Ok, now having mastered uploading of Roms to my XDA, I am wondring which one is the best.
I am currently Using the T-Mobile rom. but so far it has formatted my SD card 3 times.
Good things I like. about this one, The T-Mobile Battery display. The quick links in the bottom right hand bar and the sounds not starting low and gradually getting higher in volume.
I like the ATT Rom
Mainly that I have found this one to be the quickest rom, not as much needing to soft-reset and it seems to be able to do everything I want.... The only downside is the volume where it constantly keeeps changing it when a sound starts. (Annoying as I use my XDA as my alarm clock)
so far I LOVE the ATT rom (as you have probebly figured) but what about everyone else. What have you found to be ther best.
Oh and By the way my original was a
02XDA
Bootloader 5.17
Rom Version 3.14.17 ENG
Rom Date 10/11/02
Radio version 4.17
Protocol Version 32s54
I have never encountered any SD erasing with 4.01.00 ... so it's the best for me
i also used 4.01 and never had a sd erasure
I've also become very frustrated with T-Mobile's "official" ROM since it has formatted or corrupted my SD Card 5 times with all of the (what seems to be superstitious) measures taken. Are there any issues with the 4.01.00 ROM?
By the way, is T-Mobile aware of the problems with their official ROM?
Shawn
A30.09 officialrom i recommend it
i think A30.09 is cool try and do it with urself
A30.09 is the best rom ive ever used much more faster then the tmobile rom
Thanks for the replies. I have A.30.09 on my device now, and so far it seems much better than TMOs ROM (faster, less clutter, more space in ROM). Has anyone experience any erasures with this, or any of ATTs ROMs?
I have read a lot about an "increasing sound" problem with this ROM, but I haven't noticed anything yet. Can someone explain this problem to me?
Thanks,
Shawn
youll notice it when playing mp3 and when being rang or using tomtoms voice navigation it begins low and gets higher, not a problem and much better tehn the tmobile rom, never experianced a SD erase with it
Where can you get the A30.09 ROM ?
I've been running with the TMO rom for a couple of months now, and I've only experienced one erasure ( of a 32Mb MMC card ). I know that the TMO doesn't come with Polyphonic MIDI ringtone support, too. What I'm most concerned with is the drop in signal quality. The new radio stack ( 6.25.02 ) displays MUCH lower signal quality levels than WM2002 ever did.
If there were an upgrade for the radio stack, I'd go for that. Is there a way to bump up the sensitivity or boost some parameters to get better signal quality out of the PPCPE ??
Marcelo
Marcelo,
Since you are on T-Mobile's network, if you want A.30.09, you will want to upgrade the OS only, and not the radio, so you need to use the SD Card upgrade method (search this forum for instructions) to be safest. You can build a ROM at this kitchen:
http://xda.weblink.net
To downgrade your radio, here are two options:
1.) Install the 6.24.00 radio stack found at Yorch's site:
http://www.yorch.net/downloads/ROMS/TMOradiostackupgradeR624 .zip
2.) Load a PPC2002 ROM on your XDA using the SD Card method, then install a packaged ROM with Radio like T-Mobile's previous upgrade or Special Edition ROM v1.2 (search forum for more info, I think it includes radio upgrade), then upgrade to WM2003 using SD Card method.
There's probably another way to just change the radio, much like the package from Yorch's site, but I don't know how to do it.
Personally, I've had an improvement in connection quality with radio 6.25.02, though I think the reception strength indicator shows less than before the upgrade. Make sure your signal has indeed decreased (and doesn't just look worse) before you downgrade.
Hope this helps.

A.30.09 Ring Tones Problem
So far A.30.09 is working great. I am having a problem with the ring tones, however:
I am unable to play any ringtones other than .WAV files. All .WMA or .MID files will not play. If I select a .WMA file for the ring tone, it plays "Windows Default.wav" when I get a call. I can play the .WMA files in other applications, but if I hit the play button in Phone settings, nothing happens (.WAVs play correctly).
I was using PocketZenPhone, but have disabled it while trying to diagnose the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could start looking for the problem? Registry entries, etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is very frustrating.
Also, I can't remember if I included polyphonic support when I cooked my ROM. What can I look for that will tell me that this is installed?
Thanks!

SD card erasure with A.30.09
While I was trying to work out the previous problem in this thread, my device locked up and I had to soft reset. Upon reset, I found that my SD card had been erased. This is the first erasure I've had with A.30.09, and the only one I know of with this ROM.
