I searched and cannot find the answer I am looking for... Hope I am posting in the right forum for this particular topic.
Anyway - I recently flashed my ROM to DCD's 3.1.2. I missed a step in the process and ended up with a Sprint phone for a day or two before I had time to switch back.
One thing I REALLY liked about the Sprint version was that when I had the phone set to vibrate and I got a text message or email, it gave two or three quick little vibrations... Now, after flashing properly, my vibration notifications are what they were with Verizon's stock ROM - an extremely long and loud vibration that draws more attention in a meeting than if I had the sound on!!
Any ideas on how to change the vibration back to what the Mogul has? I really like the quick and quiet vibrations.
Thanks!
Nobody? Should I have posted this in the Upgrading forum instead?
Just in case I didn't post clearly: When in vibrate mode and receiving a text, email, phone call, etc., on my Verizon xv6800 with DCD's 3.1.6 rom, I am getting one long buzz that is quite embarrassing while sitting in a meeting.
What I am looking for is to have it give two or three quick buzzes. I don't want a program to do this - I want to know if anybody has a registry hack or even a CAB file they have developed for this???
Like I said originally - when I accidentally flashed with Sprint's customizations, I got the three quick buzzes...
Anybody know the registry difference between Sprint's customizations and DCD's or Verizon's that causes this long buzz???
Thanks!
Ok - that's weird that you get a long buzz on a vibrating text notification. I'm using an XV-6800 with the stock ROM and get three short vibrations when I get a text message or e-mail notification.

this has been covered before. First, you need a registry editor, as one does not come on our phones. I use PHM Regedit. Navigate here from within the regeditor:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VIB]
Edit the following:
"STRENGTH_LOW"=dword:00000000 (click on the name and change the "value data:" to 0)
wait 10 seconds or so, soft reset, and problem solved!
btw, PHM regedit can be found here if you need it: http://www.phm.lu/downloads/download.aspx?{940B734A-C437-41C7-ADED-2A4418802FD3}
i highly recommend you use the desktop installer to ensure you get the correct version on your phone.

Hey All,
I've been having this problem with inordinately long vibrations as well. (Sprint Mogul, running 20270)
I went to make the change mentioned in the previous post, and it's already set to 0. Does anyone else have any other ideas?
Note this is the vibrate that occurs when sound is *on* not off... I want to be able to get a vibration in addition to the sound for when I'm in a loud location.
Any help is greatly appreciated
I agree. I hate the extremely long/loud vibrate notification and would love to know how to change it?!

faysel, over at the modaco forum has come up with this awesome cab that lets you get vibrating feedback everytime you press one of the number buttons in the phone. The vibration lasts as long (or as short!) as you press the button.
Great cab, very useful for knowing whether you have indeed pressed the key.
This is great, thank you. I used to use Redial with vibrating effect on my PDA2k (WM2003SE) but this is even better
don't expect a long battery life with that!

Are you kidding me? I mean what kind of a battery effect you think it will have? Its such a small vibe that I don't expect to have ANY noticable effect on battery life. First it vibes only when you dial phone numbers (how many a day? 5? 6? even 20? Its still nothing. Second, receiving a phone call, that is the vibration during it, probably uses more power than this addition will use in 20 calls...
I really disagree...
This is a great little program!
I don't like it because if you tap fast, it wont vibrate. In addition to this, there is a serious problem with the dialer after you uninstall it.
So I had to reinstall it and now i'm stuck with it
My rating : 0 (ZERO)
@Andrew_sh: use the attached cab to get the keytones back, then uncheck from the sounds and notifications settings to get a working silent dialer back.
@Koksie
Thanks for trying but unfortunately it won't fix it.
When I press the button , the tone will sound but if I press it again shortly after, it lags and makes a higher pitched tone.
Sorry to hear it didn't work Andrew, I have no idea how to fix this. I use the vibrate and am happy with it, on my Magician going back with this cab worked fine, I have no idea what is causing this in your Prophet. I hope you can figure it out and correct it, good luck with that.

