There seem to be lots of glowing reviews of the Prophet, but very few complaints.
I recently purchased an Imate JAMin after owning a C500 for quite some time, and I have to say that I am unfortunately disappointed with my experience thus far.
I really am trying to like this device (especially given that I am now stuck with it) but am finding it hard.
Unless I just have a bad unit, do you people not agree that the sound quality is deplorable? Not just for playing music out of the poorly placed speaker on the back of the device, but also the sound quality coming from the earpiece.
Do you remember making your own 'mobile' phones using tin cans and string as kids? THOSE had better sound quality than the Prophet.
What do you guys think?

I do agree. The prophet does have this, I believe, as its one weakness.
My previous experience with spv phones, and the qtek 2020, sadly seems a bit the same.
I do like the my qtek s200, dispite this fact... I almost miss my 2020 a bit... but I am sure a couple of ROM updates will fix the sound issues you are talking about.
The phone, though, is very capable and I have learned to live with this for now.
Kind regards, G.

Using my Dopod 818Pro for nearly 3 months, never have a feeling of that extremely bad sound quality. However, agree with you that the speaker is misplaced but many PPC phones also place their speaker on the back. Don't know why?
The standard sound quality of a magician isn't gooed either. Now I use Mortplayer (with equalizer) for mp3's etc & plugin a decent headphone (with a 3.5mm -> 2.5mm converter) it changed a hell of a lot. Phone calls aren't changed by this of course & indeed my old Nokia has a better sound quality during a call :-( It doesn't bother me too much anymore, after 9 months of use I'm used to it.
Regards, M
Other "issues" with my prophet
I have had my qtek s200 - aka prophet - for a week now, and have even more "issues" to point out why Randy's point is re-enforced!
Just off the top of my head, did anyone mention:
1) from previous HTC mobiles I have had (qtek 2020, spv 200, qtek 8310), why, ohh, why did they put the power button on the side! I find it hard to hit, both with regard to location and the fact it seems to be in a hole ;-)
2) really a bad phone - generally for dialing (unless you are using speed dial), as I have found touchpad buttons small and not as responsive as my previous qtek 2020.
3) can't seem to get around the "invalid vendor id" - thus haven't been able to update rom yet (or change t9 dll files) - just another reason.
4) volume is VERY low - hence poor speakerphone volume and I CAN'T USE IT AS AN ALARM! HELLOOOO!
Other than that - the phone - if you can call it that... better call it - the PDA - work nicely.
G.
I believe that someone should view the product before u pay the money.
and by viewing someone should at least has an idea what the product is being like. In case it is over internet. I think some "homework" should be done before the "ENTER" button is hit.
I'm willing to exchange ur "paper weight" with 2 real paper weight. Deal?
i have search the forum and the website...
and i found something interesting...

http://forum.mypdacafe.com/viewtopic.php?t=7796&sid=77e4cfd56835b0f3e33dc0da98fd7780
and you can see that the result of the test is kinda of different...
Anyway which one do you think is better?
because i have O2 mini but recently it has some problem like if i change the battery (i have 2 batteries) my O2 hard resetted and i already send it to my provider and they already help me changed a new backup battery but the problem still exist and i dont know why... that's why i considering to sell it... too bad :? coz i really love my mini
Hi,
mine behave the same until I replaced the main battery.
now its workinf with no problems for 3 months and counting...
Atom was very slow in the beginning. But improves quite a lot after the rom update. I've been playing it for a week since my friend just brought one and need to install software for him. I don't have a 818pro to compare but here is what I feel compare to Mini. (using the latest leaked rom)
1. Atom is quite fast and responsive. But I still feel mini is a bit faster (especially multiple apps are running)
2. At first, I thought the .1 inch smaller in screen is not noticeable. But it does! (especially using it as GPS).
3. The shorter dimension make it easier for me to keep in the pocket. And I am staring to like the plastic suface because it is not as slippy as the mini.
4. A2DP is working fine but the quality is really bad and not justify for me to give up the wired solution.
5. Camera is slow (I mean it!!!) and impossible to take a good pic in without good lighting
6. I don't like the way that the mic is disable when I plug-in an adapter into the 2.5mm jack. (The mic of mini still working if we plug an 3 (not 4) poles adapter into the jack)
7. Wifi is very convenient if U need to online all the time.
Based on the review I read so far, I won't recommend 818pro due to the slowness of it's CPU.

