Suspend/Wakeup issues. - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

After receiving my o2 XDA Exec in the mail a few days ago I've had to soft-reset to get my device to unsuspend several times, what's odd is the lights are still blinking on the unit, but the keyboard backlight/screen will not turn back on.
A few times watching media it's gotten stuck to a green/white/once blue screen, too.
The battery is of course charged, it seems to be just these two issues.
I'm looking forward to worry-free enjoyment of my Uni once I get these issues solved, any advice is much appreciated.
I'm thinking this may be a WM6 issue, or a ROM issue, Hopefully someone has had this same problem.
(I have and am still searching the forum to check this out.)

Maybe consider a hard reset?
Mine's running WM5 and doesn't have this problem - it will sometimes decide to change it's backlight settings to zero when switching from battery to power or vice versa though.

Ironically enough, I woke up this morning, turned the phone on and it had hard reset itself, I'm going to assume its a software issue for now, if I can't find a way to fix it, I'll just have to buy another unit and get rid of this one.
Love the phone, not this particular unit though.

similar problem here?
a week ago I installed PsiDocs .cab for SDHC and i am running a 16gb card and have noticed that sometimes I have to soft reset to wake it up, also test driving pocketweather on the card so i think that this might be my problem.

Dear All,
I have had my SPV now for about 4 weeks now and very pleased with it. However, twice in the last week it hasn't responded when I turned it
on and ended up removing and re-inserting the battery. When it comes back, it starts with the "Welcome to Pocket PC" setup wizard and all my data is gone.
Has anyone else had this problem. This problem has happened with both
versions of the ROM. The only s/w I am running is
Tube (VisualIT)
MS Arcade Pack (Pacman, DigDug etc)
MS Voice Command
Agenda Fusion
CityTime
Regards & Thanks
Chris
Yeah i got the same problem. But it happens when I upgraded my ExtRom from Orange.com. Sometimes it stays at suspend mode, then i have to perform a hard reset to wake up the device. Very odd.

I have had my M1000 for about four weeks too now and although it occasionally soft resets it never fails to respond to the power button. Maybe you have a faulty phone?
On a different note, you say you have Voice Command, I was looking for places that sell it in the UK but it appears to only be available in the US, if you could let me know where you got it I would be really grateful.
Hope you sort your phone out!

Im overlocking my CPU to 530 MHZ and no Trubbles so far.
Got the thing for two months now, running in this config for about one month.

Yep, I am having the same problem or much the same problem. The unite works fine until every four or five days when I notice that the bluetooth light and the green phone radio light are flashing (even though bluetooth is turned off). It does not respond to the power button and then lights go off when I try a soft reset. The only way I can get it back on it with a hard reset.
It does not seem to be a battery issue as the battery is fully charged and when I try plugging in the Charger (before doing the hard reset) the charging light does not light up. I have had the same problem with several M1000s from Orange.
Anyone have any ideas at to what might be going on?
Thanks,
Steve

With Orange Switzerland SPV M1000 I experience the following problems:
1) Bluetooth lights (blue light) and the battery lights flashes even though
bluetooth is not connected and the battery level is fine.
2) Once every other day the device (though fully charged) freezes and I end up doing soft reset.
3) Removing battery already puts the device to soft reset. Orange
4) The activeSync is running without me having to start any activeSync session.
5) Abruptly I get message the memory is full and the device then freeses.
Is anyone having the above problems? How do i resove this?
Many thanks

SAME PROBLEM AS THE REST OF YOU WHO HAVE THEIR SPV FREEZED UP VERY OFTEN. IN MY CASE IT'S EVERY 3 OR 4 DAYS, POWER BUTTON AND SOFT REST DOES NOT RESPONDE, SO IT'S EITHER HARD RESET OR SOMETIMES SIMPLY REMOVING THE BATTERY DOES THE WORK. I HAD MY PHONE REPLACED 3 TIMES ALREADY AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM EVEN WITHOUT INSTALLING ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE BUT WHAT CAME BUNDLE WITH THE ORANGE PHONE. IS THIS A ROM BUG ???
SPV M1000 FRANCE
SD CARD 1 GB
OMEGA ONE BATTERY PACK PRO
OMEGA ONE JOURNAL BAR
SPB GPRS MONITORS.
FORTUNATELY I USE THE X BACKUP PROVIDED WITH THE PHONE TO SAVE MY DATA, BUT IT'S TIME COMSUMMING AND REPETITIVE AS AFTER EACH TIME THE PHONE RESETS ITSELF, I HAVE TO RESTORE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
IF SOMEBODY COULD IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, THIS WOULD HELP A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE ME
THANKS

