Hi guys, has anyone noticed that when using WM5storage, if the LED backlight goes down (device going into standby/"sleep-y" mode, current transfers freeze on the pc, and subsequent attempts to disable WM5storage cause a freeze (moving pinwheel) that can only be rectified by resetting the device manually (button on back).
Any ideas? when copying 1gb files i keep poking the screen every 10seconds but im hoping theres a better solution

I think this happens only to some versions. Have you tried using version 1.73?

I've always used 1.73. However, be careful because there are more than one versions of 1.73 around, and they do not work the same.
That's one of the reasons why I never like the ones cooked into ROMs because they are not stable for me. The newer versions have always been problematic.

Would it be OK to ask if you could post the CAB file of 1.73 that you are currently using?
I had installed version 1.80 and encountered the same thing. I just was not sure which application caused that, then I read this thread.

Thank you. I appreciate it.
i had 1.8 on, but put 1.73 back on.
unfortunately that means i have to reboot every time i run wmstorage as I will lose my sd card.
lose lose situation..
c'mon igor
Why not put your device setting to "not turn OFF" while plugged-in and make sure that you set the screen "not to turn off at a certain time". This way even when you are connected to active sync, your device will not shut down, even using version 1.8.

Reboot? Why? I never do, and I don't lose my sd card. ???? If you sd card disappear, simply take it out and reinsert it back. It will reappear.
Strange
my SD card never disappear ( touch wood ) I use v1.72 by the way, the other versions did give me some problems ( I don't remember what now because its long time since I tried any other version)
I posted it way back somewhere in these forums for another user with similar problems as you and He seemed very happy, just in case you are interested to try.
eaglesteve, igor added a feature in 1.8 to fix lock issues with cards... i suffer from this.
i'd rather reboot to fix than open up my device tray to access the sd card to cycle.
i'll try the power settings trick, but it's pretty frustrating either way... when plugged in and charging, the backlight will always be on (overnight) unless i change the profile *every charge*. so i have to swap the settings every time back and forth.
Why doesn't the activity of wm5storage keep the device from going into a standby mode anyways?.....seems silly not to..

i think it may be a common problem on wm6, which i assume you are running (i checked your other posts) read the relevant wm6 thread
maybie its a good idea to fall bacj wm5 is there a aku 3.5 rom present?

It is an issue with the batterystatus program. Newer versions have this "fixed". If you use the "lock on wake" it solves this wakey thing somewhat.
--M
If you set a password in Windows Mobile 6, the device keeps on turning on by itself. It has nothing to do with any battery status program, I encounterd this problem with all WM6 roms available up till now (also latest Faria crossbow rom)
Up till now there are two solutions:
-you remove the password (through 'Lock' in configuration panel)
-you press the build in today item 'Lock' before turning off the device
pffff i have a strange problem when i remove the mini-sd card i doesn't happen anymore so there is a new solution

I do have a MiniSD card, only by removing the password, the device didn't turn on any more, but I still keep the sd card inside the device, so I don't think there is a real relation.
did you apply this tweak? I found it on this forum, but can't remember the exact location... hope it will help for you
Battery drain tweak? May solve drain !
I was using for a long time the rom from QTek with version 2.18. The reason that I sticked so long to this rom is because its efficiency with the battery. As soon I updated to a newer AKU rom I experienced the same problem, in standby it drains much more battery than this QTek rom. Normal a night it costs about 1%, with the newer roms is dropped as soon as 20%. I searched for a reason and finally I found it. I removed the SD card and I saw the problem solved. So there must be something with the SD Card. I searched in the registery and found that the power management function for the SD Card driver is disabled. This means the sd card is always enabled and at full function (= full power).
If you like to enable the power management function of this driver change this key in the registery
HKLM/Drivers/SDCARD/ClientDrivers/Class/SDMemory_Class/DisablePowerManagement change this value to 0. And try then.
I use now WM6 and changed this value, now it is using less battery than the qtek rom.
Without this setting I was able to user Crossbow and newer AKU roms for MAX 48 hours. Normal (and now) it is 4 ~ 5 days or even more if I keep it more standby

Hi Guys
Been having the usual "Turn on" problem with my TyTN since having it, you know, very occasionaly - maybe once a week - you try to turn it from the button on the side and it wont. No matter what you do it stays off and you have to soft-reset.
Well, over the past few weeks its been getting MUCH worse. Im now resorting to rebooting the phone maybe 8 or 9 times a day! I have tried various diferent ROMS and the same issue keeps occuring. I've also checked the ROMS threads to see if anyone else has had this problem as severe as me and they haven't.
I REALLY like my TyTN and don't want to be forced into buying a new phone with the Ultimates just down the roads.
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance!

