Not bad for launching apps etc.. and controlling media player.
A nice bit of software to show off to your mates, as the phone tells you the track title, artist playing etc..
Pretty useless for dialling though I found.. because its made for USA it can't really recognise the way we prenounce names properly (UK) hence everytime I ask it to dial "Dad" it says "Call Fonz?" (someone who is in my phonebook)
And don't even attempt to use it to actually dial numbers you read out!! You'll end up ringing somewhere in australia or something

I regulary use it in the car to initiate calls. I have about 1,800 contacts and would never be able to find a contact with at least one hand on the steering wheel without this program. That's what I was looking for and that's what I got...
Hello, as it costs peanuts I was bored at work yesterday therefore purchased it online. I think it's absolutely fantastic! Only problem is that you have to emulate an American accent for it to recognise your contact names but considering it isn't released in the UK yet I can live with that.

Tried it also, but not really convinced. Takes too much in memory and suffers from severe bugs. It's ok for fun but it's quicker to do everything without!!!

MS Voice Command
Hi,
I’m using Voice Command on my new XDA II; it has proved very useful for controlling Media Player but as we have yet to see the euphemistic entitled ‘International English’ or other language versions, you cannot as yet directly voice-dial numbers which are prefixed by ‘0’ or '00' (that eliminates most telephone numbers outside the North America). Nor can you directly dial any numbers using the GSM prefix ‘+’ tag (which totally eliminates direct voice-dialling international numbers). However, whatever number(s) and format are stored within a previously stored contact and matched by Voice Command, they will be passed correctly to Pocket PC’s dialler.
The real downer is the lack of an appropriate XDA II Profile which would allow Voice Command to be used via a Bluetooth headset – let’s hope HTC will rectify and enhance the available Bluetooth Profiles in the forthcoming ROM update. As an aside, it was recently reported that The Bluetooth Consortium (or whatever) have finally agreed the spec for the Stereo Headset Bluetooth profile – perhaps that wishing for too much from HTC and the forthcoming ROM update.
Provided you have enabled the XDA's automatic 'Microphone Gain' (otherwise you will rapidly become bad-tempered and scream at your XDA), and despite the aforementioned foibles including the annoying requirement to pronounce ‘mobile’ as ‘mobil’ (and need for the use of other North American phonetics), Voice Command is impressively reliable and usually makes the right match with your stored contacts and media files.
MS are to be congratulated; voice response has come a long way since the usable IBM freebee app given away on early IPAQs!

I live in Australia and, as with many others who have posted, was unable to purchase Voice Command.
Except for not being able to 'dial by number' this product really seems very good.
I don't suppose anyone knows a way that we could extend the trial version, until an international version hits the shelves.

I have gotten the Voice Command to work pretty well. I did have to play around with the various types of commands to find out, which commands worked better with my voice. For instance if I say call John Doe on "mobile", I do not have very much success, but if I say the command " on cell phone", in lieu of mobile it works about 90% of the time. It also works better if I delay the confirmation "yes", and it works better if I make the confirmation longer, like "yes that is correct".
The program works well in my car and for some reason some days or contacts work better than others. I love the product because it does afford me true hands free dialing of contacts. For a first release I think it is pretty good, but of course needs improvement.
I believe voice applications are definitely the future for PPC devices, and that in the future we will see more and more progress in this arena.
Gee thats too bad. :lol: Personally, I find it works quite well on my XDA2. But then again, my American accent helps. If you consider that living in the UK, there is a different accent like every 20 miles, you might then realize how much of headache this must be for MS's devs to try and deliver a product that can deal with that. Think about it. Maybe a UK software company will come out with a better voice command alternative? naaah... (but it would be nice, the more we have to choose from the better!) I'll tell you what does help though as I believe was previously mentioned: You do need to make sure that you have the AGC enabled, however I've notice that when I do a softy, that I have to re-enable it. Also try and keep the thing about 18 inches away form your mouth. At the moment, my XDA is next to me and I can reach over, tap the voice notes button which has now been assigned to MS Voice and then say "play whatever song" and it will do it 9 times out of 10. Voice dialing works about the same, 9 out of 10, but it does seem to have trouble understanding the way I say "correct" to confirm. Best of luck!

