On my Cingular 8125 I don't have the option to select which tower to connect to. I'd like to be able to select between Cingular Orange and Cingular Blue as Blue has a much better signal at my office. I was able to do this on my Motorolla v551 and it worked great.
But when I go to Settings --> Phone --> Network, there's only a "Find Network" button and I don't have the option to choose which network it actually connects to.
I know the Network tab has network selection features (they've displayed for me a couple times when I was on business travel roaming), they just seem to be hidden when I'm in my home calling area.
Any tips on a reg DWORD I can flip or something to enable network selection?
Unless you have a pre-2002 simcard you won't be able to select any network that isn't already added in the network list.
My friend has a 2125 with pretty much the exact same plan... signed up same time as me, got SIM card same time as me... why would he be able to select networks and not me?
I still think there's gotta be a software solution. :-/
I upgraded my 8125's ROM to the 2.17 version and now I have network select. Also I have a 3G sim card.
I'm on 2.17 as well, and I do NOT have these options! This is a real problem as I have no signal at home or work! I need to be able to select the old ATT tower in this area (which has perfect signal!!)
Someone block the SIM from doing this to us all please!
is there a registry tweak to remove the roaming icon on my TyTN?
the registry hack from my Wizard does not work on the TyTN...
I am using the TyTN on Cingular in the US (Hawaii), and the roaming icon is constantly on even though I am on my home network. I did not get the roaming icon on my old Wizard, but I get it on the TyTN. Maybe this is because I am using the old AT&T Wireless towers...
any help on how to get rid of the icon? :?:
Hi,
What is the roaming icon, something similar to a radio tower?
I think I newer saw it...
It's your wifi trying to connect...
It disappears when your gprs is searching or online.
When you don't start an internet connection but only activate your wifi then you'll see it appear...
the roaming icon is a solid triangle that appears to the left of the GPRS (or UMTS) icon. page 23 of the manual also describes it as a roaming icon.
i got it once or twice on my qtek 9100 when i actually WAS roaming, but my TyTN displays it ALL the time
ok, I understand.
Did you check your "Phone settings" especially the "Range" tab (I'm not sure of the english word, it's after the newtork tab) ?

I have the same issue with my TyTN in San Diego
Possible fix
I had the roaming indicator on all the time on my wizard. Was able to turn it off with the following reg change:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
DisableRoamingIndicator
Change value to 1
Try this might work for tytn..... still waiting for mine to arrive

I tried this reg hack as soon as I got my TyTN, but it does not work. I don't know why they changed it...
I don't think just make the roaming indicator disable is the right solution. The device thinks its in roaming mode the because of that all roaming rule apply like Over the Air Sync schedule and so on.
I contacted HTC support but still didn't got reply[/quote]
Any News On This One...?
I'm having the same problem--I'm on Cingular in Seattle. I've tried the registry hack and it doesn't work, the roaming triangle never goes away. I'm assuming this isn't a problem as I'm clearly in my home area, but it would be nice to know what to do to it to make it go away.
T-Mobile (US) vs. Cingular SIM
So I popped a friends T-Mobile (US) SIM into my TyTN and I don't get the roaming triangle like I do with my Cingular 3G SIM. So I'm wondering if the issue with the roaming triangle is with the SIM, or something that can actually be changed in the phone (like the previous reg hack that worked on the Wizard).
I've looked everywhere in the registry, tried changing some of the settings in the "OperatorNames" key and also the stuff in \HKLM\System\State\Phone but no luck yet.
Does anyone know if this behavior is phone/reg based or SIM based?
I wonder if it has to do with Cingular's (in the process of converging) blue and orange towers.
Well i'm in Toronto, and everyone seems to be in different places that this is happening to, so i don't believe its a "carrier" or provider problem. thats my theory... also.. i tried the hack above the LM/drives/Built itn/RIL but cannot see any options in the reg that even suggest hint at disabling the roaming icon.
This sux. I can't believe HTC customer support is as bad as it is.
How can we get to the bottom of this?
I have upgraded to the most recent HTC TyTN ROM (1.35) and the roaming icon is now gone. The new radio ROM (1.18) appears to have fixed this issue.
It is difficult to understand, why it is a “problematic issue". Basically, Roaming triangle appears to facilitate you, that you’re not roaming in your Home PLMN (Own Operator NW). It means you’re visitor in an other GSM Network (VPLMN) and you are registered as Roamer . This is nice to know with Roaming triangle if Roaming charges applied OR NOT.
I get the roaming icon everytime I install a ROM that is a non-Cingular ROM. My phone is an JasJam, when I first turned it on I had a roaming symbol, calls to imate and Cingular were unsuccessful. Installed a newer Cingular ROM (1.34) and the triangle went away, then I installed an HTC ROM (1.35) and symbol was back, then I installed Cingular's 2.06 and it was gone, radio v1.33.
Now I've installed WM6 Vanilla which keeps whatever radio you were using before and the symbol is back.
I'm convinced it has something to do with the OS talking with the SIM so there has to be a regedit somewhere to correct this. I really hate having this thing warn everytime I initiate a OTA Sync. Don't let this issue die its still out there.

