Vogue vs. Elf - Touch CDMA General

I guess i may be mistaken, but
Are the "Vogue" and the "Elf" the same phone?
As far as i know Vogue = Sprint, Not sure what the nickname for the US Alltel version of the touch is not sure if the elf is just the gsm version of the phone and the vogue is the cdma version... If someone could please let me know, would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's the basic way of explaining it, Elf=GSM, Vogue=CDMA.
You'll notice they're both often called Touch, which led to some consumer confusion over capabilities (specifically wifi in the CDMA version).
The Elf(GSM) has WiFi and 64 MB RAM + 128 MB ROM.
The Vogue(CDMA) does not have WiFi, but it does have GPS which can be enabled using a cooked rom. It's memory is 128 MB RAM + 256 MB ROM.
I'm certain there are other notable differences, but these are the main ones.
Are you looking to purchase one or the other? If that's the case, I suggest waiting for the Touch Pro and the Touch Diamond to make their debuts first. They represent significant upgrades, and if you still wish to get an Elf or Vogue you'll probably get them cheaper.

I have the alltel touch. i am just trying to get some information together and would like to change up roms and what not. didn't want to just jump into throwing something on my phone and screwing everything up. the only modding i've done to the phone is some basic registry settings, ui customization. so i would like to do it correctly. idk i feel like a tard asking this stuff. but is there really advantage to jumping to wm6.1 or a different "radio version"?

There's some new features in 6.1, nothing that's really caught my eye but I know that there's a few fans of it out there.
The real benefit is enabling GPS and EVDO Rev. A.
Since you're on Alltel, you've got the advantage of going with the official rom straight from HTC. http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=64&act=sd For GPS there's some tweaks required (search the forum).
There's a lot of cooked roms out there, with various pros and cons. Keep in mind that they all share one common con, they're warranty-voiders.

Another difference is that the elf has a 201Mhz TI processor, where as the Vogue has a 400 Mhz Qualcomm processor

Couple more practical issues. The Elf and Vogue take the same battery (good). However the Elf and Vogue are NOT exactly the same size! (bad). The CDMA Vogue is slightly larger and therefore not all accessories designed for the Elf will fit the Vogue -- most will, BUT one notable exception is that the early cradles designed for the Elf will NOT fit the Vogue (without some modification). People have destroyed their Vogue USB ports trying to forcefit their Vogue into an Elf cradle.

I'm wondering what the battery life of the Vogue is if it's running a 400mhz processor and EVDO Rev A (3G) on the same size battery as the Elfin? Must be terrible?!? We have the Elfin and it barely lasts the day on Edge (2.5G GSM).

Let's pick a few scenarios:
1. Standby, bluetooth/internet/gps inactive, but ready to recieve a call.
- I haven't ever seen the phone reach a battery warning in this state. I've stored it for a week like this and returned to a %60 charge... and a few dozen missed calls.
2. Standby + 30-minute-interval GPS locks (also turns on screen for 1 minute), bluetooth at ready, and occasional automatic internet connections.
- These are the settings I now use since update. It shows about a %70 charge after a couple short calls and 2 days.
3. Heavy usage, full brightness on screen, continuous GPS use, etc...
- I can usually expect 5-6 hours of video, internet, texting, etc before warnings. 3-4 on full brightness.
- Constant GPS seems to drain the battery a bit faster, not sure by how much yet.
- Talk time, with bluetooth headset, at least outlasts my headset (~1 1/2 hrs)
- Talk time without bluetooth? I haven't hit the limit. I've had calls as long as 4 hours with no warnings. But honestly didn't buy this thing to talk.
I hope this gives you a vague idea. These are personal experiences based on my own settings, ymmv.

Should I buy HTC Universal or Wait for Hermes?

