right now and here are a couple of screen shots of what happens if I go over 160 characters in a single message. I believe a single message limit is 160 characters but it'll allow you to type as many characters as you want; it'll just divide them up in to separate messages (top left-hand corner of the screen).

Thanks.

Hey can you explain these two, perhaps provide links? I am interested in the gmail setup and I dont know what Oggsync is.
Thanks.
gmail on java; Oggsync
To run the native gmail application, you need Java. The best Java for this purpose is GC14's GC Java Pack 1.2.4 for Windows Mobile. It comes bundled with the gmail app. You'll get the familiar gmail interface and features, including threaded messages, full email history, and access to contacts. But you can't download or attach files. Don't forget to go into gmail's settings and select "Log in automatically," or you'll have to key in your username and password each time you open it.
OggSync is a commercial program that lets you synchronize your Google calendar(s) and your gmail contacts (including each contact's photo) [added:] with those of Windows Mobile.

I agree; it doesn't work on mine: When I try to use it, it hangs. I didn't list it under Favorites, but under Other. I figured sooner or later I'd get it working; now I guess i won't.
Is there any speedier alternative to ActiveSync besides removing the MicroSDHC card and placing it in a card reader?

My work just upgraded from Lotus Notes to Outlook so I no longer need Laplink's PDASync (ver 4.0) anymore. If I could transfer the license, I'd give you a sweet deal.
I did Beta test Commontime for months and it was pretty solid, I just happened to already have a license to PDASync, so I never upgraded from the Beta program into a full version.

In your opinion, which are the must-have apps for a smartphone like this?
It's not a Smartphone, if by that you mean an MS SmartPhone. If you mean a "smart phone" then yes, yes it IS smart.
I suppose no point listing the apps I consider must-have's if you're potentially talking about a different phone, but here goes:
In no particular order
WeatherPanel / SPB Weather
KitaraGenesis (don't like these SPB Diary / Pocketbreeze things that take up far more space on the today screen than is necessary)
Total Remote (mainly so I can get into work without having to press buzzers)
Conduits Pocket Player - fantastic!!!

Phatware dbExplorer - very useful

hi, is the any way or app to make the contact photo appear bigger on the screen when incoming call ? cheers, matt
pocketx.net software.. or get the e-ten dialer skin.. or photo-contactin' also works..
photocontacts pro is your solution. it's the best piece of software
cheers people it works fine for me !!!
has neone noticed a lag issue with photocontacts pro? it was HORRIBLE on my hp6515 and i am affarid to install it on my mda in fear of this!
how do u uninstal this app..btw i have no lag it works ok for me.
how come u wanna uninstall it?
Try Inesoft Address Book. Nice large contact photo for caller ID and a great dialer (using large buttons) that makes one-handed contact lookup and dialing a breeze.
I am interested in this kind of functionality also. I have already assigned over 100 photos to my contacts using Outlook 2003. Do you guys know if any of these programs use the embedded pictures in Outlook (like the default WM5 received call screen) or do all these programs require a seperate library of photos stored on the device somewhere?

I noticed no one answerd the question about photocontacts. so here goes, if you have pictues already on your contacts(wm5) which all sync well with outlook via(active sync 4.1 ) will photocontacts recognise thoes pictures. I noticed on a few websites where it stated that photcontacts is wm5 compatable...(that's all well and good) what about all your existing pictutres embeded in contacts.
please help clarify.

Just installed Photo Contacts Pro v4.01 and it works with existing Outlook database in WM5 pretty well. It imports the pictures and also individual ringtone settings and what really makes me happy... all changes you make inside Photo Contacts are instantly reflected in default contacts database. So synching with Outlook is flawless There is a small lag when receiving call but anyway... its perfect!

Definately photocontacts pro. It adds full screen caller ID as well as contact group ring tones! 2 major things missing. And the caller filters feature is just damn cool. Filtering out all work calls rules!!