I formatted this card with StorageTools v1.9 with Backup FAT, but now ST says there is no Backup FAT. I had labeled the card with a card reader, as well. Now, all that remains on the card is the following directory structure:
\Storage Card\Temp
_____\Cookies
__________index.dat
_____\History
__________desktop.ini
__________\History.IE5
_______________desktop.ini
_______________index.dat
_____\Net
__________desktop.ini
__________\Content.IE5
_______________desktop.ini
_______________index.dat
_______________\<4 folders for temp internet files>
And all files/folders have the data/time of the erasure. I store all of my internet cache, cookies, and history on my SD card to save RAM. This was done by modifying the registry entries at:
\HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\
This explains why those files/folders are there, but what I'm not sure of is if this caused the erasure.
With PPC2002, I had no problems storing internet data on my SD card, even when soft booting from a lock-up. I have had many, many erasures or corruptions with WM2003 ROMs. I have outlined the preventative steps I've taken in another thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=48241#48241
But none of this has helped.
Can anyone shed just a little light on this for me?
Is WM2003 unable to use the SD card for temp files?
Do I have to go as far as locking my SD card?
Is WM2003 still so unstable that PPC2002 is a better solution?

Shawn,
The midi support file is installed in your ppc but there's still 1 cab file missing and should be installed to let the midis works as ringtones and sounds better goto this thread and download the cab file CameraRC132_WWE_1.5.sa.zip then install in in you ppc.

About the erasure of the Sd, I have the same problem with 4.01.16 and also the other WM2003 ROMS it's a bug. I hope in WM2003 SE wont exist again, you can get rid of the erasure since you're locking your SD after installing or copying whatever..Or install WM2002 this problem won't happen again to you.
Thanks for the tips, ramram.
Here are some remarks on my XDA issues:
1.) Polyphonic Ringtones not working
Problem: Although polyphonic ringtone support is listed on the Makis and Lumpistefan kitchens, all of the necessary files are not included in the cooked ROM.
Solution: The other files are included in a package I posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=49846#49846
These files take up about ~570kB and need to be in the \Windows directory. This is why I couldn't get .MID files to play.
2.) .WMA ringtones not working
Problem: I had a media player (PocketMusic) associated with .wma files. So I assume that when the OS was trying to play the .wma file for a preview or ring, it was trying to do so through PocketMusic (although PocketMusic was never automatically started).
Solution: Removing this file association corrected the problem. I am also assuming the offending registry key was:
\HKCR\.wma
It would be interesting to see if the same thing would happen with .WAV files if they were associated with a program.
3.) SD Card erasures
Problem: I had (wrongly) concluded from my previous tests and research of other people's experiences that this was a flaw introduced by the T-Mobile developers of the WM2003 ROM for the XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=49388&highlight=#49388
Now I understand that this problem goes much higher up, and is a flaw introduced by the Microsoft developers in the 2003 OS.
Solution: As suggested by ramram, I am keeping my SD card locked as much as possible. This means sacrificing RAM for cache and other temp files. Hopefully a.) this will be corrected in WM2003SE, and b.) someone releases a WM2003SE ROM for the XDA.
If nothing else, from this experience I have found that I do like A.30.09 (ATT) more than 4.01.16 (TMO) for these reasons:
1.) More space for extras when cooking ROM
2.) No unnecessary startup items
3.) Have not observed device turning display on when checking email
4.) "Extras" provided by TMO can be installed on SD Card
5.) Increasing sound "problem" can be advantageous if you are in a quiet meeting and the device begins to sound.
Shawn
History of my XDA 2:
• Supplied with WM2003, no problems.
• Upgraded to WM2003SE, no problems.
• Recently upgraded to WM2005, phone did not work ("No Service" everywhere I went).
• Downgraded to WM2003SE, no problems, phone works fine.
• Tried upgrading to WM2005 again, phone does not work again.
I have tried everything I can logically think of to try and get the phone to work. I have checked the country setting (UK), phone settings (all looks fine, but I'm not 100% sure what the settings should be), unlocked my phone using xda2unlock, and tried different sims.
I'm using the BuzzDev 60b.96 release. Has anyone else had this problem?
Update: I've just remembered that my phone did work for a while after upgrading to WM2005. It might have been some program I installed that caused the problem. I've also noticed that when I downgraded to WM2003 and upgraded to WM2005 again, all my settings and programs I installed in WM2005 originally are still there. Does anyone know how to reset the memory completely so my programs and settings in WM2005 will be reset to a clean installation?
