Hi there - I would love to know which ROM is the best and the fastest for the TYTN - there are so many but which one is the best ?
Pls give me your opnions !
Peter
My opinion is that you will need a flame-proof suit.
Each ROM is different, try them and choose what you prefer. The official release ROMS are apparently quite good. I personaly use Black Majik, and will update to Black Satin when it is available.
best rom
yes I tried several rom and the best one is black majik because it very fast and stable
if you want it send me your email
my actual ROM dates are:
Schap`s 3.30
Radio: 1.41.00.10
Do I have to change the CID an the RADIO version in order to install the Black Majik ?
Is there any description of the process for a layman ?

edit: hmm weird wmblack.info says it isnt available.. but im certain i downloaded black satin already as thats what ive been using as a test rom in core pro... weird.. let me go check.
Do you like Coke Zero or Pepsi Max?
I'm running Black Majik at the moment but really like Schap's ROMS.
Looking forward to his new one being released.
If you haven't loaded a cooked ROM before make sure you read the instructions on this forum.
Easier to spend some time reading now compared to spending time later trying to fix.

Peter,
Read read read.. . However, to answer some questions and hopefully help.
Try looking over my experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315119. I describe, with lots of relevant links, of my very successful experience with moving from WM5 to WM6 and Black MAJIK and the (then) latest radio version of 1.43.
No you do not need to change CID or radio to change OS ROM (ROM is in 3 variants: Radio, Extended and OS) Some upgrade ROMs can comprise any single, any mix or all ROMs combined - you'll need to read up on this on the actual ROM post links. The Hermes Wiki is the starting point but my experience will certainly help)
I have no experience of other ROMs but after LOTS of reading selected Black MAJIK and have not looked back since - see my linked post for comments from others too.
The Black series of OS ROMs are produced by JJ and he is working on a newer ROM called Black SATIN. JJ has a web site with basic 'Black' ROM info (http://wmblack.info/) and the download link. However, this only links to the latest 'Black' OS ROM and the latest version (SATIN) was broken so has been taken off the site. Take a look around for other posted links to his earlier version of Black MAJIK and you should find it if wanted (others are already asking and it's posted there somewhere I am sure - many of use have it on our PCs.
Black SATIN is based upon one of the official OS ROM releases (most other OS ROMs are not) but has been 'cooked' to modify it by adding/removing elements and optimising performance. All of the WM6 ROMs out there will have their fans and although the many posts are VERY long it is worth at least skim reading a few to get the general impression of the qualities of the ROM that you are interested in.
If you do not want to unblock your device (Super CID) to work with any sim card then the process could be:
1. Backup device settings/files and get all the files and config details saved
2. Read the advice then - Install Hard SPL
3. Read the advice then - Install new OS
4. Read the advice then - Install the new radio ROM
5. Rebuild and configure the device
The above process can be done physically in about 1 hour! BUT there is lots of reading to do. I personally spent about 3 days reading and alraedy had lots of knowldege - this is not actually required but such reading will greatly ease your fears of 'bricking' your device and leave you better able to cope should anything go wrong. When you have done it once then the process is very simply and you'll not think much of doing it all again - that's why so many people just tell you to read the posts and especially the wiki because they did for very good reason.
Warning - if you mess up the process by not following the very clear instructions then chances are it will have ben your own fault. But others will be there to help and it is most unlikely that someone on this site has not seen your problem.
Good luck
Thanks for the link - but under "Upgrading to WM6 Black Shadow" I get the answer "not released yet" - so from where do I get the Black Shadow rom file ???

Peter,
You must have misread my post. I assume that you mean the link to Black MAJIK - and if so then I wrote:

Your reply above to Peter7 ... "Read read read..etc" is one of the most succinct, clearly written & easy to understand posts I've read since I've started visiting here. From reading it ... and following the link to wmblacks website, I've found a ROM that I'm willing to try as my first departure from the native WM5 ROM that came with my Dopod 838Pro. My only disappointment is that Black Satin is not yet available.
Oh, well! I guess after I've upgraded once, a second upgrade will be all that much easier.
Regards ... and have a good day!