There have been frequent reports of this problem- Orange are aware of it, and are replacing M1000's as required. They are currently testing a new ROM, so it appears that they think it may be a ROM problem, though it could also be a batch of faulty hardware.
Another possibility
Turning off the record button seems to have helped, could it be that this is being caught and filling memory / draining batrtery?

Great when working - anyone using a GPS receiver? Tried a TomTom with an XDA 2 lead is not recognised

we got almost 30 of these at our work, it seems the only one to have this problem is... my one! so i swapped it for another one and it did the same problem... hmm, they must not like power users, the other users are idiots so they dont really mess about with the settings n all
anyhooz, ill be upgrading all of em to SE very soon and i doubt that rom will have the same glitch...
who knows... now that we can confirm (99%) that SE works on the xda II maybe the operators will now make an official upgrade to SE... they have no reason not to

Hmm. That is interesting. Only having one here - and having problems - I do not have much to compare.
Do you think the problem comes from changing the standard settings or using extra software then?
By the way the new ROM does not seem to make much difference in terms of this problem, alas!
Exactly the same thing to me...
Every 5 or 6 days... it goes of for no reason, and the only way to wake it up is to hard reset it! weird SPV... maybe some day a nice guy will come up with a solution to our problem! Hopefully...

Those experiencing issues with this device going into coma (requiring Hard Reset to clear)please would you post detailed accounts of when the issue occurs.
Please confirm power settings, what applications were open on the device and whether the radio or BT was on.
Does the problem occur off or on charge, if on does same problem occur if charged from travel charger not dock?
If off charge, if known - state both internal and external battery charge levels when problem occurs?
What is seen on the handset at point of coma?
Working from soft Reset through battery off to hard reset, what was necessary to restore the device and did soft reset or battery off result in a dump?
Could ROM V's and bootloader V's also be stated.
cheers guy's, together we'll crack it
To keep an old Thread Alive
 I have had my phone from about June last year. The first reset occurred about the 3rd Jan this and two more occurring in the past few weeks the last one on sat 12th Feb
The history as I can recall with the last reset is as follows. I took the phone out from work (cradle) Friday afternoon after 4pm don’t think it was put to charge again before the incident also the phone was not used very often as its a work phone. It was on stand by all day Saturday with the green light flashing but no signal input was being received as I was expecting a cal which never came only to find out the phone was off as mentioned by the caller when I called them. Got home about 530pm with the light still flashing and tried to switch the phone on after finding out no signal was received, the light then went out. Could remember this quite distinctly as it happed on the previous occasion. To activate the phone i have to take the battery and sim card out as with the previous occasion put the card in another/different phone to activate it (make a cal) then put the card and battery back in for the phone to work when it would then go through the reset process. Once working on checking, both battery powers were very low think less than 50% as when i checked some time after they were up to 75%
Am in an office with 3 other users and the only one with this problem and am on my 3rd phone since the year started. It seems to be linked with low battery power (both) and extended stand by when it completely shuts down. Trust this would help to get us a stage further.
i have had two m1000's with this problem,
orangecare stepped up for the replacement and i upgraded the 2nd to win2003se and it still does it!
i make scheduled backups now and have learnt to live with it until my contract expires..
on another seperate note..