Update 2 - Problem Solved!: I've just performed a format by holding the Camera and Record button while doing a reset, and WM2005 just reinstalled. Now the phone works fine!
Try this ...
As for your preinstalled software which doesn't seem to get erased when updating your rom, simply downgrade your ppc to wm2003se and install the extended rom unlocker. Then unlock and unhide your extended rom. Then from file explorer go to your (storage) drive and delete everything inside the drive and then go to your extended rom drive and delete everything there. This should remove any installed software from your pre-wm2005 installation.
Now as for your radio problem, I would suggest you use either radio rom version 1.17 or 1.18 and see which one works. Now if you've tried upgrading your ppc using only buzz lightyears os rom WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE the radio rom, then you've only upgraded your os rom and have used your pre-existing radio rom that was properly running on wm2003se but seemed to fail on wm20051.6b. Now, in this case, I would suggest you either download radio versions 1.17 or 1.18 nb files and adding them to your os update setup directory along with buss lightyear's wm2005 1.6b You can find both radio versions on our FTP site
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Himalaya_SEs/Radio/
From there you can try both radio roms and see which one works best with u. Good Luck ;-) Tareq A.N
Does anyone know how to copy a file out of the device's ROM? I know this is possible with the ext rom. Is there some utility or trick to unlock the ROM to allow read access of these protected files?
Not that I know of, Im not posotive but even the latest ext_rom unlocker corrupted my ext_rom on the new faria 3.0.0.0 12mg pagepool rom, when some app tried to write to it...
I thought that was the problem that was fixed by the new rom unlocker, i thought i deleted the older one but may have switched them by mistake, im not 100% posotive, So I doubt this would be advisable, as you could easily corrupt it also(unless you like hard resets)
try reading up on rom cooking, it should show you how to break the rom down to its cabs, you'd just need a copy of the rom thats on your handheld.
<gotta change that sig>
bump
anyone have an answer?
Hey all you pro chefs! I cooked an HTC SNAP based ROM for the HTC Cavalier. All went well and everything seems to work great except Bluetooth. I have tried SOOOOO many things such as:
- Swap SYS\Bluetooth folders
- Swap SYS\Bth* folders
- Swap OEM\OEMDRIVERS bt* files and modules
- Swap SYS\OS\btdrt.dll module with working one
- Played with provxml files and RGU edits
Bluetooth STILL won't turn on!!!?? Does anyone have experience on what the BT stack EXACTLY needs to turn on? Maybe a DLL isn't registering correctly? I've hit a wall and have no clue what to try next.
Another weird symptom is when I swap the btdrt.dll file/module in SYS\OS from one that worked in a different build, Comm Manager doesn't start and says it's "Not a Valid Windows CE Application"
Any help will be appreciated!!
I didn't experience such a behavior on any of my HTC devices before... It is driving me nuts!
I flashed three Custom ROMs till now (Anjas back to the root 05.01., Artemis GER 13.01., HD2O 1.4) - same effect!
While installing some (not all!) programs I get an error (installation failed) and this error comes before you have to select the destination.
I'm not able to install
- MaxManila 2.7/2.8
- Artemis_TaskBar_Bat_Green_Icons
- BsB Tweaks 1.6 (whether cooked in or not)
- Digicast Solutions' Shopping Cart v 5.2
- Opera Mobile 10 beta
But I'm able to install
- HTC Network Plugin
- MorphGear 2.4
- TourchButton v 2.2
- White_FInixNOverBattery
Does anyone have a similar problem or does anyone know how to solve it? It is really really annoying
And: Of course I have made already several Hardresets...
Try an official ROM.
i just installed official HTC GER 1.48... same issue...
i don't know what else to do...
as you have the problem on all the roms it might be that the cabs of the programs you are trying to install are corrupted.
i've had that once and had to format the memory card.
empty memory card, format and replace all the programs that did not install with a new download or copy from your pc
that solved it for me then.
YOU ARE MY HERO!!!
As I read your post I realized that i've downloaded all those files with Opera Mobile. And all these files are corrupted...
I'm such a fool!
THANK YOU MATE!
I have the same problem. Cabs downloaded with Opera are corrupted, cabs downloaded with IE are fine. So there must be a problem with Opera Mobile.