Hi guys!
I'm not easily puzzled by terms and stuff to do to tweak your hardware, but since I'm all new to WM, I am trying to make sense of how to go ahead with running a custom ROM. I have a TC with original UK ROM.
First, obviously I should make a dump of my currently installed ROM. I am just very unsure how I achieve that?
Second, I have figured out that I need to Hard-SPL to get rid of certificate-checking in de device to run ROMs.
Third, I need to flash a custom ROM ... at this point I can have my way with the device, and do what I want. Also, not clear how I do that, unfortunately
Offcourse, at some point I will want to return my device for maintenance, warranty or maybe even sell it ... at which point I need to un-do the HardSPL hack, and reflash with the original image ... How would I go about that?
I've searched the forum, and I couldn't find it unfortunately, maybe, since I am a newbie, I missed a term to search for, or maybe I completely misunderstood
Any hints are very welcome!

All of your questions had been answered a number of times already in this forum so there's only one thing you can do, Search and you will find the answers.
Hi. I'm actually searching for the same stuff and haven't found some all-in-one topic yet.
Don't mind "kutonglupa", i'm beginning to think he's a bot on this forum. Even though you say (i did it too) that you used the search function he can only come with one response: "use the search".
I'll keep searching too.
Try this for starters: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
You probably know this already
Hard-spl flash:
Download hard-spl
Plug the usb cable to your pda.
Run RomUpdateUtiliy on PC.
PDA will display tricolour.
You will be asked REPLUG you usb cable. DO IT!
After a few second Hard-spl will be upgraded!
Rom flash:
Download the rom
Step manually to bootloader (press and hold camera button and press reset)
You will get a tricolor screen.
Plug the usb cable to your pda
Start RomUpdateUtiliy.exe (or Rom.exe) on you Pc.
Pda screen will be grey, you will see the process indicator.
When it is 100%, update is finished.
Radio-rom flash
The same as rom flash above, just download and use the radio-rom.
Back to offical rom + radio:
The same as rom flash above, just download and use the offical rom!
Back to original spl:
At this time no working method as I know...

Newbie thanks for opening this thread,
it give a very good overview what to really do for flashing the Rom without having to read through XX Pages.
Unfortunately I have still have not found a right link on how to backup my orginal O² German ROM.
What do I need for this just in case I do need to send in the Polaris?
Is the software specifc for the Polaris?
Look forward for a quick note.
Cheers

Be careful with what you try from the Kaiser forum in terms of tweaks though, I've read people had problems using them on the Polaris. see the Polaris tips and tricks thread for details

Thanks dude. You're welcome!
I was reading now in the whole forum for about two whole afternoons, and I have to say that I still have the same questions as the threadstarter.
These questions answered once and for all, this thread would be worth pinning in my opinion, because complete newbies don't know where to find the necessary information in this really huge forum.
For the case someone wants to come up again with "use search", I will try to make clear, what problems of newbies (including me) are:
For example: I now already found three different lists of HTC-cab-files in the forum, one here in the polaris-section, one in the general section, a half one in the wiki... often without version-info, and so don't really know whats the actual one...
so far so confusing, I tried to search for the answers onto the exact same questions as the threadstarter posted. in the wiki, there is simply nothing on WM6, no tools, no real how-to, nothing a newbie can use.
Only thing I could understand from wiki, is that cooking an own ROM, needs to have a unix(-like) OS, and even there, I'm not sure if it is still actual for WM6.
Reading a bit around, I then was glad to at least find out that the devices are locked for non-certified ROMs, and that one needs to do that HardSPL.
Well that's as far as I could get until now, and I really don't know much more than before. Pretty unsatisfactory...
So could anyone make (or point to) a little overview of what one needs to know about dumping, flashing WM6-ROMs, and before flashing, what one needs to "cook" an own ROM.
Perhaps I was imagining this way to easy, but I thought about nLite/vLite-style applications for customizing ROMs?! Probably you'll all laugh at me, but I would very much appreciate taking me serious, because I want to learn how to do it. Simply don't want to lose time searching the forum for information, that don't help me advance...
thanks a lot
Eric
EDIT:
well I found this, which I can only recommend to all newbies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
with this, questions of flashing are all answered,
but what tools one needs for dumping, flashing, editing ROMs and all of the remaining questions mentioned above remain open
...and i would like some suggestions, maybe a point in the right direction from the experts here plz, some step by steps would be nice . Any help would be greatly appreciated
thank you