Thank you!
The screenshot of the Comm Manager program in my JAMin manual does not show this icon (nor a few of the others), and as I rarely use GPRS I'd never noticed this icon active.
The mystery is solved!
activesync button
Does the activesync button work the same way? - only for disconnecting? Because I can't start activesync from the comm manager.
You are correct, only if Active Sync is connected this button becomes active.
activesync button
Actually, I don't understand how MS thinks... The comm manager should allow us to activate activesync directly.
Personally, I will not go to comm manager to disconnect my activesync as I can do that directly from the actual activesync screen itself. But to start activesync, it'll involve more than a few screen taps depending on how your device is set up. A 1 tap button from comm manager would be very nice...
I totally agree with you. For me, the ideal Comm Manager application would also allow me to set-up a GPRS connection, not only break it off. It would also allow me to turn on and off the infrared and make BT discoverable and non-discoverable with the app. I am glad that MS included more functions in the new Comm manager as compared to the old one without the GPRS, Push Email and Phone radio buttons, but it is still only half of what I want it to do. Hopefully in future releases they will change this. For now I use VJVolubilis, a nice app from Vijay555 that does everything the Comm Manager should be able to do, except for Push Email. VjVolubilis is now my central app for all connection-related issues.
Koksie: I may one day make a GUI for VJVolubilis, although as I've said before, it's actually just a spinoff from VJSihaya.
It should be noted that CommManager is HTC (I think), not MS, since I've got the Mio A701 and that doesn't have anything like CommManager
Of course, VJVolubilis still works on it...
I've not tried PushEmail... if someone tells me the necessary registry settings, I'll build them in. I'll have to see if I can get set up some time... let me find a free push email service.
V
Hi V,
Don't get me wrong, my post was by no means meant to comment on the lack of GUI of VjVolubilis. I am very happy with the app, I put the shortcuts in SPB Plus and in WM5NewMenu and have easy access to all connections now. I don't really need a GUI at all, the set-up I now have is very convenient for me. Of course adding the icons I liked was more difficult, ha ha. A GUI might be nice for other users, but for me it works perfectly like this.
Good point about HTC and MS, I wondered about that.
You can get a free push email account at mail2web.com. I have enabled it and tried it, works perfectly, but I don't have unlimited data yet and don't use it (hotmail is still my most used email. I know, old fashioned, but since everyone I know mails me on it I keep it. Unfortunately no email forwarding, MS has disabled that years ago to my dismay).
edit: If you want a Comm Manager on your A701, use the attached file. it worked well on my Wizard before I upgraded. It is only the old version (4 buttons), I have not been able to find the new one with more possibilities.
Koksie: no problem, I wasn't taking it as an offence about lack of GUI! Merely commenting on future plans.
Offtopic, and as I'm a moderator, feel free to spank me, but:
I've set up a mail2web account, and it works nicely.
However, I may be missing something, since I'm not sure if my Mio has push mail yet and I've never configured it before, but how do I configure push mail with mail2web?
I can see the option to sync when new mail arrives, but that requires a "text messaging address". Does mail2web provide one of those?
V
Hi V,
the text message address is the old push email method I think, in which the provider ( in this case mail2web) sends you the email in sms messages. Your text message address would be your phone number. The MS way of Push email on the new devices is done over GPRS and works like RIM's Blackberry, in which email is pushed by the Exchange Server to your device into your inbox. Push Email is only implemented in the new AKU2.0 ROMs. I don't know if your MIO has such a ROM and if ROM versions for the MIO are available with this feature. On my Wizard, enabling Pusk Email is done through the Comm Manager. I just have to fill in the Mail2web data in the Exchange Server settings in Active Sync and after enabling the push email service in the Comm Manager the service is activated. Hope this info helps you.
greetz, koksie
Koksie - very helpful, thanks! It's as I thought, I don't think the Mio has a push mail rom yet... I'll look into it further.. thanks again.

but I decided to buy it because I needed a tool like this for business purposes, by now I'm using it for mail on the go, and of course like a powerful agenda with Pocket Informant, but due my short experience with a pocket PC, I know that there must be much more uses and software that I don't know yet, then I would like to ask for advices about this matter, may be software or even tips to be able to to take more advantages of this incredible phone!

hi, im not quite sure what you are asking for? but, i use mine for work to. i dont find the need for anything extra than what is already included in M$ mobile office
i use the calendar and outlook which is synced through my organisations exchange server though activesync over the mobile network. in the main i do this manually but also by setting it up to do autosync at intervals.
you can set it to have pushmail too if your companies mail server will allow this
pocket outlook does all that the full pc version does (near as dammit) email, access to my corporate address book, meeting scheduling and invites etc etc
is that what you wanted to know?
OK, here is the "business" oriented sub-set of all my apps:
apMemo 2.3 http://www.apsoftsystems.com/apmemo/index.htm
apMemo allows for alarmed note taking on the go
Ilium Listpro 5.0.0.2016 http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/lp/listpro.htm
Listpro is great - I use this for whole loads of lists on the PC and HD and swop the lists back and forth
Metro 5.71 http://www.nanika.net/Metro/
Metro is useful for business trips (and pleasure)
MxCalculator 2.1 http://www.trancreative.com
NewsGator Go! 2.0.0.25419 http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals...o/Default.aspx
I use a RSS feeder for business news
Pocket Informant 8.51 http://www.webis.net/index.php
RCX Lexipedia 1.2 http://www.revolution.cx/Lexipedia/Lexipedia.htm
Yes, I know this is an old app but it's still there when I need answers and don't want to go online
SBSH PocketBreeze 5.4.15 http://www.sbsh.net/products/windows...c/pocketbreeze
Fantastic today plugin to view my calender (must be used with SecondToday)
SPB Finance 2.7.0 http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/finance/?en
Not really business, but keeps track my my finances
From my thread comment: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3117017&highlight=secondtoday#post3117017
I use keepass for securing those important but (sometimes) easy to forget ID's & passwords:
hi, im not quite sure what you are asking for? but, i use mine for work to. i dont find the need for anything extra than what is already included in M$ mobile office
i use the calendar and outlook which is synced through my organisations exchange server though activesync over the mobile network. in the main i do this manually but also by setting it up to do autosync at intervals.
you can set it to have pushmail too if your companies mail server will allow this