Not a problem if it is a true indication. But it is misleading when you are registered on your own network.
Seems I got same problem in Hong Kong.....previouly me using Vodafone 2G service....now changed to Hong Kong 3 2G/2.5G(i-mode) service...I can connect to 3(2G) network but a roaming icon keeps showing all the time.....I am bit nervous the roaming charge now T_T
And I am using Dopod818Pro in Hong Kong
was there ever a resolution for this?
Remove roaming triangle... Solved.
I had the same issue with the roaming triangle... I'm not sure where I found this but it works perfect for me. I use Task Manager (http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm) to import it to my registry, then I just restart the phone and the roaming indicator is gone.
Good luck to you and vote Ron Paul!

The "Advanced Network" utility seems to be missing the option that disables HSDPA... Any ideas how to enable it?
Many thanks.
Same question here. I've got a T-Mobile UK HD2 and am seeing the 'H' logo rather a lot.
I've just tried one fix which is to create a shortcut for CMBandSwitcher in the startmenu and use that to switch the connection from Auto to GSM, however I'm not sure if I'm now getting 3G data or not.

[Q] Stuck on "EDGE". How can I change the Network under "SIM Status" ?
I'm running Dirty Unicorns 9.8 OFFICIAL (5.1.1) on my Nexus 4. The other day I noticed I had like one or two bars so went into Settings > About phone > Status > SIM Status and clicked "Network". Usually, there are a handful of providers to use there and sometimes changing to a different one improves my reception (This is a T-Mobile phone). I don't remember what I left it on.
Today the phone is stuck on "EDGE" under "Cellular Network Type". I tried to get back in the "Network" to check and see if I left it on something stupid, but I can't get back into the provider selection. No matter what I do, the device won't hook up to "LTE" (whatever HSPA/HSPA+ thing T-mo says is LTE). Everything worked fine last week. Haven't applied any patches or anything other than messing around with the Network settings. Any idea what I might try? Is there a magic dialpad entry to use to reset the Network?
Thanks

Same problem here with metro pcs who uses T-mobile
After a few days of this, and several chats and calls to T-Mobile, it seems T-Mobile is "working on towers" in my area and things will be like this for a few days. The situation is this according to the last phone call with T-mobile:
* HSPA+ is no longer available on the towers in my area
* LTE and GSM (Edge) are the only supported modes
* LTE is not supported on the Nexus 4. tuff-shizz. buy a new phone.
Ok well this sucks... so here's what I did in the past couple days.
* Installed Chroma ROM and the the LTEEnable zip file thing floating around all the forums here.
* Found out Chroma was a rebranded AOSP ripoff so uninstalled it.
* flashed Dirty Unicorns 6.0.1 to my Nexus 4, bluetooth seemed funky so flashed the .33 radio from "dmitry" ROM that I found on several threads. Also flashed LTEEnable zip, not sure I needed it. LTE now working.
* dialed *#*#4636#*#* and went into "Phone Info"
* Network Type: "LTE"
* Set Preferred Network Type: LTE/GSM (PRL) -- originally had this set to "LTE only" but no voice calls could go out, or come in.
You would think this is the end of story, but wait. Voice calling takes 20 seconds to connect (even voice mail). With "LTE only" settings all incoming calls go directly to voice mail. never even rings the phone. Are you shizzing me?? With "LTE/GSM (PRL)" the phone waits for 20 seconds to drop from LTE back to "Edge" before the call finally hooks up.
Today, found out nexus 4 doesn't do VOLTE (Voice Over LTE). at least thats what google said. That would explain the Drop to "Edge" when dialing out.
Thing is, I tried this with a NEXUS 5 on my account, using two different sims , running stock Android Whatever on the N5 and it does the EXACT SAME THING. dropping calls to "Edge" before connecting. Takes 20 seconds to dial out. Incoming calls on LTE (which the n5 runs by default) all go to voicemail.
So it seems the workaround now is to dial the "magic number" above and set the "Preferred Network" to "GSM only" (Edge). That's the only way to get phone calls in or out of either device on T-Mobile's network today. Don't bother trying to Google anything though because it won't re-connect to LTE to do it. On either my hacked N4 or the stock ROM N5. You may as well be using a dial-up modem to get any data through either phone.
So, in the end, I don't have anything screwed up under "Network Settings". I'm stuck in "Edge" mode because Tmo is updating towers for LTE. It remains to be seen if I have to upgrade both and N4 and N5 to stay on T-Mobile however. The next few days will tell. I still think this is a bit of a ****-move on T-Mobile's part. Especially if I have to upgrade the N5. It's an expense I wasn't planning on. They could at least kick in some rebate to help out with the cost of new devices. No idea if it would save any money to switch carriers at this point.