The problem is you have told us nothing about what is running whether you leave it to sleep by itself what's on the today plugins whether you have active sync turned off (ie set to manual) etc etc etc and which of the freezing fixes you have tried. Whether your plugins are on sd card whether it freezes with sd card not inserted etc etc.
Mike
right o' ... get your laughing gear round this
I let it "sleep" itself.
Im running:
Activesync (Exchange push mail - no pattern discovered with regards to receiving new emails)
SPB Weather (Today plugin)
Everything else is standard.
Connecting over 3g/HSDPA
There are other apps installed but these are always "closed" after being used. All apps are installed to the phone memory and not SD card - i've never tried without the card, guess I will try this now! Although, if this is the problem, how do I get around it???? I need my card.

Well I can see why you kept those things secret. If someone asked me to compile a list of things more or less guaranteed to cause freezing and refusal to turn on, I think I'd give 'em a link to your setup!!
If you must have push mail (that requires active sync to be active) and weather applications then you will likely continue to have problems.
You may be able to reduce the number of them by NOT allowing device to sleep by itself. I have mine set to never sleep. However I do always use the on/off button when finished.
It's fine to have applications that require connection to internet and today plugins on main memory BUT others should be on SD card. The reason is that running low on main memory (and not even that low!) can cause freezing.
PIE can rack up loads of storage memory - can move storage to card.
Regularly run a third party clean out application.
Mike
PS. resisted the urge to get my laughing gear out. Think I was in shock actually. You could consider writing a "how not to setup your Hermes" guide.

Why would these apps cause it to lock up? One comes with the operating system and one connects to the net once a day. Surley Outlook can't be that unstable as to cause lockups on average every two hours. I doubt SPB Weather is that unstable as well!
Yes, I must have push email. Why waste battery power polling every thirty minutes or so with pull email?
The memory card is going back in. I took it out, went to Sainsburys and BAM its locked again
I will now try the "no auto sleep" thing and see how that goes so thanks for that suggestion.
i had problems like these with my Tytn and eventually upgraded to WM6 (Black 2.5). It really made a difference. Much faster, never freezes and battery life is better.
Severe fix I know but worth considering

TOTALLY agree with you there Mike. I was having some real issues with the "coma" effect once the device has automatically gone into sleep mode, this wa admittedly on the original HTC ROM, and was caused by pocketzenphone however since I have (without fail) set the device to NEVER switch off automatically and have got into the good habit of using the on/off button liberally.

It has! Sadly though it was still "sleeping".
However, i have taken it out of auto sleep and put it to manual, guess what .... been a couple of hours now and NO lockup! Yay!

Even official applications are not immune from problems. The Hermes perhaps for some configurational reasons (though it's not just Hermes)does not like running active sync from sleep mode and it does not like running other applications that require syncing (eg. weather type ones).
Active Sync is not a particularly stable app and combine this with the Hermes weakness when being allowed to sleep by itself and you end up with a lock-up. (I have seen some explanations for this but only guess work and theories)
Many people have set their devices up to run active sync in manual mode only and this does help to reduce freezing. Of course you cannot do this with push mail enabled. (It might be possible to run some script or a scheduler programme to start and stop Active sync at set times - though the complexities here are as likely to cause a freeze as anything else!!
I am pleased your SD card seems not to be the cause - it can be for some.
I see you are possibly getting some benefit from a manual shut down rather than auto sleep
You may find the odd other idea on my site - freezing/lockups:
http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com
There is a thread here somewhere but i'd need to search for the thread.
You could also try doing without the weather app for a test. However you may not see a difference as active sync is already running for the mail.

Sorry, didn't notice that......
Hi Mike
Turning off the auto sleep thingy has worked a treat. I'm down to one reboot a day now and that has been related to t-mobiles 3g network failure collapse me thinks
So this tip alone is worth its weight in gold!
SPB Weather is running and so is Activesync/push email.
Also now added today plugins:
RhinoStats (CPU/memory monitor - realtime)
RhinoLaunch (custom program launcher)
All seems pukka and "coma" free
Good news, pleased things have improved.
Of course I suppose we could all agree auto sleep should not cause the device to go into a "coma", but still, I've got used to just using the on/off button. Curiously this has improved my battery life as I turn off as soon as I finish, rather than waiting for it to turn itself off (which it won't anyway as I disabled that mode).