you said you replaced the main battery... that means you have it repaired and they replace the backup battery with new one right?

Hi all,
HP iPAQ rw6828 is launched recently in Asia. Althought, it has same spec as O2 Atom, however HP claimed that they have a more stable ROM.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...eId=215348&prodSeriesId=1839223&lang=en&cc=us
How do you think between rw6828 & Atom??
Atom for me!
This black color is not comparable with any other!
is there a place to D/L the HP rom ?
You may not want this rom on the HP  Check the ppcsg forum and hear the groans/moans. It would need a few more upgrades to reach the latest Atom ROM
Mine is still in Hong Kong for repair but I still love my Atom
Victor
just wonder if it possible to install the HP rom on ATOM ?
after all they have the HW.
Sure there are enough brains around to do the CID unlocking
Hi guys,
I am living in Hong Kong and easily can get BRAND NEW HP iPAQ rw6828 (& accessories).

I took a look at the HP 6828 at the shops yesterday and i was very impressed with the build quality over the Atom. Although a little bit thicker the HP feels very solid, it doesnt squeak when i squeeze the phone in my palm like my Atom does and the button certainly feels a lot more solid and less flimsy than the Atom. So physically the HP wins, I also heard that the HP has better sound quality on both phone and music wise. However, on the software side I dont know, I didnt turn the phone on; but i guess it would be very similar or even better to the Atom once HP has as much air time on the device as O2.
i am planning to trade my Atom in for the 6828 today
go for ipaq rw6828
i have used both models, n my recomendation is clearly ipaq.
atoms:
- Main memory storage only 43 MB
- Audio call quality, atom is known to have echo during phone call.
- bad support / warranty, at least in indonesia.
- silly un-mappable "Start Menu" key/ button
vs.
rw6828:
- large memory, 58.5MB internal memory available to user !!!!!!!
- no echoes!!!!!!
- softkey, i love soft key, you can install smartkeys, it works great.
you have extra functions on your softkey.
- best warranty amongst PDA, i have had ipaq b4, the turnaround time is very short. 1week to 2 weeks. compare to o2 / dopod, 1month to 2 months !!!!!!!!!!
Dear klikman and all users,
How is the sound quality? really full duplex stereo speakers?
Can wen trust in HP/quanta Technical Support?
WHERE TO BUY???
(expansys out of stonck and Chinese warranty only)
RE:WHERE TO BUY???
Dear X-ZeLs0,
Ask Baobaobao to help you:
Sent my Atom to Hong Kong for servicing and asked for his help. He personally picked it up yesterday and bought me a Mont Blanc leather case. Shiped by DHL and it is already in Amsterdam, according to my tracking info!

atom/6828 quality
hi X-ZeLsO,
the sound quality on atom n 6828 is about the same.
i sell PDAs, and so far, atom has been doing quite well, in terms of reliability. HTC products like 818, 838, have more problems (non-software), ranging from broken speaker (mostly in 818), touchscreen misaligned (found on more than half of 838s, some are recoverable after running "screen align" again), dead mainboard (v. rare).
while atom, have more problems with the rom, which is easier to fix.
hardware problem found on atom: broken speaker, camera sometimes become distorted.
price of atom's spareparts is also cheaper than HTC's phone.