MORE ON THIS
I had an M1000 that worked fine but a small problem occured and orange replaced it - the new one had this problem every 7 days or so - the bluetooth light was flashing although not switched on and when I try to turn phone on it wont - remove/replace bat and resets - I upgraded to ROM 2.02 from this forum but was using origional orange extended rom and it made no difference - if it is a rom problem its in oranges extended rom
I was on a 166wwe - boot loader 1.06 - dont know radio version but was still happening after DCM 2.02 WM2003SE WWE from this forum with radio 1.18.00 and original ORANGE ext rom so if is on ROM is definatley oranges ext rom that has a problem. - HAS ANYONE HAD THIS HAPPEN WHILE ON CHARGE????
THEY REPLACED MY PHONE WITH A REFURB - ITS NOW FINE BUT IM NOT HAPPY
guys lets think here
were all orange subs so its got to be an orange thing (so unlikley to be hardware) - there are people here (myself included) who have upgraded radio and OS so I am begining to think it is in the extended rom on these machines - has anyone who has replaced extended rom had this trouble - I would experiment but no longer have this fault - I never thought Id wish I could get it back but now I think I can see a resolve
we need an orange customer who does not have this trouble to post extended rom on here for us all to try????? - - - Please ??????
it would be nice to crack this one guys keep plugging on
Had my M100 nearly a year now and after many many resets decided to call Orange as I would have thought this was a known problem with them. But according to technical they have never seen this before!!!
There response was ... backup your data! doh!
I told them I did and it was unacceptable to say this as the thing is faulty it takes over an hour to reload the data and it's happend 4 times since I called them 4 days ago.
PS: has anyone got a copy of the original 1.66 rom as you can no longer get it from Orange.

XDA II Coma like state

Right guys and girls, this "coma" stuff is driving me MAD!!!!!!!!!
okie the latest example is last night i put the XDA on charge not in the cradle as usual as i was not at home, but that seems to make no difference, anyhow i turn the screen off by pushing the power button (top left) yellow light turns on and begins to charge, next morning i pick up the device to use it and nothing.....not a sausage, dead as a doe-doe.
Im not able to power it on, im not able to "wake it up" with a call to it, buttons do not work at all, screen is dead, the yellow light stays on even when charger not connected, however it turns of several hours later.
Ok at this point in the past the only way to fix this was to hard-reset it, which is a royal pain in the arse as you all know, and lost all my info i worked on, on that last trip.
Except this time, it really is dead, Hard-reset dont work, removing the main battery and letter the internal one take the hit dont work, verious combos of reset, hard-reset, with and without battery. nothing
nope, this time it seems totally screwed, anyone have any ideas
O2 is going to get an angery phone call, as soon as there tech support peeps goes back to work after the weekend, they said originally it was just a glitch and i was to update my software (rom). Some damn glitch!

How you can help

well maybe your phone is just broken
being angry at o2 will not help anything they dont make the hardware they dont make the software they just sell the device
Hum, intresting, before i start, O2 is to blame, in the world of retail and more importantly sales contracts, they are my first and direct point of call, in law, when i give them cash and they except it, they are entering in a contract which sticks them in the position to be blamed, however it is not about blame, its about getting somthing done about it, and they are the people who pull the stings, i do understand that they do not make these devices but thats not the point.
16 year old kids may be a bit put out when there phone stops working, however those who need there phone / PDA to work have more issues when things go wrong.
Whats more intresting is that 1 hour ago, the phone unexpectedly turned on by its self, although not surprisingly, all the data was lost. It seems to of woke its self up when the last remaints of power in the internal battery was about to die, to tell me this information.
Whilest i cant conferm this, if the others who have had this problem before
were to leave the phone off the charger for the battery to die, without trying the usual hard reset, i would expect it to wake up to tell you its about to die and then at this point plug the charger back in and hay presto!
well i'm not saying that you cant sue or demand your money back or place the blame on o2 i'm just saying that you cant expect then to solve your problem apart from reporting the issue to thc who again can blame it on microsoft
dazza8082,
What ROM version do you have on your machine?
I had the same problem with my MDA2 which came with ROM version 1.60 or something like that, but I managed to upgrade my MDA2 to 1.72WWE that I found somewhere in this forums and the problem was solved ever since. I even had lots of sudden SD memory wipes, so far so good... It's been like 4 or 5 months since the upgrade and counting...
The upgrade procedure was performed via the cradle and not via the SD card. But if for some reason you can't manage to boot your device you can always try the SD upgrade method.
I really don't remember the procedure but you can find lots of information somewhere in this forums.
Have you tried to get into Boot mode and then reset the device just to see what happens?
Press the Power button, the reset button and the joypad down at the same time and you should see a DOS-like screen indicating you are in boot mode, from there just press the reset button by itself and see if that helps. You will loose all your data with this procedure, but at this point chances are that you already lost everything in the device anyways.
Best of luck!