I'll share my experience so that maybe it will help. I use WM6 on my 8525 and have found the "unable to wake" problem to be related to my SPB Mobile Shell. When I have the phone set to display SPB Mobile Shell's "Now Screen" upon wakeup, it quite often will not wake. But if I manually put the phone to "sleep" mode, then it will always pop alive fine. Disabling the Now Screen all together leaves me no problem. My guess is maybe it's an SPB issue. So maybe SPB Weather is causing it. I used to use SPB Weather before Mobile Shell, but since Shell has weather built in, I don't need SBP Weather any longer.
Hope this helps diagnose the problem a bit. For the record, I never had a wakeup problem with WM5.
Since going to black 2.5 and then 3.0 I have not had any of the sleep issues.
I run SPB Weather which is set to update every 5 hours, I run activesync to the exchange server which checks emails every 2 hours. My phone auto-offs after 3 minutes.
I did have AS set to When it arrives - but found this to be bad for battery and also stability. Every ten minutes was fine when I needed more urgency. All programs are installed to the phone, exept pie cache and outlook attachments which are on the card. I have not done any special tricks to avoid any sleep/card problems.
Recently, my hd2 has been getting very, very hot and the battery is draining in a few hours.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it going to be a case of replacing it?

Have a look at the processes. See if there are any abnormal processes that take up huge chunk of memory.
If problem still can't be identified, perform a hard reset. That should solve the problem.

Im going to re-flash, and see if that will help at all.
any abnormal heating means there'z enough current flowing to actually raise the temperature of the device, i cannot believe just allot of open apps are able to do that.
if hard reset doesn't solve, it's a clear case of waranty replacement

Done.
I know for a fact my memory card has something wrong with it, it doesn't always work in the phone or my SLR.
But could it really cause heating?
I had the same symptoms that you mention: overheating, fast discharging of battery. The new memory card was to blame - I formatted it using the phone utility and voila!
try that and report if it helped...

Indeed, it worked
But now the phone is with Tmob being fixed... Backlight wont go off, at all lol
I'm having the same issue. My HD2 has all of suddent started heating up and the battery discharges quite quickly, from 100% to 15% in the space of 3 hours. I have tried a hard reset installing the ROM again (which I have done loads of times before) formatting my 8GB SD Card and also using the 2GB SD Card which came with it. Another thing which I have noticed is my Internet connection has dropped dramatically, I no long get push emails off my exchange server and send/receive of my IMAP email takes ages even on WiFi.
I have reported this to HTC already, I guess my next option is to report to Vodafone, good thing I still havent cancelled my insurance that came with the phone. Wonder if offered a replacement I would still opt for the same phone or go for one of the android HTC handsets, any suggestions?
I´m sorry if this problem has been solved elsewhere, but i´m not able to find any description of the problem like mine.
The problem is, that my HD2 won´t wake up from "sleep" sometimes, most after about half an hour of sleep. The screen and the keys gets lit up, but the screen stays blank. This has happened to me with diefferent ROMs (i tried Dorimanx, Hyperdroid, Nexus ICS and EVO ICS), but it worked with both Dorimanx and Hyperdroid for some time. First i had the same issue with these roms, but i managed to get them to work. But the problem is: I dont know how.
Now, after running on Hyperdroid for some time (witout any problems) i flashed the NEXUS HD2 ICS ROM from Tytung, and i´m having the same problem again. I did a clean install, tried with task29 and factory reset in the recovery, but nothing worked. Any suggestions?
Sorry for bad English btw
I thought the bsod was fixed ages ago? .. weird. And since it's an issue JUST with you on EVERY rom, it might be hardware related, I cannot say for sure. Maybe a logcat will help us get something?