Any advice from Universal owners would be welcome. I need an unlocked tri or quad band phone and I am ready to buy now. I see that Hermes has 2.0 mp camera which I read is a big improvement. I am not that interested in keyboards and have heard that hermes predecessor (magician?) had problems...so I am concerned about having a slide out keyboard that I do not need which might cause problems in future. The hermes has upgraded blue tooth and usb if I am not mistaken as well as EDGE? Universal has SD while hermes has mini sd.
Any suggestions from Universal owners if I should get my Unlocked Universal now or if I should wait for Hermes???
thanks

If you're not interested in keyboards, the Universal really shouldn't be a choice because it has the biggest keyboard of all HTC devices.
You say that you're ready to buy now, you can start with the Universal. If you don't like it, you could always sell it and get a Hermes when they come out. That's what I would do.
I understand that Keyboard is not on your priority list. However do consider the VGA screen on the uniersal. It is really the best screen I have ever seen. As I do a lot of net browsing a smaller QVGA screen is somewhat a deterrent for me.
Regards
thanks
Thanks all for advice. I have stage fright in making my purchase decision!! I am ready to buy now, but am now concerned that the Universal is already outdated....BUT the hermes wont be available as unlocked for some time....(you can probably understand how my last pocket pc was a phillips nino!!....I keep waiting for the best, and by the time it is available...there is a new best right around the corner!)
From your experience, is the universal a good machine? Will I have huge problems out of the box? Will I need ROM upgrade for it to work?? I am not a super techy guy (don't understand much about modifying these machines and am frankly afraid that I might mess it up) and this machine will need to last me for at least 5 years....I am not one to purchase the latest model each year....
Will I really miss all of the new additions present in the Hermes model?? such as 2.0 mp camera (reviews have said the 1.3 mp cam sucks), and all of the newer email capabilities edge? utms? Or do you think for a regular user that I won't miss them??
Some things that I want for sure:
Blue tooth STEREO phone and mp3 headset combo (so I can keep this brick stored in my bag and make and receive calls without it clipped to my belt all the time....and listen to mp3s in stereo....is this possible?
Voice commands from bluetooth headset...possible?
If there was an unlocked model similar to hermes available now without keypad...I would consider....but only thing I have seen is eten g500 with integrated gps...looks cool but only 1.3 mp camera and no wifi....so I do not see anything else available on market that is better than universal
thanks for any advice/experience you can offer

Let's not get off subject here. Yes, HX4700 has a really neat screen. However, it is not a phone.
what about prophet?
I have been reading about prophet...as a possible alternative to universal......I am worried that 200 mhz processor might be too slow for skype...one review said it was really slow.....but then another review said it was as fast as universal... has anyone used universal with voip or skype ...does it work ok??
Thanks for any comments.... is there a huge benefit to having universal's umts and 3G (most of my time is in america).....or would the prophet's (or Hermes) EDGE be seen by current universal owners as a big plus..and a better choice today...?
thanks again for the advice

Scott, currently 3G and UTMS, none of that stuff is avaliable here in the US. So if you spend a majority of your time here, it probably won't do you any good. EDGE will, but like I said it will only make a real noticable difference if you tether with a laptop and use it as a modem.
The 200mhz processor in the Prophet and Wizard series is a nice processor. For day to day usage, you probably won't even know that it's 200mhz. For Skype (If you use that feature a lot), I would steer away from the OMAP processor. I know some people say this and say that, in reality, it's really not a fast processer when coming down to run memory hogging big programs. The one thing I REALLY REALLY liked about the OMAP processor is how long those phones lasted on one charge. I can really use my Wizard all freak'n day and it would laugh at me. My Universal...that's a different story.

Best HTC phone as of right now?

Hey guys! I am an avid reader of this forum and i was just wondering.....i'm looking to upgrade to another HTC phone. I currently have the wizard and i LOVE it! Just curious as to which HTC phone i should upgrade to, Are any of them as "open source" (for lack of a better term) as the wizard? As far as the community and the custom roms go? Any suggestions?
I was looking at the Tilt? is that a good choice?
Also, when i am buying one is there anything to watch out for like there is with the wizard? Like the G3 and G4 versions
TYTN 2 !!!!
Hmmm....i've kinda spent the last few hours just browsing through the forums on the newer phones, apparently there is some kind of video driver issue with the Kaiser....should i wait for maybe the touch cruise?
I will second XabdullahX's vote of the TYTN 2!!!