XDA Exec won't wake up

I have a qtek 9000 and an xda exec. Both have the same rom updates (latest o2). The qtek works as it should, but the o2 does not. I have re-flashed the rom twice. No software is installed, nor is bluetooth running. The phone works and connects to 3g etc. If I close the clamshell, about 1 hour later the phone is asleep and will not wake up. A reset must be done in order to turn it on. I have hard reset many times and cannot fix this problem No calls or messages have been received by the phone. The green phone light remains flashing in its deep sleep mode, but it is not possible to call the phone. It does not ring or wake up. Has anyone had this problem? I have searched this forum and read many posts concerning sms causing sleep problems etc., but can find nothing relating specifically to my problem. Thanks for any help.
sounds like it could be faulty.
never woken it up via a phone call, so I don't know about that, as I don't use it as a phone yet, waiting until the contract for the W800i ends at the end of this month before I start informing people of my new number. But I wake mine up via the power button. If that fails for you, then I would suggest speaking to the company you got it from, as it would suggest a fault.

Kaze, this problem is usually caused by having anything running on the Today screen or resident in memory that is installed on the Today screen. For instance, a application loader on the today screen with links to programs on the SD card can cause this type of freeze, as it tries to get the icons from the SD card but cant - crashing(?) WM5. Just keep anything related to the today screen or bootup etc on the phone's memory itself and your crashes should go away.
dont think so

That other thread you are posting in is back from October/November last year. Just taking out the SD card wont help, you need to disable the programs trying to access the SD card. Although your problem might be different - maybe somethings faulty with your SIM card then? Try a different SIM card and see if it still happens.
As I said in my initial post, there was nothing installed on the unit. There was no sd card, and it was in total factory default condition. The unit was returned as it was faulty. The new unit works as it should, with the same sim card etc.

I've had a new Qtek 9000 for about 3 weeks and it has had exactly this problem from day 1.
Looking at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32688 I thought it might be a SIM problem but it isn't. Done a load of tests and the final one - hard reset - no SIM - no SD card and the problem still occurs. It's on it's way back for repair / replacement.
Same problem here? Does anyone have the solution yet?
I'm sorry no - mine had to be sent back for reapir.
It's fine now.
First one I got had this problem from day one fresh from the box with nothing installed. I simply took it back to the shop and had them replace it as faulty. Second one has never shown this behaviour.
Dodgy batch/ component.
My advice is don't wait for a fix, it's a hardware fault, return it under warranty.

Phone turns off sometimes when closing keyboard.

Like the title says. It doesn't happen all the time but happens alot. When I slide my keyboard in the phine turns off 60% of the time. Also I noticed when I bumped the phone on my knee at the bottom (Don't asked how I managed to do that ) it just turn off instantly.
Anybody else with this problem? If you don't have this problem let me know 2 please. Maybe its just my device! Thnx.
No my phone does this too; but not as much as yours. It also seemed to happen more when opening the keyboard. I noticed however if I don't open the keyboard quickly then it doesn't seem to do it as much. What I mean is if you push the keyboard open and it pops hard then the phone will shut down.
I think it has something to do with the battery. I have tried putting paper in the battery compartment in hopes that it will apply more pressure to the battery keeping it from sliding. This seemed to help a little but not very much. Best solution I found was to not open it so forcefully. I havn't had it turn off in a couple of months.
A friend of me has the same phone. I tried it with his phone and he doesn't have the problem. He never had it he said. So I called the HTC repair service to send it to them under garuanty and it sounded like they knew the problem. It shouldn't do that. and like you said, I tought it was the battery too but when i remove the battery case and try to move the battery the phone stays on, so I don't think thats the problem but something inside the phone. Maybe some bad contacts. Anyway, they come and pick it up thusday. Maybe I'll get a new one or they fix this one.
I have the same problem
Ocassionally I suppose as I haven't observed carefully, when I close the keyboard the phones powers off. Not sure what the problem is, haven't really read any thread on this kind of an issue. Does anybody have a solution without sending it back to the support center.
I have the same problem...it seems that there is somewhere a bad contact, I do not believe its a "loose" battery. Anyway, I will tell the repair shop as now also my touch screen does not respond anymore...
I had an Qtek 9000 for almost 2 years, never had any problems with it!
NOT very impressed with this thing...
Ciao
Eeehm, I called the repair center and they were about to come and pick it up. so i did a hard reset to delete all my stuff.... and now it doesnt power off anymore. Wich is really strange cause it looked like a hardware problem cause when i bumped the phone it also turned off.
Jewcookie - My phone also resets when I close it too forcefully or give it a good bump. After your hard reset did you re-install your prior software? If so, did the problem persist or did it disappear?