+1, this issue was supposed to have been fixed a while ago. I'm also guessing it's some sort of hardware fault.
It seems to be a problem with the sd-card.. or more likely the format or the ext partition. I took it out, and the problem disappeared. But the card cant be broken, since it worked on the previous rom.. any ideas?
[Edit] Now i´ve Formattet and created a 1GB ext4 partition with the ext4 recovery, and reflashed the ROM and the 40a2sdx-a2recovery.zip script. I´ll try just not to put anything on the sd-card, and see if the problem still appears..
Now it happened again, without anything on the sd-card other than the ext4 partiton (and the .zip´s for the rom and the a2sdx script, but that should not change anything?). Am i doing anything wrong with the formatting or the partition, or is the sd-card just broken? I dont know what to do.. Do i have to buy a new micro-sd card? I have a 32gb sandisk class 4 card btw
No ideas? I´m getting a bit frustrated after hours and hours of searching the web and flashing different roms, recoverys and stuff. How can it be a problem with the sd-card, when i have used this one for the last rom, too, which worked just perfect?
Try setting the CPU-s minimum frequency to 384 or higher. If problem still appears, try setting the governor to performance and the max. frequency to for eg. 1036. The second solution will eat your battery but try it. I don't think the answer I gave you is right and I think your problem is due something damaged in your phone inside because my minimum freq. is 96.
EDIT:
Fix for Black Screen of Death
Black Screen of death occurs in many different phones like Htc Hd2, droid, Samsung..(With Android Rom Mainly). It is not caused by hardware, software or battery issues but because of Android Rom and clash of few settings. The screen will be black and the lights will be lit up and screen won't wake up. The only temporary fix is pull the battery. Annoying as hell. But, screen of death continues. My Solution ( it works on HTC Hd2) go to settings> personal> display settings. Deselect automatic brightness(No auto brightness).Screen time out 1 Minutes (No 30 Sec). Animation medium. Apply Settings. Okay.Go to settings again. Settings>system> Wlan (wireless network) > advance settings > wlan sleep policy > select never. Apply settings. Okay. Restart Phone twice to apply settings and test your phone. you screen should not go blank. Optional install android assistant & battery monitor widget that might prevent screen of death in certain cases. Good Luck!

Are you really unable to change the sd-card? Why not get an upgrade? maybe a better class? or a higher storage? (I know you have a 32 GB class 4 sd card, it's really hard to upgrade that, I understand)
If you don't want to, you have to narrow down the problem.
Try a different recovery ( I doubt this has anything to do with it, but you gotta try)
Try a different fs. (other than ext4, give ext3 a shot)
Are they both set to primary and not logical? (I thought it shouldn't work if either is set to logical? perhaps I'm wrong)
What is the fs of your main partition? (Are you sure it's FAT32?)
Try to check for bad sectors.
^I know it's too much, and you can try from the most likely to the least likely. (Sorry, I do not know the order)
Or, you can sit tight and wait for other answers.

Yeah, its much, but i must say i have tried nearly everthing. I tried different recoverys, both ext4 and ext3, both of the fs are set to primary and the main fs is FAT32. I´ll try to check for bad sectors, and if i get the black screen next time i´ll try with another sd-card. Until then, if any of you have any other ideas or suggestions.. But thanks for the try
It happened again-.- No other solutions? am i really the only one suffering from this issue? BTW, anyone know what caused this problem, when you say it was "fixed long time ago"? I realized i have the 3.0.0 recovery, could this be part of the problem? Looks like I´ll have to try another card, but i dont know why that should be the problem, since this one worked for my previous rom...
You can try to upgrade your recovery, since nothing else is working for you. It is worth a shot.
I'm experiencing the same issue since I changed my SD card. I'm running NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2. It was very slow with a class 2 card, but I had no wakeup freezes. After I upgraded to a class 10 card it's much faster, but I also started experiencing those wakeup freezes.
First I changed the cpu frequency range to 128-998, I kept smartassv2 as the governor and I also disabled wifi (someone else suggested keeping it always on as a possible workaround). I haven't had any freezes for almost 24h. I suspect it freezes while trying to turn wifi back on during wake up, but it definitely has something to do with the card, too, because when using the other (slower) card the rom was stable.
I haven't had any issues of this kind with any other rom.

Thank you both I´ll update my recovery, change sd-card and make another clean install. Its a bit weird, but we´ll see
Ok, seems like the sd-card really was the problem. I changed to an 8GB card, and i have not had the issue since. Everything is a bit slow, and some apps need time to load, but that could be because it is a slower card.. i hope. I think i´ll buy an 32gb class 10 card, and hope that it works and is faster Thank you all for the ideas and help. I hope my problem is solved :victory:
yup.. same problem a while ago..

Install Easy Task Killer and manage it properly
Try using a High Speed Micro-SD Card.
When it comes to HD2. you can face "n" number of issues
Don't use task killer!

I read many senior members giving the same advice. Task Killers are a pain if you use them randomly. I configured Easy Task Killer to kill only specific and useless apps/process.. all required apps and processes are ignored by it.
By using SystemCleanUp i have disabled all useless autoruns.. my roms are much faster and stable now.
HD2 has too less RAM for not using Task Killers.
Using Task Killers and SystemCleanUp even on my Asus Transformer TF101..

no need for this.
Go to Settings, then Buttons, and there you have it, after options for search key.
SD problem
I have cm11.0-20140627. (I installed the latest version but the phone kept rebooting, so I reinstalled the 27/06 version).
The problem I have is that the phone keeps removing the SD card when it wakes up or when it turns on. Therefore, I have to open the lid, remove the SD card and place it again in the phone. Is this a common bug?
I've tried to format the SD but the problem still remains.