I also vote that the Kaiser/Tilt/Tytn II is the way to go (I bought the Tilt and am loving it). Its a little different with the key layout than the wizard. I'm getting more used to everything being around the D Pad, but at first I didn't care for this (I still have to be careful not to hang up on a call when trying to press the right soft key). The phone has a ton of memory and is fast.
What you've been reading about in the Kaiser forums on the video driver is that the phone is capable of so much more, but HTC isn't using the proper drivers. What it does do is still very good, and personally I'm very happy with it and feel it was money WELL spent... Supposedly a media player app (don't recall which offhand but its a commercial one) is coming out with a new version that has fixed drivers or something in it. A lot of people are waiting to get their hands on this to see if they can use that to improve some other things.
So if you are a heavy watcher of movies or high performance games, you may want to evaluate the Kaiser/Tilt/Tytn II a little more. But for the majority of the uses of a PPC, its a fantastic phone...
OK, not to brag, but I have my Tilt fully loaded right now with Dutty's 7b ROM and a lot of apps (almost everything I have loaded into the phone's memory and not to my storage card). I have 85MB of free storage memory and 55MB of RAM free. HUGE change compared to the Wizard where you are trying to eek out every bit of space by cramming everything on your SD card and not having but a couple of apps open at a time to conserve precious RAM...
Yep, the Kaiser it is, or if you dont need a keyboard the Polaris.
Surur
I like the kaiser a lot too, but from personal experience, they have some issues with these devices. Hardware and software related. In particular, the BT Stack seems to um, SUCK big time. A couple of my friends had them (Tilts) and they both had horrible BT performance. Either they couldn't connect to certain Headsets/Car Kits or they couldn't walk five feet away from the device while connected without a bunch of static. These are common problems.
I'm waiting to see if they announce some kind of fix for that. It may just be the Tilt versions - not really sure, but BT stack issues are major to me. I always use BT.
apart from the fm radio and no keyboard and screen the cruse is pretty much the same hardware as kaiser so unless that suffer from the same driver issue as kaiser
only the keyboard thing should be the factor of which one to get if you ask me

I must be lucky. I work in a home office upstairs in our house, and I can use my jawbone BT connected to my Tilt and walk downstairs to the kitchen and only get a small amount of scratching sound. When I was using my Wizard, by the time I got to the bottom of the stairs I knew I had forgoten my phone as the scratching and popping sounds were pretty bad.
Could be that this was because I was using the unofficial AKU AT&T ROM (I immediately upgraded to this when I got my Tilt as I at first understood it was an official AT&T upgrade). Now running Dutty's 7b which is based off the HTC rom and my BT sound is even better and more clear than the AT&T roms ever were, so it could be more the AT&T rom than the HTC rom with BT issues.
tilt
i just got my tilt(kaiser) and in my personal oppinon...it totally kicks ass...seriously. i was kinda wondering bc of how much it coses but let me assure it was well worth it
The Kaiser is a terrific device and I'm very happy with it. Ofcourse there are some issues (like the video drivers, and audio glitch) that do not make it perfect for all uses.
If you want to play a lot of games or video or so, don't go for the Kaiser right now - that situation might improve, I'd wait and see what happens.
Note that the Touch variants all have the same issue.
HTC TyTN II and HTC Touch Cruise (same as TyTN II but without keyboard) are the best phones out there.
Call me crazy but I like the wizard still. I have a Hermes 8525, Faraday 2125 and I tried out the Tilt for a day. Not much differant then the Hermes but has a ton of memory. For a smart phone, the Faraday is awesome.

agreed...i LOVE my kaiser....but at the end of the day im always like damn that wizard was one hell of a phone....seriously
i have a 8125 and a 8525 also tried tilt because my friend has one and he let me plaay with it for a day
if your looking for speed of course go to 400mhz but it does not mean that wizard is slow because of frequent change in roms it can match the speed more or less
only thing here is the memory of course tilt has the most; second is tytan and last but not the least is my 8125... what makes the wizard advantageous is that it has a double speaker unlike tytan the speaker is placed at the back it produces less sounds in a process
I dont know if 4gig or 8gig can support the wizard but it has happened to kasier and tytan
IMHO:
one last and important thing that I have noticed is in the wizard forum all of the good rom makers has not made roms nowadays??? that is the only sad part
in kaiser and tytan rom makers are very much active this makes the HUGE difference between the phone