I'm just thinking in the ATOM or HP6828
Both same manufacturer but different support (and soft buttons)
Can I trust in HP ROM upgrades??
Can I use HP Technical Assitance from in my country? Without delivering costs. (Spain)
Both devices are really superb, perhaps HP is the definitive software upgraded/patched Atom?

All Atom users!! i urge you to trade in your Atom for the HP 6828, I just received my HP6828 yesterday and I must say for direct comparisons (as I have both units right here) the Atom seems like a prototype phone and the HP6828 is the production version. Physically the HP6828 is better quality overall, no squeaks when in you hand, the buttons feel much much better... actually feels like a 700USD phone. The package is also better quality, the ear phones are totally different league to the Atom. On the ROM side I feel that the HP6828 is faster and more responsive than the Atom; has more ram available, the software packages are also better coded. HP has fixed most of the design glitches that have plagued the Atom....and lots more..too much to say..you need to try it for yourself, I love the Atom since the first day I got it, but after five months of this and that.. I have found the prefect device.. the HP 6828 is the best out there now!! go get it..
Hope this gets some of the Atom users some ideas of what to expect from HP... Im almost certain whos ever in love with the Atom, once you have felt the HP6828, you will leave the Atom and go for the HP. its just too good to miss...
Realy, its so stupid...Like childrens, anyone has HP say its way-way better, and all Atom users say that Atom is better.Wake up,we speak about same devices!I have Atom for a month, also have used HP few hours. Its exectly SAME devices inside!About ROM,Atom has 43mb,but install ShowHidenPartition.CAB and you'll the same as HP's size,HP's ROM bigger only because its have not "hiden" part.
Now,about qualaty & buttons - HP does not have more buttons then Atom, its have 2 soft buttons but have not media & start menu buttons,if you like soft buttons - remap Atoms keys, number of buttons same on two devices.I think we will see start menu key remaper, its not a big problem, personaly i prefer application keys, soft buttons i mapped for long press (used AEButtonMaper). Also,Atom looks better in my (and few peoples i asked) opnion,HP does not looks like something special, and its plastic cover looks bad.Speed - Atom with lastest ROM bit faster, but generaly they have same speed and same sound qualaty, because same HardWare,HP simply can't be better then Atom and Atom can't be better then HP.
So,its realy nothing to speek & think about, its SAME devices that looks little diferent, you have to put you hands on both of them, take a look and use'am for a few hours if you can, after buy one that you like more, inside its a same hardware.
Decided after a week with my new atom that i've had enough. For a $1000 device its not worth all the hassle. Firstly the speakerphone cuts in and out, the device's speakers are too soft so i miss alarms and reminders, the recording microphone is terrible, the camera quality is average but the speed is extremely slow, and to top it all of the screen emits a noise. Theres some srs flaws in this little device. I'm sure that many ppl have had good experiences with their atom but it just doesn't do it for me. I'm switching to a Eten m600+, i heard that it was a good phone. Anyone know much abou them? There not very abundant in Australia.
I'm not going to try and make you see the light about the Atom , but the m600+ was next on my list to purchase. The only thing that swung it for me was the FM Radio on the Atom.
There is a full review on the M600 (not the + version) over of PocketPCThoughts.com. They are working on a review of the m600+, but overall the review was very positive.
I also was tossing up between the 2.
What swayed me to the O2 was the better phone quality,(sound)
and sig strenth.