Perhaps it's related to the Wi-Fi. Can you try turning off Wi-Fi, and making sure it does not enable itself for location scanning. Also, if this happens, I'd like logs (the app is on my thread which you can use to get the logs).
sd card swapping
hey ..can you tell me a way of swapping or emulating internal sd card as external
i have a broken sd card slot and the camera features and other feature can't be used without it..

The Wifi isn' t enabled for location scanning and the problem occurs also when the wifi is turned off.
you mentioned something about logs. Do you mean the "data.txt" file?
I guess it doesn't have personal data in it, does it?
If not, I'm sending it right away!

I promised this to someone some time ago, but never implemented it. Actually today's release is a bit experimental on some sides, so if there are issues I will do another one soon, with the swappable storage patch. Things like this (swappable storage) are really useful features, but they break CM's policies and that's why they don't merge this stuff. I will add it to my own builds from now on though .

Yes, the data.txt would be useful. The log could contain sensitive information though, you can check it for any potential usernames, serial numbers and mac addresses. If you want you can also send it to me as a PM, if you're ok with that.
I actually had a similar issue a long time ago, but my SD card was dying and one day the Wi-Fi would not turn on anymore (the Wi-Fi bus and SD card bus are using the same driver, which got confused). You mentioned you were using the 06/28 release, the issue is not present there?

Here's the data.txt.
View attachment data.7z
The issue is present with the 28/06 version, I just had problem with the new ones (the phone kept rebooting with the 07/09 version).
When you have the time to check it, keep in mind that there could be a connection between my problem and wifi tethering ( I think this problem started when I first used wifi tethering).

Thanks.
From the log I can see it fails on resume, possibly because in my ROM the SD card power is turned off and for some reason it fails to react after power is turned on again.
In stock Huawei ROMs they did not do that, which increases power consumption too (in some cases some users reported that without the SD card they'd get double the battery). So I enabled it in my ROM (it's actually enabled by default in Qualcomm development boards too).
I will debug this problem, perhaps it needs a delay when resuming.
Btw, if you have installed the last version, do you still get reboots?

I will install it today. Just to make it clear, is it better to wipe data/cache/dalvik before installing the new rom, after the installation or can I just install it without wiping anything?
After edit:
I installed it without wiping anything. No reboots, it is functional (~1.5 hour).
I will come back with any news. Thanks!!

Does the phone vibrate when you press it? And other buttons (especially back) works?
I haven't had the issue myself, so I don't really know what to fix.

The phone does vibrate when I press menu but not work.so I reflash the rom .and it works .but after sometime it is not work again
I think it is due to software conflics.
Will you add cm11's double tap weak to u8800?
Hi Blefish!
The problem with the SD card has reappeared. Now I have the 28/10 version and besides this problem, everything is fine.
I have a bug..
Hi Blefish. I have a bug in latest build (cm11-2014-10-28).
"Import/Export from SIM Card" doesn't work on "Contacts" and I can not import/export contacts from SIM card. This is working previous version.
Thanks. It is great work. A lot thanks.
More RAM?
"For more RAM: Settings->Performance->Memory management."
I can't find "Performance" on the general settings "menu/app".
Is there another "Settings" menu/app?

I think you need to enable Developer options first. Settings->About. Tap the build number 7 times to enable Performance options. Oh, make sure you do not enable KSM, as it breaks camera after using it for some time (only reboot helps). I will remove KSM option in next release.

Thanks!
Found it Wasn't aware of this
Yes, I saw the issue with KSM, not going to enable!
By the way, I found some issues with the ROM, don't know if this is the right place but can't post anywhere else lol
1- Camera doesn't work withou SD card in slot. Crashes. (It should use internal memory in that case shouldn't it?)
2- Sometimes can't turn location (GPS?) completely off, either thru the status bar menu or thru the power widget. Have to go to Settings->Personal->Location and turn it off.
3- Still haven't fully charged with the wall charger (only with USB port from laptop) but seems to drain the battery a lot! Before could last 4 days (oxygen ROM on 2.3.x) but only during the night lost about 60% charge.
Thanks for the great work!
Having Bluetooth working is a major plus
Edit: Sorry, using 20140907...wrong zip file... my mistake!