yeah aside from mfrazzz... I miss the times when there are too many roms to choose from maybe it is because people here know now about cooking and still I am a noob for cooking and trust cookers t put there files here???
oh well I can only blame myself actually...
As my Nike is bust (see my sig) I will probably be looking to get another HTC phone in it's place. So I'm asking the same question.
From what I've read the Kaiser and TyTn 2 are the best, am I right in thinking that one of these two would be the best phones to have? Like the first post, I'd like a phone that's 'open source' so to speak (ie. popular, lots of mods for it) and WiFi and SD slot.
i can ask nothing more out of my vogue, till i get my hands on the touch HD
My vote is for the Tilt/Kaiser. I bought mine off craigslist for $200. Best $200 I'd spent in some time. I love my Wizard but the ROM's available for the Kaiser are just amazing and the device itself is fast, Stable, and just plain fun to work with.

Is the Blue Angel worth it?

Hi BA owners,
I have a chance to buy a BA in excellent condition for a rediculous price. I have checked the specs on it and with the large ram and 400mhz processor, it would seem to me to be an upgrade from my Wizard, which only has a 200mhz processor and 64mb of ram. I am counting on some input from you guys in this forum to steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
Do it
I will be honest with you. It has no comparison with the Wizard. My wife has one and it runs out of resources more often than not. Don't get me wrong though, it is a great pda phone. However, the BA packs a lot of power inside, and as you may have seen it is upgradeable .
I have had mine for almost 3 years now and has been through 2 heavy manufacturing plants. Other than the stylus getting lost 57,000 times, I do not have any complains about it.
Besides, with this kind of support (xda-devs), short of you bricking it, there are very few issues that you might encounter and not be able to fix. I hope my 2 cents will help you make the right decision.
All in all... Just Do It!!!!
it's also a generation or 2 older then wizards
I love my BA. My curiosity was perked when I saw an ad for the Touch so I checked it out at the local store. I was considering buying one, then I found this site, and the wonderful WM6 ROMs. By updating from WM2003 to WM6 I have decided that with the speed of the CPU and the amount of RAM on this that I would be happier with this than a new, smaller, slower unit. Sure it has some quirks, but mine has been through hell. It has been dropped from waist high several times and has loads of dents in the metal body (something the newer ones don't even have as plastic is lighter and more importantly cheaper). I have used a screen protector for the entire 3 years I have owned it so there is no damage there. I am even still happily using the original battery with no problems.
The following is absolutely not an all inclusive list.
Pros:
large screen
fast CPU
large RAM
durable
time tested and proven by thousands of owners
Cons:
device was never intended to be used this long (WM5/WM6)
bluetooth sucks hard (no range)
tiny ROM (32 MB)
cannot use "all" SD cards (SDHC)
new phones are smaller and lighter
I hope this helps.
P.S. I have seen a phone I would replace my BA with if it ever makes it to market. The Pi Phone from deeda.com looks so cool.

I agree with all these....
just one opinion with the random power on when BT is active, i dont have a problem with it anymore....
if anyone hasnt found out.... use S2U2 from A_C and from settings:
set this parameter:
LOCK WHEN DEVICE WAKES UP: ON
ON BATTERY POWER: POWER OFF in __ -> 5 S - this is the minimum allowed.
What this does is when BA wakes up randomly, S2U2 will run, and after 5 second it turns OFF - i.e. save your battery power and save the BA from accidental button pressing.
For me this is the greatest work around for BT issue and I have my BT ON 24/7
Hope this helps

But it is only workaround. Error still exists.
Point of interest with the BT power on issue. My experience is that if my BA is sitting on the desk powered off with BT on it stays off, but if I pick it up and walk around the "office" it wakes up. I believe it is waking up upon discovering another device. I have not proven this to my satisfaction as of yet, but so far all of my random tests seem to concur. Not that this provides any useable solution as of yet, it is just my observations being put into print.