You said you need a step by step?
Here you go. There is three different ones. The first one and last are the same author just different locations.
1. Need to unlock with spl first. version 2.40 or 2.47 Here is the spls
2. Flash radio HERE is 3.42.50
3. Flash the rom of choice. There are three different links in my signature. 6.5 roms
Don't hesitate to post. there are plenty of people here that know what to do. Good Luck. You can Pm me if need be.
Updated post above with the files needed to unlock and the most current radio.
Rom choice is yours.
Going to try 6.5 tonight for the first time. Thanks for the links
can I use those files, even if I am on Telus in Canada? or do I need different radio and rom?
For most ROMs (Ryan's are the main exception that I am aware of), you will simply need to install the appropriate carrier cab and you will be fine.

sweet - thought I saw that somewhere. This thread is going sticky for me!!!
another question - do I have to enable GPS everytime I hard reset now?
or are the ROM's already have the info for the GPS instead of having to QPST and put in the values?
it would be nice to have to just sync contacts then load the apps I want off of a sd card, and that's it. Could almost do that on the go.......sweet

You will not need to re-do any QPST settings unless you flash a stock ROM. You will need to re-do your registry settings each time, though. You can import those easily, though, so it's no big deal. Using an auto-install program such as UC (if the chef supports it) or SASHIMI (if they don't - and this one is my personal preference) makes reflashing a snap. It won't take you very much time at all to have all of your cabs and most of your settings automatically get set up for you.
Hey, If i upgrade to 6.5 and i wont like it.. can i downgrade to 6.1, if it makes sense?
Also can i have some help on how to upgrade, i looked through a lot of pages but i only found topics, where people found problems or what they like or how to change etc. but none on how to actually upgrate to 6.5.
Thanks
Yes you can but I dont think that will be nessery.

2) Connect your phone to your PC via Active Sync
3) Run the downoladed Rom and follow the guide.

"installing" 6.5 *is* flashing. Your phone doesn't just do an upgrade, it completely removes EVERYTHING, and then replaces it with the newer version.
You should install HardSPL first, no matter what you do (it's just good to have).
then, follow method 1 or 2 described in my post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585201)
also, 99% of all ROMs you will find here come with windows 6.5 (a ROM is practically a version of that windows package, many smaller differences, all built on the same foundation)
if you need even more detail, just ask.
only difference in therms
installing installs software on the current system
flashing changes software on the ROM
Hey everyone,
There are multiple discussions going on here, and it is confusing me a lot.
I just need a FULL step-by-step guide for removing the Telstra ROM and installing the latest official HTC ROM on my device since Telstra put a LOT of garbage on the phone, even at startup and launching the Opera browser.
So again, step-by-step is the best option and I am willing to donate $10 via PayPal to whoever can help me out.
Please reply quickly, I eagerly wait!

