Ok so i was wrong, it doesn't shut off, it goes past the green windows mobile screen, then past the t-mobile shadow screen, then just sits there with a black screen, the power lights are on, but just stays black forever
One other note is a hard reset isn't possible it seems because the phone cannot be turned off
If the battery is removed it shuts off of course, but when its put back in it just starts up and apparently thats not good enough to do the hard reset because it just boots up like normal to the black screen
Try pressing the hard reset keys as you place the battery in. You might need someone else to put the battery in while you press the keys. If that seems tedious or doesn't work, try starting with bootloader buttons (Camera and power button at the same time). Then connect it to your computer and run T-Mobile's update.
Hopefully, that should work.

Hi friends..
I have a very strange problem which cropped up yesterday night, we guys had gone for a movie and my phone was in my pocket only, then coming back it started to rain and i still didn't take it out, but after i took it out in room i saw suddenly the screen going blank and so many white and blue lines started coming and it started flickering very badly! finally the display got mirror inverted! it still responds to touches at the right places but the display which i get is upside down and mirrored so can't read a thing!
i think some how a water droplet had gone inside and did something, i took out the battery and dried it under the fan too but still no change, now when i keep it on stand by and resume by short pressing power button for a second the proper screen comes and then it inverts again! please help me out if you've encountered such situation before..
i know we can turn the display upside down but this one is mirrored too, and it all happened after the screen flicker..
hav tried hard resetting ur mobile
Some Sony Ericsson mobiles had a similar problem, only way to repair it was display replacement.
How to Hard Reset?
hi friends, i read on another forums too that hardresetting is one way, so i turned the phone off
removed the battery for 5-10 seconds
replaced the battery
pressed the green and red buttons which are on the left and right of d pad
together i pressed the reset button which is to right of the usb socket,
and nothing happened! i kept pressing it for 10 seconds, and no screen popped up, when i removed the buttons it just restarted, without any screen showing that a hard reset has been desired and no change had happened..
Am i hard resetting it the right way?
ur mobile shouldnt be off while doing the above steps. After doing tat ur mobile will restart showing an warning press the action key and continue.

Device must be off. Hold red button, green button and reset. If it doesn't work, press Power. After a while white letters on black screen should appear, then press d-pad and wait about 5 minutes. You'll see a new message for a moment and Windows Mobile will start.
No change after hard reset
hi friends, i got a video on youtube demonstrating me how to do a hard reset, i did it and got the warning message too and it got reset, restoring the original settings. Still the screen remains it's own inverted self!
Any suggestions what can i do next? what can actually the problem be?
i'm taking it for service centre tomorrow. Wish me luck any ways
V this is what i figured out V
okay so i realized its caused by the screen being turned off for more than a few seconds, whether it be from locking the phone, or the screen timing out. it causes the phone to power off (im not sure if it powers off or not, but the screen never comes back on once this happens) i try to unlock the phone, or hold down the power button, press the screen and all the hard buttons, nothing responds, i have to remove the battery from the back and put it back in to turn it back on...
Take out the battery for a day and leave it out then put it back in. See if that helps.
Running nero 5. My daughter touched my phone and when I saw it it was shutting down and then didn't boot up but instead is on a screen with a yellow yield sign with android sweeping and it says "downloading... do not turn off target!!!"
She must have held the power button, but I have no idea what else she did. Can anyone help me? I have no idea what any of this means.
it looks like she was able to accomplish something that many here have a hard time
Your phone is currently in downloading mode. You can exit it by pressing and holding power until it shuts off. Then press power key once again to start it up. If that doesn't work then make sure USB is not connected and open the back cover take out the battery, wait 10 secs, put the battery back in, close the cover and press power key once to start it up. It should work.
Darn kids! Just follow what VICosPhi said and you should be just fine.
This phone just broke after 3 months of use. Since I brought it off of amazon as unlocked, I do not have warranty on phone. The phone was not dropped nor water-damaged. It was sitting on the table and suddenly experiencing problems with lag. I proceed to turn off and try to restart phone.
The phone does not boot when I press the power button.
What I've tried:
case 1: I removed SD card, removed battery and removed USB cord. Press power button for 10 seconds. Put back battery and press power button
result 1: LED light on. The phone vibrates 5 times. Remains in black screen
case 2: I called my phone number from another phone
result 2: Straight to voice mail. This indicates the software did not even boot up. Hardware display is not the issue here. Most likely a Software issue.
case 3: I hold volume down key and power key to attempt hard-reset
result 3: LED light on. The phone vibrates 5 times. Remains in black screen
Since I routinely backed up my phone data. Last time I've checked (~4 days ago), the SD card was not nearly full. It was approximately 25% used space.
PLEASE HELP!! YOUR HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!
Are you able to access any of the service menu's such as bootloader or fastboot mode?
If your not aware what those are, there are many references in this forum for you to find information.

No. The screen was all black. But fortunately, the phone was able to turn on after some trial and error.
You remove the battery and USB cord. Then while pressing (and holding) the home button key, you put back in the battery and press the power button. To hard reset, you must press volume down key, home key, and power key at the same time.
Glad that you got your phone working!
Mine continues to remain dead
I had this problem a few months back at first i too thought the phone was dead - but it did make boot vibration noise - but the screen would always remain "black" but after some time and after going into a very dark room i was able to see that the screen was not black, but that the backlight went out on it -- after having my screen replaced the phone now works fine - think i was using cm7 at the time.. hope this might help
Thanks for this tip! I'll check on the phone I had as well. I got to get it back from my buddy.
Hey!
I have an S5 Neo at work, and earlier on Friday morning it worked great, but then the screen started to go black, first it was only random and it would go back on again. But soon i had to try remove the battery and restart it, but nothing happend. After waiting some time the screen was back on again.
So when I got home I tried my best and got the screen working, did a backup and factory reset. I was super happy and tought that it had helped, because the screen come on right away. But as soon as I put the backcover on the screen started to flicker and then turned all black again.
I managed to get it working by pressing quite hard from the rear around the camera and the simcard holder. But only temporarily.
One other thing that does seem to work is to remove the battery, hold the power button pressed for some time and then start it back up, but as soon as i press in the upper corners the screen flickers, and if i press pretty much straight on the samsung logo it goes completly black and wont turn on, until I have had the phone turned off and pressed the power button for some time.
I understand that this must be something wrong with the display assembly(loose flex or solder joint in flex) or maybe even motherboard, is there anything I could try and do at home, or is my only option to send it away and get it fixed?