I've been having a similar problem with my HTC branded Herald. (winmob 6)
The phone seems to behave normally until I open and close the keyboard.
A few minutes later, when I push the power button to exit sleep mode, nothing happens. I have to soft reset in order to get the phone operating again. During the time it is locked up, the phone doesn't ring and no calls show up as notifications. The fellow I spoke with today at HTC support said he hadn't heard of this happening before. He recommended a hard reset. Hoping to try a few other things first. Has anyone else with this problem had any luck resolving it?
Thanks C.T.
Still trapped in Sleep Mode!
Just a follow up to my previous post, it now seems that the phone locks in sleep mode after I have accessed files on the memory card. Two days ago I moved all Today plugin programs to device memory (except Pocket Weather, too large!) in order to see if that was the problem. Phone worked fine for two days, no lock-ups. Yesterday the only thing I did differently was access an Excel document from the micro SD card. I then put the pnone in sleep mode. About 10 minutes later when I needed to make a call, it wouldn't come out of sleep mode without a soft reset. Also I had scanned and re-formatted the memorycard, no apparent problems.
Anybody else dealing with a similar problem?
2 Jewcookie - met welk reperatiecentrum heb jij contact opgenomen dat ze hem komen ophalen? want mij zeiden ze dat ik hem moest opsturen, maar dat kost me teveel tijd.
grzz Clint
i had the same problem one time with it turning off when i closed the keyboard. it happened when i was playing with the battery. I just took the battery out and re-seated it securely and it fixed it.
Do you have a factory battery or an aftermarket one? if it is an aftermarket one then it might not fit as perfect as the regular one. I got spare thats a little bigger than stock. Might help in your case.
I have a stock battery. Not looking forward to doing it, though it looks like I will do a hard reset and then use my Herald completely stock for a few days and see if the "stuck in sleep mode" problem goes away. Then I'll load my third party software one by one and see if I can isolate the app. that is causing the problem. I'll post the result. May take a few days.

Choptank- did you find out if it was software or hardware issue?? Mine just started happening and mine is stock!!!
As it turns out, the cause of my lock up problem turned out to be unrelated to opening and closing the keyboard. The actual problem was a Today screen plugin. When I disabled the plugin, the problem went away. It took me quite a while to discover this as the program (Pocket Weather) is one of my favorites and I really didn't want to disable the plugin. I'm hoping that maybe a future version of the program will work better on my device.

Guys, I too was having this problem. But, in my case it came out to be a software problem. To summarize, these were the apps that can probably do that..
1) sbsh pocketbreeze
2) sbsh ilauncher
3) spb diary
4) spb p+(frequency was too low though)
It seems as if these apps demand more juice sometimes which causes device to reboot. I have been a huge supporter of the sbsh products but I'm not using them anymore. Currently I dont use any of the aforementioned apps and have not encountered a single unwanted reboot so far.
Troubles....

kdskamal,
WM6.1 now is this a personal (cooked) upgrade?? im leery of WM6 because of its numerous problems when it first came out.
Seems to be the Battery
I have seven batteries for my alltel ppc6800 (titan, mogul, etc.). My phone completely loses powers when I use the orig. battery that came with the device and one other battery I bought on ebay sometimes when I slide out or slide in the keyboard letting the spring loaded feature do its job. It seems not to happen when I guide it open and close with my hand. One trick that did seem to work was taking an eraser and cleaning the leads on the battery and the phone, however it may work well for another couple of weeks but has the same problem sooner or later. Still, I never charge my phone and I am an insomniac and am always up using my phone so I need the batteries.