thanks, well yes something like that I was looking for, but may be a little more focused in meetings and projects, I'm using list Listpro for this two purposes but I can imagine there are better and specialize software for this.
about meetings I need to lead meeting sometimes, and write down some ideas or comments in each topic on this meetings.
same with projects, I start a project, and I need to write down all the steps of it, and the progress of each one too
thanks Cheesy Dave, there are really useful app there!
thanks audscott
i guess im a caveman when it comes to such business things... i just use ms word to make lists
notepad for basic notes
i find that the ms mobile office suite included does all i need (along with the other software in pocket outlook such as tasks etc)
small tip if you do want to use a different front end like SBSH PocketBreeze or spb pocketplus etc
dont need to run secondtoday type progs which just chew up more memory, just untick manila from the today plugins screen and do away with manila. personally i find it to be just bells and whistles and not much function, uses loads more system resources than other after market apps with nothing more (less in my opinion) on offer
i use spb pocketplus together with spb weather and spb phone suite all sat as my front screen. i can access all my needed software with one touch, make calls with one touch, switch ring profiles with one touch fire up wifi with one touch... in fact 99% of what i need to do with my HD i do with 1 touch using this set of software. the only time i need to use the stylus is for typing (im kak handed using my fingers to type and am pretty fast with the stylus)
as i said up there^^^^ i use MS office for all my other bits as i can bang it stright over to my laptop to use the full versions if necessary
i guess its down to what you need, what you like and what you get used to. ive been using this combo of progs for 4 years now so am a bit stuck in the mud so to speak
ill try to do a screen grab of my today page to show you what i mean.... but you might not like it as i am very much in favour of function over form
(ive trialled spb mobile shell and spb diary but again find them unecessary.... why do you need a diary on your today screen when it is one touch away and a hell of a lot more confidential if your diary isnt open for all to see all the time (i work in healthcare so confidentiality is a big requirement! )
business
I have been using pda in my construction business for many years to keep appointments. I tend to forget them and rely on the alarm. I have most of the incoming phone calls redirected to the phone. I use agenda one because you can link contacts to appointements i.e the alarm sounds to tell me to meet Mrs Smith. I click on that and it brings up Mrs Smiths address.
We are trying business contact manager for outlook in the office as a CRM and have tried the pda add in to view them. It just does,t work. I have heard over other software that makes the contacts visible in outlook mobile.
I also use mine mainly for Business (and pleasure), work in an Australasian role with travel in Australia and New Zealand.
Must admit I am VERY impressed with the function and accuracy of WorldCard mobile. Sure beats the manual data entry of B-Card info
A few of the apps I'm using on my HD
SPB Traveller - to manage my flights, accomodation and rental car bookings.
GarminXT - with Australia and New Zealand maps to help me get to the places I need to.
SPB Weather - helps me know what to expect and what to take when I travel.
SPB Time - My travel alarm clock etc.
SPB Wallet - Helps me remember the multitude of logon details for company (and private)
systems access as well as credit cards and so on.
SPB Finance - Tracks my out of office expenses for me.
Pocket Investor - Mobile management of my stocks.
Softmaker Suite - A really great set of applications which provide me FULL edit and formatting alignment for my Word, Excel and Powerpoint files.
Pocket Informant - Replaces the PIM
RESCO Utility pack - Great file management for shifting documents around, deleting etc.
A few other general apps.
HD Tweak
Gsen
Sprite Backup
MSS Convertor
SKTools
SPB Mobile Shell (but using the "ChangeSKIN" application to provide multiple contact photo screens etc. )
SPB Phone Suite
SPB Brain Evolution
Opening multiple files in Excel Mobile

Hi jonajuna, I am a new Touch HD user (and this is my first PDA). Since you use the Office so extensively, could you please help me - how can I open more than one document e.g. in Excel? I often use Excel documents in my work and I constantly need to copy&paste info from one Excel file into another.
Thanks!
I'm also useing mine for business and pleasure. Works well with appointments, addresses, GPS, etc. during business hours.
I've picked up an HTC Touch HD, and I'm a semi-business/pleasure/personal user.
Here are some of the items that I found were useful for me.
As far as the MSDict and MSPhrase apps go, you can find English -> Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Russian, Malaysian, Chinese (trad and simplified), Korean and so on!
Here are the links for the Japanese one since I've been up all night downloading these.

And SPB Traveler is great when it comes on converting common knowledge from overseas such as units, clothing sizes and linguistics as it helps me identify and use the right phrases.

Also, since I'm both in class and at work, sometimes I'll need a really powerful calculator and the Touch HD does not disappoint with it's capabilities.

There you go, hope this helps.