Try this, it's a saved registry string of the original keys that the .cab modified. Hopefully i'll work for you without messing up anything else.
I had to rename the file vibrate off.reg.exe to ba able to attach it. Just delete the .exe part ie. vibrate off.reg
this is a technical forum
can someone paste here the registry keys which are being modified by this vibrate utility?
thanks
Using a registry editor navigate to the following keys and follow the directions. Do this for each of the listed registy keys
1. Rename Standard DWORD parameter "Sound" to "Sound1"
2. Create new String Parameter "Sound"
3. Assign value *vibrate* to this new parameter.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf#
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf*
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf1
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf2
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf3
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf4
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf5
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf6
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf7
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf8
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf9
this mod doesn't work fine for me, I noticed the vibrate a few time but it's not working everytime I tap on the Keypad...
Strange :?
Although the mod works fine, I had big troubles removing it again.
After removing the mod with the supplied cab file any keys pressed in the dialer would lag and emmit a short beep.
i finally succeeded in removing it manually:
First reinstall the vibrate mod again so that the keys vibrated again when pressed.
Then go into the registery keys posted above, deleted the parameter "Sound" and then rename the parameter "Sound1" back to "Sound".
Do this for all Dtmf keys.
Thats all
its true if you tap fast it wont vibrate at all.. very annoying. is there a way to make it vibrate for a set lenght.. much like the dtmf tones used to be.. no matter how long or short i press..
that would be very useful.
regards,
tom

I used this mod until I found out that I couldn't turn off vibrate on incoming calls anymore. I can't be sure that they are related, but the timing was right. The next time I did a ROM upgrade I didn't install it again. I use speed dial with Photo Contacts Pro anyway.

I recently modified the registry on my ATT 8525 to eliminate the SMS Sent notification message (thanks to those that posted the info here, it's a god send!)
Anyways, during the process I inadvertently modified the wrong notification line and now I do not get any notifications when my alarm clock goes off (other than it going off to wake me up). I can't snooze it or even turn it off though, as the notification prompt doesn't appear.
I now have to turn off the volume, modify sounds/notifications to all off, and wait about two hours for the system to stop activitating the alarm. Needless to say I've missed many a phone call during this two hour "silent" timeframe.
Can anyone tell me where this is and what the setting should be?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmmmm... after looking over the wiki I can't see that you affected anything else in that directory...
Was the change you made in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings directory???
You might need to hard reset to get rid of the problem (resetting the registry back to stock). But I would wait to see if anyone else here has info that could help you.
I suggest you look around and get the palm threaded sms app (you can warez it well!).... Its the best thing since sliced bread! (Just make sure to change the default mms settings, original .cab was based on sprint network, but its very easy to change)
My two cents...