Yes dude, thats what I have written up there... a wokaround, nevertheless, the greatest workaround I could come up with...
with this, the battery would last as long as if BT is off since when it turns on, it only last for 5 sec before it turns off again...
For me, this problem becomes non-existent now... thats all i am trying to pass on
Btw, Baniaczek, how come you dont release anymore BA roms? I would definitely give it a try if you ever release one again
OT!!
Hi baniaczek. Great to have you back!
I am now running a Kaiser, before that a Hermes, before that a Wizard. So I've used them all. I currently use my Kaiser for business, but at home I use my BA. The BA screen is bigger and it works very well. I'm running Helmi's WM6 and his using his Broadcom BT Stack. I'm also using Radio ROM 1.15.
The Wizard is a better phone. If I were you I'd buy a Hermes or Wizard. They are better phones.
The BA is great as a secondary or backup device. I keep it to browse the web at home using WiFi. The larger screen is very nice. I just got it set up to watch YouTube videos. It's great using WiFi but it only has GPRS for web browsing using your wireless carrier. The Wizard has Edge which is much better.
If I had limited funds and didn't want a contract, I'd buy a Hermes (TyTN) on ebay new for about $350.00. Even if you're on an Edge network (I.e, no UMTS or HSDPA), the Hermes runs better than the Wizard because of the Hermes 400 Mhz processor. I use Pandora's Naked ROM and added just the apps. I want. It works very fast. My wife is now using it.
Hope this helps.

Nice to read those words. I'm finishing two large projects (non PDA at all), and probably will be back.
Thanks
Thank you all for your replies. I think after reading these posts, I'll stick with the wizard for awhile longer. I would like the larger storage and faster processor, but from what I've read here and reading through many of the BA threads, I think the wizard, with its obvious limitations, is a more stable device, especially running wm6. Maybe I'm wrong, if so, tell me more.

What was the price you were getting the BA for and can I buy it?
Friend of mine has a wizard that crashes more often then my BA >.> gues its the way you handle the device.. once you tweaked it out the BA solid.
Only thing left on my wishlist currently is new battery(2400mah) and a gps unit.. and both are shipped and should arrive shortly
I have a uni and a ba. The uni has better keyboard, sharper screen and faster processor. But how the gurus were able to pack the wm6 rom into the 32mb rom and still leave me with 50mb of storage and 109mb of program memory is simply wondrous. The result is that I am able to handle a lot more on the ba than the uni and it is really very stable.
Changed my mind
OK, after much apprehension about this, mainly because I thought the phone might be hot, I went ahead and bought the Blue Angel, new, in the box, never been used. I won't tell what I paid for it, because you wouldn't believe it. Apparently this friend of a friend happened onto 3 new phones at an auction somewhere and now has sold all three. Now, since I'll have the phone in a couple of days, I need you guys to point me to the best wm6 rom for this phone, if you wouldn't mind. I'm anxious to see what it's like to have some processing power and enough memory to actually have more than 1 or 2 programs running at the same time, with (hopefully) no hangs. Thanks for your attention guys! BTW the specs on this one says it has 64mb flash rom, but on your posts, I've only seen 32mb. Is this true?
it's 32mb for the flash rom only, hence space for the the OS Rom.
that's what makes our BA lean and mean. the excess are discarded to be jampacked into that 32mb muscle.
it's bigger actually when you have booted it up to install some applications.
try and familiarize yourself to your new pal BA by the wiki
check out xplode's latest rom. there's a sticky thread in this forum. most recommended.

pure xscaler power - that's pda essence, not smartphonelike **** with touch moronism.
and stop killing pda's htc/iphone fans.

thinking of buying a Diamond 2 - some qus

1. whats the battery life like - does it last two days or the traditional HTC one (i am a light user - email, a bit of weather and one call a day)
2. Do the latest builds make good use of the screen ? (last time I use a 480x800 HTC winmo, the fonts were all scaled upwards)
3. Has the bad signal quality with the original release (donkeys years ago ) been resolved ?
this seems to be the best value and lightest 480x800 screen phone at the moment with a decent amount of memory

1. whats the battery life like - does it last two days or the traditional HTC one (i am a light user - email, a bit of weather and one call a day)
2. Do the latest builds make good use of the screen ? (last time I use a 480x800 HTC winmo, the fonts were all scaled upwards)
3. Has the bad signal quality with the original release (donkeys years ago ) been resolved ?
this seems to be the best value and lightest 480x800 screen phone at the moment with a decent amount of memory
many thanks all