[Q] Touchscreen locked out permanently

OK, posted a few days ago about this foolishly thinking it was solved. However, here's the problem. My touchscreen is completely unresponsive. This isn't the lag problem, which I've had before, but the phone acts as if it hasn't been touched at all. In other words, the only input accepted comes from the buttons.
This happens when I'm running android. Waiting overnight doesn't help. Pulling the battery doesn't help. I cannot even use the touchscreen in WM when this happens! Moreoever, if I do a hard reset, I still cant use the touchscreen when the setup pages show in WM. The touchscreen is completely gone.
The ONLY thing that has worked (once) to restore function is to pull the battery overnight.
The only pattern to this seems to be that it happens when I have a message waiting while running android (no, not every time). The screen will be locked, and I can't get the lockscreen to clear. Eventually I pull the battery and reboot in windows, same problem. Hard reset, same problem. Last night, had the problem so I landlined in and cleared the voicemails. Then did a hard reset, but the phone during the setup still indicated I had a message (!) and the touchscreen was locked. It is as if the notification was 1) stored in a different memory than the phone (does the radio keep this information) and 2) that until the phone is reconnected properly it can't clear the notification and won't let me access the touchscreen. Perhaps the overnight battery pull allowed the notification to clear from the phone somehow?
I'm looking for any help on this. Is there an aggressive way to clear notifications? Would a task 29 solve this? Button combo I"m unaware of?
Thanks in advance
yoiur unit may need to be send in for repair. sounds more like a hardware fault. You may be able to get a digitizer from ebay and replace it, though they are a bit tricky to replace. Ive only ever done it on an mda varia and that was a paid
This is actually not uncommon... i have a friend who purchased an HD2 and used it for a week or 2 and the touchscreen stopped. You can try and do the task 29 however it didn't help hers... has your phone ever come in contact with static electricity? This seems to be the #1 killer of the touch screen functions with the HD2's... (so far i've seen 4 of them die like this)... i would try task 29... then if that doesn't work call HTC and ask if you can send it in for a repair, most of the time if its repairable, they'll fix it and charge you a fee of usually $100.00... if its not repairable due to faulty hardware, they will send you a new one (usually re manufactured) another option is, if you have tmous take it back to a store and show them... they should be able to swap it out for free if you have insurance on it
I was concerned about hardware, and it may still be the issue, but it seems intermittent, in that sometimes I can get the phone working again for a couple of days. However, this symptom has only come in the last week or so, so it does seem as if something has changed. I'm constantly tweaking my Android setup, but I can't imagine this could have an effect that would go over to WM, especially after a HARD reset...
Possible solution
OK, if you've read the thread above, you know that hard resets didn't seem to solve the problem. However, I just did a hard reset without a sim card installed, hoping to clear whatever notification was stored on the phone. While the touchscreen was still locked without a sim, I re-inserted the sim and did another hard reset and it worked! Time will tell if this is a real solution. Luckily, my android system is just on the sd card and easily booted up or I would spend all my time rebuilding my phone!
Again, does anyone know if this might be related to the radio rom? I've tried a couple radios since this started 2.14 and 2.15.
OK, one more update. I notice now that when I long-press the hangup key, to get the context menu for such items as shut down or turn radio off, the touchscreen becomes inactive. Several minutes later it seems to come back, but my conclusion is that the connection to the touchscreen must be near or under that button and I'm affecting an intermittent connection.
This is the last post I have on the issue because I got a refurbished phone sporting ROM 3.14 and Radio 2.15 less than 24 hours after asking TMOUS to replace my phone. Now I have to clean the custom rom off the old phone and send it back, so I'll never know for sure if it was software or hardware, unless the problem recurs on the new (refurbed) phone. However, the symptom above with the long press hangup does NOT happen so it seems that was the issue.