Having used the software for over a month, I have been able to achieve at least 10% voice recognition in perfectly quiet environments. I have been able to contact so many friends and colleagues I have not spoken to for ages as the program intuitively translates my request to dial my best friend into any number of contacts available in my outlook. I give the product 5 stars for enabling me to call people I hadn't even thought to call. "Wow, I haven't heard from you in ages." The joy you can bring in surprising someone while surprising yourself at the same time. While the product doesn't support useful features such as bluetooth or pronounciation correction, if you can adapt your speech to the pronounciation of the electronic voice, you can achieve terrific results. I can now speak with an accent that has my friends in awe as I attempt to get the software to dial the intended contact. This program has bought enjoyment to many. Don't hesitate, buy it today. Renew old friendships and share the fun with your friends and family
I love Voice Command too. It's great for dialing and opening programs. I have little problem with it opening programs like calendar, notes, contacts, various games.
I disenabled the confirmation while dialing, because it doesn't always recognize my "yes" or "correct". (and I'm from the US) The caveat is that when I ask it to dial from a contact, sometimes it's not the right one, and starts to dial it, and I have to hang up real quickly, hoping it didn't actually start ringing. This is mostly due to me not remembering how a contact is listed, so it's really me, not the program. But my most dialed contacts work great. I even have my voice mail listed in contacts, entered in with a pause and my password so that it dials my voice mail and password automatically. It's great!
Really great program ! ...i silently hope that they will come with an update for different languages...

Voice control program
I heard from a PDA outlet in Melbourne that there was an Australian version of Microsoft Voice for PDA. It is not badged by Microsoft but someone else - does anyone know any more about it or where I could download it from?
Instead of Voice Command, I am using NeuVoice - you have to train it for your own voice, but at least that way you can speak naturally.
You can use it to dial numbers, start applications, run commands or open files.
It won't work in noisy environments.
I have search high and low, but have not foudn this feature anywhere.
It is so convenient to have a software that can pick up the phone, play a message, then record it.
It is faster, easier, and you can keep the recording if you want!
i used to have this feature on my old phone, now I miss it...

I have seen one aftermarket app that did it also but cant remember the name of it.
It would be kewl if someone had a gigabyte one and could extract it from the extended rom and post it.
since your charged minutes for calling your voicemail to listen to it, this saves you airtime if you have a low minute plan.

k7.net is a free service that provides you with a seattle number that you can use to receive voicemails and faxes. i set it up to send voicemails and faxes to my mda as email. at home i setup my voip phone to copy any voicemail to my mda too. now i get everything to my wizard.

The phone I had almost 3 years ago had this feature. I wonder why it is not so prevalent these days. It is so much quicker and easier than having to dial a voice mail service, or sync messages to the phone.

Thanks for the thoughts, but I looked at the SMS answering machine before, and while it a novel program, it is really just an auto-responder, not an answering machine.

Ah, callwave is interesting, but alas, only in the US. I am in China now. Thats another reason I don't want to use voice mail. Navigating your voice mail in Chinese is sometimes very annoying.

Thank you to all the developers on this site. It has answered already most of my queries that I had upon receiving my new HTC Diamond 2.
I am very happy with the device and using some of the tweaks and programs the phone is now nearly set up exactly how I want it.
However there is one feature that I think is missing. As standard the HTC D2 will allow a call to be rejected and a standard text message be sent. But this will be sent to all callers.
I do not want to spend money sending a sms to cold callers for example. Just wondering if it would be possible to create an application that could expand on the standard function.
Some ideas for the app would be:
Send sms only to contacts in the address book that are included in a catergory or multiple catergories.
Send a different sms depending on the catergory of the contact.
Set up profiles to define the reason for not answering call, eg in meeting, driving, sleeping etc
Of cause the above list is not exhaustive.
Would like peoples opinions on this function and whether some one would be able to create. I would of course offer to test the app. Sorry do not have the current skills to create the app.

I love google voice so far, the concept is fantastic. However, i am having issues trying to get everything integrated with my touch pro 2. Has anyone found a way to integrate google voice into the phone so it is seamless, as if google wasnt even there? Is there a way to integrate the SMS into the phone as well instead of going to the website to SMS from the phone? Just wondering what everyone else's experience has been so far, it is great but so very clunky for me.

Best program I've used to date is onedialer. Its not free but you may want to try out the free trial and see how it works for you.
Have to say the developer runs a pretty nice forum asking for input and looking to the user community to offer suggestions on ways to improve. I generally don't pay for much software but believe this one is worth it...
I dont know why someone would dial the google voice number from there phone to make a call (long distance maybe?). I was able to change my TMobile voicemail to the Google voice number so my voicemail messages get transcribed for me [although the accuracy is somewhat hit and miss ].
I found that iDailer and iContact work best. You can go to the iDialer website and you'll be walked through creating a config file. You'll have the option to add your current phone number, your google voice number, and google voice as a callback number. You can use the Rhodium keyboard controller to assign the Talk button to run iDialer when pressed. iContact will open it automatically when you select a contact from it.
As for SMS, I know it's annoying, but the best I have found is to just text the person through the web service once and save the number you get back for them.