I don't recall. What I did was change what I thought was the setting. Then I sent a text. It didn't work, so I changed it back and started over. I did this three times. I think I changed something and forgot to change it back? Problem is I don't know what I didn't change back
I really don't want to do a hard reset, but I'm getting to that point. Now my phone alarm won't go off -- I think there are too many notifications back logged. When I soft reset it sounds like it's trying to play 100 alarms all at once
Can anyone else help out?
Indeed it may have happened anyway as the notification queue does get clogged. So before a hard reset you could clear duplicates using the likes of Scarybear Check Notifications (freeware) OR Sktools OR Memmaid neither free but have many other features beside clearing duplicate notifications.
Mike
Thanks for the advice...however, I can remove the notifications HKCU\System\State but it's only temporary. (scarybear does not list that program on their site any longer)
I really need to find out how to get notifications turned back on!
I know it's a reg edit that I missed changing back, I just don't know which one as I didn't realize the problem for a couple of days.
Anyone else have any help? Surely someone out there knows where these notifications are in the registry
Personally I say just take an hour of your free time and hard reset. Make sure everything is all good.
You might also use a program like HTCustom to do the regedit for you next time. That way you won't inadvertantly change anything.
Well I was really hoping to avoid a hard reset when all I need to do it make one simple registry change But it does appear that I may have to do it since no one seems to know where this change needs to take place.
I've probably spent an hour going through the registry looking for anything that could possibly be the alarm notification, but I've had no success.
Thanks to those of you that offered advice, I do appreciate it. Guess it's time to bite the bullet.
Hi all,
Looks like my T-Mobile MDA Vario II is heading the way of the D-Pad/White Screen ribbon failure (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163) but as I've not yet got the white screen, and the problem is intermittent I wanted to ask a software question first before I broke out the screwdrivers.
Is there an easy way to change the soft key actions during a incoming call, so that I can click on the screen instead of the answer hardware key to answer a call reliably?
From reading around it may be that this is locked to the particular dialer as none of the key config tools seem to allow you to change these temporary soft key items?
At the moment I'm running Schaps 4.30 ROM which I've found very stable and feature packed, but when there's an incoming call the soft keys change to 'Silence' and 'Send Text' neither of which are as important to me as 'Answer' and 'Reject' which is what I'd like on there.
If it is a case that these soft keys can't be changed via the registry does anyone know of a WM6-6.1 ROM or Dialer that does have the options I need?
Many thanks in advance for any help!
I'm pretty sure my ROM does the 'Answer' and 'Reject' soft keys... I'm pretty sure that's the default too... If Schaps has something different, then I think he changed it away from the default to what he has...
Many thanks now on latest CRC 6.1 Stable
Hi CRC,
Many thanks for your quick reply, flashed to your latest WM 6.1 Stable ROM last night and can confirm Accept/Reject Softkeys on answer are present and work great!
ROM also feels smoking fast, so will leave it as is for a week or so and then might move to your development ROM to help give feedback and squash bugs.
Obviously your ROMs are very clean so looks like I'll start heading off to find all those Cabs like 6 button Home, Big Start Menu and Audio Manager that make life that little bit more thumb friendly.
Really appreciate the work you do getting the engine tuned so well! (You should get a small donation come through soon.)
Alan
(Now I can wait until IE opening whenever a new txt comes in finally drives me mad enough to crack the case and try to fix the ribbon cable!)
Hi,
Only had my HD2 for a couple of days having come from iphone and have a couple of gripes with it. Maybe it's just me though as never had a windows phone before.
When using opera internet browser you have to zoom in quite a bit to press links, which I find a little annoying. I've tried skyfire which is much better, but you can't use pinch/zoom. Is there a browser that has the best of both worlds?
Is there a quick way to turn bluetooth on/off without having to go into settings?
Is there a quick link to profiles? I know if you hold the end call button you can select between vibrate or ringer, but not silent. I must admit, this is one thing I liked about the iphone, there was a simple switch to change from silent/ringer without having to turn the phone on and press buttons.
When making/receiving calls sometimes the screen comes back on and my ear presses other functions, or disconnects the call. Has there not been a fix for this issue yet?
The call quality isn't great, sometimes the caller distorts on certain words/letters
And finally, is there any way to change the vibrate? Can it be set to 'pulse' rather than just a continous vibration. Can it be set just to give one or 2 pulses when receiving a sms/mms message, rather than vibrating for the full length of the message alert? (I've personalised mine and goes on for about 10 seconds)
I think the phone is great, and these niggles aren't the most major of things (accept the screen turning back on during calls) but it would make the phone more of a pleasure to use.
Cheers
There are fixes or programs for most of your niggles, but they may not integrate with the HTC Sense interface! That's one downside of such a deeply coded front end, and one reason why I personally have stopped using it!
There is a file available which can allow links in Opera to be clicked when zoomed out- sorry, but I don't have time to link to it at present!
For profile and radio (BT/WiFi/Phone) switching, I'd recommend SBSH Phoneweaver . OK, it costs $15 but you can set any number of profiles with switching based on time, location, busy status etc, or manually. The pop-up menu also has a set of switches for the various radios. It can be launched via one of the 3 Program buttons on the front page of Sense, or via a small icon in the Taskbar. I'm, not sure if it can have the vibrate times defined or not!