What Telstra Rom version are you running?
I'm running 1.49.841.1 (71528) WWE. It is the default out of the box Telstra ROM which I sort of hate (too much garbage and branding, even when loading up Opera it says Telstra).
I just need a step-by-step guide on removing it and installing the Official HTC ROM on it.
Waiting for more replies.
Read the stickies. They are most important.
Hi Steve,
actually the Step-by-step is pretty easy:
Step 1: Download and install HSPL. Your existing ROM version should allow you to do this with no fiddling at all. Just hook up the phone via USB, and run the HSPL executable.
Step 2: Select the ROM you want to use. I haven't tried any of the official ROMs, as I find the cooked ones to be more desirable. I only mention this is a step because depending on which ROM you want to use, you may need to flash the radio as well.
Step 3: If you are using a ROM requiring a new radio (which many of the newer ones do), and the ROM you are installing does not include a radio ROM (most cooked ROMs don't, but i believe many of the stock ones do), download and install the appropriate radio (please see notes below). Again, just connect the phone via USB, and run the radio installer.
Step 4: Download and install the ROM you want. With HSPL installed this is again as easy as connecting via USB and running the ROM installer. Don't worry too much about MTTY at this stage - you won't need it unless you reflash several times.
That's about it. I've reflashed mine dozens of times with no problems at all. As a footnote, some people on the forums have reported problems with flashed NextG phones not connecting to the internet properly after flashing. I have tried lots of cooked ROMs (and several radios too), and so far not one has affected my ability to connect to HSDPA. My experience has been that the 2.06 radios seem to work best, while the 2.07 and earlier 2.08 got really bad reception. 2.08.50.08_2 works beautifully with mine and gets very strong reception (with maybe a little more battery drain than 2.06). The only thing I have noticed is that the available bands displayed in 3G settings may not list the 850 band - this is cosmetic only and can be changed with a simple REG file, but really isn't necessary.
Please let me know if you need any help or advice - I'd be happy to help in any way that I can......
Hey,
Yes I have actually read most of the stickies, there is only one problem.
I can't really put all the pieces of the puzzle in a good order, step-by-step. I just need to know how to do it step-by-step because right now they are all over the place and it is a little confusing.
@cheesekeeper: that is a really nice post, would you be able to add in a little more detail on how to do it such as how to install HSPL, which version and where to download.
Also, where would I download the official HTC ROM, because when I try the official website, I can't enter in my S/N because it says it isn't compatible with my device.
Any ideas? Thx!!
Would anyone mind making a video tutorial on how to do this?
The tutorial on how to flash a new rom is a summation of all steps and is as step by step as you can get. You first need to see if you can get a copy of your original rom though, so you can return to this in the event of any problems and if you need to return your phone for a warranty claim.
Then as Cheeskeeper says you'll need to install hspl. Provided your current spl is 1.42.0000 then it is easy to do. Connect to usb and run the exe file.
Then you will need to flash your new radio. Most of the newer roms require either radio 2.07 or 2.08 - there is a radio thread also in the stickies. When you extract the file you will find a .nbh file which you will need to rename to RUU_Signed.nbh (if it isn't already), download the CustomRUU and put this into the same folder as the radio file above (only these 2 files). Run the CustomRUU and the radio will be flashed.
Then flash to your rom of choice. Again there will be a RUU file and a nbh file. You can just run the RUU file (again with just the RUU and nbh files in a folder) and the rom will be installed.
After flashing do a hard reset. When the phone boots up pull the battery out and while holding the vol up and down buttons in, switch the phone on and follow the instructions on screen. That's it, done.
If you want to keep to a stock rom though without changing your spl then you will need to use sspl.
You'll find all of the steps and tools in the link at the bottom of my signature. There is also a video of the process in the stickies.
I'd suggest starting by looking at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
This pretty much explains everything you need to get started, and has links to HSPL in the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
This one contains download links to most of the radio ROMs in the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
This has links to many of the stock ROMs. All of these are stickies in this group so they are pretty easy to find. If you want to try a cooked ROM instead (I'd suggest taking a look) you can find posts and links right throughout this forum - the most popular ROMs are always within the first 1-2 pages of posts......

Switch phone off, hold volume down button and switch on. It will boot into a three coloured screen and will show spl version.
Do a soft reset while holding down volume until u see the bootloader screen.
Report back to us with what it states....
Once complete, getting out of the bootloader screen requires another soft reset via the red button....

No, that's the right spl for using hspl. To get back to normal, either pull the battery or press the little red button under the battery cover, as stated by band27 above.

You'll find many stock roms here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
There is also a link to a Shared folder with many different versions. I believe the latest official is 1.66, but there are roms from T Mobile US going up to 2.10. For 1.66 you probably won't need to change your radio, but you will for the later roms. What radio version do you have?