well i'v the Eten M600+ and your problems are the same for me no problems at all with signal strenght but sound and phone volume are very low. batterie makes noise when charging, camera same as yours but the flashlight sucks it is strange but things like alarms and reminders are working very well(sound to) and bluetooth is the biggest disaster that really sucks batterie life is good but the cpu isn't as fast as my qtek s100
but the 256mb ram really rocks and the screen is really clear
sow take another look at it.
an maybe go for the tytn
Hi Ppl,
I new here and new to PDA as well. After see everything in the market...
I have really liked the Atom Life.....But There seem to be quite few bad reviews about the Phone......So is worth getting the phone......
@tazzak m8 firstly hi and lemme say one thing that i surely feel what you are going through right now that is exactly what i felt in august (at the time of my buying the LIFE)
you know since then i have actually wondered and awed at why the LIFe got such reviews .... since my buying this phone which had come with the WM6 official ROM installed (though i have upgraded it twice officially since then) i have had no problems NO PROBLEMS what so ever...
though i surely have a few qualms that guys at O2 could have had an icing to the cake with a 128MB RAM (though this is not any slower) and the other complain is that all hardware vendors should do something bout the Batteries as these PPCs are huge power hogs due to their large screens it seems but then even with my Nokias i charge them daily (with regular use)
in the end i must say that my choice has never been a regret for me !
welcome to the world of Windows Mobile ;-)
How are the Speakers on it OK?
I usually use the spaeker phone for calls most of the time......
just dont buy this devise
The speakerphone is OK, but the volume isn't high enough to use it as a car handsfree. If you're in a room without much noise you should be good. I am very satisfied with mine, but they do have their quirks. Like a crappy original battery. Get one of the cheap batteries available on eBay, it will actually work better than the original. The original has problems with restarts on incoming call if they are too low on power (which means everything below 50 %).

Yup! agree should try it out before getting it. O2 Atom Life has its flaws
Like all PDA phones I've ever had. I actually started with an extremely primitive Motorola "smartphone" and have followed the development of more and more advanced models, along with straight PDA's from the PocketLoox and beyond, until they really converged. Not one of them has been without flaws, and strangely enough all forums I have been at seems to think that their phone brand is the only one with problems! (Like people with PocketLoox complaining about the bluetooth and that Ipaqs got a lot more updates. So I bouht an update. And found out that the reason it got more updates was that it had more problems, not just with bluetooth but other things as well!)
sounds like the phone gives a pain in the ass.
Just my opinion. been using O2 life for 4 mths now. Like most new phone/pda, I will start to install lots of stuff. Cause me lots of headache with auto off , drop call etc. Battery last less than 1 day. I have reformat and install only what I need. 1 whole month without any problem. The thing is, just install what you need and the world will be a beautiful place
I have a special way of doing this: I do a full setup of the Atom with all programs I use and all settings except contacts and appointments. Then I do a full backup with SPB Backup. In a month or so the unit wil start to mess with me (the first sign is usually that it won't charge in the cradle, connected to the PC, only in a regular charger). Then I do a hard reset and restore the backup. It takes 10 minutes to do this, and I have a virginal phone again. I have of course set camera and other things to save to the memory card. This way memory leaks and other annoyances can be stopped very fast!
Great phone - and other things
Like you, I read the negative reviews but there wasn't a device out there that somone didn'nt like. I bit the bullet and upgraded my XDA II Mini which was OK but I had some gripes with and bought my new Life. It's been a great device with absolutely no problems. It even works well as a speakerphone but my car is pretty quiet. Simple solution - run the phone through your stereo, either using an FM transmitter or plug it in and you'll have no problems hearing.
My phone is very stable but I do agree that the stock battery life is crappy.
Highly recommended.
Actually, Atom Life is an excelent device but it has its flaws. What made it a bad device is because of the support. Most problems faced by customers are not solved. Instead, customers are asked to hard reset as the solution.
O2 Asia is terrible. The new company, MGW seems to be no different. It has been about 4 months MGW existed but their web page remain unfinish. This is mainly because the CEO is the same person.
If I ever change my PDA, I'll go for HTC. Why? O2 Xda II mini which is O2 Asia bestselling device is made by HTC, or better known as Magician.
MWg is selling a newer version which comes with WM6 pre-installed. Does anyone have that version? Is it any better?
Mobileplanet / Expansys is selling it at 399 which makes it a great deal IMHO.

I am selling this phone cheaper. I am using it and I really like Atom Life, especially since the 1900 3G works well with AT&T in the US.