1. Battery life is pretty standard, 1 Day with moderate use.
2. The latest builds and manila theming are optimal for screen size.
3. Signal quality has been in line with other devices, you can still flash different radios if you're CID unlocked.
The phone has been great, issues I've seen are from people putting it in their pockets and developing "Newton Rings" as they colapse the layers of their screen between the LCD and Digitizer. I have not has this issue as I bought a snap on case.
BUT.... there is the HD2 coming out with a 1gb processor, also LG has released the Expo which is that Phone and projector, also 1gb processor.
Hope this helps.

very useful thanks
I was also thinking about the 1gb cpus, but they are all quite pricey.
The 528mhz cpus phones are very good value at the moment, I can get a new diamond 2 for only £229.
I will wait until next year and probably then also go for a nexus one or a hd2
one more thing, you can run Android in this device, eventhough it still need to be fast, but I believe, maybe not long you can use dual OS, WIndows Mobile and Android at the same time.., cool device...
wow im getting the compact V of tmobile can i put android on that if i want ?
I get 2d battery life by using a 'clean' 6.5.3 ROM.. the new MS apps for mail & sms etc are v good now so you don't actually need all the Manila sense stuff (which is v heavy on the battery) to make the phone useable. What you probably do need is a nice shell because you may find the standard titanium UI a bit spartan.. there are plenty of these & more on the way. Great phone though. - the form factor is fantastic.
not to trash any of the pluses the TD2 has...
but since this now happened to me, i did an experiment:
browse to xda home page (where u can scroll down and see all the phones)
select any phone that came out in 2009 and newer.
now, use "search this forum" (to search the specific phone forum)
type "newton rings"
compare results.
(diamond and diamond 2 get at least 12 hits, whilst capacitive screen (HD2, Nexus One) get NONE.)
i wish i had never got this phone.
My TD2 also developed newton rings, within 2 months after purchase date, using HTC's original flip case and being extremely careful with it, carrying it only in my jacket internal pocket (zero pressure on the phone). So it is definetely NOT only a case of careless users, putting their phone in their pockets (which by the way is absolutely natural for a phone, especially a 400 euros one, but since the manual states otherwise, i complied with HTC terms of use) Now back to the store hoping that HTC will aknowledge their faulty hardware, fix it on warranty and have it sold as soon as possible. Hence my advice to you would be, dont buy this phone. If you think that the MSM72xx (528 MHz) processor is adequate (which i also doubt, but that's a personal opinion) why dont u try the HTC Hero (android 2.1, capasitive multitouch display) instead? HD2 also, even though expensive, is surely a great phone. Even in this case, read as much comments about the product before buying it as possible. I know i didnt with my TD2.. There are plenty of users here that would gladly help and advice thru their experience. Hope this helps, good luck with ur choice..
Peace

HTC Hero Dual Sim Clone

After quite a bit of research I finally found a dual sim windows mobile phone.
A couple of days ago I received the Hero that I ordered from China.
I wasn't holding my hopes up about the quality but I must say I was pleasentely surprised. The phone has WM 6.5 and it looks exactly like the Hero. The quality seems pretty good and the dual sim is working fine.
If anybody has any questions I will be glad to answer.
Any pics of the phone?
Pictures
Here you go:
Looks nice. I have been considdering a WM china dual sim but worried due to much bad experience with shody construction and false specifications. How is the memory? Camera resolution? OH... how is battery life with 2 SIMs active? THANKS!
Photos
Here are some pictures taken with the HTC Hero clone camera.
I guess they are not even close to the 8 megapixel stated !!

I was worried too but I must say this one looks pretty good, I have been using it for a couple of days now and I have no complaints. I would like to add a different UI, but when I installed SPB Mobile shell it appeared to get confused about the two sims. The phone is pretty fast, Memory: storage tot. 145 in use 56, free 89 Program: tot. 208, in use 82, free 126.
The battery seems to be good, it is hard to say now because I am still doing quite a bit of fiddling with the phone, but I think under a normal use should last a couples of days at least. I did get two batteries with it.
Thanks for the info. Looks not so bad, but just as a average 2MB camera.
What is the screen size 240x400 or 480x800?
Does it have a capacitive screen?
What is the memory size? 192MB RAM, 256MB ROM?
What is the normal battery time (recharge every 2 days?)
Do you have SOD's?
Does it support 3G?
Just currious:
Why did you not buy an Android version (with equal hardware?)
I'm using now for 5 months a HTC Diamond2 clone 5388++. The quality is average, the camera is bad, the memory is very good, 256MB RAM, 256MB ROM, WM6.5 (easy reflashible), screen 480x800 (resistance screen), no 3G, the GPS has a bad reception but also a very low power usage (+/-5 hours GPS usage is possible on battery), very good battery (Recharge every 4 days: two SIM's on, normal phone usage and some WIFI / IE, some BT) (info can be found under the HTC Diamond2, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619643
Have fun with your phone. Thanks in advance for the answers.
ps. The best clone HTC available now HD2 Capacitive screen but too big for me