Thanks for your response. What are you referring to when you say radios? Please forgive my ignorance, I'm still learning
You say that you have stopped using the HTC sense interface so what do you use instead?
Just having a look at the phoneweaver, can this be used with the sense interface? Does it overide the phone settings?
Radios = WiFi, Bluetooth and Phone Radio. These are the things you see in the Comm Manager with the little green On/Off sliders
I'm now using a 'Light' custom ROm without the HTC Sense stuff. I prefer to use a plain 'Home Screen' (which you can achieve by going into Settings/Home (or Today) and selecting the Items tab. From there you can turn on or off any of the Today items or Sense itself.
A lot of the programs I use have their own Today screen plug-ins which suits me fine- Resco Contact Manager, Elecont Weather and Chronos clock/alarms, plus I use a Launcher program called Launchpad by Panoramic Software that is opened by tapping the top left of the screen; this has 40 definable 'Favourites' links plus a full set of Programs/Settings links.

Thanks for that thread, the trouble is I'm not a real computer/phone buff (yet) and so a lot of it goes right over my head. I don't even know what registry's are, and wy you need to edit them???
Ok, the concept of registry is quite simple. I'll put in a way so anyone can understand. Its a repository of stored key/value pairs.
Imagine a folder like structure, when you open a folder you will find a series of keys which, when opened, reveal the value.
Every key/folder is used by the OS or by some application. Its where all the back door settings are stored. So if you wanna make an app or the OS behave in a way you need to change the settings.
Using the registry is easy, but you have to make the first step... so what are you waiting?

Can I bugger up the phone if I don't know what I'm doing?
You can always make a backup of the registry you are changing. In resco registry editor tap and hold and press export. If the changes you made are not good, go to the folder where you exported the backup and open it. It will automatically imported and problem solved. But if you follow the instructions you won't have any problems, just don't change the registry for something you don't know or never seen in any tip/suggestion.
You could affect stuff if you dont do it right... but if you follow the instructions carefully without any typing errors, you will be fine...
Use this to Turn off BT easily.... it also does a lot of other stuff... basically, your bottom left softkey will become an "action" button... prssing that will bring up the screen shown in the screenshots. Works really well for me... also give you soft reset options without opening the back cover or powering off

Hi all
I am kind of new to this, so I hope I have put the thread in the right place. I have searched for some of the answers, but can not find them, or the threads are 100s of pages long and knowing where to look is a nightmare.
I decided to update my phone with the latest official HTC Roms from their website (2.53.405.5 (76952) WWE). Unfortunately there are a few things that I like the old way, and now I am not sure if I can go back to the original Rom that came with the phone.
- I now can not use custom sounds for my message alerts, I have put them with all the others, and made them to be the same file size, mono and all that, and they don't show up. I can use them for ring tones, but not message alerts.
- I used to have the message alert light set to constantly flash until I had read the message, so if I am away from the phone I could tell I have a message. That bit is still there, but it is grayed out so I can't have it.
- When I lock, unlock the phone, go through the menus and go back to the "Today" screen the clock will go from say 10:13, to 09:13, then will roll forward to 10:11 and then the last two minute digits will roll over to 10:12, 10:13 again? Why is this.
- Is there any way of removing the weather from the "Today" screen, it looks very nice, but the phone seems to come to a grinding halt and that added with the time thing mentioned above is also very irritating.
If anyone knows ways around these it would be much appreciated, if not is there a way of returning to the original Rom that the phone came with, I notice the HTC website said it was not possible.
Thanks in advance.

Drop the sounds you want for messages directly into thw windows folder. they will be available.
Thank you codhunter, it worked .
Not sure why they would change it between roms / versions, it used to go in the tones or whatever it was called with my original one.
Also your changing the value in available options to 15 for the message LED notification worked, couldn't work spigots out above.
Thanks
Glad to be of help

You don't need any plugins. Registry editor is part of total commander. If you press "\" button in uppert right corner (in total commander), you'll get to root part and the first folder is called "\\Plugins", there you can find FTP, LAN and registry editor plugins.
Has anyone else noticed how much smaller the sms text message is? You have the ability to change the text size for the ones you read, and the one in with the screen alignment, but the text still seems really small.
Is there a way of doing this in the registry as well?
