I know that there was a "pre-release" of this image (or similar image) that has been out, but this is the first time I have seen it available for download direct from HTC / Cingular
Unlocked Phone
If I have an unlocked phone, do I have to do anything before applying this update so it stays unlocked?
I downloaded mine directly from HTC a week or so ago (when I purchased the phone) and I know it was available through HTC a couple of weeks before that.
Is this a different version than the official version that was available at the end of April?

The ROM update will not lock your phone.
No Internet
I did the rom upgrade and it went fine, except now I cannot access the internet. I also cannot access pop email but I do have direct push email working with my exchange server. So the data connection must be working but still cannot browse the internet. I tried connecting via wifi and I can browse with that, so it has to be some connection setting issue. I have checked everything and I can't find a problem. Never had this issue until the upgrade to this ROM. Any suggestions? Thanks Jeff

A poster at howard forums is saying he bought a Blackjack on Ebay and has a newer firmware version than the leaked version. he hasn't posted a screen but apparently got different wm6 numbers than the beta. if anyone here would know how to make a rom dump or something similar for distribution, heres the link.

apparently he'll be uploading the rom today but it needs an installer. still faster than AT&T...
Here is the link to the Official WM6 Rom from AT&T/HTC for the AT&T/Cingular 8525, and according to their site it is more than a week earlier than their planned release date. Guess they are trying to make the public think their ahead of schedule.
"This ROM is available from November 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008. After this date, the ROM will be removed from the website and will no longer be available for distribution."

I was hoping that my Sprite backup from the un-official WM6 ROM posted here in September could be cleanly loaded on the new ROM - but unfortunately not Until I have a block of time to re-install all my software I have reverted back to the original XDA Developers version.
If anyone loads this new ROM, please post if it's any better than the original. The only issue I have with the original is a memory leak, but I think this is normal for Windows Mobile.....
Is there anything different about it?
am having second thoughts as well. but looks like my SATIN rom has been acting up lately. maybe its time for a ROM change.

well, ive got an email from them for this new rom. 1.40.707.2. i havent upgraded mine, so maybe those that have done so, will care to share their experience.

It's not available on the other HTC sites, it's an Asia upgrade and the Radio only..
I think that email was sent in error; that ROM update was from May and my phone already had it installed when I bought it last month.
i received the email too and it's taking 1 hour(??) to download.. wonder if it's worth upgrading since my rom version is v1.40.707.1. any feedback?

Everybody seem to be getting the update except for me :-(
I m using a debranded Orange(UK 2.73.61.66) Hero in India. And I rooted it and was running V ROM 10.3.2 peacefully. But I went back to my stock ROM(did RUU update) to get the official update. which is not happening at this moment.
So, first question, Am I supposed to get the update now..?? (Because HTC.com/uk site tells that its being released)
Second, whats that date trick again..? which everybody seems to be talking
And Sorry for creating a new thread, Didn have patience to search through all other threads

You should have 405 prior to getting 2.1. Rather, you have 61...
You don't even need to restart - as soon as the phone figures out that its internal date is over two weeks after it last checked, it will check for update again. Mine did within 30 seconds after changing the date.
Only reason why this might not work is if you advanced the date before - in that case, you need to advance it even further.

Thanks for the reply guys. But was just wondering whether there is combination of brand and place to get the update. Like if u have Orange branded and u need to be in UK or something like that. (Coz I m in India, Strangely Indian versions have already received the updates)
FYI I have advanced the date to August..!! Still no luck :-(
If I read the numerous thread correctly, Orange UK users with carrier-crippled handsets don't see the OTA update at all yet. Someone correct me please if I'm wrong, though.
There is already a thread ** Official 2.1 UK UPDATE Thread ** .
Keep posts in the same area regards to this update then everyone can find it.

Yeah. Its true that they have not released the update for Orange Hero's. But I have seen threads where people did mention of receiving updates for Orange Hero.
So was just wondering