Answers to your questions:
Screen 480 x 800 not sure if capacitive.
RAM 288 ROM 512
Haven't tried normal use yet but I think probably more than 2 days.
Sorry I do not know what SOD is.
Yes
I know about the HD2, it comes with dual sim too but I found it after I had already bought the Hero
SOD = Screen Of Death - I think this is when it fails to wake.
Easy test for capacitive or resistive would be to see if a non conductive stylus works - so a bit of plastic, or if you have to use your nail to press apposed to a heavier finger stroke.
How does the build quality feel? Have you accidentally dropped in or anything? I'm interested to see how these thinsg hold up as my daughter puts my (real) hero through a lot of stress with drops, eating and launching across the room!

Gladly No SOD
The only problem I had was when I installed SPB Mobile Shell, it worked fine for everything except sms messages. At first it would mark messages received on 1 sim to the other and then it stopped sending and receiving with the message that it could not find the phone. I guess it is designed for single sim phones.
I wish I could find a different UI that works with the dual sim, anyway Titanium is not so bad...
I guess the screen must be capacitive since I can operate it with anything, I tried my nails, my fingers, plastic, rubber, paper, it works with all.
I must say the quality feels really good, it has a good weight and looks solid...
but I haven't launched it across the room....
Nice phone!
Thanks for the info. The spec look good. Did you already try 3G? I'm really impressed that it supports 3G. This is the first clone DUAL SIM that I have heared about that supports 3G. Can you verify this?
Strange you can touch it with anything. A capacitive screen can only be operated with something that conducts a small current. Paper and nails do not conduct current. Can you open Internet Explorer and zoom or out with two fingers at the same time, so move two fingers from the outside to the middle for example? Does it zoon in to the middle of the two fingers?
Did you try Manila2D for QVGA devices. It's working except the Communication manager and looks nice. It's available on this forum.
I think your device has not so much memory. The info at Hardware info is many time not true. I think your device has 192MB RAM and 256MB ROM if I look to the available RAM and ROM in a few posts back.
On the box it says HSPA, how would I check if it is 3G?
The zooming with two fingers does not work in explorer, it has a slider on the side.
Is there a Manila 2d for wvga too? This phone is wvga.
I guess you must be right about the memory, in the first post I read it in the Memory application and the other in the Device info.

Thats sounds more like resistive. I know my wording wasn't too clear!
Its good about the build quality - I have always been skeptical about this when looking at the knock of phones.
The main thing that holds me back is lack of roms? Is this the case with your Hero Dual sim?
Roms
I am not sure about the Roms, I have changed rom on other phones only a couple of times.
Here is what the phone states:
ROM Version 01.001.08 ENG
ROM date 6/24/2010
Radio Version 6-9-2010 16:4:43
Protocol Version BASE W09.20 P4
Hope this helps.
I guess in orther to change rom it will have to be one designed for the dual sim?
Battery and GPS Update
I have now tried out the gps with TomTom. It seems to be working fine, without a-gps the fix takes about 3-4 minutes, with a-gps approx 20 sec. but it uses a data connection. I don't know if normal but, even if I am standing still, the speed jumps continuosly from 0 to 3 or 4 Km/h
As far as the battery I have charged it 24 h ago and it now shows 87%
after 48 hrs it shows 77% ( I guess it was the week end and did not use the phone much )
after 72 hrs it shows 53%
I will post updates.
Battery test completed
After 24 h it shows 87%
after 48 hrs it shows 77% ( I guess it was the week end and did not use the phone much )
after 72 hrs it shows 53%
after 96 hrs it shows 30%
It could probably last another 1/2 day but I need to charge it.