For SMS (and calling) cell phones, the best way is to get the other person to send a text (to your Googlevoice number), then add their '406' number to your address book as their mobile number. Then there's no need to go to the web site in the future. Obviously that only works with folks you communicate with regularly. I'm about to try 'onedialer' for the others...

In reading the forums here for a while now, it seems like hardly anyone uses Google Voice for anything. This surprises me, since I've always used GV and I can't imagine not using it. I mean, it lets you read/write/manage your SMS messages on your computer (ie I don't have to pull out my phone to text people if I'm at my computer), lets you make/receive calls straight to your computer (ie I don't have to pull my phone out necessarily if I want to make/receive a call and I'm at my computer), calls made/received on your computer don't count against your minutes, and if you happen to still have a MyFaves plan (and I know several of you do) you can set GV as one of your Faves and have all calls made/received with your handset free as well. The only problem I've ever had with it is that it sends/receives SMS messages over your data network, so if you're somewhere where the data connection is clogged (like I was when I was at a music festival recently), you can't send/receive texts. Even so, with all these advantages (some of them pretty huge IMO), why does it seem like no one uses it?
So, do you? If not, why not?

Use it for texting and voice mail.
Not perfect, many things I would like improved, but definitely worth it for me.

I'm curious, what would you like to see improved? Personally, I'd like to be able to send mass texts from my phone, and to be able to send/receive MMS. I know you can send "mass" (to like five recipients, which, I mean, I've never needed to send a text to more than five people, so that's worked fine for me) texts through GV on a computer, but I can't get it to work on my phone.
I use it for international calls, international TXTing (no longer avail.), and craigslist or similar type of communication with people I don't want to share my real phone no. with.
I also use it in conjunction with Gizmo5 when I'm overseas. Sometimes I use this method when my minutes approach the limit.
MMS please! It's about time. This is the only reason why I still have to use my actual phone number.

Or you could use email. Or you could upload the picture to dropbox and SMS a dropbox link. Or you could share on any of the other numerous photoshare sites. There's a million ways around the MMS issue if you need to send some crucial media message, but I agree that it would be nice to have the functionality regardless.
We need pitcher messages, at least pitcher hosting so other people can just click the link. I use Google Voice but it's not perfect, it's not that fast.. it needs to be faster.
I just use it for the vm to text. That's pretty handy. I don’t have to talk to or even listen to people anymore!

First I love GV. I have it routed to my home via sip, my cell with the GV app and when I'm traveling with the client built into gmail.
Improvement:
1. MMS would be great. Yes, I could use the cell or gmail but... it would be nice if it were incorporated into GV.
2. The GV organization for messaging (both the app and website) is well, basic. I don't get why all texts from one person can not stay in one convo. Makes it harder to find old text messages.
3. I would like to see more way to initiate conference calls
4. international calls could be cheaper. Yes they are cheaper than skype but that is not cheap... On my phone I use the voxofon app and at home voip with callwithus.
5. petty maybe, but I wish I could adjust the time before VM kicks in.

I love it and use it for my voicemail.
I have a Seattle number that most of my friends know, but upon moving to Arizona, being able to have an AZ local number was a big plus. Now I can have 2 numbers on one cell and not have to update any of my long-term contacts of a number change or any of that nonsense.
I use it, but I don't really love it.
I do not like their voicemail service AT ALL, however I like the convenience of giving people my google voice number, people whom I don't necessarily like
I use it for all my vmails, and for texting. I may even lower my texting package from tmo soon to save a few bucks. I can block people easily, can set custom greetings for different groups of people, and I can even use my bluetooth to make phone calls via my PC bypassing the need for a big voice package.
I use it for voicemail primarily and its the number I give out to businesses and people I don't really care to talk to so I can screen the calls. I also use it more when I don't have my phone on me or im on the computer

I used to use it but I found it redundant and some people didn't appreciate having to keep up with so many phone numbers (GV, Business, Real Vibrant number). It doesn't support MMS so that made it hard to use exclusively.
Plus, I could do without those services running in the background.
It's nice for when you're selling stuff on CraigsList and don't want to give your real number, though.
I do hate Google for making it impossible for us to take our numbers off without giving another real number, or removing Google Voice from our Google Account.
But a quick phone number change took care of that.
I use it for texting some people that i dont want to have my real tmo number.I still have the unlimited texts....i've been thinking of dropping unlimited texting from my plan. I wish I had myfaves so I could have unlimited free calling with it...gotta find a way to get myfaves...hope tmo brings it back.
Its also great for using online,for example, Craigslist etc. Overall I think its great and I can't wait for more innovative features to be added.
